Repository for Oracle RDBMS installation ports (Oracle 12c)
Is there a repository for Oracle 12c where to find the configured ports after installation and above all after any change(s) in configuration?
I think about: listener, OEM, EPG,... ports.
Thanks and Regards.
OS Details: OEL 5.9 64 bit.
The portlist.ini is only interesting just after installation, and there not always an entry.
For instance, after I have done my installation (with listener, OEM), I still have an "empty file".
From the documentation:
"If you change a port number, it is not updated in the portlist.ini file, so you can only rely on this file immediately after installation"
"To find or change a port number, use the methods described in this appendix".
This is Appendix F. I scrolled it down, and don't find where to change and view the actual ports.
It seems to me there is no way to:
- See clearly the values of the ports used and for what component.
- Modify these ports and how.
Mayve I miss something, does someone understand it better?
Kind Regards.

Hello All,
I plan to install and configure Oracle 12c Cloud Control console on a single standalone server and the version is Oracle 12.1.0.5. All the databases which are installed across in the entire farm/landscape are these versions:
Oracle 10.2.0.3 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 10.2.0.4 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 10.2.0.4 Active DataGuard Enterprise Edition
Oracle 10.2.0.5 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 11.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition
Oracle 11.2.0.1 Active DataGuard Enterprise Edition
Oracle 11.2.0.3 RAC Enterprise Edition
All Oracle databases across these versions will use the same version of Oracle Grid since ASM is used for all the Oracle database across Production/Test/Development databases. The OS is RHEL 5.8, RHEL 6.3, OEL 6.3 versions.
When installing the Oracle 12c Cloud Control what is the Oracle and Grid Home directory location need to set to. Please let me know if there are any other additional configurations needed?
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
AbhijitFirst off, the only EM CC release out right now is 12.1.0.2, not sure where you got 12.1.0.5 (DB Plugin maybe?).
Second, you're confusing EM CC homes with DB/Grid homes.
EM CC will need it's own Oracle Home (i.e. /opt/oracle/product/em_12.1.0.2). You will need to provide repository database connection information, but EM does not care what home the db or grid is installed in.
I would recommend reviewing the documentation as well as the references on OTN -

Maximum number of services for Oracle 12c
can someone please give me a hint where I can find the limitations for number of services on Oracle 12c?
In the reference guide I found: maximum number of services per instance = 115
But that cannot be true because you can have up to 252 pluggable databases per database and each one is associated with a dedicated service.
If done some trials and currently I'm at 556 services. But I cannot find a document with the exact maximum.Hi Friend,
Two Types containers are available in Oracle Database 12c
1. The ROOT container - - > This is first container and mandatory container.
2. Pluggable Database Container - - - > This is the container for application
So, Limit is - - > 253 PDBs in a One Container Database (CDB) it includes the SEED also and Services are 512 in a Container Database (CDB).
Check the following query to know the number of services
Select name, pdb from cdb_services;
Hope it helps...

Good computer system for Oracle 12c
Hi,
Presently I have one old PC at my home for learning and testing purpose. Now, it seems me very old and slow, so I am planning to buy a new desktop (Not laptop) for learning and testing purpose. I wish to run Oracle 12c, RAC, Data Gurad, ASM, Cloud control, Oracle linux in Oracle VM Virtualbox. Apart from these, I wish to run SQL Server 2012, Windows Server 2012, dot net 2012 Prof Edition and some other softwares. So, please tell me what should be good enough configurations for the PC i.e. HDD, RAM, Processor, Mother board, so that at least it should be good enough for next 5 years.
Thanks.user12050217 wrote:

Yes, and this is what I am asking that what should I ask them to have in it.
You are being too picky and to be honest, if you are planning to buy a system for practice. this is way too much of being fussy. Ask vendors around your area suggest you for an Intel Core-i7 or Xenon , a motherboard that can support at least 32gb of RAM and hard drive options. Now do NOT ask us to give you links . This is simply being lazy. Search and read reviews from different sites. Make up your mind and go for it. To be honest, I am not sure that why you are stuck up in Intel, AMD when somewhere above, you yourself has mentioned this,
"I guess, Intel's processor and motherboards are the best; of course they are high priced; 45% higher than AMD, but 65% more performance"
So seems like you do have a favorite here. Then what's the fuss, go for it. You are not making a machine to support a 24/7 system on which lives would depend, are you?

