Report Builder 3.0 odbc database name using parameters

 I am using an ODBC connection for my Datasource in a report  (MYSQL).
I have a valid connection for the report using a database name in the connection string  i.e. 'BOE-201402'.
However I need to be able to allow the user to run the report using different databases.
I can get a list of the databases as a parameter by setting a dataset using the following
SELECT `SCHEMA_NAME` FROM `information_schema`.`SCHEMATA` WHERE `SCHEMA_NAME` LIKE 'BOE-%' ORDER BY `SCHEMA_NAME` DESC;
i.e.
BOE-201402
BOE-201401
I have set a parameter called @BOE_DATABASE from the drop down list provided above.
What I need to do is before rendering the report is to be able to point the datasource to the database stored in @BOE_DATABASE so that the results that are in the report come from the chosen database.
I am sure that there is a way to do this as I have done this using ACTUATE BIRT reporting tool which we want to replace urgently with Microsoft SQL
I would sincerely like to thank any quick response on this matter

    Hi Cherise,
    Vishal's link looks good.
    I have commercial experience in migrating Crystal Reports to SSRS. When performing any type of migration it is always wise for the business requirements to be revisited. It is likely that the business requirements may have changed since the Crystal reports
    were initially developed, etc.
    I've done some research for you and the following link looks quiet impressive and offers a cheap trial, in terms of a direct migration. Please tell me how you get on; -

    I emphasis again I have commercial experience of lots of migration projects and it would be very unwise to not revisit the business requirements as part of the migration process.

  • How to develop a report in Crystal with flexible database name?

    Hello
    I am a Project Manager of a project of developing reports in Crystal 11.
    The idea is to develop reports on top of the content in MS SQL tables.
    The initial testing and demonstration to the customer is done within the Crystal development environment.
    In a later stage, we need to integrate the reports with C# WPF application, using Crystal control.
    We currently use ODBC connections.
    We want the flexibility to set the actual database dynamically, by using the "default database" of the ODBC connection (or any other way). In other words, we want not just the flexibility to change the database server, but work with different database names, like "ProductDB_TEST", "ProductDB_PROD" etc. - without changing the report.
    Unfortunately, we got the answer from the developer that the database name should be pre-defined for a given report. Although the connection can be set to another server, the DB name cannot be set dynamically.
    Looking into the "Database" -> "Show SQL Query" menu, we see the following piece inside the query:
    INNER JOIN "DATABASE_NAME"."dbo"."IncidentTypeSnapshotData"
    So it looks like the query itself contains the DB name.
    Is it really a limitation of Crystal, or rather the developer working on the project doesn't know the trick?
    Thanks for any hint
    Max

    CR CR 2011 / "Crystal reports For Visual Studio 2010", you are correct.
    Re. the database thinggy. You can connect to a database via ODBC, OLE DB or in some instances natively. Once a report is created you an change the datasource. A good sample app on how to do this is  csharp_win_dbengine / vb_win_dbengine. A link to the samples is here:
    Crystal Reports for .NET SDK Samples - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki
    More info on connecting to dbs and changing them is in the developer help files:
    SAP Crystal Reports .NET SDK Developer Guide
    SAP Crystal Reports .NET API Guide
    More info on CR APIs for .NET (applies to all versions of CR and VS):
    Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2005 Walkthro... | SCN
    You can also use ADO .NET Datasets and in this way you handle the database connections in your app. A good sample is csharp_win_adodotnet (also available in VB) - same link as above.
    More info on datasets:
    Crystal Reports Guide To ADO.NET
    Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET - Walkthrough - Reporting Off ADO.NET Datasets
    For more complicated operations (e.g.; changing a report from ODBC to OLE DB, changing one table, etc., you will want to use the InProc RAS SDK that is also available in CRVS. Developer help files are here:
    Report Application Server .NET SDK Developer Guide
    Report Application Server .NET API Guide
    Sample apps are here:
    NET RAS SDK Samples - Business Intelligence (BusinessObjects) - SCN Wiki

    More info on RAS SDK:
    How to Use The RAS SDK .NET With In-Process RAS Server
    Lastly, do use the search box in the top right corner. I find simple search strings such as 'crystal net parameter' return best results (KBAs, Blogs, docs, wikis, discussions and more).

