It'll be good if the option for search btw file or via web when highlight text.
If highlight URL, option go straight to browser.
If highlight number, option to call.
If highlight email, option to email account.
Any ideas?

Do not find the option for windows when I press the the option key during restart, since I downloaded Lion

I still do not find any option for windows when I restart my mac when pressing the option key. It used to go to windows when I pressed the option key during a restart but since I have downloaded Lion, it always go to mac. I do not want to make a permanent switch. ANy suggestions on how to get back to using the option key?

You probably need to reinstall your Windows machine.
I'm not certain, but I have a feeling the install of Lion wipes it out, going by the number of threads started along similar lines since Lion's release.

Feature request: better tools for commenting and editing text

We currently use a comments-enabled Acrobat workflow with InDesign to track changes to our large catalog project. Was hoping to move our team over to CS Live, but currently the commenting tools are sub-par, and not accurate enough for extensive text editing. My request would be to imitate the text editing functionality of Acrobat:
In CS Live online:
- allow users to be able to copy selected text. (This is useful when a reviewer wants to be able to modify a sentence or paragraph. It's a headache now to have to retype the sentence prior to making modifications)
- Ability to highlight text and hit "delete" to mark text as deleted, or highlight and type over to indicate replaced text
- Ability to click to insert text, and have the comment appear with the inserted text designation (little blue carat like in Acrobat)
- ability to highlight a section of text
In InDesign:
- ability to copy the text in a comment and NOT copy all the other extraneous meta data. (Currently, if you click "copy text", it will copy the comment along with all the details about the comment. For example, "- Amy Stewart [10.06.11 at 12:56 PM]"
- ability to see in InDesign the EXACT part of the text that needs to be modified. Right now, the red box outlines the general area. The CS Review panel shows a tiny thumbnail with black highlight over the area of text that needs to be changed, but unfortunately, there's no way to zoom in on it, so you're stuck having to toggle between InDesign and the online review, where it's possible to zoom. (This diminishes the utility of the CS Review panel.)
If you were able to incoroprate all the commenting functionality of Acrobat, I think you'll have a winner. But right now, we're going to have to stick with Acrobat as it's the only way to easily modify text.

Sorry if I might be stating the obvious (but at least I was such a *dummy* once that I needed this explicitely):
In order to move the sequence of images per drag&drop in grid view you need to
Put the sort order in the bottom toolbar to "user order" (toggle visibility with letter T if not displayed)
Grab an image from within its thumbnail, not from its border-cell.
When you move around you see a vertical black thick line wandering in between images where you would be able to drop it
Put the images first into a collection in case they should be spread across multiple folders.
This is the reason why most often from a filter result you cannot re-arrange.
Still sometimes it does not work as I want, but can *be persuaded*, i.e. I repeat the same trial after first moving to another collection, then return back. I can't nail it down sufficiently to file a bug.
For an automated sorting according to filename (chosse that setting finally in toolbar) you could rename the photos in place, without exporting & re-importing. Just select them and hit <F2> to bring up the renaming dialog like possible during import.
+1 vote from me, as I am neither satisfied with the responsiveness of moving folders within LR e.g. from laptop hard disk to NAS.
Apart from that I try not to build much on my folder structure, just break them into manageable quantities and have a quick "diary-overview" by using naming convention "YYYY-MM-DD description of event" (pictures of up to 4 cameras go inside, unique filenames for Canons achieved by renaming during import). For all the rest I prefer to build (smart) collections.

Changing the hightlight color for all existing highlighted text

Never mind I found it. Open the Comment panel, select all existing comments, right-click and select Properties, change to your desired setting, click OK.

When highlighting text and searching with Google, even though my default browser is Chrome, it searches with Safari. How do I change that?

Using iMac and Maverick OS. I have Chrome as my default browser. I find that going to System Preferences/General under default browser, I note that Chrome is chosen as default, yet the browser "above the line" is Safari and Chrome, while checked off is "below the line". In other words, the top listed browser is Safari which is unchecked with a line underneath, even though all the other browsers are listed below the line and only Chrome has a check mark.
When I am on a website and I select words to search in Google, it always searches with Safari instead of Chrome. How do I change that?

Thanks for your response. I think it was my error in that I did not define the problem properly. Indeed Chrome is my default browser. And Maverick does not have a "next line" to default to Google. I can do that in the Chrome settings.
My problem is that when I am in another application.....and it is apparently an application native to Maverick....for example Contacts or Calendar, Reminders, Notes, etc., if I highlight a word or phrase, and right click and choose "search with Google", it defaults to Safari. How do I change that?

