"Reply-all" puts addresses in CC field

Whenever I select "reply-all" for a message, it puts the original sender's email address in the "to" field and all other email addresses in the "cc" field.I want all of the email addresses from the original emails "to" field in the "to" field of the reply message. How can I do this ? The Mail version is Version 4.5 (1084) .

I don't think you can change the way Mail does this. The person who sent the original is the person that the reply is addressed to.
Now, you can manually drag the contents of the CC field up to the To field, but I presume you are looking for something automatic. The only thing I can suggest is maybe write a little Applescript to set up the reply, leaving the outgoing message open for editing.

  • Address Book Department Field Fails to Sync

The department field from my iMac won't transfer to the department field on my iBook and vice versa. The department field will be populated in one, but blank in the other. The number of contacts in my address books are equal. The contacts are updated, but without the right department field.
I've restarted my computers. I've updated the software from the apple menue. I've restarted my computers.
I try to use all of Address Book's fields. Shall I stop using the fields other than name and address? My only other option is to put the other data in the notes field. I don't have time to double check my data everytime I sync.

I don't have any ideas, Jack, but I do have the same problem. It's something that just popped up—one of those things that seemed to work one day and not the next. The data is there, it's just not populating the field in Address Book. Strange... and annoying.

  • OSX Mail : reply all - my email address is also in to/cc field

When i receive an email, and i hit Reply All, my email address is also in the TO or CC field. There is nowhere an option to disable this behavior.
    I got this situation :
TO : email addresses of friends and my email address
    FROM : my email address
How can i solve this ?

My Apple Mail app was doing the same thing. In my case I found a solution. It turns out that the email address that my coworkers were sending to was a duplicate email account with an alias. I added the alias to my current account settings by separating them with a comma. This allowed me to use only one account and kept my email address from showing up in the CC field when I hit "Reply All".
    Example 1:
    [email protected], [email protected]
    Example 2:
    [email protected], [email protected]
    Hope this helps

  • Mail.app missing to field in reply all

    Hi,
Using OS X Lion with Mail.app, DavMail, and IMAP (Exchange). Just recently, people at work have been telling me that when I reply all to a message from someone (that is also sent to others), the recipent does not get the message.
I looked at the raw header from Mail.app, and the Cc: list was there in the middle, and near the bottom was the To: field with the recipient. However, when a coworker looked at the recieved mail (he was on the Cc: list), the raw header only had the Cc: list and not To: field.
I don't know if this is a problem with Mail.app on Lion, Exchange, or something else (DavMail).
I'm going to try some tests sending and replying to different combinations, to see if it is just reply-all, and if it happens every time. Any other ideas to troubleshoot?
I've never seen this, when using Snow Leopard. I've been using Lion for about 2 months now, and it was OK until last week. I'm trying to see if there are other people at work with Macs, seeing this problem.
    At a loss,
    PCM

I had the same problem today with (Mavericks) Mail and was able to fix this easily:
In the search bar, look up some email which is in the archive. In the upper right corner of this email you find two links: "details" and "archive ..". klick on that "archive". it will place the archive folder back in the sidebar permanently.

In Mail, when using "reply all" why does Mail automatically include my email address in the cc line? Whey would I want to include my email address in an email I am sending.? Anybody have any idea how to stop Mail from including my email address in the cc line when using "reply all"?

Automatically cc myself is not checked.  I did find out that if you have multiple email address that all of them need to be associated with "My Contact" tab.  Thanks

  • Can't remove addresses after reply all

    Hello,
When I click "reply-all", I'm unable to delete some of the addresses from the address bar. I select them and hit delete, but when I click away, they pop right back in! Anyone else have this issue? Perhaps it's related to one of my add-ons:
    Attachment Extractor
    Signature Switch
    Spanish dictionary
    Virtual Identity
    Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Win 7 Enterprise x64 SP1

I also have this problem, using Thunderbird 31.0 under Mac OSX Mavericks.
I disabled all plugins, and the problem went away. I re-enabled Virtual Identity 0.9.18 and the problem came back.

  • Address removed from Reply All

This is the reverse problem that a lot of folks have with Reply All adding their own email address into the thread. My issue is the opposite. I've added a second account to Mail, and when I Reply All to something sent to that address that was also addressed to my original enabled address in Mail, my original address is removed from the CC. I've tested on Yosemite and Mavericks Mail, and same result. Reply All seems to by default remove the address of your other enabled mail accounts from that thread. I see no way or setting to override this and find it very frustrating as I need that original address included in the conversation and for fut.