  • Adding pagination in report build from PL/SQL dynamic content using htp.p

    Hi,
    I have a requirement for which i used PL/SQL dynamic content to build my report and i displayed my report using a cursor and loop by HTP.P function.
    Now problem is I have report with more than 500 rows and I want to add pagination concept for this report.
    How can i do that?
    Thanks in advance.

    To preserve heading on each page for a HTML table you can use the THEADER, TFOOTER and TBODY tags (see example). To force page breaks, try experimenting with these style attributes:
    <STYLE TYPE="text/css">
         tr.breakhere {page-break-before: always}
    </STYLE>
    <tr class="breakhere">Table Example:
    htp.tableopen;
    htp.print('<THEAD style="display:table-header-group">');
    ... your table headers here
    htp.print('</THEAD>');
    htp.print('<TFOOT style="display:table-footer-group"><TR><TD></TFOOT>');
    htp.print('<TBODY>');
    ... your rows here
    htp.print('</TBODY>');
    htp.tableclose;Edited by: crokitta on Apr 8, 2009 2:07 PM

  • Using Report Builder to make Letters

    I am trying to use report builder to create templates for
    letters and other multi-page documents, the query automatically
    inserts data from a database (the price of something for example).
    Whenever I try to fit the document in report builder it says
    something like "Report compilation error. Report design not valid :
    1. The title section, the page and column headers and footers and
    the margins do not fit the page height. " Is there any way to get
    this text to automaticaly go to the next page instead of just
    giving me an error? A better way to do this would also be great (I
    have templates in .rtf format with bookmarks where query objects
    go)

    Hi Rajan,
    Reporting Services provides two report authoring tools: Report Builder and Report Designer in BIDS/SSDT. Whether you can design an Ad-hoc report based on Web Service data source depends on the version of the Report Builder. In Report Builder 1.0, we can
    only use report model to design a report. In Report Builder 2.0 or higher, we can use the built-in XML data source type that can retrieve data from Web service to design a report.
    The Report Builder 1.0 is available in SSRS 2005. For SSRS 2008, we can upgrade the Report Builder to Report Builder 2.0 by installing the SQL Server 2008 PCU1. For SSRS 2008 R2 or SSRS 2012, the Report Builder 3.0 is included natively.

