Resetting up iTunes after a complete re-install of PC back-up

My previous installation consited of:
Windows Vista
User1: iTunes+iPhone 4G+iPod 5g
User2: iTunes+iPhone 4G
Each user was set up as different accounts on the PC, hence was able to run 2 iTunes accounts on one machne.
Some kind of Google Chrome related corruption caused me to cease to be able to connect to the internet via any brand of browser so I had to do a complete back-up and re-install of all files. The back-up simply dumped the entire contents of the hardrive to 230+ zip files with little or no folder structure to speak of. When I re-config's the machine (this time on Windows XP) I was unable to differentiate between User1's iTunes files and User2's iTunes files so I just moved them all into User1's iTunes. The file structure I built is probably not 'factory default' but it was the best I could come up with. Here begins the problems;
Cannot download previos purchases to User1 or User2's accounts. The "view purchase history" in each iTunes shows what was purchased but does not download them when requested.
Had to re-authorise both iPhones even though it was the same machine
Synching User1's iPhone caused loss of data on iPhone (purchases)
Cannot synch photos on User1/2 iPhones with iTunes - it simply does not allow it.
Cannot synch applications on User1/2 iPhones with iTunes - it simply does not allow it.
Cannot register new User2 iPad2 until this is resolved.
Have switched on iCloud for both iPhones and iCloud but no synching has taken place anywhere
User1 iPod lost data on initial synch
I suspect this is all down to the re-install and or the file structure but I don't know for sure. Any advice? I don't see that throwing money at yet another Apple product (Mac) is justifiable in resolving this when Apple built its reputation on user friendly plug n' play.

  • I cant start itunes after i tried to install the new update PLEASE HELP

Every time i try to open it it said iTune.exe - Entry Point Not Found then it said The procedure entry point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll. And i tried re-installing it and it went through but it just wont open.

Hello. No message shown. The downloading does not complete at all, I tried like 20 times but no one worked. The closest I was to downloaded it, was with 66 mb (the new version has 66.1)  As stated on the web page of apple I uninstalled itunes and all its accesories or common programs. Now I am unable to install the new version and I am more frustrating since I did it to sincronized it wit my new ipad!  In consequence, no message at all, the downloading simply stops at 49%, 67% or 99% :(
    Thank you for your time!!

  • Problem syncing ipod nano with itunes after external hard disc install

Since moving the itunes library (without a hitch) to a new external drive we have had a new problem which presumably is linked! When the ipod is plugged in all seems normal at first, the ipod syncs ok, then the system hangs at that point. itunes says "syncing ipod do not disconnect" (Even though the sync icon has vanished from next to the ipod on the itunes screen)likewise the ipod says "Do not disconnect". Windows then opens a "Autoplay" window which is obviously searching for files, with the torch graphic. This continues with the computer frozen. Cancelling the autoplay, leaves it saying "Cancelling" but it doesn't. Ctrl-alt-del is required to stop it, but that causes the computre to actually require a switch off. The fault is obviously with whatever is triggering the "Autoplay", but the ipod correctly lists as drive H, it doesn't seem to be a drive letter confusion. (Unfortunately it is impossible to learn which drive the autoplay is searching, and why, and what it can't find! Is there anybody that can help, as itunes is unuseable with ipod at present. I have tried completely removing and reinstalling itunes/Quick time with no effect!

Recently I transfered my entire iTunes library over to my external HDD
How and what exactly did you transfer?
and completed all of the necessary requirements to be able to play my music back from the new folder location (i.e. changed the location in iTunes preferences and consolidated everything etc)
This should been done before you transferred anything.
Now I have gone to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes and it keeps coming up with an error
What exactly is the error and when do you see it?

  • Trying to sync apps in itunes after a complete computer reboot-

I recently cleaned out and rebooted my Macbook Pro from scratch and am now trying to organize my apps which exist on my iPhone 4S with my iTunes library. We have several Apple products using the same iTunes library, but we manually select which apps go on which device (i.e. my iPhone has a select number of apps that I like, and the family iPad mini has many others).
When I plugged my iPhone into the computer to see what iTunes would do it just showed me my iPhone screenshots on the rights, but not the offering of apps on the left. I was thinking of syncing the iPhone with iTunes then and there but a warning came up to say that it only syncs from computer to iPhone, and not the other way around. I didn't want to wipe out my apps on the phone so I didn't do it. Instead I went into my purchases on the iTunes library and downloaded them all again (I can see the files downloaded in users/Music/iTunes Media/Mobile applications as .ipa files). Not sure if this was the right move because while I could now see almost all of my apps in the iTunes apps window to sync to my iPhone, it seems to want to put ALL OF THEM on my phone at all times.
I've tried to "remove" the ones I don't want, but they seem to come back on my phone anyway. Not sure how to sync or not; I feel that I'm missing a specific command somewhere in iTunes to let me get rid of apps I do not want.
Right now I'm not backing up or syncing my phone with iTunes automatically (although I have played with it since the reboot), but I know I'm missing a step, or made a mistake when loading the apps back in.
    Can anyone help out?
    Thanks

Nevermind, it's restricted that's why it's greyed out.

  • Restore to itunes after a complete wipe?

My nano has the infamous "Use itunes to restore" loop in itunes7. So i have done what has been expected ... the 5 r's. Change drive letters, change cables, change ports, change computers, format, partition, restore, restore, restore. yada yada yada. I have even totally wiped clean my drive and had zeros written and even though I have not yet partitioned or formated I STILL GET THE RESTORE message!!! What is generating this dang message? There is absolutely no software or firmware on the ipod...it's been wiped clean? This, I think is where I am flummuxed! All diagnostics say the drive, the battery are fine. I can read and write to and from the drive as a flash drive. I can even play music from the drive, but the ITUNES software will not load on the ipod and it will not boot up. I have even tried to load linux or rockbox, but both say they cannot patch the firmware. MY confusion is getting the restore to itunes screen when there is no firmware?

