Required patch for BDB 4.7.25 that Oracle refuses to post

I would like to know why Oracle continues to refuse to post the patch necessary to make BDB 4.7.25 workable (at least in my experience). You can find the patch at:
http://www.openldap.org/devel/cvsweb.cgi/~checkout~/build/db.4.7.25.patch?rev=1.1.2.1&hideattic=1&sortbydate=0
Note that this patch was provided by Oracle.
Any user of OpenLDAP we have who tries to use BDB 4.7 finds it unworkable without this patch, and we have to continue to direct users to use it, since they of course don't find it on the Oracle download site. It would seem to me that such a critical patch would be released to the public at large on Oracles site, instead of being generally unknown.

Again, we apologize for the confusion.
The patch is now available on OTN. The delay was due in part to the time it takes to test and validate an issue and the fix. The OpenLDAP team was graciously helping us do that (as is common in open source development) which is why they had an early copy of the patch.
[patch.4.7.25.2|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/db/update/4.7.25/patch.4.7.25.2] addresses ITS#5707 SR#16415 "DB_ENV->lock_get may self deadlock if user defined locks are used and there is only one lock partition defined." and should be used rather than the similar patch within the OpenLDAP CVS archives.
If in the future there is a similar discrepancy or any confusion please email me or Ashok directly and we will work to address it promptly.
cheers,
-greg

  • ALL Required Patches for EBS 11i AIX

    Hi Everyone,
We have an on-going (UAT) user acceptance test for a new setup EBS 11i on Aix 5L, for FINANCIAL MODULES(GL,AP,AR,CE,FA).
Currently, we still encountered error or bugs and need to apply some patch one by one.
What I want is a proactive way, which is a one time application of all the patches needed to run EBS 11i error free.
Where can I find the recommended list of all patches that should be applied on EBS 11i, and
How do I reconcile it with the output of the following....

  • Required Patches for 11.1.1.2.0 release

    Hi All,
Currently we are using Hyperion Planning & Essbase 11.1.1.2.0

I recommend you patch to 11.1.1.3 and then as John G says review the patches for 11.1.1.1.3 -- you may download the 11.1.1.3 media from edelivery.oracle.com and there will be an option to apply the patch on install. High level steps are extract software like normal 11.1.1, stop services, install update, re-deploy. After that patch for 11.1.1.3
Please note IE8 is only supported on the 11.1.1 line using 11.1.1.3 and patches.

  • When I try to play stuff I get a message saying I require HDCP for playback! what's that?

So disappointed with Apple TV, just bought it and it won't work, I can use YouTube on the tv, but not from my iPad.
I can't play videos from iPad as it keeps telling me that I require a HDCP for play back.  I have a top of the range HDTV set up.
Also, it only works when my iTunes is on my computer.  I have set it up as by the instructions.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I can't play videos from iPad as it keeps telling me that I require a HDCP for play back.  I have a top of the range HDTV set up.
HDCP is a copy protection protocol. Content that contains HDCP protection requires that all devices are HDCP compliant, if your TV isn't compliant or isn't telling the iPad that it is compliant the movie won't play.
Also, it only works when my iTunes is on my computer.  I have set it up as by the instructions.
If you mean it will only play content from your library when iTunes is running, then that is quite normal, you wouldn't expect the Apple TV to be able to read a library that isn't turned on would you.

  • [Answered] List of patches for Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit!

    Hi All,
Installation document for 10g Release 2 (10.2) for Solaris Operating System (SPARC 64-Bit) does not mention anything about patches required on Solaris 10 (there is a list for Solaris 8 and 9).
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15690/pre_install.htm#sthref110
Can I safely assume that the installation of Solaris 10 contains all the required patches in this case?
    Thanks,
Edited by: Satish Kandi on Nov 19, 2008 10:21 AM

    Hi Satish,
I did not have access to ORACLE metalink so could not able check the doc which you reffered. But Checked the ORACLE installation doc, I suppose that is the required patches for 8 and 9 which you have to make sure of on Solaris 10.
Other wise wait and see for other inputs too.
Hemanth might reply back some thing.

  • Patch for updating Help link

    Hi,
My requirement is that I want to know whether there is any patch to get the 'Help' option to work correctly in Forms&OAF pages. By 'work correctly', I mean , is any patch available to make the Help page open correctly?
Now, when I click on Help link in OAF pages or Help-> Help window , sometimes I am facing the issue of:
    1) getting HTTP 404 error (An error occurred while retrieving Oracle Applications Help information.
Help target could not be found. )
    2) the oracle applications help page opens giving us the option to search .
Is there any way to link the help link to the correct page? I have seen, for most of the pages, help page is opening correctly.
In some of the pages, help option is not enabled. I know 'Help' link can be enabled by personalisation but is there a patch to solve all these issues I have mentioned?

