Registry path for Automatic Updates in Windows 8

Hello,
I have a requirement to uncheck the check box shown in image below.
Is there any registry path that I can edit or any script to do the same.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
See this thread with the exact same question:

This is funny.  The answer points back to the question because the two threads were merged.
Thank you Bill and KhushbooPatel.  You have created a black hole.  The Internet will never be the same.
is KhushbooPatel like "Baby Boo Boo"?  I thought "Khush" was spelled "Kush".  You know...K2 and all that.

  • How do I get a reliable schedule for automatic update in Windows Server 2012 R2?

I don't understand why MS broke the automatic update in Windows Server 2012 R2. In previous versions, I used to set it for automatic updates - Saturdays at 2AM. I can no longer pick a weekly update in the GUI and the time seems to have no impact on its capricious
reboots due to updates.   It might happen 2 days later at noon.   The best option for now is to just shut off the automatic updates but I'm reading this issue has been around since 2012 R1.   There supposedly is a fix/patch for
2012 but it doesn't say if the patch is for 2012 R2 and the automatic updates haven't installed a fix that actually fixes what is broken with the automatic updates.
Why even leave the GUI for automatic updates if it doesn't mean anything?
Is there a simple registry key I can change so updates occur according to the schedule that you created in the GUI?      Please no powershell - worst crutch MS ever created to not fix their own gui.
I'm seeing people have tried some advanced work around using GPO but many said those don't work reliably either on hosts or domain controllers.

  • How Do You Filter, Or Stop Automatic Updates From Windows or HP to a Windows 8, 2000 Notebook PC.

I would like to know how I can see automatic updates from Windows or HP before they go into my computer?  The reason is, is that these auto updates mess up my IE and my printer software.  I have a HP 2000 Notebook PC, Windows 8, 64 bit.  I would like to be able to filter or see these updates before they go in my computer.  Is there anything I can do, or a setting I can set?
    Thanks,

    Hi Mikipups,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP 2000 Notebook and issues  Microsoft updates. Here is a fix from Microsoft.
Type Update in the Start Menu search box, select Windows Update from the top of the menu and in Windows Update select Change Settings on the left side of the window.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why doesn't Firefox automatically update in Window 7?

Firefox does not automatically update, even thought it is supposed to. One needs to log into an Administrator account for it to updates. Previous versions before 8.0 also had this problem. A suggestion to Mozilla: post a message that updates are available.

  • Windows 8 Enterprise automaticly updated to Windows 8.1 pro

    Hi all,
My company computer at my home location is running windows 8 enterprise.
yesterday i came home and there was a message in the screen asking for a reboot.
the reboot was needed for the update to 8.1  it sayd.
when the computer was rebooted several times, it suddenly asked me for a Licence key, this while there is a corporate licence.
then i checked the windows vertion and it is windows 8.1 pro now.
can anyone tell me what the hell happened and how i can revert this?
    Kind regards.
    Bas

    Hi,
This is not possible. Windows 8.1 upgrades are available in the Windows Store or on media. However, when you upgrade to Windows 8.1 from the Windows Store, you cannot change editions. Upgrading to a different edition of Windows 8.1 is supported from media
    only.
Volume license version of Windows 8 Enterprise cannot be upgraded from the Windows Store. You must use media to upgrade these editions.
It would be helpful for us to do further troubleshooting if you could help to collect the following information:
Did you mean the Windows Editions you are running in the Company and at home were not same?
If yes, I think the edition when you were facing that ask to update to Windows 8.1 should not be the Windows 8 Enterprise.
Use your antivirus scan the whole computer and then double the version of the current system: right click Computer ->Properties ->under Windows Edition section, check the current edition.
Contact your IT admin to make if they push the related updates.

  • How to set applications for automatic updates?

Some apps are updated automatically and others require approval before the update takes place. Is there a way to change an installed app from the approval-needed mode to automatic updates?

sgmccunn, We can understand the importance wanting to chose to do an automatic update for your applications. Unfortunately, if the application does not give the ability to auto update it cannot be overridden. Some app creators want people to know what they are chosing to upgrade. It does require approval beforehand.

