Recovery with disk

I bought my HP desk top last year, It stopped working a few weeks ago.  I called HP and ordered a recovery package. I got 4 disks, 3 for recovery.  I put first one in and booted, and then all three disk in one by one as requested.  (Everything seems fine. I did all the hard ware tests all passed OK.)
After a few time restart the windows 7 automatically, the window 7 started the final one time set up,with blue screen tell me it will take a long time and don't disturb.  that set up keep running for a long time but never stop, just keep going.  I waited till two this morning it is the same and the blue screen with 3 green squares moves again and again.  So I went to sleep.  after I got up this morning it was the same.  I tried again, booted with the recovery disk and checked all the test once more, every thing passed fine as before.
I rerun the recovery disk and same ting happens again, the finalizing set up won't stop.  what can I do?  Since I bought it over a year already, I need some help.  any help will be highly appreciated.

Hello 1203ccc, You might try to run the HP Restore Recovery from the hard drive D: Factory partition, and see if the system will restore.
To do this, when the system boots and the HP Logo screen appears, start tapping the F-11 key and the HP Recovery Restore Utility may start. If it does, select the destructive method and the hard drive will be formated and wiped clean and the Recovery process should proceed.
It is always possible you could have a faulty hard drive that is preventing the system recovery.

  • Question on OAS Disaster Recovery with Disk Replication

    Dear all,
We are reviewing OAS - DR approach with Disk Replication. From the docs I read that that we need to use external storage for this purpose.
Besides that, do we need other 3rd party software/hardware to implement DR with Disk Replication ?
    Thank you very much,

  • How to completely erase ( no recovery partition remaining) a lion partition with disk utilities on lion install disk?

Where in a  lion install disc made from the installer can I find a bootable file with disk utilities?
I downloaded lion a few hours ago and installed.
I have 4 large hardrives (1.5TB) arranged in 8 partitions to allow me to work on a varied group of projects. I have some projects that need to be worked on with software running under Tiger, some with software that runs under leopard, some with snow leopard, and now Lion. I own multiple copies of software and multiple user pack system install discs.
On a regular basis, I back up chunks of work on projects to external discs, and special backup areas on one of my drives. I don't like using time machine because I am running many operating environments on my mac pro and I don't ever want to be tied to one operating environment for important functionality, and I want to maximize the open space on my hard drives.
Several partitions involve large video files. I am working on them in various versions of final cut, premiere and imovie. Because I have to use the same software versions my different clients are running, I don't want to move all the files " up" to a modern version. It would be professional suicide to stop accommodating my various clients. I say this to try to head off being told to make my clients upgrade. There are too many different clients and they are not going to replace all their equipment.
On these volumes with video files, I often fill them up and copy off what I need to backup before I erase and do a clean install.  I also run VM Fusion and windows XP. I absolutely do not want to have a Recovery HD partition left on the drive when I erase or influencing the other partions using different OS versions on that same drive.
Is there a bootable disc on the installer disk I just made? Can I use the disk utilities to do a low level erase on the lion volume that will remove the recovery partition?
Can I go back to booting from Snow Leopard and erasing the Recovery partition with the drive partition that way? Will the Snow Leopard utility take out the Lion HD recovery partition?
I am used to erasing my drives and rebuilding my machine and I believe it is the right way to use my multiple drives in my workflow. Now that I've got this invisible recovery partition, can you help me remove it and create a bootable disc that includes disk utilities?

I assume the unix pdisk command will show you want is going on.
You may not have a big worry.  There have always been a lot of hidden partitions. Disk Utility under 10.4.11 reports this drive has three (my now report four )  partitions, when pdisk reports that there are 15.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
Press return when done typing sudo pdisk -l
    -l include a lower case L
The sudo command will ask for your administration password. No characters will appear when typing your password. Press return when done typing. sudo stands for super user do.  It's just like root. Be careful.

