Remove Flash CS4 Files
I am trying to reinstall Flash in Creative Suite 3 after trialing CS4. (CS3 Flash had some DLL issues and had to be uninstalled since it wasn't working) I have uninstalled CS4 but when I go to install CS3 I get this error "Please insert Adobe Fireworkd CS4 to continue installation" Now, I did trial fireworks but removed it a while ago, so it appears that there are some remnant files. I ran a CS4 cleaner script from Adobe but it shows that there are no CS4 files that need to be cleaned. Adobe is NO help on this. Any suggestions?
THANKS!
Hi mfmsillie
What operating system are you running windows XP/Vista?
Are there any other Adobe CS3/4 Applications showing in Add/Remove Programs?
You might have to remove these as the common files entries in C:/Program Files might have some left over dll files that are conflicting with the install of CS3.
You could try the windows cleanup utility which can remove any left over files for applications also

Editing Flash CS4 files in Flash CS3
Looking to upgrade our main multimedia production machine from CS3 to CS4, but we probably won't upgrade all the other machines just yet.
Main question: If you work on a Flash file in CS4, can you work on it in CS3 and save it, or will some of the functionality be lost in doing so? Or is a matter of just having to save it in a certain way to make sure it works?
Also, is there any issue with importing CS3 Illustrator, Flash or any other kind of files into After Effects CS4?
Thanks!
Mattcs4 can save files for cs3 so, it "..is a matter of just having to save it in a certain way..".
you could lose some functionality if you used any flash player 10 capabilites that aren't in fp 9. to prevent that you would always publish for fp 9 in your cs4 file to ensure you could use the file in cs3.
i can't see any problems with importing non-flash cs4 files into flash cs3. -
Flash CS4 file won't open in CS5
I have tried Adobe support with this but their response was as helpful as a hole in the head. I am hoping someone here might be able to help or seen this problem before.
I have a fla file which opens, save and compiles perfectly in Flash CS4 but when I open it in CS5 it crashes Flash with the below error report. I have tried this on multiple machines all resulting in the same error message.
I have also tried saving the file in CS4 under a new name, did a compact and save and a magic spell. Neither of which had any effect.
Any help or pointers would be appreciated.
Tom
PS: If anyone from Adobe is reading this... given you are charging a premium for Master Collection here in Australia I would have expected a little bit of help when your software doesn't work as expected. I am sorry, but that's just not good customer service.
Here the first part of the error report if it helps:

Flash CS4 file seems to be corrupt after I open it in CS5.5?
Hey,
I am currently between workspaces as I am using computers at uni which have CS4 and at home I have CS5.5. In order to use my fla files I saved separate copies as CS4 so I can work on them in uni too but now I've progressed and I'm trying to open them in CS5.5 and just hangs everytime I try to open my main fla file. I get a blank dialogue box eventually but if I press okay a blank timeline and stage are all that seems to be contained in the file. Can anyone help me recover my file? I've just been kicked out of uni so I can't go back there! (It closes early on weekends)
thanksTake it back and ask them. No one here can speak for Apple. This is a user forum.

Photoshop CS3, Flash CS4 file for mac
HI there,
I have a series of software we bought but the media that was delivery was for windows, how to get the media for mac? I have the serial codes and everything but i need the media how do i get it?
Thanks,
DenisNo such thing. You can only try this. And just a friendly warning just in case there is a misunderstanding here: If you assume you could just use your Windows serials on Mac, than you are gravely mistaken. Serials are platform specific and your only option would be to upgrade and make the platform switch then.
Mylenium -
Hope i am in the right place for this query.
I am trying to download a trial version of Flash onto my laptop. Windows XP, service pack 3, 1.66 GHz, 2.00 GB Ram.
I downloaded the trial but wrongly asked it to open rather than save, so it saved onto my desktop, but would not then open, it was taking me round in circles between 'the download is complete', then 'install now' it then goes through the extraction procedure but brings me back to install now and wants to extract it again. It appeared to be extracting to the Adobe folder. (I have Photoshop etc)
When I tried to download it again it indicated it was already downloaded. So I removed all Flash CS4 files that I could find (on the basis that if it was not installed this should be safe enough) but it is still indicating that it is downloaded and I cannot go back to the 'do you want to open/save this file'.
I am sure I have made all sorts of mistakes with all this but if anyone can offer any ideas I would be grateful. Thanks.if you really started the installation and it installed halfway through or similar, run the cleanup script which can be found here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406241.html and reinstall CS4 again, this time download it with a different browser if possible.

