Removing G5 2.7 motherboard

I need to replace the motherboard on the G5 Dual 2.7. Do I need any special tools?, I have some experience with macs so am not worried about the job, I'm just wonderingt if there is a specific tool I may need before I start.

I think I remember reading that you also need some kind of wrench
From de book:
The only tools required for this procedure are a long-handled Phillips screwdriver, a short- handled Phillips screwdriver, and a hex wrench.

  • DV9026us Motherboard Upgrade?

My laptop motherboard went out just after the warranty expired. At the time I had 2 laptops so I just shelved it until now. Instead of just buying a replacement motherboard I was wondering if any other models were combatable. I really was just hoping to get more then 2gb max RAM that this one had, but would be pleased if that meant just a little more CPU and better graphics card. Am I out of luck or can you wise HP Guru's point me in the right direction.
    Thanks in Advance!

Unlike the Desktop computers, Notebook computers have a more sophisticated and complicated design. It is not very difficult to find a motherboard with a better specification; however, it is very difficult to find a motherboard with the same form-factor that would actually fit into the HP dv series Notebook that you own. So it is always better to get the motherboard replaced rather than trying to upgrade it.
However, if you would really like to install a better motherboard in this computer, then you will need to remove the factory installed motherboard from this unit and take it along with you while placing the order for new one. This way you can compare the form-factor of the factory shipped motherboard with the new one that you are trying to purchase… This is just a suggestion…

  • 24 pin motherboard connector.

I try to remove the 24 pin motherboard connector to change the power supply but it doent come out. I press the button on the side and try to remove it but it still doesnt come out. Should I use force or will it break the connector?

    Hi StargazerUSA,
Are you sure the problem is the motherboard? It could be the powersupply or the connection from the power button to the MB. I don't think you'll find specs for changing the motherboard pin connectors.
This PC is about 5 years old, so it's going to be hard to find replacement parts if something else happens. It would probably be easier and less expensive to get a new PC.

  • Removing the Graphics card on a HP Pavillion 590-319na?

I'am try to remove the graphic card and replace it with a new but i can't figure how to remove it from the motherboard its a NVIDIA GeForce GT 705.

According to a user I found on another forum most pci 'locks' are plastic see-saws, you press down, as in the top of your case to the floor down(when standing installed in case). That tips the leg up out of the way of the hook on the pcb. (inside the slot)
Alternately, here is a youtube tutorial on how to do it with a different kind of lock.

  • "Memory  Sizing" error on Sun Fire V65x

    Hello.
I have some trouble with my old Sun Fire V65x and i hope that you guys can help me out.
    I had 2,5GB RAM installed in my server, working flawless. 2 x 256MB and 2 x 1GB modules. 256-modules in Bank 1 and 1GB´s in Bank 2.
To get rid of the boot up warning of wrong memory configuration i moved the 2 1GB modules to bank 3 (as stated in the manual) but that was when the problem started.
In this configuration the server won't go to POST, i tried moving the 1GB modules around between bank 1, 2 & 3 without any result.
The server will not go to POST. No beeps, no nothing. When turning the server on line it starts up, the fans starts running on at maximum speed and that's all, no picture and no POST and the system warning LED turns to red. After a couple of minutes in this state the fans slow down for a couple of seconds and then back to 100% (repeating cycle)
The POST diagnostics LEDs at the back of the main board indicates POST code 13h, "Memory sizing". The main board does not report any defective DIMMs, also worth mentioning is that the 2 256MB DIMMs are working flawlessly in all banks.
    I have tried:
Resetting the memory config in BIOS (using the 2x256 DIMMs and then installing the 2 1GB modules.
Moving the memory modules around between different banks, both alone and with the 2 256MB DIMMs present.
    Clearing the CMOS settings.
Searching manuals and Google for hours without answer to my problem or what "memory sizing " means in this situation.
    System:
    Sun Fire V65x
    1 CPU
If anyone know the answer to my dilemma and are willing to help me, i would be really grateful.
Sadly i do not have the possibility to test the memory modules in another system.
    Best regards. Erik Järlestrand, Sweden.