    Hi:
I can't help you with that specific issue, but if you can't get it resolved and you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows product key on the bottom of your PC, make your own W7 installation media to reinstall W7.
    Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Cant restore my macbook with Disk utility and my .dmg image

My macbook would not boot anymore. Stuck on gray screen with apple logo, spinning wheel and a loading bar for a while after shutting off.
I was able to get to Disk Utility in the recovery mode and, after a while, was able to make an image of my filesin an attempt to back them up.
The .dmg was put on an external and i checked it on my imac, i could open the .dmg file and browse all my files from my macbook, so those are safe!
After that i tried to wipe the SSD of my macbook and put the image back but that didn't work, also some resource is busy errors.
After trying this a few times without succes i figured i'd try to do a clean install. This worked.
My macbook air is working again but if Iuse Disk Utility in the recovery now and try and restore my image (.dmg file) it gives me Restore Failure; An error (-16) occured (resource busy) as well. I also tried to copy the dmg onto my macbook and run disc utility when booted into OSX. I open up the back up .dmg with Disk utility, then i go to my macbooks partition (Macontiosh HD) and use that as a destination and drag the mounted image as the source as shown on the image below. Am I doing something wrong here?
Doing this i get an error as well: (-119,930,878) Resource busy as you can see.
What can i do to get my image back on my macbook? Any 3rd party software?
I considered just transferring the files after opening the .dmg file but this works only for documents and not for programs and settings of the default apps.
I've looked all over the Internet and it seems more people have had this error but then with making the image, they also suggest unmounting the destination disk before trying to restore but my destination is Macintosh HD, i cant really unmount that can i?
    Thanks in advance!

To make a clone, in the future you need to use a program like superduper or carbon copy cloner.
Either program makes an identical clone while preserving certain system files and marking/indicating to OS X that the clone is bootable.
Using Disk Utility to make a DMG was a good idea, but this will not yield a bootable image.
If Disk Utility could do a 1:1 copy of everything, then people would be using it to rip/duplicate DVDs.
But Disk Utility does not (it leaves out certain invisible/system files), hence it cannot duplicate/clone a hard drive or DVD.

  • Error message after Recovery with discs

I have a Pavilion dv6911om. I had to replace the hard drive and then did a system recovery with the discs sent by HP but it failed to recover the computer. It gives me a CTOERROR.flg notepad with a bunch of information on it and from what I can tell it will not finish because my computer is offline but I have the wireless slider in the on position. HELP  - what is my next step?

Try restarting the laptop and tapping away at the F11 key to see if the Recovery partition on the hdd was created and maybe capable of completing the install.
If no joy, scroll down on the page and get Partition Wizard Bootable CD ISO and ImgBurn to burn the iso image to cd and boot from it. Delete all partitions, create one and format. Next try booting from Recovery Disks again.

  • HP recovery/partition/disks

HP pavilion desktop 6540f. Purchased refurbished machine from reliable retail chain in the city. Spent 6 months or so crashing/recovering, cyclically and serially until absolutely dead. Had purchased additional warranty so took it twice plus used 2 local consultants, several trips, large investment of personal time travelling to city and lots of $ involved, none of which recognized of course in warranty - our own problem in buying from a remote area I guess but still not great situation. Over nearly 2 months, shop evaluated, replaced motherboard, hard drive, wireless card at their cost for parts and time and ran extended tests. They only re-installed Windows 7 (64 bit), no HP, and reformatted losing the HP partition.
    Issues:
    - Is it worthwhile to reestablish the original partitions?
    - If so, how best to do so, considering that the recovery made were done while machine was dying?
    - Should I even keep these disks?
    Advice please. Thanks donp

The recovery DVDs will recover the system to factory fresh Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  It will also install all updates/drivers/titles that shipped with the PC originally.  You can see them below.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02155464&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
If you have the disks you made yourself, it should recover fine, and relatively quickly.  If you have "Support Sent Recovery Disks" it will recover as well, albeit it will take a bit longer.
If you don't have any of the recovery disks - I'd say stay the course with what you've got.
If you're skittish - and have a spare hard drive - I'd suggest putting that in (at least temporarily) to test out the recovery from disks before you wipe out what you have.   There is a slight chance that if the folks servicing the computer didn't take all the right steps when replacing the motherboard,  they may have messed up the ability for the restore discs to work properly.
    Good luck..

  • Compaq Presario SR1330NX desktop. Black screen after restarting after recovery using disks

My Compaq presario SR1330NX desktop computer which has XP. Years ago I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. I ordered the recovery disks. I have done successful recoveries with them. Although it has been years. I did a recovery from disk. I dont think I did it correctly as it had been a while. Anyway, It never asked me for the 2nd disk, but it said the recovery was successful and to restart the computer. I thought that maybe it had made its own new recovery partition when using the disks before. So I restarted the computer and all I get is a black screen with compaq on it and some weird symbols in the left upper corner that look like
    >triangle,Divide sign,Square,upside down t with a line under it,zero and a weird looking capital B".
And it does NOTHING. I put disks in it does nothing. This is the only screen that comes up and nothing else works. What did I do? and How can I fix this?

