Repeated failure of connection on iphone 3

Hi All,
Yesterday I posted the problem below. New Question: can anyone tell my how I can go about trying to find out if this is a hardware problem of a connectivity issue? Do iphone 3 typically have these kind of hardware problems? Thanks,

Two iphones (3G & 3GS) in our household both have developed same problem recently: the signal is lost completely and can only be reconnected after powering down the iphones completely & then powering them up again. We have to do this quite frequently. Is this a hardware (failing antennae) or connectivity/carrier (AT&T) problem? I'm afraid that if we go to the apple or the AT&T stores, they will immediately try to persuade us that the phones cannot be fixed and that we need to buy new ones. Phones are about 3 years old. Shouldn't be a faulty USB port on a brand new Mac.
Even though your Mac is new, you still may need to update the system software. Disconnect the iPhone from the Mac before doing so. (not just iTunes). There is a v10.8.5 update available.
Click Software Update from the Apple menu  top left in your screen OR open System Preferences > Software Update then click Check Now.
Restart your Mac after any updates are installed then connect the iPhone and launch iTunes. See if the iPhone is recognized under Devices left side of the iTunes window in the source list.

How can I connect my iPhone to my Mac without deleting all the apps on it?

Last night I bought a bunch of apps using iTunes on my Mac. Then I connected my iPhone and put the apps from the computer onto the iPhone. So far so good.
Today I opened up iTunes on another Mac and before connecting the phone first selected Store > Check for available downloads. A dialog came up saying "all purchases have been downloaded for this account."
Under preferences I checked "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.
I then connected my iPhone to this second Mac and did the update to iOS 4.1.
(By the way the reason I used the second Mac to do this update was that it failed repeatedly on the first Mac with an error saying something like can't create a session. I went through Apple's related troubleshooting document extremely carefully and methodically, but that didn't help. I then followed the recommendation in that document to try with a second Mac.)
Now all my new apps as well as several others are gone from the iPhone.
Also in iTunes itself on the second computer all my new apps are missing. I looked under the "Library" section in iTunes and a bunch of apps that I've been trying over and over for months to simply delete are present and none of the ones I bought last night are present.
Questions:
1. How can I get my apps back? It cost me a lot of time and money to discover those apps and get them onto the phone. Are they just gone now?
2. How can I connect my phone to my computer without completely ******* up my phone? Does Apple provide a way to do that?
3. Is there ANY way that I can effectively control what is and is not on my phone (apps, videos, etc.) or is that just supposed to be sort of random?
By the way it appears that Apple doesn't allow "potty words" on its forum because we all are, after all, six year olds. So just to be clear, what I MEANT and what I WROTE was "eff u cee kay i en gee up my phone."

Look on other screens. The 4.1 update ands Game Center to the home screen. If that screen was full it create a blank screen and moves one app from the home screen to the new screen to make room for Game Center. All the other screens are pushed back one place.
How can I get my apps back? It cost me a lot of time and money to discover those apps and get them onto the phone. Are they just gone now?
If they are really gone, you can download them again. You will not be charged again if you use the same iTunes account.

IPhone 3G update to 3.0 with repeated 1013 errors - now bricked iPhone! ;-(

Attempting to update an iPhone 3G to 3.0 from 2.2.1 and it's now a brick.
Note that I've tried this now from THREE different computers, two macs and one windows box with identical results. I've uninstalled iTunes on the windows box before doing the update attempt.
The error message is "1013" which also takes you to this highly uninformative page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275.
Ok, the USB cables and ports on three computers see the same problem error. So it's either the iPhone itself or iTunes 8.2 (23) or both.
Digging a bit deeper I found that there is a log file kept on the mac. Change to this directory from your home directory "~/Library/Logs/iPhone Updater Logs/" where you'll find one "iPhoneUpdater N.log" file for each attempt to update that you've done.
When the error occurs Apple asks if I want to send the info to them! YES!!! Make sure you do so that they can sort this out.
Ok, looking in this log file (I won't dump it all here) you can see a number of errors. The end of the log file shows:

Clearly there are some problems. Earlier in the log file it had problems updating a number of files.
Now I've tried this "Connect your iPhone to the computer. press and hold sleep and home, and as soon screen goes blank, count off 5 seconds, then let go of sleep and keep holding home." That didn't change anything. sigh.
It's almost as if this particular version of the iPhone that I have is incompatible with the current iPhone 3.0 operating system components. Maybe there is a bad driver? Hmmm....

