Requirements management Apex application

Hello Everyone,
I am interested if anyone has developed a basic requirements management tracking app. in Apex? If so would you share, if not does anyone know of one that is free?
I am starting work on a very small project, but it would be nice to have an application that could capture requirements and maybe tie them to tasks or documents.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Kyle

Thanks Vikas for the suggestion.
Actually I have been modifying the Issue Tracker sample db for a while now, hmmm.... never really looked at it to capture project requirements though.
Well, I guess it's time for creative re-thinking and some minor tweaking of that db.
Thanks again
Kyle

Is there Oracle documentation on configuring an APEX application to accept a login id passed by Oracle Access Manager? Would someone please help with some instructions on how to do it. Thanks.

    Hi Ravi,
this looks like a WLS issue.
1-You can try as a workaround to remove this validator configuration in taglib definition file: .tld and see the behavior.
2-Or you are missing something into url.
    I hope this helps,

  • Asset Manager Packaged Application

    Hi,
I need to get a copy of the Asset Manager Packaged Application but it has been removed from the Packaged Applications page
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/apex/application-express/packaged-apps-090453.html
Does anyone have a copy of the demo on apex.oracle.com that I can get to?
    Many Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Moe,
APEX 4.2.2 is not missing a packaged application - the "Asset Manager" package application has not been scheduled for release yet.  Although that packaged application name was referred to on Marc's slide deck, it has not yet been made available.  Please note the safe harbor slide, slide 3, in that slide deck, which essentially states that the information contained in the slide deck is not a commitment to deliver.
All packaged applications available in your instance are listed under the "Packaged Applications" tab. During an upgrade process, any new packaged applications will be added to that list.  You don't need to do any additional steps during an upgrade.  Although "Asset Manager" is not yet available, you may find it useful to review the available applications, where you may find one that meets your requirements.
    I hope this helps.

  • Info : Migrating Apex Application from Non-SSO to SSO environment

    Hi All,
This post is to share my experience while working on APEX. This may be useful to some apex developer.
If we migrate an apex application from a non-sso (i.e. http) to sso (i.e. https) environment, the flash chart doesn't work.
I found that in the source of a Flash Chart region, we use #HOST# variable to locate the swf file. The environment variable takes the correct path but with "http" as prefix. But to access application pages "https" is used. Because of which, the swf file couldn't be located by the application.
Work-around Solution : If I hard code the value i.e. the application path having "https" replacing #HOST# variable then the flash chart works fine. I couldn't found a way by which the #HOST# parameter value can be updated to take "https".
The same environment host other non-sso applications as well.
Any comments on this are welcomed.
    Regards,
    Mangal

    Hi Dirk,
    Thanks for the reply.
As I mentioned earlier, by Non-SSO I mean "http" and by SSO I mean "https". This is because, before migration the application was accessible using "http" and now we have to use "https" alongwith SSO to access the application. I only want to highlight the Flash Chart issue with this migration.
The problem doesn't solves with your solution as I am getting correct instance/environment name with #HOST# but prefixed with "http" and not "https". Hence the application won't be able to locate the required swf file.
Even the workaround I mentioned is only feasible, if an application has only few Flash Charts. However, if there are large no. of Flash charts in an application, then it would be a tedious task to update all flash chart source either by an application item (as you mentioned in your post) or hard coding the path itself. Also, every new Flash Chart source needs to be updated by a developer to fix this.
A better solution is required by which the Flash chart source is not touched and the #HOST# variable for the application is updated to take the "https" prefixed to the swf file path.

  • APEX application development with an existing data model

    Dear all,
We - as a company - are trying to build an application in ApEx with an existing data model. The idea is that the data model that has all sorts of TAPIs and business rules defined is going to be re-used in an ApEx environment. I am actually wondering whether this is possible, wise, feasible. When I am building some simple pages on one specific table, which has approx. 35 fields, sometimes the triggers around that table fail. Before I am actually going to dive in to try and sort these problems I am wondering whether this use of a data model in an ApEx environment is wise.
I mean, when you build an ApEx application there are usually no triggers and TAPIs available. My logic is that the ApEx application can look after validation and stuff.
Does anybody experienced have anything smart and useful to say about this. Any feedback is appreciated.
    Kind regards,

    Hey vik,
At my company we rarely use the standard APEX wizards because of multi-linguility (on data level) and error management issues.
We always create an API in PL/SQL and call the procedures for APEX making APEX the 'view' layer in a kind of model-view-controller architecture.
The main thing to keep in mind is maintainability, if you're working with an existing datamodel with an API that works it's probably best to just created forms and reports through APEX and then calling the appropriate pl/sql (packaged) procedure manually. We believe that this kind of architecture has the downside of being a little more work initially but it's much easier to maintain large projects through a self written API and take care of issues like error handling, logging and multi-linguility through a self written API.

