Recovery of photos after reformatting

Hi, I had to reformat and reinstall Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 after a hard drive problem. Unfortunately I have not backed up my photos and videos as I was using the mac rarely so I thought nothing can go wrong. Now I know better! I would like to know if there is any reliable software available to recover them.
Thank you.

If you saved the photos on Skydrive, they should be there. Otherwise, your photos cannot be retrieved.

  • No photos after reformatting HD

I recently had to reformat my hard drive, and had backed up all my files onto an external drive. I'm having difficulty restoring iPhoto (v2). I replaced the new empty iPhoto library file with my old file, and all the albums loaded, but no pictures. I tried importing from the file, and no luck. Any suggestions?

The iPhoto Library Folder in your Pictures Folder is the database where iPhoto keeps everything. If you backed up the ENTIRE iPhoto Library Folder untouched then it should work.
If you just backed up parts or folders it will not work.
Presuming you are working with the entire folder you should try rebuilding your library. There is a key combo to hold down while launching iPhoto that is version specific.

  • Finding photos after restoring windows 8 to Factory Settingd

where to find photos placed in hidden folder in  C  after restoring windows to factory settings

    HI @Xarar,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
It is my understanding the you did a recovery back to factory.  If you did a full factory recovery, it would have reformatted the drive, recreated the partitions and reinstalled the software back to factory.  That means all data on the hard drive would be gone.
You can do a Google search for data recovery.  You may be able to locate data recovery software that would allow you to retrieve your photos.
    Good Luck!

  • Disk utility recovery of files after deleting from external hard drive?

I had downloaded some files to add to an external hard drive, the hard drive was assigned to a pc before adding these files so it wouldn't let me add files from my MacBook..
Had a look around online and made some changes (well thats what I thought) and I was able to transfer files form my MacBook onto the external hard drive.
What I then figured out was that there was nothing left on the hard drive except for the two file sI just transferred..
It turns out I deleted everyting without noticing.
The stpes I followed was to go to disk utility then select the hard drive and click erase (not knowing this would erase evrything).
So now I have two files on my hard drive and no idea how to recover the 'delted' files.
I tried using Disk Drill, which found the files but then it said I need to buy the full version to recover them.
I am wondering if there is any free methods to recover these files at all, any help is appreciated.

The files are still on the drive, and will remain unless and until you overwrite them with new data. So don't write anything more to the drive in addition to the two files you added after reformatting it, and do download the free trial version(s) of one or more data recovery utilities:
    Data Rescue 3: http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
    FileSalvage 7: http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id= 1
Each is offered in a free demo version that will show you exactly what the full version could recover before you have to pay for anything. There are others on the market, but these are the ones I'm familiar with.
To recover data using any such utility, you must have another drive available on which to save the recovered files. Saving them on the same drive they're being recovered from would just overwrite other files that haven't yet been recovered.

  • How to recover photos after restore without backup?

    Hello
Basically, a couple weeks ago my iPod 4th gen died.
I went out to buy a new charger. This charger worked for a while, but then stopped.
Every time I plugged it in, it would show me the screen that indicates
that I have to connect my iPod to iTunes.
So, I bought a new charger and used it to connect to iTunes,
only to find out that my iPod was in Recovery Mode!
The only option was to restore it. I tried to back it up, however the options
were all greyed out. A pop-up indicated that I could get my contacts and what not
back after the restore, so I did it.
After the restore, my iPod went back to the factory settings.
I was happy, thinking that there was a backup of all my photos saved to my computer.
Yet when I check iTunes, I could not restore the backup!
I am honestly so devastated. I could care less about the contacts and apps, but I had
pictures of my younger cousins and family collected for over 4 years.
I'd really love to get these back. I tried using those recovery programs, but nothing
worked for me! I also tried to get a back up from an older computer I used, but it said that I'd
never done a back up on that computer.
This whole situation has upset me, I'm not sure of what to do now.
I just really want those photos back.
Thank you for reading, sorry that this is so long.

No, updating iTunes does not delete any iOS device backups.

  • Saving Photos after Restore

I recently had a huge problem with my iPod Touch 4G, where it completely froze and went into recovery mode. After connecting it to iTunes, I had to restore it yesterday. I know that I should have backed it up as much as possible, but my laptop was extremely slow and took over three hours just to transfer purchased items. The last backup I did was in January, so all of my media and photos since then have been taken off. Is there any way possible I could recover my photos? My notes were deleted, but somehow they showed back up today. I didn't know if somehow I could recover the photos/videos like the notes. I know there's probably nothing I can do now, but they were from my whole sophomore year in high school and I really wish I could have saved them. I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks in advance.

