Reports servers in 10.1.2.0.2

Hello to all,
Quick rundown of software - Windows Server 2k3, 10G AS 10.1.2.0.2 (forms and reports standalone)
My first question is how do you remove the default reports server in a standalone installation of forms / reports? Do you simply modify the opmn.xml and targets.xml to remove the references to the default rep_<servername>? Are any other steps required to remove this instance?
I have created two other reports servers (offline and online) to handle our reports (using addNewServerTarget.bat), and the default is not necessary...
Also, I am noticing within the forums that each custom reports instance must have a unique name on the entire network. Currently, we are running 6i forms/reports, and on each of our 7 load-balanced web servers we have 2 reports instances - online and offline. They are named the same on all servers, installed as Windows services, and users are load-balanced thru a Cisco Local Director. With 10.1.2.0.2, installing as a Windows service is no longer possible, and if i understand the unique name requirement correctly, then I must change names on each server also. Is this correct? Does anyone forsee any problems load balancing thru the Local Director with all reports instances uniquely named?
Your thoughts are appreciated...
We're currently working on upgrading from 6i to 10G AS, and the differences are sometimes difficult to wrap your head around.
Thanks,
Scott

I haven't tried this and am not sure about certification etc. - suggest you ask this in the J2EE forum:

  • How to create reports servers with the same name in two nodes in Reports

    Greetings
We are migrating Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) to a better hardware infrastructure with high availability. We want to provide 2 new Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4) in High availability and we want to avoid modify the existing forms and reports code, but the code is looking for a specific reports server name when calling reports, but I couldn't create the same reports server name in the both oas machines, I could create the reports server in only one node. I want to create a reports server with the same name in both nodes but it is not possible. I know that there is a procedure to do that in 10.1,2 (Note 437228.1, How to Create Two Reports Servers With the Same Name in the Same Subnet) but I couldn't find the equivalent procedure in 9.0.4.
Anybody kwows how to create a reports server with the same name in two nodes using 10g (9.0.4)
    Thanks

    Hello.
I applied the patch 4092150 on my oas 9.0.4.2 and I modified my rwnetwork.conf file changing the port to 14022 by following the note "How to Create Two Reports Servers With the Same Name in the Same Subnet? [ID 437228.1]" but I am facing the same error rep-56040 "server already exists in the network".
When I run osfind command I get the following information (My reports server is senarep and I want to create it on SNMMBOGOAS10):
osfind: Found 2 agents at port 14000

  • How to configure multiple report servers in Oracle 10 G R2?

I want to configure multiple report servers with my application deployed on Oracle 10G R2. Since R2 does not support report server clustering, how can this be achieved without any change in the application?
Currently, the application is running with single report server.

    Hi Martin,
Well we are trying to run a report without exactly specifying the name of reports server anywhere, e.g. in database or in form or anywhere else. Now if I do not supply a reports server name using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT, the error it displays is FRM-41211: Integration Error : SSL failure ... However if I specify the reports server name in the form, the reports run perfect. Also the name of reports server is specified in rwservlet.properties.
Now the question goes as follows:
Can I run my report from Form without specifying the name of the Reports server anywhere at all. This is so because either an in-process reports server should be picked or the one which is entered in rwservlet.properties should be pickec up by default. Please correct us if we are wrong. once we are through with it, we have to move to Oracle 10gR2 concept of reports server.
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Ruchi/Saurabh

  • Multiple Reports Servers on single machine

Forgive me if this has previously been posted - I searched, but I'm probably using the wrong terms to search properly.
Our current environment calls for two OAS installs (10.1.2.2.0) that access two separate oracle databases (10.2.0.2 if it matters). Those same app servers also run Forms and Reports (also 10.1.2.2.0), which the apps access.
What we are now attempting to do with limited success is to consolidate those two application servers and reports into one machine but have the services essentially separate, so that not only do the applications access different databases (this is where we've succeeded) but also the reports are separate (from the limited knowledge i have, i think it will require a separate cgicmd.dat file...maybe?).
In case i'm not being perfectly clear, i need to have the exact same report (many, in fact) on two separate reports servers (on the same machine) contacting two separate databases (incidentally by duplicates of the same app, too, but I can take care of that part).
Any tips on how I could accomplish this? I followed the short steps outlined here:
    http://www.oracle.com/webapps/online-help/reports/10.1.2/state/content/navId.3/navSetId._/vtTopicFile.rptoem_hs%7Ctasks%7Crptoem_conf_addnew_repserver~html/
But I'm a bit foggy regarding what to do next.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

