Remote Play (PS3)

Hi I recently purchased the Xperia Z1 and I was surprised to find that remote play is not a factory feature of this phone ?
I would really like to connect to my PS3 and view PlayTV on my device. Is this likely to never appear onthe Xperia Z1 now PS4 is almost out ?
Cheers

  • The Home Hub PS3 Remote Play Issue

    The problem:
If you set your PS3 to allow remote start via the internet (a better and more 'greener' option than leaving it on all day) and power it down, the PS3 will turn on again only after a few seconds without you connecting via remote play, after nothing connects to the PS3 after 2-3 minutes, the PS3 removes the option to allow remote start via the internet to save the PS3 powering up and down all day, thus rendering the remote play feature useless unless your in the same house which is somewhat pointless.
Now..The PS3 doesn't start by itself from outside influence, it starts from a broadcast from the router itself. You can test this easily by turning your PS3 off with Internet Remote Start enabled, and immediately thereafter yanking the internet connection from your router. The PS3 will still start by itself, even with no internet connection.
The culprit is the ARP table of the router, which is what links the MAC address to the IP address. On most routers, this is a dynamic table which updates by itself every now and then, by sending a broadcast (signal to all machines on a network) asking for a reply from a specific IP address. It goes like this:
BT HOME HUB: Hello, I have an IP address 192.168.0.144 in my system here that reported it had a MAC address of 01:44:23:F4:E5:23. Could the owner of IP address 192.168.0.144 please report the MAC address so I can confirm and update?
PS3: Wohoo, I have 192.168.0.144. My MAC address is 01:44:23:F4:E5:23. Please update your records.
    (30 seconds go by)...
BT HOME HUB: Hello, I have an IP address of 192......... and on it goes. My router checks every 30 seconds, some check every minute, others every hour, 6 hours, etc etc. The problem here is though, that the ARP table update request will turn on the PS3. So mine gets a wakeup-call every 30 seconds.
This is called an ARP broadcast, it is sent from the router (and other machines on the network) to the IP 255.255.255.255, which is received by all devices on the network. The PS3 will only respond to ARP broadcasts from its Default Gateway, meaning only the router can wake it by ARP broadcast, the other machines on the network cannot.
    The Solution:
Allow users to telnet their own home hub or create a firmware update fix.
We've been looking into getting the new BT Infinity, can anyone confirm if the Infinity hub is the same as the HHv2 with all its problems?

Very happy this morning, after over a year of waiting for the remote play feature to work with the home hub and PS3..it looks like BT have added a fix into the Home Hub v2 FIBRE. last night i thought i might as well give the remote play a go as there might be a slim chance of it working AND IT DID! i set the PS3 to remotely start via the internet, powered down and it stayed in standby mode!!
unfortunately this doesn't mean the old hubs work though (although i cannot test this) so ill still be bumping this until there's an official response. Can anyone confirm that the old hubs still don't work for me? we got rid of the old hub when we upgraded.

  • Wrt610N please help ps3 remote play and also nothing sees the 5ghz band

I have finaly hooked everything up last night. I have everyything on mac filter and static IP address. Questions is though I would like to have my laptop  D-link extreme N adapter and my ps3 on the 5ghz band. Can I do this... cause Im looking in the settings and it says  Mixed,, N only, A only.... I thought it could do G also.... PLease explain there...I cant even get my laptop adapt to see the 5ghz band! Weird....  Also Im trying to get my ps3 on the best connection possible.. I would like to also have remote play through the net. Heres my problem... I enable it on the ps3 turn off the system.....and about 1 or 2 minutes  it turns on by itself... IT does this quiete frequently... Again I have a wrt610N dual band wireless router. I thought I read somewhere if you change the broadcast channel it will help with the remote play..so I placed it on channel 11 and also placed the ps3 in the dmz... I am away from my home so I will try more out later...I woudl like to take the ps3 out of dmz if possible... I have unup enabled.  THanks!!

Beside doing DMZ for your PS3, you better Open the Ports for your PS3 on your Linksys Router. TCP Ports: 10070 - 10080, UDP Ports: 50000 ,UDP Ports: 6000-7000, 10070. This will solve your Problem.

  • Does E4200 support Sony Remote play?

