Renaming image files & years question

hello
how do i change the name of image files? i know how to change the title, but can i change the actual name of the file?
when i transferred my photos from a previous computer, iPhoto sorted them into years. how does iPhoto sort them...is it by date created, modified, etc? can i manipulate iPhoto to put photos in a certain year?
Thanks!

pogi6247
Do you want to change the name so that the file is easier to find?
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Moving and renaming image files

    I want to move & rename image files to folders on the hard drive by dragging and dropping them into my application. I read about the problem with renameTo() method with windows. Is this possible to do in java? I heard about a method in which you read,write and delete the old file? How do I go about making this happen?

    Well, what happens if you create the folder C:/Test/testfile1.txt ?
    Or alternatively remove the part that says "testfile1.txt" from the directory path in your program.
    Or alternatively call dir.mkdirs() before trying to rename.
    What I am getting at is that when you create a file with the constructornew File(dir,newdest.getName())the parameter dir is treated as a directory no matter what its name is. If its name is "C:/Test/testfile1.txt," the name of the new file will be "C:/Test/testfile1.txt/name_of_newdest"where name_of_newdest is the name of the "newdest" file. This might not be what you wanted

  • Renaming image files

    I'm using iWeb 1.1.2 If I click on the metrics tab under "Inspector", it will list the name of any image file I select. Is there any way to change the name of an image file without removing it from iWeb, changing it, then re-inserting it into iWeb?
    Some of my image file names consist of several words and a date. I need to shorten names and eliminate spaces between words or numerals.
    Help would be appreciated.

    Hello Old Toad,
    The images are interspersed with text on regular webpages, not in albums or anything fancy.
    Yes, I tried changing names in the Domain files, but that just confused the index.html file, ruining the webpage.
    The URL is bear-viewing-in-alaska.info.
    That site is hosted by Yahoo. My iWeb site was created through iMac and then transferred automatically to Mobile Me.
    Since search engines have great difficulty finding that content, I have been trying to transfer my pages from Mobile Me to Yahoo. But Yahoo cannot read file names that contain spaces or "&" signs, which some of my photos have. So I have been trying to rename the image files.
    Put differently, I'm trying to get all of my pages into a single website (rather than 2 inter-linked websites), if not with Yahoo than with some other host that is search-engine-friendly. I initially tried shifting to RAGE, but they were just starting up as a host and did not seem to have their act together yet.
    Given my desire to switch hosts, I have not paid Mobile Me for another year; so the webpages I created on iWeb cannot be viewed there. However, I've managed to transfer a few files to the Yahoo website. You will find them by clicking on "Senior Staff" near the upper right of the homepage, then clicking on "Author." That will lead to a series of images of artwork I've created.
    Look forward to your insights.

  • Premiere Elements 7: image file import question

    New question; I would check this out for myself but Adobe seems to have made it impossible for me to get a trial version.  It claims my Firefox has cookies disabled, which is false, and I have gone through every troubleshooting step on multiple sites, and gone beyond those, even, and no joy. I even specifically white-listed adobe.com and turned off all of my security software across the board.  If I log in on IE7 (as I am now) the download just fails with a trouble message to Microsoft; again, I followed all listed troubleshooting steps and total failure.  Judging by the number of irate and frustrated posts about this on the general forum this is a very common problem with Adobe's web site.
    Anyway...
    What I need to be able to do, simply stated, is to be able to import several hundred sequentially-numbered rendered 3D image files, have them automatically assigned to individual frames, set a global value for frames per second, and export a high-quality animation file.  Quick and without a lot of fiddly steps required.  I understand the format limitations but I can convert the animation later once it's been created.
    Can PE7 do this, easily and painlessly?
    Thanks in advance.

