Reinstallation issues with recovery cd on a Satellite A100

I have tried to reinstall OS in my computer.
When I run a recovery cd I get a Recovery Utility.
I did it and the hard disk drive was formated.
But now I have only one partition-disk C and everything is on it.
I do not understand what is happened, but I would like to have two partitions. I tried to do it again
but I still get the same Recovery Utility.
What can I do ? Is there anyone who can help me ?

Hello
If you want to create two partitions please use SETUP option. After choosing the right language new menu window occurs. Please click on the SETUP button on the right side.
In the middle of the screen you will see small window. Please choose the first option and choose how much capacity the first partition should have. Click on OK and continue recovery procedure.
After OS installation finishes setup procedure and start WXP. You will see that only partition C is shown but with right capacity. Now start 'Disc management' and create logical partition. After formatting it job is done and you will have two partitions.
If you have more questions please write again.
BTW: you do not need any other partition applications.

  • Problems with various professional soundcards and Satellite A100

    Hi All,
I bought a Satellite A100 less than a year ago and have had problems with 2 different professional soundcards when using Cubase.
    - M-Audio firewire solo plugged into Texas Instruments PCMCIA card
    - Echo Indigo io (PCMCIA card)
I'm running Windows XP and Cubase SE/SX3. When running Cubase, there are cracks, sound stops for a few milliseconds.
I've never had any problems with my old Toshiba Satellite Pro A40 notebook. This is very disappointing and frustrating. I only use my new Toshiba for the Internet!!
    Could someone help?
    Cheers,
    Fred

This info helped me to overcome the dreaded glitch last year.
But I have lost wireless networking on my A100 which is very annoying :-S
    See below.
But not to my knowledge has there been proper acknowledgement of this problem by Toshiba (please prove me wrong on this Toshiba right now!!!)

    Hi A,
    Sorry for not responding sooner.
The way I changed the driver was -
    Open Device Manager
    Click the '+' at 'Computer'
Right click on the 'ACPI Multiprocessor PC' entry and select 'Update Driver...'
When the Device Driver Wizard comes up, select 'No, Not This Time' when it asks if 'Windows can connect to Windows update to search for software', then click Next
On the next screen, select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and click Next
On the next screen, select 'Don't seach. I will choose the driver to install' and click Next
Then you'll get a list of drivers, select MPS Multiprocessor PC (assuming your laptop is Dual Core) then Next
After that, follow any other instructions - I can only give you a step by step guide this far otherwise I'll end up re-installing the driver on my working laptop (I was just working through it and noting down the steps). I'd back up any data you have beforehand aswell - I didn't lose anything when I did it but it's better to be safe.
When I did this procedure, I had to reinstall a lot, if not all, of my drivers - most were picked up by Windows but the odd one or two needed the drivers from the Toshiba website, I can't remember exactly which ones but it wasn't too painful. Everything works fine now, including the Wireless connection.
Hopefully this will work OK for your laptop - it's not the exact same model I have so you may get different results but all the best anyway!
    Cheers.

    Hi
Seems the actually graphic driver does not support the Corel Draw version
In my opinion you have to update the graphic driver. If you already use the newest version I assume you have to wait until new version will be published.
But did you contact the Corel Draw support??? Do it!

  • Issues with CD/DVD drive on Satellite A350-12D

    Hi,
I just bought my Toshiba Satellite A350-12D laptop two weeks ago, and am generally pleased with it, however I cannot get it to read data-DVD's properly.
When I try to read a data DVD that I burned on my desktop PC, the laptop starts to read but takes very, very, very long.
When I try to copy the data on the DVD to my laptop, it takes forever (I've tried once for 45 minutes and then gave up) and after a while it starts claiming it can't read most of the files on the DVD.
It's not the data on the disks that's causing problems, cause when I transfer those from my desktop to my laptop on a USB stick instead of a DVD, the files are copied immediately without a problem.
At first I figured it might be due to the DVD disks themselves (I use TDK DVD+ROM), or maybe Vista was the culprit, but I've tried the exact same disks on my friend's Medion laptop that's also running Vista and she's having no issues whatsoever.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this or better yet, what could solve it?
    Thanks in advance!
    Eva