The report gets called via the rwservlet (hope that answers your question correctly)
    The application is in OAS.
The separation i require is both in the database and the reports themselves.
For example let's say i have devapp and testapp - both the exact same app. But they both need to access reports under the same key, but the report needs to get its info from its respective dev and test databases. The key is hardcoded so can't change.
If i understand correctly (a big "if"), the cgicmd.dat file tells wich report to grab and which database to connect to based on the key. Is there a way to have separate key map files (cgicmd.dat) called by separate applications? So that devapp will get Report1 using devdatabase, where testapp wil get Report1 using testdatabase?
It may not be possible to do this kind of server consolidation, I just need to know one way or another for sure - and if it is possible, how to proceed.

  • Moving multiple reporting servers to one server

Our current environment consists of several 2008 r2 native reporting servers that have there own reporting database.
Our new environment will be a load balanced 2012 native report server that will use one 1 SQL 2012 reporting database.  How would I go about migrating all the 2008 R2 databases into 1 central database.  I have read up about some migration tools
that are available but I'm not sure if the tool(s) will allow the option for specifying a specific database, which will allow all the content to moved.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Multiple report servers - with different uifont.ali

Can we have multiple report servers with different NLS_LANG?
They all should be started as windows service. Also I would like to have them look at different uifont.ali. The reason is that we want to have the same report run with different fonts in different languages. This way I can map the fonts in uifont.ali as I want.
    Is it possible?

I don't think this is possible with multiple reports servers with one Oracle 9iAS home. You will have to install multiple 9iAS, in different Oracle homes.
This also means that you have different URL's (port numbers) for the two environments.
I have used this configuration before to install a test and production environment on one web server. Changing the conf files, variables etc. in the test environment doesn't influence the production environment that way.

  • Report servers

    Hi all,
can in-process default report server and stand-alone report servers co-exist / work at the same time?
or do i hv to put-off either one of them to work with reports? But as far as i remember oracle recommends in-process for high availability and performance and not stand-alone if iam nt wrong.

    hi,
    thanx for replying.
I faced an issue like this before.had had tar with oracle and they said in-process is like certified for high-availability and standalone rep servers arent that much tested for high-availabilty. They suggested using in-process instead of stand alone for high availability.
    one more Q:
if i put the parameter SERVER_IN_PROCESS=NO in rwservlet.properties , will my in-process rep server go down or will be disabled for the moment.
I used to think previously that i must turn of in-process to make stand-alone rep servers to work by marking SERVER_IN_PROCESS=NO in rwservlet.properties file.

  • Accessing clustered report servers from Forms

    Hi
The "Oracle Fusion Middleware Publishing Reports to the Web with Oracle Reports Services 11g R2 (11.1.2)" manual in Section 2.5 talks about setting up a High Availability environment for Reports.
It discusses how to set the cluster configuration and how to create a reports job repository in the database. It says that you need to have a unique name for each report server, finally it says that you should use Oracle Web Cache to load balance for the reports cluster.
If you are calling the report server from Forms with a run_report_object then you don't go via the web cache, so I am confused how you send your report request to the reports cluster in a load balanced fashion.
Has anyone done this or can explain how this works for Forms?
    TIA
    Tony

I know that this is an old thread, but I've taken the liberty to bump it up, as I have the same question.
The Reports documentation describes quite succinctly how to configure the report servers to be clustered - no problem there.
The issue is that when you run a report from forms using run_report_object, you are required to specify a report server name. The Reports docs specify that all of the server names must be unique, so this seems to indicate that you cannot use a clustered report server environment from Forms, or am I missing something somewhere? Oh, wait - an insight coming here - Can you (I'll test this, but it would be good to know) specify a cluster name instead of an actual report server name? Google to the rescue:
Using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT: If the call specifies a Reports Server cluster name instead of a Reports Server name, the reports_servermap environment variable must be set in the Oracle Forms Services default.env file. If your Oracle Forms application uses multiple Reports Server cluster names, you can map each of those cluster names to a different Reports Server using reports_servermap in rwservlet.properties, as follows:
There's the answer. Sometimes writing the question down helps figure out the answer :)

  • Compare and adjaust configuartion for different Report Servers

    Hi All,
in one OFM-environment (11.1.1.6.0), I need to find and adjust different configuartion between reports servers.
I can see in EM only ONE Report Server under asinst_1 and colud not find other Report Server (in-process-server). In addition, I can see both Reports Server with showjobs...
What is wrong and how can I solve that?