  • SSO for Oracle Apex application

    Hi All,
I am working on the requirement where the client want to implement the SSO for the apex application which are in different workspaces.
But not using oracle SSO server :(
The Microsoft active directory is used for authentication.
Please give me some idea how to implement SSO for these apex applications.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Prutha

    Hi,
I am trying to implement Single-Sign On for my Apex applications. Below are the requirement steps:
This is working fine within same WORKSPACE and on single DB, but I need to implement SSO across DB with different workspaces.
    1. I have *2 Databases* DB-1 and DB-2. Both are different and running on different machines.
    2. On Both DB's Apex is configured.
    3. I have to deploy an app which uses internal Application Express account credentials for Login on DB-1
    4. From DB-1, after login, I have to provide a link to open another Apex App deployed on DB-2
    5. All Apex Apps on both DB's are using same Authentication Schemes.
    6. In both DB's I have PAGE SENTRY function for session validation.
Can we configure Apex only once on both DB servers like RAC. Do we have any admin setting in Apex by which we can achieve th motive.
Please help me to implement such functionality using only Apex across different DB's and different Workspaces.
    Thanks,
    Ismail

  • Best Practice for implementing dual APEX applications environment

    Question:
We are in the early stages of building an APEX application for Oracle SaaS consumption. The question I wanted to ask you is what would be the best way to deploy this app for production? Would it be easier just to create a new workspace in apex.oraclecorp.com and export the app definition or create a new instance of APEX container? Also, if we were to create a new container then what are all the hardware/middleware required?
    Follow up questions:
    1. What are you building and for what purpose?
We are building an application for oracle employees (development, operations, and support) to assist in interacting with the CRM Saas environments. Entering bugs, tracking patch level, obtaining relevant environment contacts & urls.
    2. Who will be installing this application? Oracle customers? In their own on-premise APEX instances? Oracle Cloud?
For the foreseeable future, there will only be the one internal install for internal use (CRM SaaS Enablement Team, DevOps).
    3. What are the database and APEX version requirements you'll have for this application?
We do not have a particular requirement. The latest GA version would be the best candidates.
    4. Is it safe to say that there is minimal understanding & experience of APEX on your team?
All we know is self-taught and from forum responses. Part of the problem we face is that we don’t know how to frame the questions in a way they can be understood.
APEX container - By this I mean a fully functional APEX environment where applications can be deployed to.
Use Case - We want to be able to make our Apex app available to the consumer (see above) and also continue to develop new features into that app for use at a later date. We are asking for information about a development model that works well for Apex apps.
    Thanks!!

Moved the question to the internal Oracle forum:

  • How to restore or backup Apex application from Command line ? URGENT

We have Oracle apex 4.1 installed in Oracle 11g R2 database (windows 64-bit) 2008 R2
For some reason our database dictionary objects are corrupted.
We wanted to backup our Apex applications in some workspaces ASAP.
We are not able to access apex from http://localhost:7777/pls/apex/htmldb_login
We have an underlying database schema export (expdp).
    1) Is there a way to export or backup the apex application without logging into the apex URL ? if yes how ?
    2) Does Oracle has any of its own native tool to backup and restore from command line ?
    Thanks in advance

My (MS Windows) experience, if I may; perhaps you'll find something useful.
You'll find the README.TXT file in /apex/utilities directory. Read it.
In order to use APEXExport, you need JDK version 1.5 or higher. Check your version by typing (and viewing the result):
    C:\>java –version
    java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode, sharing)Its directory should be part of the PATH environment variable: on my computer, directory name isC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\binFurthermore, Oracle JDBC class libraries must be part of the CLASSPATH environment variable. Check whether it exists (in Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment Variables). For my 10gXE, it is here:C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jarI couldn't make it work; didn't know that ".\" directory must be entered into CLASSPATH as well (found that information in Arie Geller's book). Therefore, my final CLASSPATH version is:.\;C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jarOK, setup is done. Now, go to your /apex/utilities directory and, from the command prompt, run (mind the upper case!)java oracle.apex.APEXExportwhich will show a short help.
I chose to export the whole workspace. In order to do that, I need the workspace ID (got it from Apex's SQL Workshop; that might be a problem as you can't get there, can you? I can't tell how to find that information apart from SQL Workshop, but I'm pretty sure someone, who is much more experienced than me, will know it). OK, here's how you find it:select v('WORKSPACE_ID') from dual; Finally, here's the final step - export:C:\apex\utilities>java oracle.apex.APEXExport -db localhost:1521:xe -user scott -password tiger -workspaceid 1038408092496568The result are fxxx.sql files (where "xxx" represents application number).
I hope you'll manage to export your applications; basically, nothing special here (except that ".\" directory in the CLASSPATH variable).
    Best of luck!