I know of no way to get your photos that you took or save on your iPod since the January backup.

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe

  • In iphoto, how do i save a photo after editing, in the same or higher file size, it's saves in a lower size

in iphoto, how do i save a photo after editing, in the same or higher file size, it's saves in a lower size

It's rather more complicated that this.
iPhoto is a lossless editor. You don't lose any quality on your shot in iPhoto.
The file size you see reported is the size of your iPhoto Preview: this is what gets used if you access the data via a media browser. It's a "good-enough-for-most-uses" version of the shot. Email it, upload to websites, use it in Presentation, Word processing file etc
If you want to set the quality yourself then Export the photo using the File -> Export command.
You can choose to export to Jpeg, Tiff or png. Tiff is lossless but the file sizes are up to 10 times larger. Jpeg allows you to choose different qualities: High, Medium or low. The difference is the amount of compression involved. High quality means very little compression. It's not unusual for photos exported at this setting to have a larger file size than the original.
Which setting you choose depends on the use you intend. Further editing, printing then high is important. Sending to Facebook? Well low will do just fine there as they're going to trash the file anyway.
But the key point: the file size only becomes an issue when you export.

  • How to recover photos after restoring iPod touch?

Yesterday, there was an update for the iOS 6, I believe. When I pressed the update button, a message popped up saying that there was a problem with my iPod touch 4G and that I need to restore it. I had absolutely no idea why that message would pop up in the first place because my iPod was working just fine. But I couldn't update my iPod to the newest version if I didn't do what iTunes says... so I was about to restore my iPod, but then I was worried that all of my photos would disappear. So I decided to update my iOS later so that I could transfer all my files on to my computer. I then unplugged my iPod, and tried to turn it on but the home screen wouldn't pop - no matter what I did, all the screen showed was an itunes icon on top with a USB plug-in cord at the bottom. So I had no choice but to restore my iPod. The thing is, once I restored my iPod and all, my photos were all gone and I did not use iCloud as a back-up since a few months ago. All of my recent photos are now gone and I have no idea how to recover them. I've tried programs that aim to recover deleted photos, but they didn't work.
Is there a way to recover photos after restoring the iPod Touch?

    Hello,
It is very important to backup your device to the computer before updating or restoring.
You can restore your device to a previous backup, all the photos that were there when you made the backup should return with it, but I'm afraid that any photos taken or saved after the last backup are unrecoverable.
    I hope this helps.

  • After reformatting hard drive, iPod syncs very slowly with iTunes

A couple of months ago I had to reformat my computer's hard drive. I keep all my music files on an external hard drive. After reformatting, the man who did this for me reloaded iTunes for me and imported all my music back into my iTunes library.
It seems that since that time, when I sync my iPod to the iTunes library, it takes many times longer than it used to. Maybe something else happened to my iPod or iTunes and the reformat is just a conincidence, but it really does seem to take three or four times longer to sync.
I have iTunes 7.4.1.2 and my iPod is an older one, a 40G with dock connector
Also, I recently bought some audiobooks to put on my iPod. I only had about 600megs available so the iPod would not sync. I then removed several Gigs from my iTunes library. When I click on the "music" icon under "library" it shows that I have only a little over 29G used which should leave well over 5 plus Gigs available for the new music. But when I try to sync the iPod, it gives me the message that I have only approx. 600 megs available. What's up. I never have had this problem before and I have had the iPod for several years.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

I actually learned yesterday that Apple didn't put USB 2.0 in their Macs until G5... something I was VERY irritated to find out. Turns out they were betting that Fire Wire would take off instead of USB 2.0, so they only equipped their machines with USB 1.1. So as a result, my iPod is unacceptably slow. Other nagging problems like this are convincing me that I'll have to get a new Mac Pro in the coming year, but for the meantime I think I'll be buying a USB 2.0 PCI card.
    Thanks for your response.

  • After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine:Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on? the WD disk has mounted??

After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine: "Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on?"  I've reformatted in Disk Utilities...not sure what I did wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

  • How can I go back to the optimized version of the photo after I have viewed it on my iPad?

    Hello,
The reason why I chose the iCloud services (I'm on a 200GB plan), is that I wanted to be able to have on-demand access to my photo library and view my pictures, without having to store them on the device itself.
Now It seems like every time I access a picture that is stored on the cloud from my iPad, the original full resolution version of it is downloaded on my device and it stays there. This can cause my iPad's storage to be full by only viewing a few of the albums that I have stored on the iCloud!
There must be a way to go back to the optimized version of the photo after you've viewed them on your device. Can anyone please help me with that?
    Thanks very much!