  • Registry entrie for installed updates

How to check whether an update is installed from registry in Windows Server 2012 R2? My requirement is - I want to install an update based on whether another dependent update is installed e.g. to install the latest update for 2012 R2 we need the KB2919442
to be installed. I would like to know which registry entries correspond to an update and based on that install the dependent updates using a script.

    Hi ChristopherJC,
If you can run powershell script to check the installed updates on the server, please check this script, which get the software updates, however, it isn't based on the registry:
    $UpdateSession = New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.Session
    $SearchResult = $null
    $UpdateSearcher = $UpdateSession.CreateUpdateSearcher()
    $UpdateSearcher.Online = $true
    $SearchResult = $UpdateSearcher.Search("IsInstalled=1 and Type='Software'")
    $i = 1
    foreach($Update in $SearchResult.Updates)
    Write-Host "$i) $($Update.Title + " | " + $Update.SecurityBulletinIDs)"
    $i += 1

  • Creating a DB_ENV environment/setting a directory path for db's in Windows

I have a small visual studio 2005 c++ program where I am trying to specify which directory to open my database from. I use db_env_create to create my environment and then I try to use DB_ENV->set_data_dir to set my path but it keeps returning a non 0 number and not setting my path. Did I miss any steps?
    Thanks

Here is an example that I tried and it is crashing at the set_cachesize.
I don't set the cachesize it then crashes at the dbenv->open. Any idea why I am crashing? I am using Berkeley version 4.6.21 with Windows xp and visual studio 2005.
    Thanks.

  • Any way to set iTunes for automatic updates?

For example, if I have a "My Music" folder, and I copy over some MP3 files from wherever, is there a way to set iTunes to automatically "watch" that folder for new files and add them to the library when it finds them? I haven't been able to find a feature that does this.
If not, why not? "Watch folders" have been in use for years on my other music players.

No. Itunes has no such feature

  • Logic for automatic update

    Hi,
I have a table say, order_items with the following structure:
    id number(10)
    item varchar2(10)
    line_no number(10)
    order_id number(10)
If the data looks like this:
    id item line_no order_id
    1 PEN 1 4
    2 PENCIL 2 4
    3 BOOK 3 4
    4 ERASER 4 4
If I have a requirement where I have to update the PENCIL item at line_no 2 and move it to line 3, I want to shift the rest of the items down by one number, how do I do it?
Due to the way my application is set up I cannot do that update in my application code. It HAS to be a database trigger. If I use a trigger, I would get Mutating error. Is there a way around that Mutating error? If I put it in a statement-level trigger it would iterate indefinitely (I think)...
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

Can you explain a bit as to why this needs to happen in a trigger? Are you sure it can't happen in a stored procedure that the application calls?

  • Why do some sites say my browser is out of date (v 3.6) when I am using Firefox 17.0.1 and am on the release update channel for automatic updates?

In Facebook and while trying to access an online support mechanism at HP, I receive messages telling me that my browser is out of date. The HP site identified my version as 3.6, when I am actually using version 17.0.1. At least when I click on Help, About Firefox, it tells me I am using v. 17.0.1. Why does this happen? On the HP site, I could not fill in the online registration info as I was receiving javascript errors, along with the browser outdate error.
Even your own analysis below, sees my browser as v. 3. What gives?