  • Session state variables across multiple ApEx applications

We have a suite of loosely integrate ApEx applications that all share a common authentication scheme. When you first log in we attempt to load a series of session state variables with temporary data to streamline various logging and authentication related activities for the life of the session.
However, these session variables seem to disappear when you move from one application to another, so they are not truly tied to just the "session" which carries over across all applications, but the application from which the session state is set.
What is the suggested way, keeping in mind that the data being held may have security related context, to preserve values during a session, but regardless of which ApEx application you are in.
The method we are using to share the authentication is using a common "Cookie Name" from a common subscribed authentication scheme as suggested elsewhere on this site and seems to work very well outside of this specific issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Barney

Apologies for the delay getting back on this.
My use of the word "disappear" was probably misleading. They were not visible from the second application. When setting "Session State" I was under the impression that it was setting it for the authenticated session, not for the specific application. (I am referring to the: apex_util.set/get_session_state).
Your solution will work fine, as long as I know which application the user last authenticated against. However, it could be one of over 30 (and growing) different applications which would require me writing a program to go through every "p_flow" to try and find a valid value every time I need to reference the field.
It would be really beneficial if you could store true Session variables which stay alive for the life of the authenticated session and is available to anything authenticated against that session id. This would streamline alot of cross-application program development.
The "get/set_session_state" is a misleading as it is not a Session value, but an Application value. The Session exists across multiple applications, while this procedure does not.
    Thanks,
    Barney

  • Executing queries in another schema in an APEX application

    Hello all,
I'm using Application Express 2.1.0.00.39 with Oracle Database Express.
Following this post (Re: Including a SQL GUI in APEX applications I made a page that executes users' queries. The user inputs his SQL statement in a textarea and submits the page, then a new region returning the query results is displayed. Actually I did hardly the same as Vikas did here: http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=24317:228:4426360772935581::NO:::
However my needs are very specific: as there will be a lot of users and all users will have their own schema, I need to execute the queries a user inputs in his own schema and not the default parsing schema.
I looked around and found a few solutions.
First, GRANT. But I can't grant the default schema priviledges on all users' schema. It will permit everyone to work on all schemas and I don't want that. I want to force the parsing schema to be the same as the user authentified.
Next, I found that post: Re: how to connect to another user from a named pl/sql block. I tried the EXECUTE IMMEDIATE but it won't work with the CONNECT statement.
Finally I found that post: Change Parsing Schema dynamically? I tried to put the ALTER SESSION in a process. The success message appears, meaning the statement was executed successfully. But the query in input is still executed in the APEX default parsing schema. Then I tried to put the ALTER SESSION statement in the Report (which is a PL/SQL function body returning a SQL query), like that:
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA=:APP_USER';
    RETURN v('P2_QRY_TEXT');
    END;
    It didn't work either.
What should be the best practice for my problem? Is there anyway to do what I want?
    Thanks,

    Re-thinking my solution:
Instead of having the package for each user, make 1 schema hold the package (whichever represents your system and not a user). Then declare the package to run as AUTHID CURRENT USER, which should make the calling schema's privileges be active. That way you avoid the hassle of having the manage 1 package for each user.
User Shema ===(SQL QUERY)==> Your System's Schema ==(QUERY) ===> Your Package w/ Authid Current User ==(Dynamic SQL Execution) ==> END
For your package, you might want to consider implementing/simulating variable argument lists, so that you can provide binds if necessary. You would just match up the binds within the query (using dbms_sql would be the only way, execute immediate does not give supporting query information) to the corresponding arguments.
I'm not sure what your goal is, but at least you have a direction to run in/at.

  • Executing APEX_INSTANCE_ADMIN inside APEX Application

    Hi,
I'm having trobule when I try to execute APEX_INSTANCE_ADMIN.SET_PARAMETER from an apex application.( For further information, I'm trying to implement this Re: Changing SMTP server from Apex Application )
    I have the following scenario:
    1) An Oracle Schema associated to an APEX Workspace (with one application inside)
    2) Oracle Schema has been granted with APEX_ADMINISTRATOR_ROLE
    3) If I execute (via SQL Developer) from my Oracle Schema:
    begin
       execute immediate 'ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA = APEX_040100';
       APEX_INSTANCE_ADMIN.SET_PARAMETER('SMTP_HOST_ADDRESS','localhost');

  • Is it legal to create packaged APEX applications and sell them?

Is it legal to create packaged APEX applications and sell them to Oracle DB licensed clients?
    A.

No licensing applies to any environment where you have a live database. The exception is that you can try a product without license, but as soon as development of a product of developing/testing of an in-house solution is done, you need to be licensed. Being a partner changes this slightly assuming all parties involved are partners (one sigle tester from the outside shifts it back to full license mode).
Another situation where license is not needed is to use XE for which no license is required.
Yet one more way to have al low cost is to use Amazon AWS to set up an image with an included license. The cost per hour is really low so it may be a good model to not have to pay everything upfront.
You can also reduce license cost by using named user licensing in development assuming there are few people who ned to access the database. Though there are minimums of number of named user licenses you can have depending on edition of the database.
Overall, knowing your licensing requirements is key. The defense "We didn't know" has been tried before and has not proven to help at all. The cost of an audit will often be a CLM for the person responsible to pay the licenses.