Hardware. A reboot will probably not do anything. From what I can tell, it's a CPU cache problem. If you do anything, shut the system down completely, turn the power off for a minimum of 20 seconds to let any residual electricty go away, the turn it back on. If the problem returns, you'll most likely need to either get a new CPU module or a new V100. I don't know if the CPU can be removed from the V100 motherboard, but since there are jumper settings for the speed I would assume that you can.

  • K8T Master2-Far Will not POST unless CMOS is freshly cleared!

Hey all, thanks for helping out.
I came back to my computer one day to find it in a coma. The system was on, but the screen was getting no signal and would not come on by moving the mouse/keyboard like usual. I thought that maybe it had turned off the monitor for power save and then frooze some how. After restarting the computer I found that it was still doing the same thing. I shut down the system and unpluged. After waiting about 5 min i plugged back in and flipped the switch on the powersupply. This started the computer right up (even though i had not pushed th power button) and left it in the same condition as before. It simply would not post. After closer inspection I found that it was not posting because it wasn't getting far enough in the process before it was being restarted. I checked the restart button and even went as far as removing it from the motherboard. This did not help. I knew it was restarting because i could see it checking the optical drives then waiting for about 4 seconds, then a weird noise from the speakers (like a soft cruching so to speak) would happen, then it would do this all over again, non stop. That noise was familliar though, it was the normal noise that I hear when I push the restart button (I'm guessing a release of electricity etc..) so I knew what was going on.
After switching the memory out and in all orders, I stripped the system down to the bare min. This however did not change anything. I put the system back together and flashed the cmos. This made the system restart once, then "BEEP" it posted. It said CMOS Checksome Error - Defaults Loaded. I first pushed DEL to get into the bios. I changed everything back to how its suppost to be (time, apature, etc...) then saved and exited. This made the system go back into its restarting state. I then flashed the cmos again and pushed F1 to continue. The system booted up just fine. In safemode of course. Then i restarted. It then went back into its restarting state. I flashed the bios again. And after pushing F1 to continue selected it to go into windows normally. Everytime it does this it gets different results. One time it got past the windows xp loading screen and sat at the black screen before you get your curser and welcome screen (sigh... restart... flash..). It also once got in just fine, and after about 5 min got a blue screen about "bad pool caller". It most the time however gets a random blue screen right after you see the welcome screen. These blue screens consist of "bad pool caller", "IRQ Equal or Lesser Value", or No notes, just generic blue screen.
If i change anything in my bios it will not post. If i dont flash the cmos, it will not post. If i dont change anything in bios and continue, then restart, it will not post. The only way for it to post and for me to see anything on the screen is to flash the cmos. I thought it might be the power supply, but the only extra i have does not have the extra plug to power the 2nd cpu. After thinking about it though. I dont know if it could be a power supply issue, if it was then would it even load up into safe mode? Or why would it not load up into safe mode again after restarting. I have tried an extra stick of memory that i know works in a separate computer, but nothing changed. I have tried a different videocard... nothing changed. I have removed everthing accept the basics (motherboard, cpu's,videocard, memory, psu) and nothing changed.
I have worked on this for about 1 week now and can not figure it out. I have my useless MCSE/CSE/A+ certifications (I say useless because I dont have a job that uses them) but this one is beyond me. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Brandon
P.S. I dont know if this is related, but I did have to change from useing the DVI connection to RGB plug to even see anything once I heard it post. I was useing DVI before, and once i figured out that it would post after flashing cmos, I had to change to RGB to get any visual. The DVI will not work now at all. I have even tried changing cords. The DVI wont work in safemode either. Thanks