    > When I try to read a data DVD that I burned on my desktop PC, the laptop starts to read but takes very, very, very long.
Hmm I think this could be a problem of non-fully compatible DVDs.
My notebooks drive couldnt read or write some DVDs from different manufacturers.
I tested many disks and now Im using TDK DVD-R.
But its always different. Possibly your drive would not support this disk properly but another disk would be supported better
I think you should test it simply. There are many different disk manufacturers so dont give up buddy

  • Memory Issues with D: Drive on my Satellite L500

This question is regarding my Satellite L500!
Right so my D drive has 148GB of memory and currently has just over 3GB left. I keep getting told to clear it down but when looking through the files there is 7GB taken by "HDD Recovery" and somewhere around 80GB taken up by "Windows Image Backup". This obviously doesnt come to more than 87GB however i cant find anymore files that are taking up space.
My question is why has it become so full? I do a backup every sunday, and have had the laptop less than a year.
Any help would be appriciated, if you need anymore info let me know and i'll tell you ^^
    Thanks guys,
    George

    > My question is why has it become so full? I do a backup every sunday, and have had the laptop less than a year
You said you backup the data every Sunday and the 80GB are used by "Windows Image Backup
This means that the backups which you create every Sunday takes the space on the HDD...
By the way: HDD Recovery is Toshiba HDD image which allows you to recover the notebook without the usage of recovery disk. But I still recommend creating the recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery disk creator.
This is important in case something would go wrong with HDD!

  • Issue with recovery disks purchased from HP

I had a harddrive failure on the HP Pavilion 21-h010. Instead of utilizing the warranty, I decided to purchase a new harddrive and restore disks from HP.
Initially, I had the error where I was told that the disks could not be used for the system. I found that while the Build ID on the disks ( 14AM1ARA601 ) mostly matched my system ( 14AM1ARA602 ), investigating the restore disk revealed it was looking for a Build ID of ( 14EM1ARA602 ). After changing the Buidl ID in the computer, I was able to kick off the restore process.
After the 4th disk is used and removed, and the system reboots, it runs through some commands and red screens. I pulled the drive and found an error log with this detail:
    *x:\opktools\imagex.exe /check /export /ref c:\sources\INSTALL*.SWM "c:\sources\INSTALL.SWM" USW864ML-S "c:\sources\BASEIMAGE.WIM" BASE_IMAGE
    ImageX Tool for Windows

    Version: 6.3.9600.16384
    Exporting: [c:\sources\INSTALL.SWM, USW864ML-S] ->
    [c:\sources\BASEIMAGE.WIM]
The specified image [USW864ML-S] was not found in [c:\sources\INSTALL.SWM].
Failed to export the base image!
Seems to me that the portion of the image is missing or damaged.
    Does anyone have any thoughts?

  • Issues with Recovery from recovery disc I created

Product Name and Number: HP G60-519WM notebook
Operating System installed: Windows 7 64-bit
I am trying to recover my system from a recovery disc I created, but am not having any luck. From the Systems Recovery Options, I get as far as it saying 'Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows. Select operating system to repair. If your operating system isn't listed click Load Drivers and then install drivers for your hard discs', which (NO OPERATING SYSTEM IS LISTED AT ALL) After I've clicked 'Load Drivers', I get the message, "Insert the installation media for the device and click OK to select driver."   I'm stuck at this point....what driver(s) do I add and what else do I do to fix my laptop?
*Also from the Recovery Manager window, of the three help columns I am only able to select from second column titled ->I'd like to identify any problems.
    PLEASE HELP

Thanks for responding to me, but is there no other way that I can solve this issue? In other words without cost? I don't even understand why this happened to me....I regularly do system clean ups, always check for updates, rarely download anything, etc.
One day I turned on my laptop and initially got a blue screen saying something happened (don't remember word for word) and restarted it per it's suggestion hoping it would fix itself....after I did, it came on making weird sounds and black screen telling me to insert reboot disc and press any key??? My financial status is bad currently and don't have luxury of $20 nor any amount. Please tell me there is another way??????

  • Strange issue with Power Saver on my Satellite M30

When connected via mains to the power supply, my laptop is completely fine. However, when not connected (i.e. using it on battery), it shows 100% battery until about 90%, when I get a Windows Error Window "Toshiba Power Saver must be closed, would you like to send an error report etc." and then my battery on the taskbar becomes Critical - 3%.
Also, at this point, my processor speed slows down (which is noticable because applications take longer to load etc.) as if the laptop was going into Power Saver mode. I thought maybe this is a display error, so I left the laptop on just to see - and it turned itself off 5 minutes later!
Is this a software error or a faulty battery? Any and all help appreciated.
    Best regards.

