Refresh rate for Numeric Indicator

I have application that displays 60 16 bit word of data in Hex format on the screen simulatanousely as I receive block of data at at approximately 10,000 times a second through USB. Obviously, at this 10,000Hz rate, it is an over-kill in terms of the human eye visually processing at that rate. Does anyone know what is the screen update rate for numberic indators and is there a way of controlling it. I was trying to see if I could set it for 10Hz.
Thanks.
Paul

Let me clarify my question:
I have a project which could send data to the screen at a rapid rate (think oscope).  I do not want this to slow down the program more than necessary.  The data will be grabbed in a loop and displayed to the screen (and possibly enqueued for extra processing).
It is my understanding that if I simply wire it to an indicator (yes I suppose this was a typo) or local variable it will be handled nicely, i.e. sent to an update buffer to handle screen updates at an appropriate rate.
However I would like to encapsulate my GUI (either using an action engine with USRs or a class) and so was planning on having references to all my controls and indicators within this encapsulation.
So again, my question is this: Is there a way to write to an indicator (or control) via the reference while still having the advantages (speed/display buffer) of a local variable?
Secondary question:
Where is the best place to find information on all the various efficiencies LabVIEW has built in.  For example, in my last project I was actually writing my data to a separate queue which was dequeued in a loop with a built in delay and only the most recent item was written to the screen and the rest deleted.  In other words, I had no idea LabVIEW already handled this in the background and I would like to know what else LabVIEW already takes care of for me.
Thanks.

  • The refresh rate for Mac mini 2014 at 3840x2160 using Thunderbolt

    Here: http://www.apple.com/mac-mini/specs/
, it says that the refresh rate for resolution 3840x2160 for HDMI is 30 Hz.
I'm wondering if it's the same using Thunderbolt, or more correctly DisplayPort.

If I could ask another question regarding this... is 30 Hz poor even for desktop work? Or movies.
I believe the 30Hz is progressive and therefore for movies/video would normally look quite good. However for sports e.g. soccer which has a fast moving object i.e. the ball it would be less good. I have also seen comments suggesting that for computer use it is also less desirable particularly when you are scrolling as this entails affectively the entire screen image 'moving fast'.
This is not based on personal use as I cannot afford a 4K screen yet myself. However for DVDs 24p is considered a to give a good image for movies and this I can confirm from personal experience so 30p should be even better. Obviously 60p is better still but for that you need either a Mac Pro, iMac or MacBook Pro Retina.
It is probably going to depend on what you will be using it for. Perhaps you should consider spending a little more for a MacBook Pro Retina which can do 60 Hz.

How can I found out what are verical and horizontal refresh rates for my display?

    Hi
Do you mean the vertical and horizontal display resolution???
Anyway all informations should be listed in the user manual.
I dont know exactly what appendix is it but it must be placed somewhere at the end of the user manual.
Such infos are listed also in my user manual which was delivered and preinstalled on my Satellite notebook.

  • IPad Air display refresh rate for full screen movies?

What exactly happens if I play a movie on the iPad full screen with a rate of e.g. 24p, 25p or 50i?
The stated maximal refresh rate is 60Hz.
Will this rate be reduced when playing movies?
Or will frames be dropped / interpolated if the frame rate and the refresh rate don't match?
Or will the movie be sped up / slowed down?
When using the HDMI adapter, I can see that it always outputs 60p, regardless of the movie frame rate. But maybe this is different on the internal panel.
    Thanks for any insight!

Should it happen again double tap the screen with three fingers. Then go to settings> general> accessibility> zoom> off.

  • Suggested Resolution & Refresh Rate for 19-inch Monitor

Just had to replace my old 17-inch Apple Graphite Display. I stayed with a CRT and found a new 19-inch Dell M993s for pretty cheap.
Now I'm trying to decide what the best screen resolution and refresh rate is...
The HTML files that came on the Dell CD-ROM give recommended optimal settings for Windows OS's. But I'm not sure I should go by those for Tiger.
    Any suggestions?

Just to make it completely clear
You need to have the screen refresh rate set above 75hz so that screen refresh is less visible, the lower the number the slower the refresh rate and therefore the more visible it is and the more strain on the eye. The higher the refresh rate the better.
Find the resolution which gives you 85hz or higher and which also makes best use of screen without making everything really small and hard to see or to read.
    I have a 19" Lacie and have it set to 1280 x 1024 85hz refresh rate.