  • Non-reporting servers

Every few weeks I get an email from Microsoft Operational Insights that tells me that I have several non-reporting servers.  These servers no longer exist.  There are no computer accounts in on-prem AD, no agents in SCOM, and they aren't listed
in "Advisor Managed' in SCOM.  I have tried a few queries (http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6519218-purging-non-reporting-servers-configuration-asses) and (http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6949226-implemented-feature-to-remove-managed-management)
and the computers do not show up at all in Microsoft Operational Insights.  Does anybody know how this report is generated or how to purge these non-existent servers from the reports?

I'll answer you here, I am closing the other identical uservoice report as duplicate of the one you already found.
Currently those are only about the OLD advisor configuration assessment scenario and yes we have discussed the same here
http://feedback.azure.com/forums/267889-azure-operational-insights/suggestions/6519218-purging-non-reporting-servers-configuration-asses and it's an issue with that legacy backend.
You can't delete those machines, but you can turn off the email notification for those emails - we talked about this here

  • 9iAS Release 2 Forms/Reports Servers

With 9iAS Rel1, there was a forms and a reports startup script for the servers. I'm not seeing this with Release 2. Also, we have had problems with Reports with regards to the DISPLAY environment setting. Where do I alter the DISPLAY for the reports server? Is there a dummy variable that we can set for this?
    Thanks in advance,
    jim

    Start Report Server:
    rwserver.sh server=<reportserver-name> batch=yes &
    Stop Report Server:
    rwserver.sh server=<reportserver-name> shutdown=immediate authid=repadmin/reports
    DISPLAY:
In $ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh you can add following:

  • Need info on Max number of report servers

    Hi ,
We have some products( built on oracle 10G and forms 10G) running and for it to run we have 5 application servers .
    The OS is Solaris
    Oracle version is 10G R1.
We had till now one dedicated Report server .
But now we need to have more than one report server .
Can we have more than one report server attached at same time and in working condition ?
    Kindly advise .
    Regards
    SHUBH

You probably won't get one either. Just wild guesses. This isn't something that Adobe would release as fas as I know.
If you want my wild guess, I'd say 95% of the computers in the US have Reader but again, I have no real information to base that number on.

  • Report servers with the same name ?

We have multiple report clusters on the same subnet.
If clusters have the same name, then how you can view them in the report queue?
    TIA

    Hi Michael,
Suppose your cluster is cluster1. Now if another organization starts a reports server with the same extension (eg, rep123.cluster1), then that reports server will become part of your cluster.
So the summary is that you cannot have 2 different clusters with the same name in the same subnet. That is why it is necessary that you choose a name that you think should be unique.

  • Report Servers with different NLS_LANGs

Is it possible to have one (default) in-process report server set to one NLS_LANG and another added in-process report server set to a different NLS_LANG? If so, what config needs to be set to accomplish it?

Why do you want to use the inline server? Better would be to create a Report Server for each language (I think). Just set the NLS_LANG before starting each Report Server.
In most cases it's always good to create an own dedicated Report Server instead of using the inline server. It doesn't cost more resources if that's your worry!
Also worth investigating Franks hint (above). I too have heard of it, although never tested it.

  • How to Start In-process Reports-Servers automaticaly ?

    Hi everybody,
we have WLS Farm_SMT_FORMS Version 10.3.6.0 installed on a Windows 2008 server. The managed report server WLS_REPORTS is configured as a windows service with startup type automaticaly.
Wen we reboot the Windows 2008 server the managed report server WLS_REPORTS ist starting up fine, but the In-process Reports-Server Process will be still down.
We can start the In-process Reports-Server via enterprise manager 11g fusion middleware control an it comes up without any problem.
Now my question: Is there any configuration parameter for the In-process Reports-Server to force him up whenever the managed report server WLS_REPORTS is started or restarted ?
    Many thanks for help.

    Hi Kal,
    1. Configuration window services status ( WLS_REPORTS ) is automatic.
    2. Stopped window services ( WLS_REPORTS ) by MS Service control.
    3. Restart window services ( WLS_REPORTS ) by MS Service control.
    4. window services ( WLS_REPORTS ) is running. In-process Reports-Server inside WLS_REPORTS is down.