I have a Sony Vita , PS3, & Cisco ASA 5505 firewall.  I can get remote play to work only if the PS3 is powered on.  The ASA will kill any Wake-on LAN packet no matter what I do to try to allow it.  Apparently it doesn't support directed broadcast.
Has anyone gotten Remote Play to worth with Wake-on LAN through an E4200 or E4200v2 (not sure which one I need)?
    Thanks

Well, some of the user claims that WOL can be resolved. So here is the link: http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/E4200-Port-forward-to-broadcast-for-WOL/td-p/3720...
So, please follow the steps mentioned in the above link and see it that helps for you…

  • PSP, router, and modem issues with Remote Play

    Background:
    Verizon DSL
    Westell 6100 modem
    WRK54G router
    PS3
    PSP
I haven't seen a post on this topic yet, so I'll explain the issue.  The Playstation 3 is networkable either through a wired ethernet or wireless connection.  The Playstation Portable is also networkable over wifi.  The PSP has always worked at hot spots for web surfing and gaming.  With the release of the PS3, there was a new feature called Remote Play, which let you connect your PSP to your PS3 and stream the PS3 interface.  You can manipulate the options, watch videos and listen to music, just like you are at the controls of the PS3.  The PS3 has to be put in "remote play" mode for this to work.
Last week, Sony released an update that made this functionality work over the internet.  For most people this worked just fine.  Others had to open ports here or there, but there is a group of users that cannot connect from a hot spot, but can connect over the internet at home.  The original remote play connection (before the update) was a direct connection between the PS3 and PSP.  Now you can connect through your router at home (scan for your router and connect that way).  This connection works since the PS3 and PSP are both connected to the same router in your home.  When you go to a hotspot, you can get all the way up to the point that the PS3 streamed screen should start, but it times out.
This is taken directly from the PS3 owner's manual:
"If the PS3 system is connected to the Internet via two or more routers, communication may not work correctly."
It seems like internet connection from a hot spot doesn't work because the request for the PS3 gets lost between two routers when it gets to my home network.
Finally to my question.  It seems like my Westell 6100 is functioning as a router, as is my WRK54G.  When i look at my modem's settings, it is set up as a bridge protocol in routed bridge mode.  Everything else I try makes me lose my internet connection.
Anybody know what I'm talking about or have any suggestions?
    Thanks

A lot of PS3/PSP owners are having this issue with Remote Play. I have a WRT350N and have been through Sony forum as well as this one to know about all setups from port forwarding to giving your PS3 a static IP and placing in DMZ. I can say I had success connected via or public wi-fi but I also noticed how unstable Remote Play is. There will be times you can connect to it but if you turn your PS3 completely off (not standby) and back on you will pretty much need to setup your PSP again with the PS3 for Remote Play. The problem itself lies more with Sony and not our modem and routers except that fact that you do have to make some minor changes like disable UPnP, forward ports and etc. I own the Sony LocationFree Player which uses a similiar function like Remote Play but instead gives you control over your cable tv remotely anywhere on laptop or psp. LocationFree never failed me since day one because Sony created a DDNS for it which worked for me no matter who my carrier was or what router I have used over the years. Remote Play was introduced later for PS3 which pretty much like LocationFree but Sony doesn't provide a DDNS for it, instead we have to go through all the crazy configurations which is never stable. However you can register for a DDNS at DynDNS.org and configure your router with it which I have done before and found it to be very stable. No matter what Sony still needs to address the issue with the PS3 communication for Remote Play. You can find a lot of info here for setting up DDNS and as for Remote Play your better off going to the Playstation Forums. Good Luck!

  • How to play ps3 on mac book ?

Hello, is there any way to play PS3 on my mac book pro (retina display)? I saw some video about how it works on the old mac book pro but I am not too sure if it works on the retina display version MBP. Please give me some advice about it. I do not want to buy a TV for ps3 only.

Not possible because the system has no audio/video input. Only the Alienware M17x and M18x have such capability.

  • Remote Play Connection Issues - WiFi / Bluetooth Conflict / Interference?

