Regarding Webdynpro at Slim edition

Hey guys,
i have installed SP11 Sneak preview slim edition from SDN download.
Now i want to work with Webdynpro. I could not see NWDS installed in my system. In my system-start-programs..i could not see NWDS installed.
I tried
C:\SAPNetWeaver04SneakPreviewSlimSP11\J2EE-CD\IDE
JDTSetup..but it gives 3options and continues with finish button.
If i try Eclipse..i could not find J2EE engine at Preferences..
Am i doing something wrong..
Pls guide me how to have startup with Webdynpro..here

Urgent - 404 not found in senak preview NDS slim edition on windows XP

I am new to SAP EP. I installed sneak preview slim edition on my windows XP home. I got some error during installation and it asked me to retry and when
I clicked retry ...it installed everything fine.My main idea is to look at portal so I read some documents and followed the precedure.
I went into Management console and started J2E tree.. now when I type on browser "http://localhost:50000/irj/portal", it says 404 Not Found

The requested resource does not exist.

When I click on the main page ,its going to http://localhost:50000/index.html and this page opens fine. Does someone how to fix this.
I did one simple webdynpro application from help and it worked..but I cant seem to get the portal page displayed.

slim edition java dosent have portal. you need to go for full edition.

Sneak Preview Slim Edition

Does this edition contain Enterprise portal ,KM and Coll.Please reply.Thanks.

Hi Pankaj,
The Slim edition does not contain EP, KM & Collaboration. It contains the SAP Web AS and NetWeaver Developer Studio and is really - as it's name implies - kind of a NetWeaver "lite" version with much smaller download file and less memory consumption.
However, the Java edition contains these additional components you mentione - and, I'm happy to report, it's back online again!

SLIM Edition SLD?

Okay this is duplicate, but since the other question about this went unnoticed I will ask again.
I installed the slim version of the new java sneak-preview edition. I am now stuck on trying to get the SLD service configured. I can only see an option to configure the SLD data supplier in the J2EE visual administrator tool, but not the SLD service. Can someone who has successfully configured the SLD in the slim edition please explain to me what you did to get it working? I already know that when SLD is running it can be found at http://<host>:<port>/sld, however this doesn't work as the SLD service is not running.
Usually it is a matter of making a few changes in the visual admin tool to get it running and then restarting the J2EE afterwards. However I do not see anything listed for SLD, beyond the data provider service?
Please do not suggest the full version instead, as I can't install it due to the fact that the defaulting of the password to a poor choice of length, prevents installation on our corporate network.

have you noticed that there is a New installer for NW Java Sneak Preview which allows you to change the password for OS SAP users? The Slim Edition contains no SLD according to other Forum entries.

Slim Edition and Portal

Hi,
I have installed the slim edition. and now i want EP on top of it. I have downloaded EP SP11 from service marketplace. When i run the sapinst.exe it gives me the error "Couldnot find the file
C:/.../.../sapinst-cd/tools/.../setup.ini"

Slim Edition Java after update to SP13

I have updated the WebAS 6.40 Slim Edition to SP13. This went smooth with the "normal" SARs from service marketplace.
However, after the update starting the WebAs takes much longer than before. Any chance the slim version has been changed to a "normal" one?
Since I do not really know what makes the slim version slim (is it just settings, config?), any chance I switch it back? This quick startup was pretty convenient for me.

Installing WAS Preview Java Edition over top of Slim Edition

Hi,
After some initial difficulties we were able to successfully install the Slim Edition Preview from a DVD provided by SAP.
We would now like the Java Edition Preview which includes Enterprise Portal. Is possible to install the Java edition over the top or do we need to uninstall Slim edition first? Is there any way to just install EP without interfering with our stable J2EE server?

Hi Frank,
I updated the WAS preview to SP13 and it was a total mess and 4 week loss of lifetime. Never tried to do it with the portal demo though.
If the sdm hangs try the following:
- wait 5 min, then click retry
- if it happens again wait 5 min, then click retry
- if it happens again wait 5 min, then click retry
- if it happens again wait 5 min, then click retry
(no joke)
If this fails it will be most likely that your DB has run out of log space. The SAP system usually honors that with freezing without any apparent reason or log output. A colleague of mine has escalated this more than one week to SAP Support and event they didn't figure it out.
Try stopping the install and the sap system. When the sdm process keeps hanging and the DB will not shut down you are 99% likely to have the log problem. Get the win mysql DB manager, login to your db (default pw: control/control) and go to configuration->log volumes. Set the log strategy to "overwrite" (on test systems) restart and it should work.