  • Data Entry Tab for Numeric Indicator does not Exist

    Hi
I'm trying to set the data range for numeric indicators on LabVIEW 10.0.1. For some reason when I go to properties of my numeric indicator, there is no Data Entry Tab as explained on the NI website: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361H-01/lvhowto/changing_data_ranges_of_nu/. Also, in the data type tab, there is a section for range but everything is grayed out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

    Hi
    Thanks for the replies
I just realized that data entry on a numeric indicator doesn't really make sense. But my question is, how do I go about setting data range for a numeric indicator? Based on this tutorial : http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/320998a.pdf (Page 128/250) in the older versions there seems to be a data range tab or option when you write click the indicator. In my case, the range is greyed out and I tried to play with it with no avail.

  • Refresh rate for client tracking i WCS/MSE

    Hi
I have a customer that have trouble with the update of the position of a client. Even if the clients walks across the whole building, the client will stay at the same place for several minutes. Is there any way to tune the refresh rate? When I push the load button in the map, the clients position will refresh, or it did when I was on the site, now they just test with an application.
    The setup:
    WiSM 7.0.220
    WCS 7.0.220
    MSE 7.0.220
They use the API for MSE to get the location information to the external application, and that will show the information on a cisco 7925 IP phone.
Do someone know a way to increasing the refresh rate?
    - Patrick

From: Cisco Mobility Services Engine - Context Aware Mobility Solution Deployment Guide
Jitter: Before the 5.2 release, MSE used to have Location Smoothening mechanism to track clients. Moving average was taken for clients, or, in other words, client movement was averaged. Starting with 5.2 software release, this whole
mechanism has been replaced with “Location Filters.” Location Filtering is applied internally on a per client basis. MSE
keeps track of which client moves and which is stationary, and it applies filtering accordingly. This reduces the overall jitter of the system. Location filtering is enabled by default.
Perhaps you want to turn  location Filtering OFF for your application.

  • Refresh rate for a new LED TV...

    Hey guys,
It's been a few years, and it's time to upgrade my TV.
A few questions on the refresh rate.  Aside from watching movies, I like to play games (on PS4, when I can buy it), and watching primarily sports.
So, in essence, I'm assuming I'd be one who would notice a higher refresh rate?  Is there a noticeable difference from 60hz, to 120hz, to 240hz?
    Thanks!

    Some thoughts...
how much is calibration?  how much is that TV?
some say TV's should be calibrated again after 6 months of usage where the TV has had some break-in.  How much is that second calibration???
some say they just run on theatre or cinema mode to save costs
some say they don't like the calibration and flip back to the normal, bright or vivid mode.  Personally I hate to see the highlights punched out and looseing detail for the brightness
some purchase Spyder or XRite calibration tools
some will use Apps to do their own calibration (note you need a cable or a wireless box), however you don't want someone who is colorblind making those calibration decisions (like me)

  • How to set screen refresh rate for linux console (runlevel 3)?

    Hi,
I have a CRT monitor, so the refresh rate is always needed to configure. I use 720x400 resolution in console, but the refresh rate is 70hz. Are there any ways to get it higher in console (with KMS or without)?

    thank you for replies
But setting the resolution, e.g. vga=773, would not change the refresh rate, or would it?
It would, but usually not to the maximum provided by the monitor. May be it is real to find the place, where it looks for available resolutions linked with refresh rates...
According to the Gentoo page I can use uvesafb for setting refresh rate as well as other settings. And then I found uvesafb page in ArchWiki. But the way to set proper refresh rate is not so easy as I expected, because I need to install uvesafb and it needs additional daemon. And also I think KMS can't work here. However it's better than nothing, if I don't find any other way, I will try this one.

  • Refresh rate for logicaldisk - free megabytes (performancecounter)

The time interval for the PerformanceCounter("LogicalDisk", "Free Megabytes") counter appears to be 300 seconds.
Calling .NextValue() repeatedly within this five minute interval will yield the same result as you are seeing.
Is this a bugs or behavior ?
If is a behavior, what is the reason behind for logicalDisk - Free Megabytes has 5 minutes interval update however the other counters are 1 seconds interval ?