ICloud deleted my contacts but i can still see them when i search for them when im texting... how do i get my contacts back?

I tried out iCloud today and it took away all my contacts...and no i did not set up time machine
when i searched online to see what the problem was all i got was "back up the device" or "turn the contact button off and on in iCloud and then hit merge"
I did all of that but my Wi-Fi at my college ***** whale so i cant "merge" my contacts even though im pretty sure backed it up already 2 times with the contacts switch in the on position meaning that my contacts must be gone...
but theres hope when i was texting i searched a name in the "contact search bar" and all my contacts are still there!

Requested feature (comments?) - search within DB for a packa

hi, i just got thinking about this after failing to look for a package containing a particular binary (ie. basically trying to figure out which package i should -S; see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?p=25647 for more info) - do u think that such a feature could be incorporated into pacman?
much like '-Qo' - but probably less 'strict' on the 'path' thing (ie. if i want to find out which packages provides the 'dig' binary, it's ok if i just specify 'dig', instead of say '/usr/bin/dig' - since i may not know the exact path) - and possibly allowing for grep patterns as well (basically just a grep anyway through the filelist).
Caveat: I recognize though, that for this change to be made, changes must be made to the info that stored in the local database as well (currently, it seems to store only rudimentary info like "depends", and a short "desc", comprising "name", "version", "desc", and "md5sum"...
what do u guys think? i think that would be a really useful feature (at least for guys who arent that familiar with the packages yet - or who want to find out if there's a package for 'such-and-such')

My problem sometime is to understand a certain file, that is not in the system, to which package belong
In this case pacman -Qo is unuseful.
I know that is impossible having ALL possible package contents in the system but this can be done for official and extra and eventually extended to all the repository that are configured in the local pacman.conf by downloading a complete database of the filelist.
But this has also a drawback. The size of the DB increase considerably. This can be partially solved by adding a unix time as identifier for the version of the repository DB (maybe is already like that), the filelist-repository DB is downloaded separatly on user command and is built having has version identifier the same timestamp repository.
In this way you can download separatly the filelist-repository DB only if you need it.
And evetually during an interrogation pacman can give a warning message like
Some of filelist-repository DB are outdated
extra has been created on 1 May 2004 12:25.24 and filelist-repository DB is of the version 25 April 2004 10:00.19
In this way the user can decide if is the case to update the filelist or not, maybe if the difference is only of 10 minutes it is not realy necessary

FEATURE REQUEST: Email options for fighting SPAM and reading...

OKAY: Yahoo has it, Gmail has it, Hotmail has it.... why not the iPhone? I don't want it downloading images in my emails unless I say so.... often, I accidently open a spam message on this thing, and now the image bug download has told them it's a working address! Can we please get the protective feature of disabling external image downloading?
Ah, and how about a way to filter out unread emails? And search? And mark as unread? And...
And just ONE MORE icon to put on the toolbar at the bottom of the Springboard? I know there's room..... it's a good spot to put a new "customizable button" that, say, turns on/off Airplane mode? Or opens Settings? Or opens a web link? Or starts a blank email? Hint hint......

I'd like to suggest/request new option for Touch Pad functionality

My name is Shahar. I am a HW eng and I've been using T61 for the past 3 years. It's my work laptop, but I am happy with it. Its way better than my previous cra^#@%#^%!!! Laptop.
I'd like to suggest / request a simple addition to the touchpad driver from the development guys in lenovo. My suggestion is about the usage of the touch-pad.
Currently, the touch pad works like this: I drag my finger on the pad from point (x0,y0) to point (X1,Y1) thus "drawing" a vector , and the pointer moves in the same angle of my vector. The length of that movement is of course depends also on my touch-pad driver configuration.
What I really, really, really, really want is to not have to drag my finger. I wish the touch pad will work in the following manner:
Lets define a virtual middle of the touch pad as point (Xm,Ym), and were I touch the pad as point (Xt,Yt).
I want the pointer to move according to the angle of a vector starting a point (Xm,Ym) and pointing to (Xt,Yt), and I want it to move in a speed which is relative to the distance between the points. Point (Xm,Ym) is where the pointer is now, and point (Xt,Yt) is the direction I want the pointer to move. The pointer should move as long as I keep touching the pad, and stop when I remove my finger.
That's all .
I would have added such an option to the touchpad driver myself if I had the means....
Is this feasible ?
Maybe I can get info on how to communicate with the touchpad ?