    Hi John,
I think you may have a defective battery but just to be sure I would recommend that you reload the Toshiba Power Management software and then check the default settings for actions to be taken with display brightness, cpu speed, hard drive, etc. at the various stages of the battery capacity.
It is normal for the display brightness to reduce in stages as the battery capacity diminishes, and it is also normal for the CPU speed to slow as well. You can change this behaviour if you wish from within the Toshiba Power Management utility.

  • Low data transfer with memory stick on a Satellite A100-207

Hi, whenever I stick the memory stick from my Sony Ericsson P990i Smartphone into my notebook it says it has detected new hardware and needs to reboot to use it.
I kinda expected this first time, but it does it EVERY TIME now. Which means transfering files onto the memory stick takes a lot longer than it should and it is far easier (but a lot less convient) to transfer them via my network to my main home PC and use the card reader in my Epson printer to put the files on the memory stick.
Anyone know why this happens and how to stop it. I need to regularly update files on the memory stick as they are edited both on the laptop and the phone (via QucikOffice which comes pre-installed and alows editing of word and excel files).
Any help or ideas is appreicated.
    Andy

I agree with Andrej. You should be 100% sure that this card is compatible with the card reader on the notebook.
Furthermore what transfer rate do you expect?
I think every card has different write/read access times. So do not compare it with other cards.

  • I can't finde the recovery disc from my Satellite A100-163

My A100 will not load - can't find the recovery disc. Can I use my A60 recovery disc on my A100 - 163 laptop?

Sorry, but you cant use the recovery disk from the A60. It will not work.
You can order a new recovery disk from Toshiba:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/
Or you go to an ASP (authorized service provider) to get a new one:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an ASP
You can also use an original Microsoft disk, but there you must install all drivers manual and this takes a lot of time.

  • Strange burning issue on Satellite A100

    Hi!
I just stumbled on a curious problem. When I burned a DVD with Nero, it worked fine. The 2nd one worked but after playing the movie for about 38 minutes the movie just stops playing and the light on the DVD burner lights up consciously. I've already tried reburning the movie and burned another one but both stop playing after about 38 minutes (burned them with another computer and burner: the movies worked).
But then I notice a lot of errors in the windows log:
    Damaged block in device \Device\CdRom0.
And another thing I noticed: the DVDs were burned at 6x, not the 8x speed the burner of this laptop supports.
Does this mean the DVD burner is broken?
    With regards,

    Philips DVD+R 4,5GB 1-8 speed

    Hi
In my pinion it usually caused by a scratched or damaged cd. Try to clean it and see if it helps. If it works fine with some disks then its not the drive.
Some drives dont accept every media. Many CDs and DVDs are not compatible and therefore the drive burns the files not properly on the CD or DVD.
You could check different medias for the similar problems.
One little tip: In the user manual you should find a list of compatible CD and DVD. I think you should try to burn files or movies on one of the mentioned medias. Possibly it will work.