Hello tinkyferret, The HP Recovery Restore disk set makes a new Recovery Partition when they are used to recover the system.
You might try the HP Recovery Restore procedure from the hard drive, if you have not, and see if it wil complete successfully.
Normally on a Compaq system, you press the F-10 key to enter the Recovery Restore utility.

  • Seagate External HDD is lost due to repairing with Disk Utility, Why?

    Hi to all,
I have been struggling with my external harddisks for a few days now. And there is something that I really wish to find out why. I will really appreciate any ideas or help, thanks in advance.
I have two Seagate Freeagent external harddisks. With both, I have had problem while trashing the items that I deleted. They didn't go away. So I first verify the disks with disk utility and then repair them. One of them was safe and sound after repairing. The trash was empty. But the other one was totally gone! Empty! Like formatted! Right now I am using Seagate File Recovery software to get my data back. (And by the way, mostly works like a charm. But I have nearly 2 days to wait for the scan.)
    - Is repair disk not supposed to JUST repair disk and not format the whole drive? Or am I lacking information?
    - What is the problem here?
A small note: Both harddisks are working on Mac and Windows environment. They are not formatted and used as Mac Journaled or so.
I hope that I can get reply to this topic. Thank you very much.

Hello! The drive's directory structure (the raod map to every bit of info on the drive) is severely damaged. If the disk utility won't repair the damage then your next best shot is to purchase DISKWARRIOR or possible TechToolPro. Diskwarrior is the best utility for directory repair. There are cases where Diskwarrior can't repair the drive. A file recovery only app is DATARESCUE II. This is the time where you need multiple backups. I would encourage you to maintain more than one backup to increase your chances of successful recovery of your data. Personally I always try to maintain 3-5 backups. Tom

    I installed:
    "iTunes" (6.0.2)
    "iPod Updater 2005-11-17" ((null))
    "iChat Update" (2.1)
    Went to repair disk permissions
    I get this error:
Disk Utitlity has "Lost Connection" with Disk Management tool" Please quit Disk Utility.
then it says quitting Disk Utility may render the disk useless. Stopping the scan just gives a "stopped by User" red text message in the DU screen.
Had to Quit. No other way out.
Now it will not repair "or" verify Disk permissions at all.

  • Can Time Capsule hard drive be accessed with Disk Utility? I'm having issues...

How does one mount , inspect , verify , and possibly repair a Time Capsule hard drive  with Disk Utility ?
My 500Gb 1st gen Time Capsule  ( used wireless with Airport)  has quit backing up new data . ( iMac Core2Duo, Snow Leopard) .  TC  says it needs 238 Gb of available space, but only has 35 Gb available. So it quit doing new  incremental backup altogether. It's almost like it wants to start over.
Airport connection seems good.  Time Capsule seems healthy enough ( for being 3.5 years old) .  I really dont want to lose the data on the existing backup.
What is the nature of this glitch ?

I'm sorry , LaP , but " Time Capsule become too full " is not the cause of my problem .
In fact, I just got done pruning the iMac system hard drive a little  to free up some  10 Gb of new space , yet created only maybe 1-2 Gb of new data to archive. The TC had been doing regular daily backups without issue and Time Machine  was showing me stuff from about ten days back.
The TC informed me it needed 235 Gb of space but only had 34 Gb available. That 235 Gb needed is totally in error.  My problem more resembles corrupt hard disk directories . Maybe Permissions ?  which is why I asked about using Disk Utility.
Yes, I do need a newer larger TC, but pigs don't fly and money does not grow on trees to make tha happen. The backup I have now is fine and should work if I need to restore anything in the forseeable. New data will not be archived, alas.

  • Creating a mp3 disk image with disk utility

    Hi,
I'd like to create a mp3 disk image with disk utility. In the end I would like to have a mp3 disk that plays in various stero system and macs.
But I want to add some additional files: a png file for a nice folder background of the dmg, a special image for the dmg, and some text files relating to the mp3s.
Is this possible at all? Is there something I have to observe creating the dmg?
    Thanx for your help

Is this possible at all? Is there something I have to observe creating the dmg?
You need to know which file systems your "various stereo systems" understand. The default file system created on a diskimage when burning is a hybrid file system- HFS+, ISO-9660 with Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge.