I have a couple things I would add as well:
"An option to link/ unlink ALL selected mask layers, instead of having to go down manually doing it on each masked layer." that wouldve saved me literally an hour at work today.
My request is to have a "liquify all" option where you can essentially easily batch all selected masks or layers and apply a saved mesh without having to do it manually.
As a person who professionally uses photoshop for 8 hrs a day every day this feature would save me an easy half hour on many files. It also would cut down on the "mistakes" we make by missing one random but essential mask.
One more suggestion is to enable "warp" in transform to work with the "transform again" command as it is the only one of the forms of transformations that does not allow it.

Option for "Delivery by Highlighted Bullet" not appearing

In trying to have a bullet list appear bullet by bullet, and having prior item dim, I am not able to get the "Delivery by HIghlighted Bullet" option.... Only All at Once or By Paragraph ... am sure its a silly error on my part -- but can't figure it out. Rebuilt slide form scratch and can't get it to work.

How are you creating the bullet list? If you're using a standard text box, then the "By Highlighted Bullet" option doesn't come up for a Delivery method. You have to use one of the master slides that has a bulleted body placeholder. All of the supplied Keynote themes have a variety of master slides with bullets. Hope that helps.

Options for recovery when 'recognize array' is greyed out?

I have an X Raid with all the slots are full with 180MB drives and it's been running as two RAID 5 arrays of 1TB. Yesterday one drive showed a red light, so I shut the system down and re-seated the drive. All seemed well and the software began rebuilding the LUN map. When I cam back to it this morning two lights were red. I shut the system down, checked all the connections and brought it back to life, one side is now not recognised as an array - all the drives are green, but listed as 'spare'. I've swapped the drives to see if the controller is at fault, but this has no effect, and 'recognize array' is greyed out as an option.
As the drives are not being seen as an array there seems to be nothing you can do - are there any further steps that can be taken, or do I just have to accept the data loss?

The same sequence of events that you describe happened at a site I support recently, unfortunately in that case you are looking at recreating the array that is listed as hot spares and recovering from your backup (you do have a backup don’t you?).

As Donald has already said you don’t shut down the RAID if a drive fails or shows a degraded state. If you don’t have a spare handy act quickly and order one asap. When it arrives swap the drives and watch it rebuilding in RAID Admin. If the drive has failed or is degraded the controller will rebuild the data on that drive from the striped parity data that is stored on the other drives - that is what RAID 5 does. RAID 5 is the default configuration for XServe RAID and as such offers you one point of failure. You can configure the RAID as RAID 5 with a hot spare, this configuration offers you two points of failure. The users guide for RAID Admin has more information regarding the different types of RAID configurations that are supported and that can be used.

Best output option for video when doing adr and vocal recording?

I know this topic has come up before on occasion but I wanted to bring it up to hopefully reach a final conclusion.
Does anyone know the best configuration to use for ADR and other vocal recording in Logic when the mic and screen are in a separate room? The options I've seen so far are:
- Send video via DV firewire to a converter box and then to a monitor. With limited firewire ports already in use for the audio interface and dsp units, has anyone tried daisy chaining or using a firewire hub for dv output to a monitor?
or
- Use a DVI splitter to run to a 3rd LCD monitor(as a 2nd one is already in use) so the regular 'video window' could be dragged across to appear on the vocalist/actor's monitor.
These are the only choices I've seen seen so far but if anyone has any other's or recommendations on which of these to go for, I'd love to hear them.

Can't automatically open a message for reading when highlighting

I just transferred all my files from my iMacG4 to my new iMacG5. Occasionally, when I open the mail, and it downloads, a new email comes in, flashes in the inbox briefly, then disappears. If I shut down the mail program, then re-open it, the mail is there. This had just begun happening on the G4 before moving the files, too.
Additionally, I used to be able to highlight an email, and whatever was highlighted was open to read. Now, for some reason in the last couple of days, I have to double click on each individual mail to read it and it opens in another window. Can this be fixed?

Trying to figure out best way to convert audio (mp3 or mp4) files to text. Right now I'm transcribing by hand interviews but have hundreds of hours and this is getting old
I found MacSpeech Scribe. Is this a good option? How accurate is it? Is there an open source option or another way to do this that I haven't found yet?

ORA-03001 "unimplemented feature" error for SQL when using view

Our ERP allows us (IT staff) to create Information Access Layers which are basically views. These can be "live" where the view is like your tradiitonal one or non-live, where a table of data is replicated on a schedule and a view is available over that table.
The following SQL runs fine with a non-live IAL but gives an ORA-03001 error when using a live one.
Any ideas why please? We are using 9.2.0.6
