Hi
Report painter:
A tool for creating reports that meet specific business and reporting requirements.
The Report Painter enables you to report on data from various applications. It uses a graphical report structure that forms the basis for the report definition. When defining the report, you work with a structure that corresponds to the final structure of the report when the report data is output.
The SAP System is delivered with several row and column models that can be used as building blocks to help you create reports quickly and simply.
Report Writer:
A tool for creating reports that meet specific business and reporting requirements.
Report Writer enables you to report on data from multiple applications. Using functions such as sets, variables, formulas, cells and key figures, you can create complex reports that meet specific reporting requirements.
When working with Report Writer, you can use certain functions that are not supported by Report Painter. These functions include:
Multidimensional column structures
User-defined definition of inactive row and column combinations
Enhanced functions for using cells in column formulas
ABAP Query:
An ABAP Workbench tool that enables users without knowledge of the ABAP programming language to define and execute their own reports.
In ABAP Query, you enter texts and select fields and options to determine the structure of the reports. Fields are selected from functional areas and can be assigned a sequence by numbering.
ABAP Query offers the following types of reports:
Basic lists
Statistics
Ranked lists

  • Report Painter or ABAP Query

    Hi,
I have to create one report with the use of three different Tables. is it possible to create in Report Painter or Report Writer or ABAP Query? or i need to customize that report with ABAPers?
Can anybody please tell me for Report Painter and Report writer, can i use Two Tables?
and in ABAP query how i can create the report?
    I'll really appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Niki Shah

    Hello Niki
You create a query based on an info-set. Info sets are special views of a dataset so can be :
    - Table joins ( more than one table)
    - Single tables
    - Logical data bases (view of the database)
You create a report painter from a library which is based only on  a single totals table.

Can we join tables in report painter / writer?
    Regards
    HK

    Hello
table joining required if you want a report wherein you need field from more than one table with interlinked field. Then create infoset in SQ02 and use that infoset and create Query in SQ01 and design as per requirement. Abap coding also possible here
Report writer/pointer you can refer table for any feld requirement, no need to join thats only viewing
    hope I answer u properly

    Hi rajneesh,
    Report Painter : -
You use the Report Painter to create reports from data in the Special Purpose Ledger (FI-SL) application component and other R/3 application components to meet your specific reporting requirements.Advantages of the Report Painter include:--Easy and flexible report definitionReport definition without using setsDirect layout controlABAP QueryThe SAP Query application is used to create reports not already contained in the default. It has been designed for users with little or no knowledge of the SAP programming language ABAP.SAP Query offers users a broad range of ways to define reports and create different types of reports such as basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists. ABAP Report--
A ABAP Report is the one which is used to display the output in the form of list with out any GUI screen. It is less userinteraction. or Reading and displaying data, for example in a list. Obsolete name for an execution program that can only implement reporting
Report Painter allows you to create reports using data from SAP application components, which you can adapt to meet your individual requirements.
Many of your reporting requirements can already be met by using the standard reports provided by various SAP application components. If these SAP standard reports do not meet your reporting needs, Report Painter enables you to define your specific reports quickly and easily.
Report Painter fulfills a function similar to Report Writer, but is easier to use. Most of the functions found in Report Writer have been built into Report Painter; however, you do not need to be familiar with all Report Writer concepts (such as Sets) in order to use Report Painter.
When executing a Report Painter report, it is displayed by the system in Report Writer format. You thus have access to the same functions as for Report Writer reports defined in the same way, and can combine Report Painter and Report Writer reports together in a report group.
Report Painter uses a graphical report structure, which forms the basis for your report definition and displays the rows and columns as they appear in the final report output.
To facilitate report definition, you can use many of the standard reporting objects provided by SAP (such as libraries, row/column models, and standard layouts) in your own specific reports. When you define a Report Painter report you can use groups (sets). You can also enter characteristic values directly.
    Advantages of Report Painter include:
    Flexible and simple report definition
    Report definition without using sets
Direct layout control: The rows and columns are displayed in the report definition as they appear in the final report output, making test runs unnecessary.