    Florian,
You haven't missed anything -- it is a "feature" of Mail! Seriously, I have tested it, and sometimes I have seen it pick a second address (when two of my addresses are in the To) as the From when clicking on Reply on the same computer. The latter behavior is based upon the hierarchy of appear in the Sidebar, as best I can remember.

  • Mail.app 6.0 - reply all now cc's my email address - fix?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion last night. I started using Mail and now anytime I reply all it copies my email address.
Under the composing preference tab, the Automatically cc myself option is UNCHECKED.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Same problem here. I also have "Automatically cc myself UNCHECKED.

  • Reply all to about 50 addresses

I can hit reply all if I only have three or four addresses, but my school alumni association has about 50 members. Every time I try to do a reply all to them, I get an error that my email won't go through. It says "the server response was: unrouteable address"
It's very frustrating because if I send them individually, they seem to go through but this is neither productive nor expedient.
I can't find any limitations on sending, but I know it must be something...
    Any ideas?

That may be the case, but why are other people able to do a reply all and have it work, out of the box so to speak, without any issues, but I can't?
Also, I think I have tried sending 3 or 4 of these at a time and they worked ... or sending to everyone using the same addresses, but as a new email. I can't do a forward of the same mail though. I get the same errors.

  • Reply all includes my email address as CC.

Reply all includes my email address as CC. when reply to an email from a user created mailbox but not from the main Inbox. How do you stop this?

Same here. I have three seperate mail accounts and when I reply to the emails within their respective inboxes everything is fine. But if its a message that is moved out of the inbox because a rule has been applied, then all bets are off. If I reply to one of those messages it cc's me and does not "Send from the Account of the selected mailbox.

  • Reply All fails on ";" separated email addresses

I get emails from my boss in which email addresses are separated by a ";".
    eg. [email protected];[email protected];[email protected]
When I try to "Reply All" from Apple Mail application, it shows an error as "Invalid email address". However on my webmail account, these addresses are recognized and converted to email addressed separated by ",".
Anyway I can over come this problem?

I do not have a separate Mac that I can access. But I created a new account on my MacBook and tried sending email with two email addresses separated by ";"
    eg. [email protected];[email protected]
And Mail gave error of invalid address. Please help.

  • Reply All not including all cc addresses

I have this problem in the latest Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Reply All will always pick up the To but only sometimes catches the cc's.
If 3 people were cc'd, sometimes it picks up all 3, sometimes 2 of the 3 and sometimes none of them.
    Seems to be random.
    Anyone else experiencing this? thanks

How do we go about getting Apple to remedy this action?
I don't think this is something for Apple to remedy, as I am not seeing (and never have seen) this problem. I think it must be something specific to your setup, though what that might be I don't know. (Note that, just because you both see the same thing, that does not make it a bug any more than two people with fevers must have the same illness.)
I'm not much of a Mail expert, so the only thing I can thing to try is to move the following items to the desktop, restart Mail, reconfigure your accounts and then import the mailboxes from the Mail folder on the desktop:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    ~/Library/Mail/
Of course, this is an extreme measure, and someone else may be able to provide a more targeted solution. And, it should go without saying but often doesn't - you should be sure to have good backups before trying this!

  • HT5361 Reply all not working

Reply All is not working internally.  We have a Mac OS X Verstion 10.9.4, mail version 7.3 on the office computer.  If an email comes in from a client and has all of my colleagues included in the email and I hit Reply All, it does not include my colleagues in the return message.  Why?

I wonder if they put the combination of addresses in the To: field instead of the CC: field.  That might confuse the Mail application.  You can always copy/paste the addresses to the CC field.  Preferably, you want to use BCC anyway instead of CC, since a virus on one PC could add every member on the CC list to an spam e-mail spoof bot that adds everyone to a big spam e-mail list.  Use View menu to add the BCC field.  BCC= Blind Carbon Copy.

  • Apple mail auto cc's myself when I reply all after installing ML, how do I stop this annoyance?

I installed Mountain Lion and when I use apple mail now and reply all, it automatically will put my email address in the CC field.
My preferences have this turned off, but it still does this....
Any idea what to do to stop this annoyance ?
    Help me!

I think I'm having an "a-ha!" moment thanks to doug38.
But it needs a bit of clarification: You need to edit your iCloud account.
    Go to PREFERENCES.
    Choose ACCOUNTS
    Click on your iCLOUD account.
There is a dropdwon menu for Aliases- Choose CUSTOM.
Enter your preferred reply-from email address.
Note how that address should slide to the top of the account lists.
If Doug38 is right, that should do the trick!