  • Windows 8 to 8.1 automatic update doesn't finish

(Model # m6-k010dx) My new laptop after 13 months automatically updated from windows 8 to 8.1 after I had said 'no' as many times as it allowed. After the update my files are still on it and most things are there but it seems 'stuck' and the orange screen keeps flickering like start to desktop so fast you usually can't even click anything in time to open it before it switches. I was told that the drivers probably needed to be updated first (eventhough I am pretty sure I kept up with all my other updates that popped up the only one I postponed was 8.1) and that I should refresh it, so I lose my programs but keep my files. I'm so sad I now lost Photoshop cs6 and my prefered antivirus (webroot) But anyway back to 8.0, it functioned fine aside from annoying pop ups to install norton antivirus no thank you, i bought webroot again. no updates were available.
I went to HP.com drivers update, searched for my pc and its correct update, and next thing I know is it's installing windows 8.1....??!
So again when it's 'done' and reboots, the screens flicker forever. I shut down, restart, same. so I put it back to windows 8... i have just been borrowing my friends computer to get work down and contact geeksquad on my 1 day off but they only tell me to go to best buy and pay them $127 for them to update my PC to an UNWANTED OS. But i have to give my friend his PC back soon. Please help asap!!!
Also forgot to mention when the screens are flickering, a few explorer.exe - application errors pop up on occaision. IE: "the instruction at 0xaa0c663c referenced memory at 0xaa0c663c. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program." was one the last time,
and the time before it, the initial windows 8.1 update when I still had Webroot antivirus, the pop up said "the instruction at 0x9b63663c referenced memory at 0x9b63663c. The memory could not be written. Click ok to terminate the program." the other pop ups the initial time came from Webroot - IE: "This file is trying to install itself to start every time the computer turns on  C:\Windows\system32\DrvInst.exe" and gives the options to block, allow once, or allow always.
Another trying to install every time computer starts is "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\WMIADAP.EXE"
and another is : "Process ID: 4244
    Thread ID: 3460
    Event Type: Registry
    Access: Write
    Registry Key: \REGISTRY\MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\NDIS\IfTypes\131
    Value: IfUsedNetLuidIndices"
I searched all of those but found nothing. THank you in advance

    Hi @ASAP666
Thank you for your query, I will try my utmost to help you resolve this difficulty.
As you seem to be getting multiple errors I suggest you do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
This will reinstall the Windows 8 OS but should not affect your personal setting.
If you do not want the update here is a link to  Turn automatic updating on or off
    from windows.microsoft.com
Before trying the update again please run the  HP Support Assistant   to aid with HP updates?
Once that has be accomplished here is a link to Updating Windows 8 to 8.1 to help you with the Windows 8.1 update.
If you do not want the Norton as you have Webroot you can uninstall the program.
    Good Luck!

  • How to get automatic updates for P750 custom build

I recently purchased a custom built P750 and want to sign up for automatic updates. There is no option for just a P750 which is my complete model number.
    8GB ram
    I7 2.20GHz
Windows HP SP1 with all updates installed at this time.
How can I get automatic updates for this machine and operating system and if so, how do I get signed up for those?
Should I just choose a model number and pretend it is the model I have? Which number should I choose?

All computers in the same part-number family (PSAY3U) are essentially the same. The drivers and utilities for this one should work.

  • Why Firefox made automatic update even if I had specially unchecked "check updates for firefox" option?

I hate when software wastes my time for updates. Usually this happens when you are most hurry.
I always uncheck option for automatic updates.
But Firefox still wasted my time and made unwanted update.
Therefore I know now that Firefox is a malware and removed it from my system.

Sorry, it's been like this for over 6 years now, ever since the update feature was added in Firefox 3.0 - right, wrong, or indifferent. If you want the ultimate "say" as to if and when Firefox is updated by other than a definitive "click" by your hand, you need to say '''''Never check for updates ...''''' and then remember to check for updates yourself every 6 weeks so that you don't fall too far behind on security fixes for Firefox.
One change that was made since this thread was started 3 months ago, is that opening '''''Help > About Firefox''''' no longer checks and then downloads an update, if one is available. There is now a '''Update to ...''' button in the About Firefox dialog window.

    Hello @Corinneann,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see Windows did an automatic update to Windows 8.1 and now you are not able to install the software and drivers for your HP Photosmart C8180. You get an error 'Operating system not supported, installation cannot continue'. I would like you to follow the steps listed below:
    1. Unplug the USB if using a direct connection.
    2. Remove the HP C8180 software from your computers Control Panel's Uninstall a program option.
    3. Restart the computer.
    4. Make sure all the PS C8180 software is gone from the programs list as well as your HP folder listed under the All programs in your Start Menu.
    5. Now go ahead and download the software and drivers for your PS C8180 (DO NOT plug in USB until the software prompts you to):