  • Hi Regarding Report Painter/Writer

    Hi All,
I am new to the Report Painter/Writer concepts. I got an object based on this concept.
Can you help me where i can get the material on Report Painter/Writer. and what are the important Tcodes used in Report Painter/Writer.
Already i had some Ztcodes i need to enhance/customize these tcodes by adding some extra fields to the report output.
Help me out in this senario. how to proceed ?
Thanks in advance to all, Waiting for your Fast replies.
    Urs,
    Sateesh.

    hi sateesh,
Where Is Report Painter/Report Writer Used?
Initially, both tools were only available to the FI/CO modules. Later, with the introduction of the Logistics Information System and Flexible Analyses in Release 3.x, the functionality of these tools was further expanded. It still is not widely known that the Report Painter/Writer can be used for reporting against structures other than those delivered in FI and CO (see TechTalk on page 8-4).
A common misconception in the user community is that Report Painter/Report Writer can only be used to report against a single table. However, some reporting structures do report against multiple tables. For example, CCSS (for Cost Center Accounting) refers to tables COSP, COSS and more, depending on the key figure configuration. Similarly, FI-SL (Special Purpose Ledger) reporting structures include summary and line-item tables (the key figure set determines where the data comes from).
To configure other table joins, views may be created joining the necessary tables, and views can be added to the control tables, via Flexible Analyses in LIS. Report Painter/Report Writer can be used in almost any application area in R/3 to report on currencies and quantities.
    Data tables supported
Both Report Painter and Report Writer can be used to report on the following tables and tables types:
<        Evaluation structures set up in the Logistics Information System (LIS). These structures normally begin with an “S” or “ZF.” Several different tables and views within the R/3 System can be added as evaluation structures.
Note: You cannot add cluster tables, such as BSEG.
<        CCSS is used for Cost Center Accounting (CO-CCA), Internal Orders (CO-OPA), Activity Based Costing (CO-ABC) and for cost element reports in Project Systems (PS).
<        GLFUNCT is used for functional area reporting in cost-of-sales accounting.
<        GLPCT and GLPCOP are used for Profit Center Accounting (CO-PCA/EC-PCA).
<        FILC is used for Legal Consolidations (FI-LC).
<        COFIT is used for the Controlling Reconciliation Ledger (CO-CEL).
<        ZZ tables are created for the Special Purpose Ledger (FI-SL).
<        FIMC is used for consolidations in the Enterprise Controlling module (EC-LC).
<        GLT0 is used for Financial Accounting (General Ledger) reports by account, company, and business area (FI-GL).
<        KKBC, KKBE, and KKBU are used for the Controlling Product Costing module (CO-Costing).
<        New in Release 4.0A: RWCOOM is used for CO-CCA, CO-OPA, and CO-ABC. RWCOOM is used for special standard reports like internal order budget reports, cost center budget reports and cost component reports.
Note: RPPS was used for Project Systems (PS). However, it is obsolete and will no longer be supported in Release 4.0. In Release 3.x there were only two special reports (6P70 and 6P71) using RPPS. These reports cannot be called directly, but via ABAP reports RKOPLAN0 and RKOPLAN1.
How to Access Report Painter/Report Writer?
To access the Report Painter you may use either of the following two methods:
    <        Transaction FGRP
<        From the SAP main menu, choose Information systems ® Ad hoc reports® Report painter.
Report Writer functions can be accessed from within the Report Painter. To access Report Writer, choose the following menu path from the SAP main menu:
Information systems ® Ad hoc reports® Report painter® Report Writer.
How Is Report Painter/Report Writer Organized?
Report Painter/Report Writer has four main components:
<        Sets: Sets are logical groupings of characteristic values. For example, a cash line on a balance sheet is made up of a set of cash accounts or an energy product line on an inventory report is made up of a set of energy products. Variables can also be created which are placeholders for sets, or values within sets.
<        Libraries: Libraries control which characteristics and key figures from a table are available for reporting.
<        Reports: Reports hold a definition of the rows, columns, and overall data selection. They also include the header and footer texts and layout settings.
<        Report Groups: Report groups can contain one or more reports. The report group is what you execute—not the actual report. A report group is generated to create a set of ABAP programs that produce the reports.
How Does Report Painter Differ from Other Reporting Tools?
<        With the exception of row titles which have text fields, Report Painter/Report Writer reports display numerical fields only (for example, dollar and quantity fields). This is not a requirement for ABAP Query and typical line item reporting tools, which can display arbitrary text columns.
<        While printed Report Painter/Report Writer reports appear much the same way on paper as they do on screen, the Drilldown reporting tool produces a different output format. Drilldown reporting is an online analytical tool which can be used to drill down to different levels of detail, but it is infrequently used for printing.
<        Report Painter/Report Writer reports are hierarchical and take advantage of configured hierarchies (for example, with cost center hierarchies). You can also execute Report Painter/Report Writer reports from each level within a hierarchy.
<        Report Painter/Report Writer reports can handle multiple currency/quantity units within a single column.
<        Report Painter/Report Writer is well suited to handle reports that require mass production. For example, Report Painter/Report Writer is a particularly effective tool for creating month-end reports.