    My system is a dual core 3.2GHz Pentium with 2GB of RAM and well over 100GB of free disk space, and it gets defragmented regularly.  I use it for 3D modeling with Rhino 3D and LightWave and handle models with millions of polygons no problem.
    The problem with Firefox has nothing to do with system horsepower, it is that this site claims I don't have cookies enabled; I do.  I've gone through all the Mozilla troubleshooting steps, have explicitly whitelisted adobe.com in the browser setting, flushed cookies and cache, uninstalled every single add-on and plug-in I had installed, and even disabled my AV and firewall apps.  This site still claims I don't have cookies enabled.  It makes absolutely no sense and in all the years I've used Firefox on hundreds of sites I have never seen such a problem.
    As for IE7, I installed the download manager when prompted, and that app crashes every time I try to download the trial.  I have sufficient temp disk space enabled (the max of 1024 meg), again my system is way more than powerful enough, and I've uninstalled and re-installed the download manager twice.  No dice.  Each time after it asks me where to put the download file the DLM crashes.  I again disabled all security applications, and I don't have any special add-ons for IE installed because I don't use it as a rule.

  • Renaming image files in aperture?

    how do I rename my image files. I need to do this in order for my photos to be accepted in 'Hugin'. at the moment it says error, this file contains invalid characters, hugin can't use files with these filenames, please rename files. what do I do?

    When you export the version from Aperture you are free to name the exported version anything you wish. Use a format that is acceptable to the site you are sending  the files to.
    Or else just rename the already exported images using the finder.

  • Batch Renaming Image Files from a list of names

    I would like to use the batch rename function in Bridge CS5 to quickly rename newly uploaded image files of our products.  I would like to rename the image to it's corresponding product number.  The issue is that the product numbers aren't in exact numerical order (ie.  the first pic is of product ES2004 and the next one is for ES2012).  The product numbers can sometimes end with a letter or a number.  The pictures are taken in order of the product numbers on an excel sheet.  What's the easiest way to have bridge name the image file to its corresponding part number?

    Here is an example script that will do the re-naming also place the original filename into the metadata.
    CSV format is fileName,Product IE:
    p1020337.jpg,E179562
    p1020338.jpg,Z556301
    Copy and paste the script into ExtendScript Toolkit (This gets installed with Photoshop)
    Open Bridge
    Edit > Preferences > Startup Scripts
    Click "Reveal My Startup Script"
    Save the script into this folder.
    Close and restart Bridge and accept the new script.
    To use, navigate to the folder with the documents to rename, "Right mouse click Menu" select "Rename to Product" and select your csv file.
    #target bridge
    if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    fileNameToProduct = MenuElement.create("command", "Rename to Product", "at the end of Thumbnail");
    fileNameToProduct.onSelect = function () {
       renameToProduct();
    function renameToProduct(){
    var Path =app.document.presentationPath;
    var descFile = File.openDialog("Open Product File","CSV File(*.csv):*.csv;");
    if(descFile == null) return;
    descFile.open('r');
    var datFile=[];
    while(!descFile.eof){
    var line = descFile.readln();
    if(line.length > 5) datFile.push(line);
    descFile.close();
    for(var t in datFile){
    var str=datFile[t];
    str= str.split(',');
    var fileName = File(Path+"/"+ str.shift());
    var product = str.shift();
    if(!fileName.exists) continue;
    var ext = fileName.toString().toLowerCase().match(/[^\.]+$/);
    var thumb  = new Thumbnail(fileName);
    var md = thumb.synchronousMetadata;
    md.namespace = "http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/mm/";
    md.PreservedFileName = thumb.name;
    $.sleep(100); //give it time to update the metadata
    var newName = product + "." +ext;
    fileName.rename(newName);

  • Renaming image files - LR doesn't accept preceding zeros

    I have finished editing in the develop modules & deleted some additional photos in the shoot during the editing process. I do review & delete most of my unwanted images in advance, so please don't lecture me on this!
    Anyway, I went to the library module, selected all, & hit F2 to batch rename all selected images (DNG) in sequence. My problem is this - LR won't accept preceding zeros in the Start Number box. I would like for the first image to have 3 digits - that is: 001. LR eliminates the zeros, resulting in a single digit "1" instead.
    Is there a workaround for this?
    I can rename the images using another program I have, but I'm afraid that the editing adjustments performed in LR may get jumbled.

    Thanks, Dharma Sam!
    I never bothered to go into the edit > custom settings!    DUH!
    That enabled me to get the results I wanted.