I reckon these mobos have a fault that really needs to be sorted.  You say that your PC was working fine using PC 3200 memory with 240's. I have a similliar problem, I am using 246's with Kingston' PC3200 KVR333X72RC25/512D 2.5 ECC REG.  The PC worked fine for about two weeks and then one day went on a blink, every time I power it up all I get is beeps.  I was forced to order new BIOS, which didn't work everything else has been tested and works fine.
So I ordered micron memory 2X512 PC 2100 266 ECC REG which I was told by the supplier that it was compartible, that didn't work either.  I then went on to check the battery, to my surprise the battery was low so I thought I had nailed it, went out bought a new battery but the problem still exits.  I must say though after installing the micron memory it did boot up but when I went into BIOS to change settings to boot fro CDROM  the damn thing would not restart I had to switch it off using the power button to restart it and when it restarted all i got was beeps.  After that to  get it to bootup I have to reset CMOS using the jumper and when it boots up it gives a checksum error message.  I have a choice of two at this stage
    (1) To Press F1
    (2) To Press delete o go into BIOS setup
The F1 option takes me as far as the windows log on screen and that's it cuts off as if it is gonna boot itself backup but just hangs there.
The Delete option takes into BIOS which when exited the PC does nothing until powered down and powered up again, from here I have to reset CMOS to get it to bootup.
I have been told that the  kingston memory is not compatible but my question is how did it work the first two weeks?
Good ol' Bas have helped out on this one quite often but here I am three months on still in a struggle.  I thought of RMAing the board but it would cost me about 160 pounds and with that kind of money I could pick up another boad from kompllete.com and remain with some change for a couple of buds.
"To bass You said in the last post that the poblem could be the power supply changed it but that has not solved my problem"

  • Z77A-GD65 Problems with Ethernet (Intel 82579V) Code 10 and 55 error

it is just a day with disaster. I bought Z77A-GD65 yesterday, and now it almost driver me crazy , i have two most famous problem of the board ,the CODE10 and ERROR 55!!!
after i bought this board to home ,i spend few hour to figure out the reason why the system can not be booted.
the DIMM SLOT 3&4 of my board is malfunction,no matter what combination i use (1&3,2&3, 3&4...etc),but it works for 1 and 2(i have 4 ram sticks, all of them is fine)
i do upgrade to BIOS 10.5(thx god ,i have two computer ,otherwise i cant even do it because of following issue)
after i solve the problem by only plug in 2 ram (DIMM1&2), succeed to boot up, a new problem occurred to me ,the CODE10!
latest driver , clean system install ,cmos cleaned, does not help.
i have read this thread for code10
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158591.msg1167303#msg1167303
    and  for error55
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=158224.0
it seems the best way to solve it is RMA.
I notice that there is an Authorized Motherboard Repair Center (East Coast):
    361 Alden Road
    Markham, Ontario, L3R 3L
i live in Toronto, can i just go there and give the board to them  to fix it or i can only mail it?
If i need to mail it ,what should i do?

Code 10 means the device cannot start. You have the right driver for the Intel 82579V is shorted by either a motherboard screw or a raiser under it. The ethernet adapter has lights which light up id driver is installed (even though code 10 is in effect).
Solution: Remove 1 or 2 motherboard screws and turn the pc on. Repeat until you find out which screw caused the issue. For me it was the screw closest to the ethernet controller.
The wa i fixed it was I was used a plastic washer and I was still able to have the motherboard screw in and at the same time not get code 10 anymore and my Intel 82579V worked fine since.

  • Does HP Pavilion p7-1154 support AMD Dual Graphics?

I have a Pavilion p7-1154 - Serial no.{Removed for privacy} - The motherboard is an AAHD3-HB (stock MB) made by Pegatron. I have upgraded the stock RAM from 6 GB of 1333 to 16 GB of Corsair Vengence 1600 and upgraded the processor from an AMD A6 3600 to an AMD A8 3850, all according to the upgrade guide for this machine from HP. I've also upgraded the PSU from the stock 300w to a Corsair 500w 80Plus Bronze certified PSU.
Now that's what I'done so far - what I want to know is does the MB (AAHD3-HB) support AMD Dual Graphics, using the suggested graphics cards, I would like to use a Radeon 6670 GPU.

Mike, after consulting with other members, I believe that dual graphis is not available since it is not noted in the specs.
However, here is a Youtube video about the CPU.  If you do find that you were able to use it by a BIOS change, please share that information with the forum.  Thanks!

