Removing files from iTunes folder that are no longer in library

Hi all,
Quick question that I require help answering.
I'm trying to tidy up my iTunes library/ Physical storage.
I currently have 1600 songs within iTunes, but through bad management in the past I actually have (I know this after reimporting the library to another machine as a test) 1700 songs within the physical iTunes Folder structure. What I need in order to slipstream my storage is to remove those extra 100 songs lying about in my physical folder without losing the 1600 currently in use and present in iTunes.
Does anyone have an easy way of removing the extra files?
Thanking in advance,
Steve

Use File > Add folder to library... and select your iTunes Media folder. Anthing already in the library will be ignored, anything else will be added. Once the process is complete sort the library on the Date Added column and remove the tracks that have just been added, sending them to the recycle bin.

I am viewing your question from different perspective, that is, the issue that you face when you are ripping VOBs from a second DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc using Premiere Elements,
It is best to give the Premiere Elements version and computer operating system that it is running on. In the absence of that, I will generalize.
    Assuming that you are using
    Premiere Elements 12
    Add Media
    "DVD Camera or Computer Drive"
    Video Importer
Typically the Video Importer Save In: is C:\Users\Owner\Videos
Each of your DVD discs is going to have the same names for the ripped VOBs (VTS_01_1.VOB and so on depending on the duration of the movie). Consequently, after the ripping of the first DVD's VOBs and their save to Videos, you will end up with that "files already existing..." block for the ripping of the VOBs from the second DVD.
The answer is, for each DVD disc VOB ripping, to plan ahead and create and set for different folders in Videos in the Save In field of the Video Importer.
Please review and then let us know if that works for you. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything that I have written.
    Thank you.

  • Filtering files in a folder that are in sub folders

Is there a way to show only the files in a folder that are not contained in sub folders?
    Thanks,
    Braden

Not in Lightroom. The simplest way is to browse the top level folder in Explorer or Finder.

If you are seeing a cloud icon, they are not actually on your device, just available to download. If you wish to turn this off: Settings app >  Videos > Show All Videos [turn OFF]. This is also available in for the Music and iBooks apps.

  • ITunes still lists books that are no longer in library or device

    Hi everyone,
Been searching around the internet and on this forum for a solution but have no luck so far. Hopefully I can get some better results by posting this.
    Summary of the problem:
My iTunes still shows some old PDFs that are no longer existing in the library. These missing books are listed in the Books section of my iPad (when its connected to the iTunes library). When I connect my iPad to iTunes 12, I can see 2 sections on the left-hand panel - one with the heading "Settings" and another section with the heading "On My Device". Both these sections have a "Books" sub-section under them. The missing books are listed in the "Books" sub-section under the "Settings" section- where I can select the books to sync to the iPad. See picture below:
These are PDFs and books that I used to have but when I moved my library at some point in time earlier, they were not moved together. But they are still listed here and I can't find a way to remove them.
I look forward to any help I can get on this issue.
    Thank you!

  • HELP!!! Can I get back files from a folder that has been copied over?

I had a file in the trash with the same name as a file on my desktop. I accidentally started copying it from the trash to my desktop. It erased some of the files I had on my desktop in that folder that were very important, before I could stop it from copying. Is there any way to get the files back? They had been on my desktop for a few months. I'm thinking that maybe they are stored somewhere on the computer. I tried a search but came up with nothing. I usually back up to a external hard drive but I didn't this time and I'm paying for it now!

When a file is erased, the space on the drive that the data occupies is not necessarily erased. It is just unallocated, so that other new data can use it. However, until that new data overwrites that same physical space on the drive, your old data may still be recoverable.
To do this, you need to use a data recovery tool. There are tools that specialize in data recovery, such as
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
and other tools have a have multiple functions, including data recovery
    http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=202&Itemid=107
If you want to try recovering the data using such a tool, you should stop using the Mac (or use it as little as possible). Any use of the Mac will make it more likely that the space occupied by the old data will be overwritten. If that happens, the portion that is overwritten will not be recoverable.
This is a good example of when Time Machine (part of Leopard and Snow Leopard) would be extremely helpful. It does backups to an external drive automatically, in the background, once per hour that the Mac is active. You just set it up and then forget about it. You can get any file back that you accidentally erase, even an older version of it.

  • Remove files from iTunes, but leave them on iPod?

