Report Manager problem: The user or group name 'BUILTIN\Administrators' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)

Hello,
I have a big problem with Reporting Services 2005 working on Windows 2003 Server.
RS work as Network service, on subdomain reporting.mydomain with SSL wildcard certificate *.mydomain,
Anonymous access: disabled and basic authentication: enabled
ReportManager and reportServer has defualt virtual folders (/reporting, /reportserver)
My problem is:
1) I can't manage security roles and site settings with report maanger. when I try assign roles to new user or group I get followng error:
"The user or group name 'BUILTIN\Administrators' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName) Get Online Help"
when i try to execute reports in report manager, parameters controls are not displayed correctly (very simple text boxes) and I can see:
The selected report is not ready for viewing. The report is still being rendered or a report snapshot is not available. (rsReportNotReady)
and I can't see my report in browser (IE 6.0) but only export to PDF, Excel...
other functionality are working fine i.e upload new files, creatign folders....
2) Also my reportserver virtual folder does not work correctly.
When I navigate to mydomain/reportserver I can see content of this virtual folder, than when I navigate to ReportService.soap i can see normal ReportServer view

but me reports are not displayed correctly, I can run reports but top bar with parameters, export and print function are not displayed in correct format.

I just wanted to know if you found a solution for part (1). I just recently encountered the problem where:

However all my reports are run from the most recent data. The rsReportNotReady message appears in Report Manager but not the Report Server interface; the latter is able to render the reports. But both have incorrectly displayed textbox inputs.

Hello,
Based on the error message, it seems that you want to grant premission to a windows user or group on Report Server.
If it is domain user or group, you should add with this format: <domain>\<account>. If it is local windows user or group, you should add with this format :<servername>\<account> or just <account>.
Just as TenPart post above, please verify the account <BUILTIN> exists.

i have create a group name Finance using these steps.
my computer rightclick -> manage->create group -> add user
now i add this in reportmanager ->sitesetting -> domainname\Finance.
but getting an error..
"The user or group name 'domainname\Finance' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName) "
I also tried to give permission to user those in active directory but getting the same error.

Dear All,
I am using MSSQL SSRS 2008.
All the reports run properly when viewed via a web browser. However for subscription, I am having a strange
experience.
The subscription having intermitten failure. I need to execute multiple times to get it work.
Following is the exception I am getting:-
Failure sending mail: The user or group name 'xxxxx' is not recognized.Mail will not be resent.
Failure writing file DailyPolicyExportCDN_ST@timestamp : The user or group name 'xxxxx' is not recognized.
Following is the exception I retrieve from log files.
webserver!ReportServer_0-2!1b0c!07/31/2014-05:25:09:: e ERROR: Reporting Services error Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ReportServerHttpRuntimeClientDisconnectionException: A client has disconnected from the Report Server Web service application

According to your description, you can access your report successfully, but it fail to send e-mail subscription. Right?
In this scenario, since you can access the report successfully, so this user has permission on report server. Please go to E-mail setting in your Reporting Services Configuration Manager, check if the current user has permission on that SMTP server.
If this is still not working, please recreate the subscription and try again.

When trying to add a group from Active Directory onto the reporting services security we get the following error
The user or group name 'groupname' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)
We are able to add users from Active Directory this only fails on group.

Hi Jason,
The error “The user or group name<name> is not recognized (rsUnknowUserName)” means the Report Server cannot find the user from domain or local users or groups of Report Server. Reporting Services stored users with users’ SID. After we tyoe a username
in the username textbox, the Reporting Services will user the method “LookupAccountName” in Window API to get the users’ SID. If the API cannot get the SID of the user, Reporting Services will throw the expression “rsUnknowUserName”.

AX Dynamics 2012 Reporting Service Extension Error - The user or gorup name is not recognized

I am currently installing AX Dynamics 2012 Reporting Service Extension on one of our machine. But this always fails during the installation with this error:

Our current domain is MWSerp
An error occurred while adding users AxERP\qaproxy, AxERP\qaaos, MWSerp\qaproxy to the SQL Server Reporting Services DynamicsAXBrowser role in the folder dynamicsAX. The error is: The user or group name AxERP\qaproxy is not recognized.
The database was restored from our old Ax Deployment on a different domain - AxERP if you noticed on the error, 2 domains are present: AxERP (old domain) and MWSerp (our existing).
I find it peculiar that it is still adding old accounts from the old domain which is not existent. Tried looking for it on the registry or on the AX Dynamics User account but there are no entries on AxERP\qaaos and AxERP\qaproxy on it.
Do you have any clue on where AX Installer is picking up those information which needs to be added on the DynamicsAXBrowser? Tried stopping /starting the AOS Service and generating WCF. Also tried looking on registry but couldnt find it. How can I bypass
it so the Extension will be installed successfully. I also tried not deploying the reports, just the Extension only.

Role in bpm when the role is dynamic (manager of the user)

Regarding the bpm I face a case as below:
I have a bpm which in one of its step a human task would be generated for the Manager of the user that initiate this process.
Assume that I kept the username of the initiator on one of my variable how can I set the user's manager role?
as in the bpm I just can set the role and in the mapping of bpm role to LDAP role I can not use the xpath or dynamic thin I can just can select the LDAP user or group.

Try this:
Go to the "XXX.task" file of your user screen, you can find it in the structure tree on the left panel inside the "SOA Content" directory of your main project.
You will see a serie of tabs in the left side of the new window. Go to "Assignment".
There you will see a default.DefaultPerformer inside a box. Click on it and the on the pencil icon to edit it.
In the new window you can add the participants using the "by name" or the "by expression" option. If you have the username stored in a variable, you can use it here to dynamically assign the task.