  • ColdFusion Report Builder 9 Using MySQL query's

    Hey Everyone
    I have been pulling my hair out for several days with this, I have all of the Adobe ColdFusion 9 dev books, and Google returns a cluster of information that doesnt seem to work. I was hoping someone could help me out here.
    So what I did was open query builder in Adobe ColdFusion 9 Report Builder, I clicked the icon at the top that says report query and placed the following mySQL information, which works fine.
    MySQL
    select name.soc_sec, name.last_name, name.first_name, nmcrs.course,nmcrs.crs_txt AS Course_Title ,practicl.day_cod,CAST(practicl.start_hr AS VARCHAR(2)) + ':' + CAST(practicl.start_min AS VARCHAR(2)) AS Start_Time,
      CAST(practicl.end_hr AS VARCHAR(2)) + ':' + CAST(practicl.end_min AS VARCHAR(2)) AS End_Time, nmcrs.section, nmcrs.sch_yr, nmcrs.sm_desc, nmattend.attend_txt,address.phone,address.cell_phone,
      address.e_mail
    From name
      --INNER JOIN  nmprg ON name.soc_sec = nmprg.soc_sec
            INNER JOIN  nmcrs ON name.soc_sec = nmcrs.soc_sec
            Left Join crssect ON name.soc_sec = crssect.crs_id
      Inner Join practicl On practicl.sid = nmcrs.sid
            inner join nmattend on name.soc_sec = nmattend.soc_sec
            Inner join  address On name.soc_sec = address.soc_sec
    WHERE (name.camp_cod = 'California') AND (nmcrs.sch_yr = '201213')and (nmcrs.semester = '1') and (nmattend.attend_txt = 'SP') and
      (nmcrs.section not like'w%')
    group by name.soc_sec, name.last_name, name.first_name,nmcrs.course,nmcrs.crs_txt,practicl.day_cod,practicl.start_hr,
       practicl.start_min, practicl.end_hr,practicl.end_min,nmcrs.section, nmcrs.sch_yr,nmcrs.sm_desc, nmcrs.grade,
       nmattend.attend_txt, address.phone,address.cell_phone,address.e_mail
    ORDER BY nmcrs.section, name.soc_sec
    Now I place my fields where I want them in the desgner, I double click the field to open the expression builder and all I have to type is something like query.Start_Time
    When I run the report it lists all of the start times that match my criteria.
    good
    So my trouble is, I would like to use an if statement to make something happen based on the start time and cant get it to work. I have tried using <cfscript> <cfif> <cfquery> if, IIF, nothing works, mainly because once I use one of those tags it no longer recognizes the query.Start_Time.
    I was wondering if someone could give me an example on how to do this like
    <cfif (query.Start_Time) IS '12:0'>
    query.Start_Time = '12.00'
    </cfif>
    or
    <cfscript>
    if(query.Start_Time == '12:0')
         query.Start_Time = '12:00';
    </cfscript>
    I mean I know thats wrong and Its probably not that simple but all I need is a simple example to work off of and one would be greatly appreciated. Or even an example in the mySQL info I provided would work too. Please Help
    Thanks
    Shawn

    Shawn, forgive me not focusing on the direct question, but I want to clarify first that this is not the right forum for that question, about the CF Report Builder. This forum is for CF Builder, the relatively new CF IDE (integrated development environment) for CF, based on Eclipse.
    Your question about the CF Report Builder should be directed to its own forum, the CF Reporting forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion/coldfusion_reporting
    I do understand the easy confusion (the name CF Builder is awfully close to the CF Report Builder). Also, the forum name “CF Reporting” may not have jumped out as a place for RB questions. (For any readers who may be interested, the list of all CF-related forums is at http://forums.adobe.com/community/coldfusion)
    That forum is not as busy, no, but then the Report Builder is quite a bit older, having come out with CF 7, and not really having been updated much since then.  Still, there are folks there who have replied to questions asked, including Adobe staff.
    Since I don’t read that forum myself, and won’t see your question asked/answered there, let me point out something else that may help (in case others there would not).  You say “I have all of the Adobe ColdFusion 9 dev books”, and that may mean various books like the CF Web App Construction Kit books that Ben, Ray, myself, and others have done.
    But did you know that there is an entire chapter on the CF Report Builder in the free online CF9 manual called “Developing ColdFusion 9 Applications” (a 1300-page manual which many miss entirely , as happened with the versions for CF8 and 7 as well). Many people never even know there is any such “documentation” from Adobe for working with the CF Report Builder. I’ll note also that we (writers of books) may not always get into all the detail that’s in those docs because, well, we don’t want to duplicate their effort. But I know even some writers/bloggers/forum respondents never even know of the manuals, as they are rarely referred to.
    In your case, with the CFRB, it’s especially important to be aware of its substantial chapter:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Developing/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec22c24 -6fc2.html
    For instance, you may already know about this but there you’ll learn that there is a QUERY attribute for the CFREPORT, whereby you can build the query dynamically (as any CFQUERY can be) and then pass that resultset to the report. That may suffice to solve the challenge for you, but if it does not, then you may want to at least take a moment to peruse that chapter before proceeding to ask the question in that other forum.
    And if the book doesn’t help (and I grant it may not) them one more suggestion before you may re-post the question on the other forum: it really may be best for you not to make reference to MySQL or CF9 in your subject, as you did here. There’s doesn’t really seem anything about your challenge that’s specific to them, but saying it in your subject may limit who would read/reply (if they don’t use with MySQL or are not yet on CF9).
    Hope something there’s helpful.
    /charlie
    PS If you may feel that this answers the question, please do mark it as such in the forum web interface, if you would please. Thanks.