For standard pages -> You don't need to write any code, there will be a doc patch for each module, your DBA or Oracle can help you get the exact patch number for the product you are using.
For Custom Pages-> You would need to implement the documentation/content and use the standard procedure for deploying these to the env.

  • Oracle Patches for Installing Oracle9i R2 on RedHat8 ?

I have downloaded disk1, disk2, and disk3 files from site:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html
I have been told that Oracle 9i requires a patch available only from Metalink for it's successful installation on RedHat 8.0, Is it correct.
If so how do I install these patch?

I have been told that Oracle 9i requires a patch available only from Metalink for it's successful installation on RedHat 8.0, Is it correct. This is (officially) an unsupported configuration, so I don't think Oracle provides patches for it. Generally, how to install a patch is explained in the corresponding README file, which comes with every patch.
See the 'Puschitz' site, how to install:

    Thanks all for your reply.
ya! I can find it in the database patches link.
All I have to do is download the *.bin files and then resume it to a *.zip file and then use the same.

  • Practices for maintaining source code patches for branch of OSS project?

There is this open source project I use and modify for my personal, private use...
I would like some best-practice/practical experience suggestions on methodology/tools to maintain a growing number of source code patches I have created for said software. (FYI It is generally not mandatory that I upgrade to new version of the software when it comes out. Sometimes I will use the version I have for several versions before getting the new one, and re-implementing my changes. And sometimes I don't even implement the changes; I just run it vanilla.)
Currently, I download the latest code from SVN, make my changes to the original code files, and keep track of my changes in a text file, which I then dutifully reference to re-create them when I feel like re-synching with the official version. What I would like to have instead is a separate base of code that contains just my modifications, and somehow include/import it as painlessly as possible whenever I get a new version of the official code from SVN.
What's the best way to go about it? That's why I'm here.
I realize these situations rarely, if ever, work out perfectly, and I can deal with that. I just want to improve on how things are, now, in anticipation of where I can see them going!
I have some ideas about how to implement this, but they are of the "naive" variety and I think any tips I could get on method or tools to use would go far. I mean ... is it as simple as declaring new versions of affected methods in my patch code and marking them "overrides"? Also, probably a dumb question but will SVN that will help me do this?
Thanks for reading, and any response.
PS - Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I am just looking for general, tip-of-the-iceberg type tips/links, so I figured folks could drop a quick answer here. TY!

The patch program on *nix or Cygwin does exactly what you want, and you can create the patchfile using either Subversion or CVS (and any other source control system that provides a diff).
Here's the article that I always turn to to create a CVS Patch (I have to relearn patching every time I do it): https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_a_patch
And here's the equivalent from the Subversion FAQ: http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html#patch
When I've worked for companies that did local patches, we kept a separate source-control repository/module that held our patches for the various OS libraries that we used. When we'd upgrade, we'd apply the patches and verify they made sense (if you have a lot of patchfiles, this can be a royal pain). And most important, once we had a patched upgrade, we generated a new patchfile from it (because, again, patchfiles become obsolete, and trying to apply a patch from several versions back can sometimes be impossible).
And of course we submitted any bugfixes back to the projects...

  • Smpatch and Recommended Patches for Solaris 10

    Hi,
Is there any way to make smpatch only retrieve recommended patches for Solaris 10 ?
I've seen several forum posts saying to use
    smpatch set patchpro.patchset=recommended
but other posters indicate that this only works for Solaris 9 (additionally, it doesn't seem to work at all currently:
Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve recommended.zip: Not Found )
As far as I'm aware, Sun's patching policy is to apply the Recommended patches, as well as any that address specific issues you are having. This seems to contrast with the behaviour of smpatch which grabs all patches..

    Hi.
Depending on your hardware, you can use the following in place of 'current' in patchpro.patchset to get recommended patches:
    sunu45 = Sun Ultra45/Ultra25 Recommended
sftxk = Sun Fire T1000/T2000 Recommended
    sfv2x5 = Sun Fire V215/245 Recommended
    sfv445 = Sun Fire V445 Recommended
    Mod.

  • LDAP Patch for 10.1.0.5 on Linux?

Ok, I've about given-up on OIC 10.1.0.5 under Linux86 unless someone knows of a patch for 10.1.0.5 that fixes the bug that causes this OID-LDAP failure:
[15-JUN-2006 11:18:59:996] nnfloiddisco: OID discovery function failed with code 89
    [15-JUN-2006 11:18:59:997] nnflgcp: can't get config parameter DIRECTORY_SERVER_TYPE
Anyone know of such a patch on Metalink?
I've already searched but can't find anything.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks Laurenz.
I have opened a Service Request with Oracle and they are putting in my request for a patch to 10.1.0.5.