  • Hard Disk issue with Toshiba Satellite P755-S5390

Well, I'm at my wit's end on this one so after several months of searching for an answer I'm presenting this one to my fellow Toshiba users.
I have a Toshiba Satellite P755  that I purchased around March of 2012 so it is well out of warranty unfortunately. I'm having an odd issue that could just be a faulty hard drive but I wanted to see if anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas that might lead this to be a recurring issue with other Toshibas.
The first symptoms my laptop experienced were the computer locking up and the hard drive light staying lit constantly. This first happened right after I was using WIn 7 disk management to shrink the main partition so I could create a second partition. The exact step this happened at was when I had already shrunk the main partition and had just finished creating the second partition. It hadn't even refreshed the disk management screen when it just locked up completely.
I left it locked up for almost a half hour and then did a forced shutdown and when it came back up it was really slow and the hard drive light was staying lit constantly. Eventually it wouldn't even start up and the drive light still stayed on constantly (not even blinking, just solid on).
My first thought was obviously hard disk failure so I grabbed a spare that should have worked perfectly as it was just harvested from a perfectly fine little netbook. I popped the drive in and reinstalled Win 7 and it worked fine...for a few weeks. Then it did the exact same thing except this time it eventually just wouldn't recognize any boot media. I cursed my bad luck in having two failed hard drives and used an older one that I had spare that, as I recall, worked fine when I harvested it from the old laptop it came out of. It worked again...for a couple of days. Then it did the same thing as the first (hard drive light staying lit, not responding hardly at all). I even hooked all these little laptop hard drives up to my file servers SATA ports and they loaded fine and I was able to back stuff up.
My dilemma here is that I know it could just be that I was using old hard drives and maybe by some chance they all failed because they were old but I'd hate to buy a new hard drive if that's not the problem.
Has anyone had any similar experiences with their Toshibas? I even tried testing the RAM and even removing one module at a time. I also tried pulling the battery and running it straight from the charger thinking maybe it was shorting something out.
As an additional note. One interesting thing that happened after the third drive went bad was that I plugged in the original hard drive thinking I could further troubleshoot and it worked perfectly fine for about a month. It then proceeded to do the same thing again. That's about where I am now. The only other thing I did was yesterday when I pulled the battery and tried it. It did respond very well for at least long enough to almost finish the reinstall to factory partitions but it failed at the last minute and rebooted. It then loaded the Windows startup screen and locked up with the hard drive light staying lit solid.
Sorry for the novel but I wanted to make sure all my troubleshooting steps were documented so no one suggested those. My last step is to pop in another used drive and install Ubuntu and see what happens then.
    Solved!

How did you reinstall Win 7 on the replacement drive?  Did you use the the Toshiba Recovery Disks you should have created as per the directions on page 74 of your User's Guide, following the recovery directions on page 76, and return your unit to its factory default out-of-the-box setup? What happens if you return your unit to its factory default set up? This is considered the gold standard test on whether you have a hardware problem/failure, as opposed to a driver-software-conflict problem.
You seem quite familiar with Windows Disk Management software, yet you don't mention running the built in disk 'Error-checking' utility.
If you believe you may be suffering from some kind of hard drive problems, this would seem a logical step. You can access this utility by clicking on 'Start' -> click on 'Computer' -> right click on 'C:' drive -> click on 'Properties' -> click on the 'Tools' tab -> under 'Error-checking' click the 'Check now...' button -> put check marks on both the 'Automatically fix....' and 'Scan for...' options -> click the 'Start' button. The utility will inform you it can't be run now and ask if you want to schedule for the next restart, agree and restart your computer. Depending on the size of your hard drive and the problems the utility may encounter this could take from 20 minutes to several hours.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Issues with my Satellite L500

hi everyone, i currently have a toshiba satellite L500, running windows 7, 3 gb ram 350gb hdd..
it was running fine until a fortnight ago, when my computor kept popping up message in the far bottom right hand corner saying windows error, critical error, youre hdd is missing, missing RAM etc etc, a window popped up telling me to do a system scan which i did and it came up with all these very bad errors.. it them popped up a program calle dmemory optimizer and told me to scan and do a defrag.. which i did.. and then teh next thingi knew, the hdd had disapeared from my computor, i couldnt access anything on the desktop, but could tab between the pages i already had open. then teh whole thing crashed.
i did a recovery on my own, and the error appeared to be fixed.. but then would only work properly in safe mode. so i took it to a repairer who charged me $188, reformatt teh whole drive, put on a copy of kapersky and office full version..
the day after getting it home, i noticed when i was typing things, the cursor would move about the page on its own, and id end up typing in the middle of what id already typed, sooo frustrating!! so the tech man suggested i download a program called touchfreeze.. and it fixed it..
now the last day or two, ill be in the middle of working on my laptop and it will just go to a black screen.. and it will resume when i press the mousepad, or it will completely turn off and go into sleep mode..
theres no settings on for sleep or hybernate, so sort of screen saver nothing.. and like i said, it happens when the laptos in use, about every 15 mins and happens several times.. any idea on what could eb the issue??
i could swear there were other issues with my laptop and he just said it was a virus..

Hey man you bomb us with all these issues and your last issue is pretty confusing.
Before we start discussion tell me one: do you use Toshiba recovery image (original operating system you got with your notebook)?