Guaranteed restore point Vs catdwgrd.sql downgrade for oracle 12c
I understand that we have two ways to downgrade (assuming compatible parameter is not modified) when we upgrade a 11.2.0.3 database to oracle 12c.
I am curious to know advantages of catdwgrd.sql when compared to guaranteed restore point downgrade. I think guaranteed restore point looks very simple
compared to catdwgrd.sql. Also I think oracle doesn't exactly bring the database back to the same state when we use catdwgrd.sql whereas
guranteed restore point brings us back to the same state.
Thank You
SarayuWhich method you choose will depend on your circumstances. This blog post may help
https://blogs.oracle.com/UPGRADE/entry/is_there_a_fallback_strategy
A third possible option is to simply restore the database from backups

Autoincrement for Oracle 12c?
I would like to have DDL generated for creating an identity column according to the new Oracle 12 syntax when I select the "autoincrement" option under the column settings in the relational model.
E.g. I would like this:
CREATE TABLE identity_test_tab (
id NUMBER GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY,
description VARCHAR2(30)
However, the DDL that is currently being generated uses a trigger and not the new identity syntax even though I have 12c selected for both the relational and physical models. Does SQL Data Modeler support generating DDL with the GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY syntax?Hi,
Does SQL Data Modeler support generating DDL with the GENERATED ALWAYS AS IDENTITY syntax?
Yes. You need to check your settings at "Preferences>Data Modeler>Model>Physical>Oracle" you have a few options there. You can change that at column level in physical model if some columns don't follow the general rule set in preferences.

Debian repository for Oracle XE
Hi,
I have used the Debian repos to install Oracle OCI8 on a test server (i386), but was hoping to deploy this on a production server within my University. The production server arc is AMD64, but the Oracle XE repos is only for i386. Is there any plan to extend this Debian repos to include other arcs?
Thanks,
Gordon Crawford
University of UlsterHi ,Gordon
As I know, ORACLE XE is just for i386, oracle don't provide XE for x86_64 version .
You can install 32bit OS on AMD64 machine. then try to install Oracle XE

Attunity CDC for Oracle Service - Oracle 12c Support
For the Attunity CDC for Oracle service that is bundled with SQL Server 2012 SP1, is there support for Oracle 12c? Or, will there be updates in the near future to support Oracle 12c? If not, are there other solutions for incremental changes between
Oracle 12c and SQL Server?Attunity is not bundled with SQL it is a separate item you need to download and pay for (unless you are on the Enterprise edition of SQL Server).
Regarding the rest of the info: http://www.attunity.com/products/attunity-connect/ssis-connectors-for-oracle-and-teradata says Oracle 6 or HIGHER, so yes, for the updates: Attunity now supports SQL Server 2014.
I am not aware of any other solutions from the Microsoft solution stuck side of the view.