  • Image File Names

    Is there any way to tell RH to NOT rename image files when importing/linking to a FrameMaker document?  It would help the poor image quality problem if I could copy the originals into the RH folders, replacing the severly downsampled images RH is using with the better quality ones, but renaming the originals is time consuming and annoying (particularly if RH changes the names).
    Failing that, since most of the images in FM are linked, is there a way to have RH also link to those images instead of creating its own versions?
    Thanks for the help.

    I have played with just about everything at some point to combat the image quality issue.
    I have found that, if the images in FM are linked instead of embedded, it does maintain the file name but adds underscores between words.  The extension gets changed if the format isn't one that RH likes but the name bit is the same.
    Images embedded in the FM doc seem to fare better in the conversion than linked images do, but the filenames are generated by RH.  Why would embedded images convert better than ones with a live link?
    Pasting the orignal files (in PNG format) over RHs converted version works, but all sizing is lost.  Sizing it manually, again, mangles the image.  The problem appears to be with RHs scaling algorithm.  Importing an embedded image works because there is no scaling:  RH just converts whatever it finds in FM.  Linked images may need to be scaled during the conversion, so RH mangles the corpse.
    How does that sound?  And is there any fix or workaround?
    I am currently thinking of using Conditional tags in the FM doc, putting in 2 images for each image.  The second is for RH only, using the same image file, but imported at 96dpi and sized sligthly bigger and with no text wrapping.  Seems a bit clunky, but the end result is much better.

  • How can I rename multiple files simultaneously

    I'm new to Macs and I'm looking for a way to rename multiple files simultaneously. These are photos from my SD card that I wish to give the same name but increment the name by 1 at the end of the filename.

    A Better Finder Rename is perfect for this.   I use it all the time to rename image files.
    There is also a companion app called A Better Finder Attributes that is also useful for image files.

  • Question re: Image Files

    OK, probably a simple question (and one that I can probably
    figure out on my own, by testing it), but when selecting an image
    file from an outside directory, does RH generate a copy of that
    file in the working directory for the project? For example,
    "image.jpg" currently resides in "C:\images", while my RH project
    exists in "C:\RHProject"... When I select image.jpg from C:\images,
    is a copy of it generated in C:\RHProject (and the image reference
    for it set accordingly)?
    I ask because, I currently have a "C:\images" directory,
    where I've been saving all of my generated images and accessing
    this directory from RH. I just today was cruising around the file
    system, and I noticed some of the image files in the RH project
    directory, as well... but not all of them. The thing is, my project
    is huge, and I have hundreds of images. I don't specifically
    remember which images are used and which are trash (i.e., whether
    or not I re-worked or replaced some of them). Anyway, I really
    don't want to have to perform a manual search between each
    directory to verify... So, theoretically if all valid images are
    copied to the RH working directory, I can just delete the images in
    my "C:\images" folder.
    Thanks for any feedback
    - Chris

    First, yes RH does copy all the images to within the project.
    Second, if you are in any doubt, rename c:\images to
    something like c:\zz_images. Drops it to the bottom of your folder
    list but keeps it while you check.
    Third. Go to Tools | Reports | Images and it will show you
    all the images used. Go to Tools | Reports | Used Files and it will
    show you all the files used. You can audit one to the other to
    prove they are all in the project. Easier though is that after
    renaming c:\images, look through the images folder in Project
    Manager and just make sure there are no red Xs. (There won't be)

  • Why is bridge cs4 skipping files when batch renaming images?

    When batch renaming in bridge, I select all the files and then start with the first image to rename them. Over the last few months, it is randomly skipping images. It will also jump the number that image should have gotten, so typically we can manually go through and rename the file so it will line up properly.
    Just wondering why this is happening all of the sudden when it worked perfectly for years!