MSVBVM50.DLL (Slim Edition)

Hello,
After I click on the file start.exe (not start.bat, which isn't available as mentioned in the documentation) I get the error message
This application has failed to start because MSVBVM50.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
Well, I didn't reinstall this file on my Windows 2003 machine, since it wasn't there in the first place.
So I started sapinst, and the installation worked.

About SneakPreview Slim Edition 2004 and 2004s edition.

I have downloaded the slimedition i.e. SAPNetWeaver04SneakPreviewSlimSP11.zip and installed on the system. Now i came to know that this edition does not have <b>SLD</b>. More over my system has only 512 MB of ram and i can not upgrade that as that is my office system. So please tell me what i have to do to get the SLD for this.
When I enter into the useradmin i dont know the default user and default password. similarly for j2ee examples and so on.. i dont know the default username and password for them also..
Please anyone reply me. That is more help full for me.

Also, other versions need atleadt 1GB RAM so only solution I can think is buy one personal notebook Just kidding...
Normally we have to provide all the passwords during installation but I am not sure how that works for slim edition. Do you get Visual Admin, if yes then try restting the password using SAP* user.

Requirements for Slim Edition

I have just downloaded WAS Slim Edition.
1. I have a Win XP Home edition laptop. Would it be possible to install it on this.
2. My RAM is 512MB. However i have a 100GB of hard drive capacity. Is there a way i can somehow i can improve my system performance by allowing some part of my hard drive as a kind of swap space.
3. Can i deploy JDI sca's on the slim version. Is this advisable.
4. What is the SP version of Slim Edition. Can i upgrade it to the latest version of WAS i.e. SP13 by downloading the upgrades from service marketplace and applying patches.
Please do let me know your suggestions on these points.

1. You should be able to install. Your Harddisk must have NTFS File system. Please be aware of the limitations.
2. I've also installed with 512 MB. Thats quite ok. Windows automatically creates a swap file. But when your System is going to swap, performance decreases enormously.

4. The SP of Slim Edition is 11. I don't think that you can upgrade. But you can give it a try.

Did you install SAPDB?. Seems like the DB is not installed or is offline, <b>ERROR EXECUTING DBMCLI COMMAND</b> seems like DBMCLI commands are not been recognized.. Did you when through all th pre-installation checks?

Hi,
JDK 1.5 is not supported for NW installs. 1.4.2_10 is supported, but 1.4.2_08 is recommended. You can download the older JDK from the Sun website.
If you still have problems with the older JDK, post the contents of your jload.java.log for us to view.

Sneak Preview Slim Edition and SLD

Hi,
I've installed the Web AS Sneak Preview Slim Edition (corresponding to SP11) that is available at SDN. But when I tried to start the SLD accessing http://localhost:50000/sld the message "resource does not exist" appeared. The url above is definitely correct - other administration frontends, e.g. useradmin, are reachable. Seems that SLD or at least SLD administration is not included in the slim edition. Is that true? And if so, is there any possibility to update the missing parts?

Gregor, thanks for your reply. As a consequence of the Sneak Preview Slim Edition limitation concerning SLD, I tried to install a Web AS 6.40 SR1 installation, downloaded from service marketplace. Things started wonderful, but eventually, in step 21 out of 22, the J2EE engine failed to start. I found this error message in startJ2e.log:
running C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\exe/sapstart.exe name=J2E nr=00 SAPDIAHOST=blnn0050 -wait
SAPSTART finished successfully on blnn0050_J2E_00, but at least one process doesn't run correctly:
C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\exe/sapstart.exe=>sapparam(1c): No Profile used.
Has anyone an idea how to overcome this failure? Which profile is missing and how to get it? Manual start using MMC does not help.

Problems downloading Slim Edition

I am having problems downloading the Slim Edition. It stays at 10.2 MB of 1.17 GB forever. The transfer rate is 118 KB/Sec. I am downloading the file using a cable modem connection.
Please advise.

I think the best most efficent way to confirm this is to contact the developers using the App page and clicking any Support link