Something within the iPod (which may have a short on the logic board or a defective battery) and the computer that is sending an inappropriate configuration error message to the computers you have tried it on. I'd bet it is the battery but I could be wrong. If you have $9 send it to http://www.iresq.com and see what they find on it.

  • Playlists disappeared from iTunes after update. Can I get them back?

All my playlists disappered from iTunes. I'm running Windows7 Pro. I must have lost the playlists after an update. I haven't listen to iTunes for a couple months, mostly Pandora, but yesterday I went back and all my playlists were missing. --- I do remember an update some time back.
I tried to find an answer by Googleing my problem but nothing worked or was applicable. I found solutions that were older and that had tips like "Go under File in the menu bar and import...".
For some reason I neither have File nor a menu bar , nor an import option. I can't even find out what version I have - but you can assume it is the latest because I always click OK when Apple throws an update at me.
Do I have to start over or can I get my playlists back?  ---- I have used an assortment of  media players in the past. Mostly some smaller but brilliant ones and something like this never happened. I'm not sure how I feel about this happing with Apple's iTunes.  Usually I would have thrown it out but I need iTunes for my  iPod and iPad and I'm about to purchase an iPhone. So I can't let this one go.
If I can restore it - or even if not - , I will make sure I do a back-up for my playlists. I have never done a back-up for PLAYLISTs in the last 15 years (!?). But from what I read some people recommended it for iTunes. I would like to add this question to my original problem: how do I make a backup of my playlists? Do you do it too? Is it REALLY necessary - or can I plow on more or less safely for the next 15 years?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.
In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be copied & renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to an earlier state. Look for a recent .tmp file that is similar in size to the .itl files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. If it has happened repeatedly you may want the earliest such file generated since the last iTunes upgrade.
If applicable, see iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor to most since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems in some cases it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any AV scanning process.

  • Itunes won't complete installing?

My itunes won't complete the install process? please help

I tried turning off my anti-virus to no avail. I really have no idea what are they are talking about with "Tools-Downloads" The only place you can do anything is under Help-Check for Updates, and I assumed that was the same thing.
I also tried to email Apple but they need the serial number of my Itunes. How do you find that? I didn't even know Itunes had a serial number.

  • When I turn on iPad it says connect to iTunes after attempting a restore

Been having a bit of trouble with my iPad recently so thought I would do a factory reset to try and fix it. So i put it on to do the reset using iTunes and left the room, only to come back 5 minutes later and see that my iPad is showing the iTunes logo with the USB plug-in image. Which I thought was odd as it was already connected to iTunes in the first place when i left the room...I disconnected and re-connected a couple of times with no luck, however the sound on my laptop was coming through as though the laptop was recognizing the device had been connected but no such luck with iTunes picking it up and recognizing the connection. I then tried turning the iPad off a few times and turning back on to no avail. I then started searching online for answers and solutions about trying to go into recovery mode but the iPad wont. When I press the power down button on the iPad I do not get any 'slider' or anything to swipe as you normally would when you turn off an apple device. When I try holding down the home button on the iPad whilst connecting the iPad to the USB which is connected to my laptop it does not go into recovery mode. But I am still hearing the noise as though the laptop is recognizing the device, it is just iTunes that is not. I do have the latest version of iTunes, as that is what I thought would be the initial problem so I downloaded it but it made little-to-no difference. I believe the system software on the iPad was up-to-date too.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? Been searching online for solutions for the best part of 2 hours now and nothing is seeming to work or make any difference.
If anyone can help I am grateful
    Thanks

UPDATE: I have managed to get it working, after disconnecting and re-connecting over 50 times, iTunes finally picked it up and I have now completed the factory reset and everything is now working as it should

.dmg.part is not a complete file..  It usually indicates that the entire file has not been downloaded yet.  Are you sure you downloaded the entire file?   (i recommend updating itunes through  > Software Update
Alternatively, you can download it from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1614

had a problem with my itunes so i had went on itunes website and reinstall itunes for windows and after it complete it said that the feature yoy are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable i need help please!!!!!!!!!

first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the revo uninstaller http://http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
next download itunes. it worked for me hope this is helpful!!
oonce you get into the revo uninstallergo thru to delete itunes hit uninstall on the itunes icon then you will go thru to it will tell u the same nmessage about the feature and network hit cancell then go thru and hit scan (make sure bthe advance scan button is pushed) this will take awhile but go thru the list and hit everything associated with itunes. hit delete then install itunes again. it worked for me hope it works for you!

  • Impossible instal ITUNES after a manual uninstal

    Sorry for my english...
I uninstalled Itunes from control panel of Windows XP, but it was impossible complete the operation.
So I have delete manually all the files, folder, and all the keys in the register.
Now I try to re-install Itunes, but the installation after few time stop, and open a window that say to repeat the operation, but if I repeat the installatio the situation not change.
If I try with an older version (7) the installation stop because it find newer version. Seems it find something of the previous installation yet.
I tried all the cleaner system (windows, cc, etc) but without result.
I have also tried to re-install Quicktime alone and update the system with Apple Software update, but after download the installation files the installation process stop due to a not indicated error.
    Someone can help me?

Try using the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility to clean up the iTunes installer.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install
Run the Cleanup Utility and remove any entry you find for iTunes.
    Restart your PC