  • K8n Neo .. lan died

    HI Folks
I had been using the onboard lan since I built this machine. in the middle of a download it doied and never came back.
it lost it's IP but still reported that it was connected. the 100mb router reported that it was hooked up but I couldn;t ping across it. replaced the cable same thing and also it would not pull an IP from the router. Installed an old nic I had and have mu connection back but I wondering if the onboard lan has really failed and if it's worth RMA'ing the board because of it?

You might be able to get the onboard NIC working correctly removing standby voltage from motherboard .
(Shutdown from windows and remove AC from the PSU a couple of minutes)
Also set the NIC to not go into standby by removing the tick in powermanagement .

  • N250GTS Issue?

I am having a problem with a N250GTS Twin Frozr 1G Graphics card, that I have not found a resolution for, so I appreciate any help or guidance anyone can offer.
I have a year old Acer 5621 Desktop with Intel Q9300 Core 2 Quad processor, 8G DDR2 RAM, 2X640 WD Drives, Vista 64... etc.  I also run a 23" LG monitor and a 19" LG monitor off this machine.
The original GeForce 9800GT went poof a few months after warranty expired (or course).
I purchased the MSI N250GTS Twin Frozr 1G Graphics card from Newegg,  as it seemed to fit my budget and also seemed to be a better built upgrade (with 2 fans) than my previous card supplied by Acer.
Install went well, worked fine for a few weeks.  But a week or so ago, I started having problems.  When I turn the computer on, the 'on' light on the switch turns on, the fans starts up, then two seconds later, it turns off,  nothing appears on the screen.  I try this multiple times, up to 20, and finally the computer turns on, boots up and everything works fine.  Play WoW, no problems.  Even rebooting has no issues.  Only when I leave it off for a hour or so, the problem returns.
I have reseated the graphics card multiple times, unplugged and replugged every wire I can find, cleaned the drivers and reinstalled them, removed the battery from motherboard to reset, then upgraded the MB bios to latest one (only a few moths difference between versions) and still the problem continues.
If anyone has any suggestions as to what I am missing besides the graphics card having some issue, I would much appreciate it!

I purchased and installed the Corsair TX650W from Newegg as suggested, it is a very nice power supply.  I am sure it will serve me well.  Unfortunately, it did not fix my problem.
Typically speaking, if a new device is installed, and it causes a problem... the new device can be assumed to be the problem.  I have triple checked the cables and plugs inside the case, checked the switches and the wire routings.  So I thought I would try something different.  I discovered an interesting problem:
As mentioned above, I have 8 gigs of RAM.  When I remove one strip of 2 gigs, the computer starts up fine.  It does not matter which strip I remove or which slot it is in.  6 gigs and my computer starts fine, 8 gigs and the computer will not post until repeated attempts are tried, when cold.
Once I got the computer running with 8 gigs installed, I ran Memtest for an hour on all 4 strips, all ok.  I do not believe the RAM itself to be a problem.  I have installed the latest BIOS offered by Acer for this OEM motherboard.  I am guessing that the motherboard is sensing the gig of RAM on the Video card as physical memory, causing the motherboard to become unstable, when cold.
I have been through the bios settings multiple times, looking for a setting that might fix this problem.  I am hoping someone here can offer some direction is this matter.
My searches on this subject have not produced a 'fix' other than replacing the motherboard, which I'd rather not do at this time.

  • Can the hp compaq 6735s charging port be repaired

    hi all
please i need a hardware specialist who is conversant to the HP compaq 6735s AMD sempron 1gig ram notebook
to help me on this one
    my laptop recently stopped charging
it will only blink several times when you try to put it on
i tried a working ac adapter from another laptop of same model
but it still did not work.
then i charged the battery with a laptop of same model and inserted back to my laptop
and the laptop powered on but still cannot be charged through the charging port
i was told the charging port is bad.
please is it possible to change the charging port of the hp compaq 6735s without changing the entire motherboard
or do i have to buy another motherboard entirely cos someone said it is not possible...
thanks i really appreciate all your help

It is possible but requires fine soldering and removing (not replacing) the motherboard. You remove the old power jack module and solder a new one in place. There are many shops on the internet that will do the job for $100-150US. Post back if you want more help.