So clearly the file "/usr/local/standalone/firmware/ICE2_04.26.08.fls" isn't transferred properly! Something is amiss somewhere...
Could it really be that it can't download the update file to the iPhone due to USB problems? Surely Apple has access to fault tolerant file transfer protocols they can use?
Sigh... now I'm without my primary phone... grrrr... arrrrg... should have waited....
Apple maybe you could learn something about "ACID TRANSACTIONS" and include them into the update process to guarantee either 100% success or 100% abort rollback?
I don't know if this is relevant but now in iTunes on the iPhone page it no longer shows any values at all for the "name, capacity, software version or serial number" fields which is kind of spooky. Does this mean that I need to take the phone in for service? Is it permanently toast?

Just visitied the Apple Store in Vancouver and wasn't allowed in! They had a wall of orange shirts AND two mall SECURITY guards preventing people from entering UNLESS you were there to purchase a new iPhone 3GS!
The orange shirt gave me grief refusing to allow me to see a service person! So I asked to speak to his manager. Matt showed up and read me the same riot act of BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! They claimed it was the first day since they opened that they closed their Genius Bar!
The fact remains that it was APPLE's Update that bricked my iPhone that I depend upon.
So the manager went off to get his boss when I asked him too. I think he was just glad to get away from a rational insistent customer spoiling their wonderful happy Apple day selling new phones.
So a non-technician showed up and offered to take my phone into the store and try to update it. She lied. She returned to tell me that my warranty was expired due to the "water litmus" paper being RED. ***? You've got to be kidding! I've NEVER had it anywhere near water! The lie was that she didn't actually try to connect it and that she was going to secretly find out if my warranty was void. Not what I call informed consent.
So I asked her to check and try updating the phone anyway and off she trundled. Less than no time she returned telling me that my iPhone couldn't be seen by three of their computers! ***! It was working on my three computers at home!
In fact as I type this it's running another update this moment. About 3/4 done.
So now Apple's Update Bricked my iPhone which was working perfectly without any problems. If they hadn't brought their update out the phone would still be working just great!
Needless to say I'm extremely annoyed yet composed (for the moment).
So my options at this point seem to be to (1) replace the phone for ~260.00 CAD or (2) upgrade to a 3GS for an indeterminate amount if FIDO permits it, or (3) hope that Apple home base gets their act together with a new iTunes update which can at least get the phone working again, (4) toss the phone off a bridge, (5) sue Apple and FIDO for their negligence in providing faulty software updates that bricked the phone. Grrr... Arrrggg....
Oh, it just failed the update again! At least it can be seen by my computers (two mac and one vista box).
Ok, now what...
CHECK YOUR iPhone warranty voided strips to see if they are RED/PINK! If it's only iPhones with RED that are the problem then maybe that's the cause. HOWEVER, if even ONE iPhone has this problem and it's not got a RED water strip then it's conclusive that the problem is elsewhere - basic diagnostic process and rock solid logic. Please check your RED WARRANTY VOIDED STRIPS and let me know here... you check them with a flash light at the bottom of your iPhone in the slot where the SIMM card is and where the dock/cable connector goes in. Shin the light into there and move the phone or the light about till you see either a 1/4 inch long strip - RED/PINK means you Apple won't honor your warranty or their craftsmanship.
Ok... now to find out how much it will cost to upgrade to a 3GS on the FIDO plan. Sigh. Grrr... arrrggggg....

Connection of iPhone to PC failes due to missing necessary software

although I have the updated Itunes software on my PC I receive a failure message when I connect the iPhone to my PC saying that I have not the necessary software on my iPhone. On the other side my iPhone is recognized by my internet explorer and is visible as a hard drive.
It worked before but from a sudden this failure message is now popping up. Also no synchronization between PC and iPhone is anymore possible.