I downloaded and installed the Flash CS4 demo today to give
it a trial run. It crashed as soon as I attempted to use it. I
attempted again and now have the SBBOD. Oh, and now Flash CS3
crashes too after having installed the upgrade. Naturally bad
timing since I'm working on a Flash project.
I'm on a Mac with OS 10.4.11
[Edited] I found the separate Uninstall File, so I'll remove
Flash CS4 from my system. Hopefully I can get Flash CS3 back and
running.Hi Valerie,
In Flash CS4, we changed how Flash reads fonts from your
machine to be compatible with other Adobe applications. However, it
seems Flash has trouble with corrupt fonts, fonts with missing
glyphs, and fonts with misleading information about their font
types. Flash CS3 was more forgiving.
Anyway, please try the following:
Try creating a new user account on your mac and use Flash
with that user. If Flash works correctly for this new user, it
might be due to a corrupt font. You can use Font Book to scroll
through all of the fonts on your system and look for any that don't
show any preview. Remove all of these fonts and retry using Flash
with your original user account.
Thanks,

How to Make Dreamweaver CS4/Flash CS4 Website Function on all Latest Mobile Devices
Hello!
I am trying to add code into my Dreamweaver CS4 file and/or Flash CS4 file in order to have the website I have created work across all of the latest mobile devices as well as traditional online systems. My flash file has a transparent stage, and my dreamweaver file has a full-screen background image. I have reviewed various tutorials and articles available online, and some advocate simply adding code, which does not seem to be working for me, while others suggest having a similar separate site created solely for mobile devices. If this is the best option, I don't know how that should be set up. What is the best path to take with this?
This is the collection of various pieces of code I have tried adding to my files:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" user-scalable="yes" initial-scale="1.0" /> <!-- iphone,android -->
<meta name="HandheldFriendly" content="true" /> <!-- blackberry -->

stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
//or//
this.stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
this.stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
next_btn.width = 133 * .5;
next_btn.height = 133 * .5;
//flash//

I have tried various combinations of the code listed above, but nothing seems to be working. I am not sure as to the positioning of the code, and maybe that is the problem, or maybe it is because this code in not for CS4, or not appropriate for my project. I also do not know what code should be inside the Flash file, nor what should should be inside the Dreamweaver file.
Thank you in advance for any assistance!Hi
To add to what Gramps has said, Adobe has ceased developing its flash player for ALL mobile devices so do not use Flash for any mobile device.
Depending on the complexity of your Flash program you may be able to recreate it using Edge, but the code generated by Edge does not work in IE8 or below.
For details on Edge, see - http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/edge/

I have tried various combinations of the code listed above, but nothing seems to be working. I am not sure as to the correct positioning of the code, and maybe that is the problem, or maybe it is because this code in not for CS4, or not appropriate for my project. I also do not know what code should be inside the Flash file, nor what should should be inside the Dreamweaver file.
Thank you in advance for any assistance! There is no simple code to add that will display the same on all mobile devices....
you do know that the iProducts (iPhone, iPad, etc) don't display Flash at all, right?
So as a start for "functioning on all latest mobile devices" you should drop any Flash content you have and move on.

Flash cs4 nothing visible in library or stage but can see it in swf
Hi,
I'm not sure what I've done - symbols, graphics, text are visible in swf but not on stage in workspace or in library. I wonder if I've accidentally reset something. I was trying to import an .ai graphic into a flash cs4 file when this first happened - the graphic was not visible in the workspace but could be seen in swf. Now I can't see anything in any flash file I open even ones that have been fine previously. Just blank workspace and blank library window when select symbols in library. If I try to draw something, or insert text, it disappears as soon as I switch to selection tool but is visible if I look at the swf (control enter). Please help - much appreciated!
The project window is just a white blank square in the developer workspace too. Thanks for the advice. But what I didn't make clear was that I can't use Flash at all now because nothing is visible in ANY file I open. The symbol names can be seen in the library but there is no image in the library window and no image visible if I open a symbol from the library. This is true in every single flash file I have. This has all happened since I tried to open the .ai file which had CMYK elements so I thought this was why that graphic was not visible. The problem is that now nothing is visible in ANY .fla file, even ones that worked fine a few days ago. Also projects are not visible in the project window which is just a white blank. If I open a new file and type text in, it is only visible as long as the text tool is selected. If I deselect the text tool, the text disappears. If I draw a rectangle, it is only visible while the rectangle tool is selected. If I deselect the rectangle tool the rectangle I have drawn disappears. However, both text and rectangle are visible in the swf. I thought maybe I had accidentally changed some setting. I have tried pressing Ctrl Alt Shift while opening flash to reset defaults but this didn't make a difference.