User and group names truncated with ls

Hello,
When using the 'ls -l' command the resulting list truncates user and group names that are longer than 8 characters.
Is this a know issue?

I ran a search using Xfind (Rixstep) on /bin for 'userfromuid' and /bin/ls was listed as I might of expected.
Also, /bin/ls was also listed when 'getpwuid' was used as a search Key.
Peeking further into /bin/ls further with Xstrings (which is Rickstep's "adaptation" of the "strings' tool" ) reveals the string '_ getpwuid'.
Does this mean that at some point the 'ls' command can call the getpwuid() directly under some circumstances rather than going through userfromuid() which relies on the cache you mentioned?
The problem is the size of the table; userfromuid() allocates only 8
characters for each username (the number 8 comes from UT_NAMESIZE in /
usr/include/utmp.h), and truncates the username if it is longer. This
may be "fixed" in a future version; or it may not be "fixed" to keep
backward compatibility. I'm not sure.
I've heard that utmpx.h has 'UTXUSERSIZE' which is defined as 32. Does not that allow for user and group names larger than 8 characters?
By the way, I can't find the directory usr/include/utmp.h on my drive.
Is there a way to reset or redefine this 'UT_NAMESIZE' field to more than 8 characters wherever the userfromuid() function stores it?
The commands "users", "who", and "w" read the file /var/run/utmp, in
which truncatd usernames of the currently logged-in users are saved.
Does some command initially call the function as 'ls', userfromuid(), to result in truncated names being saved in file /var/run/utmp as well?
I think there are many programs which depend on this fixed-width utmp
file, so it may not be "fixed" in a future version. "
I believe there are third party tools which rely on the userfromuid() call which require this bug to be fixed in order to display accurate user and group name data.

Is there any way to generate a report (like a migration report or job status report) which can be generated through workspace/shared services 11.1.1.3 so that my admin can look at all the users and groups created. Something that I can view and probably print out? Any suggestions?

How can i message out the unexisted material group name.

Selection screen: material group
s_maktl is a range, "AA_1" to "ZZ_9".
I check the existence of material group in table T023. select *
into table i_t023
where maktl in s_maktl.
Example, 'UU_3" is not in table.
But how can i tell "UU_3" is not existed???
i want to message out the unexisted material group name.
Can anyone help?

In this case you have to know all the combinations of all the materials groups. Taking your example, considering that only letters and numbers vary, we will have tons of possibilities, which is practically not feasible.
Other option would be to check whether the user entered values in LOW and HIGH of select option field, In you example say if AA_1 is not present in T023, i can validate that record.
But at the same time the values which are not entered and are implicitly calculated based on the string patterns, are practically not possible to validate.

Per my understanding that you got some error when you upload reports in the report manager, right?
I have checked the log and the issue can be caused by many factors.
It can be caused by the size of the report is too big which will sent the request in its entirety and got a TCP ACK-FIN or RST from server to close the connection, without a response from server when uploading the reports. We can follow these steps
to increase the request size to resolve the issue:
Add the following registry key with the following value:
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters
Value: DWORD "MaxRequestBytes" set it to a value of 5242880 (5MB). (This number is alterable).
Stop the SRS Windows Service.
From a cmd prompt run "net stop http" then "net start http".
Try and upload your report.

The SecureConnectionLevel property allows values of 0,1,2,3, with 0 indicating that Secure Socket Layer is not required for any of the Web service methods. And a positive integer indicates Secure Socket Layer is required for all the Web service methods.

HA-VMM cannot be installed : HAVMM name in db is differs from the user specified HAVMM name

I have a two node HA VMM cluster. This is working correctly and has been for while. I am now attempting to add an additional node to the cluster.
I joined the node to the cluster and then start the VMM install and follow the wizard till it gets to the Database Configuration Page. When I Click Next here nothing happens.
If I check the C:\ProgramData\VMMLogs\SetupWizard.log file I see the following error as the last item.
HA-VMM cannot be installed : HAVMM name in db is differs from the user specified HAVMM name
If I check the S
CVMMCDB01 I find the HAVMMName property with a value of SCVMMC01.domainname This is the same value that is returned when using powershell with Get-SCVMMServer
When I check the cluster configuration it is the same story. I connect to the cluster name scvmmc01.
Even if I look at Cluster Manager I can see the name is tied correctly.
Any ideas would be great as I am effectively now stuck and cannot install another node.

It happened because you renamed your VMM cluster after first node installation.
Juts update HAVMMName value in dbo.tbl_VMM_GlobalSetting. Start SQL Server Management Studio, connect to your VMM DB, and Edit table.

SCCM 2012 Report that shows the users with specific software installed

Is there a report in SCCM 2012 that shows the users with specific software installed? The report should show username, machine name and the software name. I am looking for a report that shows the users with the following softwares installed:
1. Adobe(all versions)
2. Photoshop(all versions)
3. MS Project(all versions)
4. MS Vision(all versions)

Take a look at the Asset Intelligence reports in the software section. You may get a list of computers with a product installed, and you might have to use that list to find the primary users based on user device affinity.

Restricted Characters: User and Group Names

I'm going through the documentation for Essbase and I'm trying to find an exhaustive list of all the restricted characters/keywords for User and Group Names.
I've found what I think is the list for Apps, DBs, Dims, and Dim Members here: Oracle Essbase Database Administrator's Guide
I've also found a link that says the only restricted character for User names is a backslash: Essbase Administration Services Online Help
Does anyone know if there are any other restricted characters for User names and Group names? I recently created the user @<>/\:';[]{} in Shared Services. I was surprised that it actually let me do it. I was even able to log into EAS using this user name. However, I couldn't add the Essbase server. However, the user did show up in the Users Table in EAS for that server when I logged in as a different user.