    I use this code in form 10g to edit a ms word and its work properlyI very much doubt that. Calling DDE from Forms this way would result in trying to open Word on the <b>server</b>.

    Thank You

    Have a look at the reports help for the purpose header and trailer sections. Here is an exert:
    "Report sectioning enables you to define multiple layouts in the same report, each with a different target audience, output format, page layout, page size, or orientation. You can define up to three report sections, each with a body area and a margin area: the names of the sections are Header, Main, and Trailer. By default, a report is defined in the Main section. In the other sections, you can define different layouts, rather than creating multiple separate reports. If you wish, you can use the margin and body of the Header and Trailer sections to create a Header and Trailer page for your reports."

  • Report Builder 1.0 for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2

    We are trying to implement Ad-Hoc Reporting using SSRS 2008 R2.
    First of all, it is very unhelpful that all SSRS books are for either 2008 or 2012, even though SSRS has major changes in 2008 R2 compared to 2008.
    Our instructional materials indicate that we should build Report Models to abstract out our databases into terms familiar to our business users.
    The problem we are having is the difference in functionality between Report Builder 1.0 and Report Builder 3.0. Report Builder 3.0 is touted as having the modern, ribbon based interface that is supposed to make end-users feel more comfortable.  However,
    all the documentation says that end users are supposed to use Report Builder 1.0 for Ad-Hoc Reporting.  And, it seems, that the reports generated by Report Builder 1.0 are not round-trip compatible with all the other reporting tools for SSRS 2008 R2.
    The documentation we have illustrates that Report Builder 1.0 is nice for Ad-Hoc reporting, because is based on connecting directly to Report Models, and the end users can directly drag-and-drop entities and fields into their reports.
    When we try working with Report Builder 3.0, it seems we must first connect to the Report Model as a Data Source and then build a Dataset query on the Report Model.  Only then are some entity attributes available to be dropped into the report.
    If the user decides another source column is needed, they have to go back, edit the query, save the query, and then drag the column from the Dataset to the report.  This does not seem end user friendly at all!
    We are also concerned that if we train our users on the seemingly soon-to-be-obsolete Report Builder 1.0, and get them used to having direct Report Model access, that at some point we will have to move them to the Dataset-interrupted approach of Report Builder
    2+.  Highlighting this perception of impending obsolescence of Report Builder 1.0 is that in our shop that is starting with SSRS 2008 R2, we cannot figure out how to get a copy of Report Builder 1.0 in the first place.
    We just don't see our end users being savvy enough to handle the steps involved with creating Datasets on top of Report Model Data Sources.  So we would have to build the Datasets for them.  But in that case, what point is there in creating any
    Report Models in the first place if DBAs are the ones to make Datasets?
    As such, it is hard to envision a forward-looking SSRS implementation that has the end user ease-of-use Ad-Hoc reporting that the SSRS 2008 documentation presents.
    What is it that Microsoft actually wants/expects SSRS implementers to do?

    Hi Dan,
    Report Builder 1.0
    Simple template-based reports
    Requires report model
    Supports only SQL Server, Oracle, and Analysis Services as data sources
    Supports RDL 2005
    Bundled in SSRS
    Report Builder 2.0 or later
    Full-featured reports as the BIDS Report Designer
    Doesn't require (but supports) report models
    Supports any data source
    Supports RDL 2008
    Available as a separate web download
    In your scenario, you want to use Report Builder 1.0 in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2, I am afraid this cannot achieve. Report Builder 1.0 is available in the box in either SQL 2005 or SQL 2008. It is not available as a separate client apps and is
    only available as a click once application.
    Report Builder 1.0
    Report Builder 3.0
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Report Builder 2.0 User Password Change Issue