can anybody can tell me how to open flash cs4 files in flash cs3.i need it urgently plz help
You cannot open CS4 files with CS3. You'll need to get your friemd to save it as a CS3 file, which CS4 can do.,, each version of Flash can save to the version before it, but any new functionality related to CS4 will be lost.

Ok I know I can set the help system to browse offline however
this doesn't work correctly for any less then ActionScript 3. When
you highlighted a word in the past such as "null" it use to pull up
the word and the info in all the books. Now all I see is a web
browser that doesn't do this for me. I mean who sits there at
adobe's end and thinks up of ways to slow someone down like this??
How can you remove the core help quick linking from the program.
Number 1 not everyone is on AS3 and some of us still have to update
AS2 code.
Bigspace ships has an air application that installed AS3 flex
reference but again useless unless you are on AS3. Has anyone found
another way to get this old school functionality to work on
CS4???Jay Armstrong here. I’m one of the writers who works on
the Flash docs.
Regarding this comment and the many others in other threads
that have added important details about the issues with the help
workflow, and in particular the ActionScript help workflow: We hear
your pain and we are working to implement solutions to these
issues.
I understand that this new help workflow is more painful than
in CS3 when you had the Help right in its own panel in the product.
Here’s some background:
The implementation of Help within the Flash Help panel prior
to CS4 required that *all* the Help files be installed on the local
drive with the product, resulting in some issues that we tried to
address in CS4. Including Help on the installation disc caused
issues including:
- Required that Help be completed much earlier for
localization and end-game testing.
- Resulted in static Help files that had been completed early
in the development cycle, sometimes not accounting for last minute
UI or other changes.
- A long install process.
- Crowded the installation disc.
These aren't meant to be full explanations of why we made the
changes, but just some background as to some of the things we were
thinking about. Clearly the decisions we came to weren't the right
ones for many users. We are intent on making things better.
Moving Help online makes it possible to update Help on an
ongoing basis, allows users to comment on and embellish the Help,
and allows us to add links from the help out to new articles,
tutorials, videos, and code samples on adobe.com and throughout the
Flash web community. One of you rightly pointed out that the Adobe
Updater could have been used for some of this, but I believe that
the updater would have required much more rigorous certification by
us of any update packages and the update/install process for each.
We actually are updating the online help files very frequently, so
this process would have been a major barrier to these updates.
We’ve had a struggle about how to deliver the Flash
Help for a long time, as we have a lot of users who have been quite
vocal about not liking the Help panel consuming space within the
Flash window as well as users who really want it there so they
don’t have to leave the IDE.
Having said all that, I still totally understand what
you’re saying about losing your code, glance, code, glance,
code workflow. As you probably know, we’ve been getting a lot
of feedback about this, along with other issues that online Help
has caused. We are actively looking at ways of solving these, but
the Help-in-a-browser issue a difficult problem, as this aspect of
the Help implementation is baked fairly deep into the CS4 product.
Since CS4 shipped, we have implemented solutions to some of the
issues with Help raised by users, such as allowing you to select
the default destination of F1 (though Flash CS4 always went to the
actual Help system rather than the Flash Help and Support page,
which is what these users wanted in other products). I just
don’t know if there will be a solution in the CS4 time frame
for viewing Help within Flash itself. As noted in this thread,
there are a few independent developers working on non-browser help
viewers, such as Jamie Kosoy, Technical Director at Big Spaceship,
whose AIR application for the CS4 Language Reference docs is
available at
http://labs.bigspaceship.com/2008/12/09/air-app-as3-language-reference/.
We knew that people use the AS3 Language Reference a lot, so
we did install a local, abridged version of that with the product.
You only see it when not connected to the internet or if you
disable online connections as described earlier in this thread, and
it still opens in a web browser and still has the same navigation
interface as the online version. You can also download a local copy
of the AS Reference, which does get updated periodically and can be
viewed locally regardless of the state of your internet connection,
but it also is all html and opens in a web browser. As previously
noted, the download is available here:
http://help.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flash/10/ActionScript3LangRef.zip.
I know this thread started off with AS2 concerns, and we hear
those too.
In some of the other threads out there about the Help, people
have raised issues about the contents navigation in the CS4 version
of the ASLR as well. We are listening to all these issues and
actively working on solutions that will address these questions.
We’d really like to give you better control over whether you
see online or local content, whether you see it inside the IDE or
in a separate application, etc.
I know that you are all really frustrated at some of these
help changes, and so I want to say how much we appreciate your
feedback. I’m sorry that my reply doesn’t give you the
magic bullet that you are understandably hoping for.

