Reinstall Mountain Lion on 13" macbook pro retina
hi! i am trying to reinstall mountain lion on my new 13" macbook pro retina, however, i cannot proceed and i encounter the message "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer." please help!
I've called Apple Care and they learned me to the following in order to complete a clean install from Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro Retina (otherwise it won't work): http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11273
But, like Clinton said, shouldn't your rMBP come with Moutain Lion on it? And if so, why can't you upgrade to 10.8.2 because I could (with software update) - but my problem was to clean reinstall ML on it from the App Store (that you stil can't do with a rMBP btw).
And a small question off-topic: How long is your (average) shutdown time on your rMBP 13"?

Hi, I already finish download osx maountain lion after 2 attempts for my macbook pro retina. and when I want to sign out from my account at app store, it crash and some crash report show up. and if I sign in it happen also, but the app store still can be run after got the crash report, and I already sent the report to apple. do anyone got this problems ? and for apple : please fix this problems !
Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -

Wondering if there are any smart techies out there willing to help me whilst I wait for Apple's support team to get back to me.
I recently (a few weeks ago) wiped my Macbook Pro (early 2011) 13" 320GB in order to resell it and now I am trying to reinstall OS in order for it to be a fully working laptop again. It originally came with Snow Leopard but I purchased Moutain Lion through the app store when it came out, I then upgraded to Mavericks and had been running that. Now that its fully erased, it gives me a few options on what to do; get online help, launch the disk utility or reinstall os Lion. The problem I have is I never purchased Lion, I only bought Mountain Lion - so when I try going through that route it says I have bought it (obviously). Ive been through disk utility and ran all the checks, everything seems to come back fine and dandy so I am not quite sure what to do now. I don't mind reinstallion Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion or whatever, as long as it becomes a fully functioning laptop again...I can always upgrade it later on.
I would really appreciate any help on this and also I am a complete newbie when it comes to Apple products, so I would be greally grateful for any advice. I should probably add that I can't find any disks that came with the laptop, I never throw anything away but I have read that the older models came with startup disks so I have no idea what to do!
Thannk youPlease only reinstall Snow Leopard if that is the original OS that was pre-installed. You must not install any later version of OS X that you acquired because it will not work for the buyer. This also holds true for any App Store software you purchased using your Apple ID. You should not reinstall any of that software because it is useless to another owner. The following procedure will make a fresh installation of Snow Leopard that can be upgraded to 10.6.8. That's all you should provide.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Please google search for "Mountain Lion disk crash" before upgrading you mac pro. You might need to replace you Mac hard drive after the upgrade.So many people had the same problems including me.
Be aware of the Mountain Lion upgrade problem. -
I recently attempted to re-install Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro late 2012 model and the internet recovery is failing. I have absolutely no clue what to do here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
- Currently if I boot it up there is a flashing folder icon with a question mark in it. I am assuming this means there is no OS because I wiped the SSD and tried to reinstall Mountain Lion
- When I hold Command+R, it prompts me to Choose Network... the problem with this is the wifi constantly is disconnecting. The Retina 2012 does not have an ethernet port so i have considered buying the attachment then returning when done.

No, since you have already "purchased" (even if for free) 10.8 on the App Store with your AppleID, you own it, so you can reinstall as much as you want.

Any ideas ?This doesn't work for me at all. I tried entering exactly the same information that I used to set up my regular email account and I'm still getting an error message. I even tried switching to using my gmail account and neither one worked. Then it got hung up and had to repair my database! I have a lot of photos on my Mac (thank goodness they're backed up) and I was really sweating it for a moment.
Apple is so easy until it's not. I find this to be really aggrevating and I'm irritated that it hasn't been fixed. In fact I did an online search and someone described this same problem in detail and it was exactly what was happening to me. Same error messages.
I'm frustrated that Apple keeps updating it's operating system and then we go through these glitches.
And while I'm at it, I have never had such a frustrating time using my login information as I have to get into this forum! Why do they make it so difficult? There's just something about the way it's worded that get's me messed up every time. Meanwhile, at least get iPhoto fixed! -

Restart your mac in Safe Mode by holding down the 'shift' key while it powers up. You'll know if you've entered Safe Mode correctly if you see a progress bar underneath the grey Apple logo screen. Let go of the shift key when you see that, wait for the progess bar to complete then log in.
After log in, go to
> System Preferences... Users & Groups and remove everything from the 'Login Items' tab.
If you have any anti-virus software installed (Sophos, F-Secure, VirusBarrier, Mackeeper) uninstall it while in Safe Mode.
Restart your mac normally and test.

Hold the Option key down and restart. Select one of the drives that comes up and hit the Return key.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. I've just installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro and cannot now open Preview. I've partly solved the reading of PDF documents by installing Adobe Reader, but Preview is also stalling the log out process. Any suggestions how I might solve this annoying trait would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

I have an Epson scanner that is apparently no longer supported because it is a PowerPC app. It's a very good scanner that worked fine until I upgraded to OS Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions on how I can continue to use it?