    Sorry Patrick, Did not see the previews before, only saw the thread via
    email and they don't show the samples you provide.
    After seeing those files it looks definitely like corrupted images. I cannot
    imagine Bridge to cause this. Rereading your post, it more looks the result
    of a bad functioning write/read process on the external HD or a bad USB
    cable.
    Assuming you have back up could you test this on either an other HD or a
    DVD. Just copy the files again to those devices and retry. That would proof
    the fault lies with the external HD.
    Could you report back on that?
    Thanks for your tips. I tried, BUT didnt solve my problem.
    Have you seen how the pictures are distracted ?
    They seem hav gotten some kind of alien-verystrange-crazy-adjusments

  • Question: Saving Image Files In The Repository

    Good Morning all,
    (Running CR2008)
    I have a few image files that I have saved in the Crystal Repository. It works nicely and I've tested it pretty thoroughly to make sure that connected images update across the board. It's a convenient little feature.
    Here's my question ... when you save an image file to the repository, it automatically converts the image file to a Bitmap file type. Bitmaps greatly increase the size of whatever .rpt file uses the iimage. My standard .rpt files go from about 240K to 3.4 megs. This isn't really the biggest deal in the world, but I was wondering if there is a setting that I can check that will have the repository files automatically save in JPEG format, or just keep thier original format (JPEG in this case).
    Any thoughts? Or are we stuck with the Bitmap format? If so, this might be a good subject for a 'feature request' post.
    Thanx in advance for any help.
    -TS
    Edited to add: Sorry about the double-post. I have no idea why that keeps happening. -TS

  • Renaming Images from Text File

    Hello,
    I am trying to rename images in a folder to match the names within in a text file. The names in the text file are all unique, so using a rename batch like example-1.jpg, example-2.jpg, etc. won't work. I have matched the structure between both the name and image file, so I need automator to traverse down the text file and add each unique name to the corresponding image.
    If anyone has some help for this it will greatly be appreciated! Thanks

    I wrote you a shell script that will do the job.
    First, put all your images into a folder (if you haven't already done so). Make a copy of the folder for safety's sake (I tested the script and it should work fine, but it's always good to have a backup).
    Now, make sure each new name in the text file is on its own line. Rename the file to "list.txt" and put it in the same folder as the images (better make a copy of the list, too).
    Now, download this file: http://danielrichman.com/tmp/file_rename.sh
    Put it in the same folder as your images.
    Now, open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal and type the following (without quotes):
    "cd "
    Then open up the Finder window that contains the images. In the title bar of the window, there's a little folder icon. Drag the icon into the Terminal window. (You should see the path copied.)
    Then, in Terminal, press enter.
    Then copy this (and press enter at the end):
    "chmod a+x ./file_rename.sh"
    Then, do this:
    "./file_rename.sh"
    That should be it! Please let me know how it goes.
    Good luck!

  • Question from renaming a file and copy a file

    Hi
    Like I tell in subject I have a question about those 2 functions.
    Well I have a program that will copy files to an other directory for backup. Those files can have so to 1GB. Well I wrote a my code on using FileChannel and that takes some good time to copy it to the other place.
    But then I tried just for fun something different like renaming the file to that path. For example:
    Orignal File: file.db <-- +- 1GB same directory as the jar file
    to renamed file: ../../../test/file.db
    That goes very fast and I can open the file without lost of data.
    But what is the difference between both function because they do the same just that rename is much faster.
    Thx in adavance for your help

    But what is the difference between both function
    because they do the same just that rename is much
    faster.Copying a file involves copying all the data of the file from one physical location on the disk to another. That involves a good deal of IO.
    Renaming/moving a file is usually implemented on platforms in such a way that the data remains at the same location and file table entry is modified.

  • RE: Image files (Save, Rename)

    Hi programmers,
    I need some help on coding.
    I have a subfolder that contain all the small tile Images and I have the program to stitch the images into a complete image and I'm able to save only one complete Image one at a time, I now need to open only the root folder, rename the complete Images and save the image in a specific format.
    But I need to change the file name for example for my situation one of my file format is
    060313_0114PM_XY_MULTI-TILE_X=011_Y=011_RUN006109_SAMPLE_D_205
    and there is a pattern with the format where I have to sort all the files and refine my search with those files with SAMPLE_A_ , SAMPLE_B_, SAMPLE_C_ and SAMPLE_D_ and put it into an array of strings... and rename the file and save the file in this format. eg. SAMPLE_A_205.tif, SAMPLE_B_207.tif ...
    Do anyone got any clue or tips to help me?
    Thanks,
    Alan

    But I need to refine and select only those files with "Sample_A_", "Sample_B_", "Sample_C_" and "Sample_D_"
    I tried match pattern but it don't work from the output of list folder.
    I done some codes though, mind if you take a look at them?