    A user changed her password (domain account) this morning and can no longer open the query designer (we are using an SSAS data source) or run a report in Report Builder 2.0.  She can still access the SSRS front end report manager reports with no issue (and she enters her new password).
    When clicking Run for a report in the Report Builder 2.0 the following error message displays:
    The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.
    When trying to open the Query Builder for a dataset in the Report Builder 2.0 the following error message displays:
    An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
    Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
    A connection cannot be made.  Ensure that the server is running.
    The security log in the applicaiton event log on the report server logs the following with each failed attempt:
    Unknown user name or bad password.
    Three other users have recently reset their passwords and had no issue with Report Builder 2.0.  I am thinking that her password may be cached or saved within Report Builder 2.0 and it keeps using her old password.  I have had the user reboot and uninstall/reinstall Report Builder 2.0 but neither fixed the issue.  It appears after uninstalling that all application data was not removed as recent reports show after reinstalling and I was not prompted for login credentials again.  I had our domain admin reset her password back to what it was before she changed her password and all issues in Report Builder 2.0 went away and she could use the Query Builder and run the reports.  I need to figure out how to let her change her password and have Report Builder 2.0 work though.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Sorry, going to Options > Settings and clicking "Clear all recent item lists" didn't work for me.  My login credentials are still cached, and I'm not prompted to log in, when I launch Report Builder.
    I'm running Win7 Professional, IE10.  I cleared my browser cache as my first attempt to clear the login, but that didn't work.  I even cleared again, making sure to select to clear stored passwords/logins, but that didn't clear it, either.

  • Logical database names

    hi experts,
                  pls give me the main logical databases names used for taking reports using SAP query in sq02.
    ex hr- pnp,material ckm etc

    Hi
    Check the tables related to LDB's
    LDBS
    LDBT
    T0220
    see the doc on LDB
    A logical database is a special ABAP/4 program which combines the contents of certain database tables. You can link a logical database to an ABAP/4 report program as an attribute. The logical database then supplies the report program with a set of hierarchically structured table lines which can be taken from different database tables.
    LDB offers an easy-to-use selection screens. You can modify the pre-generated selection screen to your needs. It offers check functions to check whether user input is complete, correct, and plausible. It offers reasonable data selections. It contains central authorization checks for data base accesses. Enhancements such as improved performance immediately apply to all report programs that use the logical database.
    Less coding s required to retrieve data compared to normal internel tables.
    Tables used LDB are in hierarchial structure.
    Mainly we used LDBs in HR Abap Programming.
    Where all tables are highly inter related so LDBs can optimize the performance there.

  • Oracle Report Builder Bugs

    If the JSP file generated by Report Builder contains the statement,
    <systemParameter name="DESTYPE" initialValue="Screen" display="yes"/>
    you will receive the following error message when you try to run the report in Web Layout:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: REP-56092: No class defined for destination type Screen
    I found the only solution to be to remove the offending statement, or set its display parameter to no. (The statement can be found in the JSP file under the <data> tag.)
    This statement displays the Runtime Parameter Form dialog which is intended only for Paper Layouts. Seems as if Report Builder is reading a Paper Layout statement from the JSP file when it is executing a Web Layout command.
    Another minor problem occurs when you open a report and attempt to display it in Web Layout before connecting to the database. When the Connect dialog appears, the mouse pointer remains as an hour glass.
    The Report Builder came packaged with Oracle Developer Suite 10g, but the Report Builder's Help About shows version 9.0.4.2.0. However, I noticed that other copies of Oracle Developer Suite 10g came packaged with Report Builder version 10g. I can't say whether the above problems apply to these later versions of Oracle Builder or not.

    Hi,
    There's a dedicated forum for Oracle Reports and I would suggest you to post your questions there to get answered by those who are experienced in Oracle Reports.
    I did work with Oracle Reports a long time ago, so as I remember, you have to create a link between colb and colc fields. When colb is null then this link will pull over colc and print it in place of colb.
    Hope this helps.