    Hello MaleCoder,
Yes, I reproduced this scenario as you mentions, the logicalDisk - Free Megabytes has 5 minutes interval update, however, since there is not a specific document for the CategoryName property, it is not clear why it performs a 300s interval update. My suggestion
is that you could post this feedback to the team:
    https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio
If your goal is to monitor the disk usage, you could have a try with the WMI approach:
    System.Management.ManagementScope scope =
    new System.Management.ManagementScope(@"\\remotemachinename\root\cimv2");
    ObjectQuery query =
    new ObjectQuery("SELECT Name, Freespace FROM Win32_LogicalDisk WHERE DriveType=3");
    ManagementObjectSearcher search = new ManagementObjectSearcher(scope, query);
    ManagementObjectCollection results = search.Get();
    foreach (ManagementObject mo in results)
    Console.WriteLine("Drive: {0} -- Free Space: {1}", mo["Name"], mo["FreeSpace"]);

  • Max refresh rates

    Hi,
I own a MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 VTD and as I will soon get 3D glasses, I need to get the highest refresh rates it can give. My monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 900 NF and it can handles 160Hz at 800x600 or 132Hz at 1024x768 (these are the 2 resolutions I plan to use).
Unfortunately reading the spec of my MSI Geforce 4, it seems that it cannot handle the same refresh rates  At 800x600, it can handle 150Hz and at 1024x768 it can do 120Hz. I know the difference is not so important but as I plan to tweak the settings to their max (and it is really required for 3D stereovision), I need to know the exact max capabilities of the card.
What seem strange to me is that other Geforce 4 Ti4200 based card (such as the Asus) have MUCH higher refresh rate capabilities and can display at 200-240Hz at those resolution!!!!!!!!! And this is for the exact same chipset so I find this a little disturbing.
Do you know if the refresh rates indicated on the MSI manual (and on their website) really are the maximum refresh rates or only recommended refresh rates for any resolution? I cannot believe the MSI GF 4 Ti4200 can "only" do 120Hz at 1024x768........................
Will I damage the card if I go above these settings (f.ex use 160Hz at 800x600 rather then the "max" written 150Hz of the card)????
    Many thanks

    From Apples own technical documents.

    Thanks.

I upped the log verbosity on Xorg and checked the Xorg.0.log file. I found some interesting things.
    First, I found this line:
(II) I810(0): Will use BIOS call 0x5f05 to set refresh rates for CRTs.
    Later on, I found these:
(WW) I810(0): Extended BIOS function 0x5f05 not supported.
(II) I810(0): BIOS call 0x5f05 not supported, setting refresh with VBE 3 method.
(WW) I810(0): Set VBE Mode rejected this modeline.
    Trying standard mode instead!
Presumably, "standard mode" is an eye-watering 60Hz.
This is on a Dell Optiplex GX260 with BIOS revision A09. The video chipset is an onboard Intel 82845 and the driver is Xorg's i810.
Everything works fine with Sun's X server. I get a nice 87Hz refresh at 1024x768. I'm surprised that Xorg can't set the refresh on this machine. It's listed as Test Suite Level 2 certified in the HCL. Unless somebody can tell me what I'm doing wrong here, I'm going to post this incompatibility as a comment on the HCL.

  • Quicktime Video on an LCD Projector Problems & Refresh Rate?

I'm having an issue and don't have a lot of experience with this but hopefully someone has some insight.
When i play back video (formats including DV, DV50, HDV, PRORES422 / interlaced or progressive / frame rates of 23.98 or 29.97) in full screen using Quicktime Player (version 7.4.5) and Present (Shift CMD F) to a projector, the video plays and looks good, with the exception of during certain portions of the video (generally, with a lot of motion), i see either a flicker or what appears to be a scan line, tear, or a trace that scrolls vertically up the image. The flickering/trace is consistent with regard to a particular portion of the video, though when i adjust the refresh rate for the projector, the behavior of the flicker or scrolling trace changes (say at 60hz, it scrolls slowly up vs 85hz where i see mostly flickering/tearing of the image or multiple traces scrolling up). I've tried 3 different projectors, and every combination of screen resolution and refresh rate with no success.
I should point out that when i play these videos full screen on a cinema display (20in or 23in) i don't see this behavior at all.
So, i have a few specific questions:
    1. Is anyone familiar with this behavior and any solutions?
    2. The projector is connected with a VGA cable and DVI adapter. Might a DVI cable resolve the issue? Is the behavior a result of the analog input? (The cinema displays are connected via DVI and don't exhibit the behavior)
    3. If it is a projector issue, any recommendations on a good projector for presenting video played back from a computer?
Thanks in advance for your help. If i've posted in the incorrect forum, please do direct me to the right place.
    Shane

Just a fast reply... something to think about...
Use 60hz, most lcd are 60hz. Check you resolution specs for the projector. If the native resolution is 800x600 use that setting if higher use that.....
If your using the lcd as a secondary display try setting the main display to the same specs. Sometime a mismatch between the two displays can cause problems.
Go with the lcd spec settings that's the main priority and the main display isn't.