I have an 80GB iPod, but only 70GB on my computer harddrive. I want to remove some movies from iTunes to make space on my computer, yet leave those movies on the iPod. Is that possible? If so, how do I do that?
    Thanks

You can if you turn off automatic synchronization. Connect your iPod and go to the iPod Options and select the "Manually manage" option. It will then not automatically remove the items from the iPod if you delete them from iTunes. You'll have to drag songs and videos from your library or playlist to iPod in the Source list to add new tracks.
Note that it's not a good idea to depend solely on your iPod to have your only copy of items that you've purchased from the iTunes Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace. I strongly recommend that you make a backup copy of such material (on CD, DVD, or an external hard drive) before you delete it from iTunes.

  • Transfering files from old MacMook that can no longer draw power to a new MacBook Pro

I have an old MacMook that can no longer draw power. I want to transfer the files from the old, broken MacBook harddrive to a new MacBook Pro that I just bought. I was curious how to do that since the old MacBook cannot use power.

Get an exterior enclosure & put the hard drive from your old Mac into it & they attach to your new computer.

  • HT4910 how do you remove pics from my ipad that are not in camera roll?

I have a couple thousand pics on my ipad that I put on from my laptop a long time ago. they are not on the camera roll. I can delete those but can't figure out haw to remove the rest. I updated I tunes and can't find were it shows the files on my device. can anyone help?

If you want to remove all of your synced photos .....
Connect your iPad to your computer and launch iTunes.
Select your iPad under the devices tab in the upper right or in the left sidebar, if you have the sidebar enabled.
Click on Photos at the top of the iTunes window on the right.
Uncheck the "Sync Photos From" heading
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
IF that doesn't work, create an empty folder on your desktop and call it "Empty Folder". Select that folder in the "Sync Photos From" heading in the photos tab of iTunes and then click on Apply. That will also remove all synced photos.

  • I need Help!!! Need to remove file from my project that I can't find

I'm on an extremely tight deadline and am trying to make a test DVD to show to client and am getting a strange message that takes me to a dead-end.
When I try to export using Quicktime Conversion, I get a message saying:
"The movie file "...FIN-00000075" cannot be found. Without this file the movie cannot play properly."
My options are Search or Cancel. Search takes me to my documents folder, where there is no sign of this file. When I use Spotlight to search for it, it finds it and opens it, and it is a window for Final Cut Express, which I haven't used in a couple of years and not at all on this project, since I upgraded to FCP.
Spotlight does not give me information about where the file is.
I really need to get this burned to DVD ASAP.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    J.

Hi Jim - I used to get this (weird render file prompt) as well back on fcp 4.5.
It would only occur when I opened one particular project.
However, afterward it would reoccur on opening any project. Weird, weird, weird ...
The only way I found to kill the prompt was to trash prefs - it wouldn't reoccur until I opened the problem project again.
Never could track it down - fcp Rescue was used often back then.

  • Charges from itunes store that are not mine

WARNING to all you itunes  users out there!! . I woke up this morning to several fraudulent charges charged to me by itunes All were in Chinese!!! Trying to resolve these, I discovered the ONLY way to contact itunes is via email----- and it appears that  itunes has no FRAUD division,  It looks like the only way to fight fraudulent charges is through your credit card, paypal or whatever form of paymeent you use. It is amazing to me what suckers we are, In order to use an iphone, ipod or ipad, apple requires us to have an itunes account . they willingly take our money for purchases but have absolutely no viable support system in place for us if things go wrong. Surely, apple is doing well enough financially to afford us a liittle support!!  Please let me know if I am wrong and if there is a fraud division for iuines that has a phone number I can call! Thsi may noyt be big to itines buit it is to me!! I am a single mom and  now have no money in my bank account which means no gas to get ny kids to school ., etc, etc thanks!!

You credit card company would handle any reimbursement.

  • Time Machine: Can I access files from a PC that are on my external drive?

If my iMac were to crash or die, I cannot afford to get it fixed or buy a new iMac, and the only computer I can then use is a PC, could I connect it to the external hard drive Time Machine had backed up to and access files, photos and music? Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Ok, thanks. Yikes, that is extremely limiting. I guess I need to buy a separate external hard drive to backup important stuff in a way accessible from other computers like a PC. What about accessing files and photos from the current Time Machine hard drive from another Mac, say a friends, where I am not restoring everything to the Mac?