  • Report Painter / Writer - Horizontal Line

    Hi
Can anybody please let me know how to get a horizontal line after a particular row in a report painter/writer report.
    this is very urgent!!
    helpful answers will be rewarded!!
    raghav

Hi there.  This is from SAP help:
On the Create Report: Rows screen, move the cursor to the row set for which you want to enter characteristic information and choose Edit --> Choose.
The Row Characteristic dialog box appears. You can switch between characteristics using the Prev. characteristic and Next characteristic buttons.
Enter data in the Totals display group box as required:
The Totals display fields allow you to enter a number range of levels and then:
    - Underscore or overscore with single or double lines or format characters at these levels.
    - Insert additional blank lines between levels.
    - Highlight lines between levels.
    - Define colors for lines.
Set the Lower border indicators depending on how you want the lower border for the row characteristic totals to appear. You can define the lower border so that no lower border appears, a single line appears, a double line appears, or a user-defined character is used for the border.
Set the Upper border indicators depending on how you want the upper border for the row characteristic totals to appear. You can define the upper border so that no upper border appears, a single line appears, a double line appears, or a user-defined character is used for the border.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi,
You can create a library via GR21 transaction. What tables do you want to join? Depending on this, one can tell whether it's possible or not.
You can search for available info on the forum; similar questions were already asked.

  • Error GR493 report painter/writer with special ledger

    Hi ,
I am trying to create a report painter using a table of a special ledger. The table is the one for 'real item'. The following error appears:
'Table ZIFRSA is not installed in Report Writer.
    Message no. GR493
    Diagnosis
The Report Writer can only report on tables if the attributes of these tables that are relevant for reporting are defined in control tables. This is not the case for table ZIFRSA.'
We are not using intercompany transaction. My question is if it possible to make report in report painter/writer with this table.
I can make report with the total table of special ledger, but not with the one for real item.
    Thanks,
    Cecilia.

    Hi Cecilia,
I guess the tables created through SPL should look as follows:
    1. ZIFRST - Totals Table
    2. ZIFRSA  - Actual Line Item Table ( I guess this is what you are calling real item)
    3. ZIFRSP  - Plan Line Items Table
Bear in mind that, the report is not created off table ZIFRSA but rather ZIFRST.  Please create the report writer or report painter using table ZIFRST.
If the above suggestion did not work,  then check the solution provided in OSS note 3761.
    Elias

  • Mass Change of Sets for Report Painter/Writer Reports

    Hi,
We have upgraded our system from 4.6c to ECC 6.0. We are using more
than 40 Report Painter/Writer reports which in turn are using Sets.
However, these sets are containing reference to a Table which we want
to change for all the set enmasse. e.g. If currently the sets are using
Table Reference "ABC", we want to change it to "XYZ" because the
table "ABC" is not at all existing in our new system ECC 6.0.
Even we are unable to change the sets through T.Code GS02 as the table
itself is not existing. And as the table is not existing, the Reports
are giving hard errors saying that the sets do not exist.
Kindly request you to guide us in this regard.
    Thanks in advance,
    Shalin Shah

Looks like you have to create new sets and assign them in the report replacing the old ones.

  • Report Painter/ Writer - Query on customization changes

    Hi All,
I had this query on report painter.
A couple of GL accounts are created newly. Now, the same are to be included as line items in existing 'Zee' report under Report Painter functionality. I went to GR32 > input selection for existing rpt >> took me to GR02. I made the changes in development client.
My dilemma is, how do I populate this report change upto Production system ? - by a transport or export/imp functionality.
Also, if request is generated through GR32(toolbar) what will it generate customization or workbench ?
I have read Wiki  and tried to execute GR37, but not confident about the same.
Appreciate if you could share you inputs.
    Warm regards.

    Hi Christian,
Thanks for your reply. But, if we have to move the changes to INT, Pre- Production and Production clients, then is
T-Code GCTR a better option so that the transport is generated and it will overwrite the report in the Production client with this change.
Also, if the transport is generated will it be customization or workbench as raised earlier ?
I do not intend to delete any report from the systems.
    Warm regards.