  • SLI Switch card and ATI X800XL in X8 mode?!?

Hi. I've got an MSI K8N-SLI platinum, and a Club 3D Radeon X800XL card. The system runs fine, but something seens to be wrong!
When i unpacked the motherboard, i took a look at the SLI switch card, and removed it from the motherboard, and put it on again quickly. But seems like it won't fit right into it's slot, becase i can't cloase the latch again, and i can see about 70% of the gold finders on the size that's plugged in.
In the manual and on all other fotos, the gold fingers are hidden in the slot, and there seems to be a plenty of space between the other side of the switch card and the 2nd PCIe slot. On my motherboard, it looks like this:
    http://memos.dk/sbn/sli-switch.jpg
When i first powered up the system, i was unable to boot, getting a DRAM init-error, but it didn't help changing the DIMMs. I tried to work a little with the SLI switch card again, and it booted! But something is wrong:
My POST screen says "PCIE VGA Link Width : X 8" as you can see here http://memos.dk/sbn/bios-x8.jpg
As you can see on the 1st picture, the card is inserted with the Non-SLI side into the slot, so it should be X16!!!
What is wrong? Are there any secret ways of making the SLI switch card fit into the slot or what? It's kinda driving me nuts, to see the X8 message in POST every time i boot my system!!!
Iv'e also used CPU-z, with the same result: http://memos.dk/sbn/pciex8.PNG
    Please help me!

Hey, Thanks for posting your solution to this problem.  I also had the similar experience and was really thinking about RMAing this board b/c I thought my PCIe speed was stuck at 8x.  I also didn't know that the card could go much further in with some force.  My latch is so loose now after having to force the latch to turn because I didn't have the SLI card in all the way.  Hopefully MSI can give me a replacement latch.  I have to agree, MSI should've thought of a better design.
I left the latch /clip off my board because it kept popping out. I managed to get SLI mode working with the selector card still sitting at an angle. As long as you push the card far enough into the slot it seems to work. I dont even have to have it sitting parallel with the mobo. Maybe Im just lucky.

  • IDE/ATA + DMA + Resets

    Hi,
I used to have problem with my Intel workstation when I was running Solaris 8 with ata-dma enabled. The problems disapeared after I upgraded to Solaris 9.
I've been using Solaris 10 b72 for about a month and the problems have came back on the same hardware.

The system is using a AMI bios and the motherboard chipset is VIA KT133.
The system consists of 3 Seagate disks, they are properly jumpered as master+slave + master. I've set up the BIOS to auto-detect the disks.
Could anyone confirm it this is a bug or if Sun has removed support for my motherboard chipset... or any pointers that could assist me in getting my system functional again.
    Many thanks,
    Martin Andersson

As far as I can see the difference between those drives is slim 12.5mm or ultra slim 9.5mm height. (Are you sure there not Hitachi?) I'm 95% sure the TiBooks will take the 12.5mm drives.I recommend looking in Apple System Profile to see exactly what model you currently have installed and then find one with the same dimensions.

Hi, I´ve added two Nexus 7004 chassis (SUP2) to PI2.0, but they`re shown as unsupported devices. I´ve checked the supported device list and in fact there is no support for the 7004 chassis, but all the other chassis (7009, 7010, 7018) are on the list

Recently noticed that while in the background, BridgeCS4 uses quite a bit of resources: Processor usage between 110-150% on a Dual G5. At first I thought it might be building previews or something like that, but it looks like it's doing the same when

Ok. I've given in. I'll buy a iMac, sleep with a LISA, go to a one-button mouse, get a Classic Mac tattoo, run ClarisWorks, run Tiger, move my trashcans in my house to the lower left corner of every room. ANYTHING. To get my stuff listed. I have trie