I have been looking forward to this feature on my Z3c and it was finally released yesterday. Connecting to my PS4 and using the touch screen controls works flawlessly. However, as soon as I connect my DualShock 4 via Bluetooth, lag and connection issues occur. Turn off Bluetooth, and everything is fine again.
I experienced a simular issue with a Moga Bluetooth controller a few weeks ago - after it was paired with my device, my Wifi connections became intermittant and unstable, even when the device was disconnected. Eventually fixed the issue by deleting the controller pairing from the Bluetooth settings.
My point is, is there an issue with Bluetooth and Wifi conflicting with each other? I have tried changing settings on the router but I am convinced the issue is on my phone. Bluetooth works fine, Wifi is fine, but both together I believe there is an issue.
Does anyone else experience the same problem, or have a fix? I was looking forward to Remote Play with a DS4 but at the moment it is unplayable.

    @pit77
I recommend that you first try it with your existing access point/router. Remote Play also works over 2.4GHz but WiFi performande depends on many factors like the access point, reception, channel width, other networks and devices that transmits on the same band (for example bluetooth devices, baby monitors, micro waves, wireless keyboards). With a 5GHz access point it's less likely to have performance issues as this band usually less crowded.

  • Can I play PS3 games on my MacBook Pro?

Can I play PS3 games on my MacBook Pro? I want to run PS3 games on a MBP. I have Medal of Honor and  that's the only game I like on the PS3. And does anyone know any good shooting games like shadowgun deadzone. Something offline and that's pretty fun. Someone help me pls.

The XBox uses three PowerPC processors that run very very hot and need constant power and Mac's use Intel processors that run very cool in comparison.
It would take a complete rewrite of the entire games code to make it work on a Mac.
So in short, it can't be done. Sorry.
But I'll clue you 2 free 3D games you can run on your MacBook Pro
Cube 2 Suaerbraten and Nexiuz Classic.  That should help get you by.

  • Downgrading a Sony Z3 Tablet Compact tablet SGP612 from lollipop to kitkat for remote play

Hi,I was hoping someone would be able to help me downgrade my Sony Z3 Tablet Compact tablet SGP612 lollipop 5.1.1 to kitkat 4.4.4? It is a UK model. I bought this tablet solely for remote play streaming from the PS4. The streaming worked ok when I first got the tablet but was close to perfect when the 60fps PS4 firmware came out. Then lollipop came out and unfortuantely there has been massive lag with remote play on my tablet since, this includes the latest 5.1.1 lollipop update. I can confirm that I have done a fresh install of 5.1.1 from the PC companion app but there is still noticeable lag in remote play. I also have a decent Asus RT-AC66u router running Merlins firmware and the tablet is connected via 5ghz.
So on 03/08 I decided I've had enough and followed the guide to downgrade to Kitkat at http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/17/guide-to-installing-xperia-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/ but the problem is the kitkat 4.4.4 firmware is no longer in the Xperifirm list of firmwares there are only 2 versions listed which are both lollipop, can someone please advise where I can get the appropriate kitkat firmware? I am not rooted and don't want to be as I would like to keep my DRM keys etc. Thank you for all of your help. Matt

Thommo, Thank you for your quick response and your help. I don't suppose anyone could possibly help with a UK version of the firmware? I am unsure what filename the UK version would be so unfortunately I'm unable to search the web for this.

  • Remote play with Z4 Tablet

Hi there, I've seen a lot of posts like this but still I havent been able to find anyone helping me so I'm trying a new post instead. I've been using Remote Play on my Xperia Z4 tablet playing my PS4 games when I'm out of the house and it sort of works like it should.I get dicsonnected every 5-10 min. and it's really a pain in the butt. I have tried to go WIFI and cable with the console and still the same happens. Router is set for 2.4 Ghz and only thing connected to it while trying to fix this is my PS4 console. And space between console and router is 2 feet.I have no problem connecting to my console using remote but staying connected is a pain. I've googled router settings and changed what i could and again tested both using WIFI and cable and sadly same results. Iven get disconnected a lot when I'm trying at home with both console and tablet and same thing happens as when I'm doing this outside my home.I dont know why but when i turn off the controller it works perfectly which i find wierd. So is it my tablet thats the problem or perhaps controller. I've testet with 3 controllers though and it still acts up

That's quite odd, it could be a router issue.

  • How to disconnect PS4 controller from Xperia remote play?

    Hi!
I connected my dualshock 4 controller yesterday to the Xperia to try out remote play. And now every time I press the ps4 button on the controller it starts up the xperia and not the ps4. This is a problem for me since I only have one controller.
How can I disable the connection between my DS4 and the Xperia?
    Solved!

Have you tried turning off Bluetooth or unpairing the device from Bluetooth options