Need Oracle 12c whitepaper recommendation for upgrade assessment
Hi: Good morning!
This is not an urgent request, but appreciate your recommendation! I need documents about Oracle 12c (our os is IBM AIX power system, 6.1, 64 bit), because we are planning upgrade current oracle database 11.2.0.4 to 12c, we need a thorough assessment to 12c since 12c introduced many innovative, new features, major component changes, as well as impact to java application. The document I have so far is-
1. database upgrade guide
http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/UPGRD/preup.htm#UPGRD002
2. Deprecated API (oracle database JDBC Java API Reference)
https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/JAJDB/deprecated-list.html
3. Tom Kytes Top 12 new features for Oracle 12c (from web).
There are many things to look for. I want to know the major things I should focus in new features & impact to java application.
what document can provide me the info!
thank you very much in advance!Hi all:
Can anyone gives me advice after upgrade from 11.2.0.4 database to 12c database, which 'core-DB new features' impact to Java application more, and that we should focus on assessment?
There are too many new & innovative features introduced in 12c. Should I convert our single instance database (on non-cluster server) to 'CDB/PDB' during upgrade? Is it a 'Must-to-do' or not? We have a physical standby DB, how to do with the standby?
Oracle Documents I reviewed are: 'Oracle 12c database document', 'Oracle 12c Java Developer's Guide'. I recommend this to our developers based on 'Oracle 12c Java Developer's Guide':
Oracle JVM ( JDK6, JDK7 support in 12)
[note:need to check jvm components for application: library manager, compiler, interpreter, class loader, server-side JDBC internal driver, server-side SQLJ, translator, system classes; Java stored procedure, SQLJ, JDBC, etc]
2. Oracle Memory Space management ( garbage collection)
3. Multithreading
4. Footprinting
5. Dynamic class loading
6. JNDI class support
7. Auditing for Java ( alert/execute/audit/grant is enabled in auditing)
8. Support for logging
9. Support for customizing default java.security resource
10. Improved for debugging
However, I may lost myself in core-DB new features for:
1. advanced analytics features
2. OLAP features
3. Partitioning enhance
4. Performance for zero effort
5. Compression and Archiving features (depends on application tables design)
6. Database Overall
- Integrate With Operating System Processor Groups
- Oracle Data Pump Support
- Multitenant Architecture (Not sure)
- PDBs Backup and Recovery (Not sure)
- PDBs Point-in-Time Recovery (Not sure)
- PDBs Resource Plans (Not sure)
- Utilities
7. High Availability
- Application Continuity
- Transaction Guard
- Logical Replication
- Global Data Services
- Online Operations
- Oracle Data Guard Enhancements (Depends on our standby design)
8. Manageability
- PGA Size Limit
- Resource Manager Runaway Query Management
- Spot ADDM
9. General
- DBMS_QOPATCH
10. Performance
11. Security enhance
12. Improve Security Manageability, Administration and Integration
- Database vault
Is my above suggestion (text in red-color) correct?
Thank you very much! -

hi,
while i'm installing 12c the pdb check box was enabled and i left it as it is and i didn't create any service entries specifically for pdbs, but the database was successfully installed.
later that i created an user as in the specified format like c## username identified by username it was created and connected in sql*plus too i checked it. but whats the wrong is while installing informatica it will asks for database connectivity .....write? then i'm giving this database credentials but that informatica installation tool is even unable to contact the database.simply it is throwing an error :- the username and password are incorrect and unable to connect to the database. plz reply me any thing you got helpful
thanks & regards,

But you didn't say if you connected to the CDB or the sample PDB nor did you say which component of Informatica you are trying to install (server, repository, client, etc).
It sounds like you haven't completed the Informatica pre-installation steps because part of that is to create a DB user account for the domain configurations and to set the port numbers to use for the node and domain services. So as I said above:
If you can complete step #4 above and connect manually and use the DB manually then your problem is with Informatica and you need to post there.
Since Informatica needs a repository using 'some' database you need to make sure you design your architecture before you just start installing things. For Oracle 12c you will want to use PDBs and not start creating tables and application code in the root.
You need to review the installation requirements for the Informatica component you are trying to install and verify that you meet those requirements.
You should also repost the question in an Informatica forum and verify that Informatica actually supports Oracle version 12c. -
CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169 Patch Availability Document for Oracle Linux
Hi,
Can you suggest from where we need to download bash rpm for OEL 6 :-
bash-4.1.2-15.el6_5.2.x86_64.rpm
bash-doc-4.1.2-15.el6_5.2.x86_64.rpm
Thanks in Advance !!
MukeshFirst see the document I linked about creating a local yum mirror (How to Create a Local Yum Repository for Oracle Linux). I very strongly recommend setting this up so your systems can get other updates besides bash.
The individual RPMs can be found at Index of /repo/OracleLinux/OL6/latest/x86_64/ -- but I cannot stress the importance of updating entire systems rather than just bash. If you are not updating your systems periodically, bash is just one of your worries (as you're undoubtedly vulnerable to hundreds of other exploits in other packages besides Shellshock). Please set up an update repository and use it.
Patching only the vulnerabilities you see in the news is equivalent to locking your home's front door, but leaving the security alarm disconnected and the back door held open with a doorstop. You need all the updates, not just bash.