    Bob

  • Tasks that require ROOT for RAC DBA

Our Networking Team and Applications Team are going through some growing pains. We are trying to resolve what permissions should be given to a RAC DBA. Our RAC DBA is responsible for Oracle Clusterware, Oracle Automatic Storage
Management and Oracle RDBMS software. The OS, Server and Storage Subsystem are the responsibility of the System Administrator. We have the following Environment:
    Production and Test (RAC)
Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 2
Oracle Clusterware 11.2.0.2 -- Grid Infrastructure
    Oracle ASM 11.2.0.2
    Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 EE
    Development (Single Instance)
Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 2
Oracle ASM 11.2.0.2 -- Grid Infrastructure
    Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 EE
As the RAC DBA, I have identified the following areas that require ROOT for RAC and Single Instance DB's; however, I understand there may be more:
    diagcollection.pl
    - diagnostic tool for Oracle Clusterware and may be requested by Oracle Support
    ocrconfig
    - to repair ocr configuration issue (add, replace and remove requires root)
    srvctl modify
    - required root to change ip address
    tar
    - TAR Grid Infrastructure Directory structure preserving files with ROOT ownership
    cluvfy
    - cluvfy fix it scripts need to run as ROOT
    - some cluvfy commands under 11gr1 would only run properly for -post cfs check as ROOT in our last installation
    ASM Libraries
    - ROOT required to install and configure ASM libraries
    fdisk - l
    - this is used to see disks attached which is relevant when ASM disks are not mounted
    /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm
    - oracleasm loading configuration file
    /usr/sbin/oracleasm
    - to make disks available to ASMLIB (scandisks etc.)
    /usr/sbin/asmtool
    - asm config tool due to bug
    asm cluster file system
    - some commands require ROOT (mounting etc.)
    - acfsutil
    /var/log/messages
    - loading errors ohas and oracleasm would be logged here
    cvuqdisk
    - needs to be loaded for new install
    root.sh
    - script needed to run at install, upgrades and patching
    oraInstRoot.sh
    - script needed to run at install
    rootupgrade.sh
    - upgrade script
    roothas.pl
    - upgrade script
    ocrcheck
    - check for ocr corruption
    - corrupt check portion requires ROOT
    - oracle local registry
    Grid Infrstructure
    - .runInstaller from Grid Infrastructure
    - includes upgrades
    asm configuration assistant (asmca)
    - configuration of asm diskgroups
    - vol mgr for asm disks
    ocrconfig
    - ocr configuration tool
    - ocr import
    - ocr export
    - oracle local registry
    ocrdump
    - used to check ocr backup file
    - oracle local registry
    opatch
    - patching grid control requires ROOT
    crsctl
    - Startup and Shutdown Oracle Clusterware, Oracle ASM and Database/Instance
    - restore voting disk
    - restore ocr
    - set log for dynamic debugging
    - check install periodically
    srvctl
    - modify nodeapps (ex. ip address change)
    - add filesystem (acfs)
What other items would a RAC DBA need to have ROOT access for?

I'd like to say at the outset that this is a scenario and I am NOT in anyway choosing who does what. A simple -- not so simple -- discussion of roles and responsibilities and associated privileges. If you say that the System Administrator is managing the Grid Infrastructure then this would include all Clusterware and Storage Management (ASM) activities. The System Administrator would manage the OCR and Voting Disks, backups, integrity checks etc. The DBA would then only be responsible for adding the storage within the database itself like assigning tablespaces that reference ASM Disk Groups. This doesn't mean that the DBA can't see the ASM information in the database. The major challenge seems to give your DBA access to the OS, networking and storage tools to preliminarily investigate what they believe to be a OS, networking or storage issue. Without this crossover, your System Administrator may be doing work that is unnecessary. A DBA should have clear understandings of what performance the storage system, cpu, memory and networking should be providing and access to the tools that allow them to understand what side of the fence an issue resides.
There seem to be choices for an organization.
    1) Is there a position called RAC DBA or is the RAC portion managed by the System Administrator.
    2) If a RAC DBA exists then what should the System Administrator be responsible for
    3) What access is need for an existing RAC DBA?
    4) How will access privileges be given to the RAC DBA?
    5) other considerations regarding security?
I agree that there needs to be crossover regarding handling workload and issues. The agreements on roles and responsibilities shouldn't stop the crossover but they should help in understanding who is ultimately responsible for certain areas of the system and application.
If this isn't happening at organizations then how is it handled? or not handled?