Hi i wonder if anyone is experiencing the same problems i am having transfereing photos from the 3Gs to a PC. I have plugged the cable in via the usb and the scanner and camera wizard pops up (sometimes), but when you open the advanced user tab there are no photos showing in the window. I have been on to Apple and they have no idea at precent why this is. My mate also has the same problem on a MAC and a PC running XP. The photos are there but i can get them off my phone to a file. ITunes picks up the phone no problem??????

I know why. It happened to me before. Try typing random stuff, eg aaasjddjfndirinfekdnkedindor , into the text box, then delete everything using the x-arrow on the keyboard. It should work now. If not, repeat the process again and again. It's because it needs to send the signal to the other recipient(without him really knowing it, this is to check that he can see when you are typing, you know, the "…" bubble), then check that you have 3G at good speed, then enables iMessage. It works for me this way...hope it does for you too (:

2.5 Problems - SOUND and FAILURE to Connect to Email and Weather

Hello, The upgrade didn't make a difference - the Sound on my iPhone is WAY too low. I cannot use it in a city, period. (must use a headset - I've never had a cellphone that required a headset in moderate noise atmospheres). The Speakerphone is profoundly weak - it may as well not exist. Literally it sounds like a regular cell phone NOT on speaker but turned up 3/4 volume. I had several cell phones that were naturally loud like that. I sure miss that feature.
What is the DEFINITIVE solution for this? I've been away and reckon there MUST be a Famous Apple Solution by now?
MAIL CONNECT FAILURE - most often at Home (NO Cell signal; Wireless signal from Linksys access point) but very often wherever I am, when I click the mail button, NOTHING happens except the status says 'connecting' for a while then stops and the notes read 'last updated [3 hours ago]' That is, last updated 'time' from my LAST successful email update several hours ago, but NOT from any current download. I shut down, try again - nothing seems to work and the Mail will act this way in what seems an arbitrary amount of time/failures (sometimes overnight) then it will behave as designed - connect and download when I click on Mail button.
The SAME THING (periodic, arbitrary Failure to Connect) happens with the Weather, except with the Weather the status reads 'updating...' for a bit, then states 'update failed'. Remember, this happens at home (WiFi) AND when I'm in Public (EDGE AND WiFi) and is seemingly arbitrary. (I'm pretty sure it happens with Stocks as well, but I'm not trying as often...)

There was no update on 10/26 nor has there been any update for a number of weeks.
My check update currently says 11/1/07 but that merely means that iTunes will automatically check on that date. It does not indicate that there will be an update.
You can always check by manually depressing the 'Check for Update' button on the iTunes info page. That will tell you whether your current firmware is the most recent version and what the version number is.

How do I connect an iPhone 5S or 6 with audio video cables? Our van only has these connections. Apple did have a cable that worked with the 4/4S, but it does not work with an adapter on the 5S. I want audio only.

My iPhone 3S will not allow me to upgrade. I can't download any apps and when I connected my iPhone to iTunes and tried to upgrade it, it said it was already updated. On top of that, WiFi does not work with my iPhone. What do I do to fix this?

My dad got this iPhone for me a few months ago as a gift since I had a really awful phone before. The only thing is, I can't seem to upgrade it to the latest software without it telling me it's already updated to iOS 4 or something like that. (I would be able to give you the exact iOS version, but ever since connecting my iPhone to iTunes, my phone isn't responding so I can't check the settings or anything.) I can't download any apps (I get an error message saying the software on my phone is too old) and so I pretty much am extremely limited to what I can do on this phone. I'm very frustrated at this point and incredibly displeased with Apple's products.
If someone could please explain to me why this is happening and what I can do to fix it, I'd be extremely grateful.

What iPhone do you have? You can check in settings>>general>> about.
If you have a 3G you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. The 3G is over 4 years old an was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You need the latest ios to run the latest versions of some apps. If you have a 3GS you can update.
If your phone is not responding, reset it by pressing and holding down both the home button ad lock/ sleep button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.

If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?