Flash CS5 can't save CS4 files
I keep a copy of CS3 around just so I can be productive... CS4 takes 10 to 20 seconds between timeline edits for the screen to un-freeze.
I had hoped CS5 would resolve this because I would like to and need to use the Flash Player 10 classes... But NO!, it is completely useless in a production environment because you can't even save your work without jumping through hoops!!! I work with aproximatly 20 designers and we have thousands of CS3 files that get updated in over 40 live sites. This product is not ready and it is very disappointing that Adobe would release it like this. The only way I can save any of these files is to save as a CS4.
See other posts:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/642378?tstart=0Hi Greg,
Thanks for emailing me your FLA file so we could investigate. It looks like one of your assets is corrupted. This file crashes even in Flash CS4 when I drag sparks.jpg to the stage.
Flash CS5 crashes more quickly because it tries to validate this asset on save but can't because that asset is corrupted. If you remove sparks.jpg from the library, you can save the file in Flash CS5.
Thanks,

Why export to EPS was removed from Flash CS4?
Hello.
I just installed evaluation of Flash CS4. I am confused that EPS support was removed. I need illustrations in EPS, because I use LaTeX.
It there workarounds to get an EPS file from a FLA file?I am having an Identical issue. The help files show an ability to export to EPS 3.0, but there is absolutely no way to do this in Flash CS4 that I can see. For now, I downloaded the trial of illustrator to use as a work around. Interestingly, you have to export from flash as an *.ai file, open it in illustrator, and THEN save as EPS from illustrator. WWWW TTTTT FFFFF. Is adobe deteriorating? I can't even copy from flash and paste into Illustrator.
Perhaps adobe has some kind of explanation - but I doubt it. -
Flash CS4 can't open .fla files or lose files/graphics
I installed Flash CS4 Professional trial version for school use. It wouldn't install successfully. I deleted the font files the troubleshooting guide said to, tried again, but gave up. (I'm afraid to run regedit and mess up everything else I have loaded.) (I previously had the Fireworks CS4 trial version loaded, then uninstalled it.) My problem is this- I have it running, but it saves files and then they can't be opened, even if I use the save function often- it's worse when I create the file, test the movie and then save. If I try to open it again, it says "cannot open file." Once it opened a copy I had saved, and it appeared blank, even though it was 544 kb file size. I only need it for a few more days, one more assignment and I'm afraid my previous files are corrupt. I have Windows Vista Home Edition. I'm tired of redoing files! If CS4 is unstable like this, I don't want to buy it! Fireworks didn't have good help menus like Flash does, but at least it ran well; or do I still have files that didn't uninstall from Fireworks causing trouble? Anyone?
con calmaI tried it- no good. When I reinstalled it, I got a fatal error 1603, with the color common set rgb uninstall color profiles rollback. I deleted the color files again, and tried to run regedit, but the last item Adobe advises to do in troubleshooting I didn't see as an option in Regedit in my Vista, so I let it go. I will uninstall and reinstall once more. I ran checkdisk- ok, and malware remover, so no problem there. Vista won't let me run backups, but I did export my regedit files, so here goes nothing- last resort; I can't open my Flash files or they're corrupt still. I tried calling Adobe, but the phone doesn't recognize the number I punch in for which support I need- the message keeps looping.
