Resize multiple objects at once

How do I set the height of mutliple objects at once? I'm creating a form and the I want to ensure all the text fields are the some height.

OK...I guess my question stems from wondering how you're creating your Text Frames in the first place, and after that, how you copy and resize them.
When I do this sort of thing, I like to use the Rectangle Frame Tool, then I click in the document and enter the size numerically. Then Option + Drag to create copies. The "Content" parameter for the frames can be assigned now, or later, after you resize them.
I guess what I don't understand is how you're resizing them? You're doing them individually, and manually, to fit the space, right? If you constrain the resizing to horizontal only, you shouldn't have a problem with the height of the boxes changing.
I dunno, maybe I'm missing something from your workflow that presents a special case?

InDesign CS4: I have a group of object frames that I need to resize (I don't care about resizing the content, I know how to do that) and I'm wondering if there's a way to resize them all at once to a specific size. If I group them and resize them it only gives me the group height and width, I want them each to be a specific measurement.
Any suggestions or know plug-ins to help?

How to image trace multiple objects at once on Illustrator CC?

This may sound like a stupid question, but I am having troubles trying to image trace multiple objects all in one go.
I'm currently working on Illustrator CC and I remember this process being a lot easier to do on Illustrator CS5.
I have a typical job where I create client specific barcodes on a separate program, and then bringing them into Illustrator to vectorize.
When I used to do it in CS5, all I had to do was release clipping masks, select all 50 or so barcodes, then Image Trace - and voila, al of my barcodes were vectorized at once - easy.
I now have to vectorize about 120+ barcodes and Illustrator CC is only letting me select & image trace one barcode at a time. There has to be a better way, and I'm hoping someone here can help.
(I would open up CS5 and do it from there, but my work computer was recently replaced with a newer iMac and was only provided with Illustrator CC)

Not sure what your barcode-specific challenges and methods may be, but my general aversion to the image trace feature compels me to suggest that you just create the barcodes in vectors in the first place. I do that using Terry Burton's free online barcode generator.

Changing multiple objects at once

is there a way of setting eg thre end jump for multiple tracks at once - if they all have the same end jump?

Not really, but you can do it another way around...
Make the first track, set the end jump and hen duplicate the track twice. You do this by clicking on the track in the outline view panel, hold the Apple key, press 'D" on your keyboard.
The two new tracks should have the same attributes as the original, including the end jump, menu settings and so on. You can then add the different footage to these new tracks.
But - are you certain you ned two other tracks? Can you not use a single track and put all of your clips into that, then use stories to divide it up?

Need UNDO command to undo multiple objects at once

I'm writing an Illustrator plugin (in actionscript, no C code) that creates a group object and then adds some path items to it. The problem I have is as follows:
If the user tries to UNDO (Ctrl+Z) what my plugin has done, Illustrator will undo each pathItem seperately. I need to mek it undo ALL the pathItems that the plugin have created at once. Can you guide me into the right direction to do it?

Process your objects and add app.redraw(); in the end - should help.
I'd also suggest to put all processing code into external .jsx, and just call required functions from AS. Had a lot of problems with ActionScript recently, and had to convert to javascript after all

In AppleWorks Draw one could just band or shift select a group of objects and resize them.

Hi all,
I'm running InDesign CS5.
I have a bunch of circles over a map, and I'd like to resize all of the circles without changing their position. If I select all the objects and shrink them together, their positioning changes. Is there a way to get around it?

Is there a way to scale multiple objects at once?

I'm trying to select and scale three objects (imported PSD files) at the same time. It seems like it will only scale one at a time (i.e., two of the selected objects do not scale, while the other does). Is there something I'm overlooking, or is Captivate just really deficient in this area?
Alternatively, is there anywhere you can enter a scale percentage manually? I want all of the scaled objects to remain the same size in proportion to one another.

I have three objects (see below) and I want to scale them all at the same time (so they scale proportionally). Something like this is easy in Illustrator or any Microsoft product.
I did find a fix though - apparently if I group them first, I can scale the group, and ungroup the objects after the scale operation. It's not the most elegant solution, but it will do.

Resize Multiple Images at once in Light Table??

I'm wondering if there is a way to resize more than one image white working inside a Light Table? I seem to recall being able to do this, but perhaps I just imagined it.
Does anyone know of a way to do this? If I have a lot of images in my Light Table it becomes a real pain if I want to make, say, 10 of them bigger (and/or the same size) at the same time.

Zak... Selecting one thumbnail > Select all > Delete worked just as you said; it leaves one image behind. I never would have tried that method because logically I would have thought that it would delete all the images since I chose 'Select all'. Resizing multiple tables

I missed the original questions so, I open a new thread to give you responses which alas aren't pleasant.
I have a document with 18 separate/discontiguous tables and they are all a little too narrow. I want to resize them all a little wider to fit their columns.
Is there any way to resize multiple tables at once rather than one at a time?

I have tries using Apple-click to select multiple tables & resize them all at once (like we did in AppleWorks) but when I go to resize the rest become inactive & only 1 resizes.
Why are you using the past to speak of AppleWorks? I do the trick at this time with AppleWorks and I will continue to do it for months.
Am I missing something? Or is this onother one of my unanswerable questions. (That'll make #6)

And here I am trying to change the borders on the tables. I wanna put a cotted line at the bottom of the cells in ALL the tables at once, but ANY changes to all 18 tables at once grinds Pages to a SCREECHING HALT for 30 sec.. Maxing out my 1.6 PPC G5.

The tables are in fact using a quite clone of the one used in Numbers. So, it's a version 1. It's quite normal that we don't find some features available in a program existing since 1991.
Wow. Apple really needs to work on optimizing this thing to work with larger docs if they want to compete with Word.

Simple Script for Multiple Objects?

Someone recently helped me with setting an opacity level for an object using this one line script and binding a keyboard shortcut to it: app.selection[0].transparencySettings.blendingSettings.opacity=50; (Pressing "5" sets the object's opacity to 50%)
Although the script works perfectly for one object, when mutiple objects are selected it only affects the first selected object. Can someone show me how to get this script to affect multiple objects at once?

Thanks for the help man, but what's with the snarky comment? lol. Yeah I use my "5" key daily as well. But in ID it does nothing while in the default context, so why not put it, and the other digits to use to quickly set object opacity? (this function is similar to setting opacity for Photoshop layers by the way).

Insert data into multiple entities at once using a view object

I'm trying to insert data into multiple entities at once using a view object, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. The two entities have a 1:1 association. I created a view object which contains both entities and I made sure they aren't read-only. But like I said it doesn't work, I can't insert data in both entities at once... :(
Is this possible? And how (if it is)?

This is definitely supported and tested. Please send us the exception stack trace. You must running into other problems. A few things to note:
A) You have to mark the entities as both updateable (not read-only) and not reference-only.
B) If you're not seeing an exception stack, turn on diagnostic. Here is how:
To turn on diagnostic, go to the IDE,
1. Select the project.
2. Do right mouse click and select "Project Settings..."
3. On the Settings dialog, select Configurations/Runner.
4. In the righthand side pane, you should see a textbox for "Java
Options". Please add the following JVM switch:
-Djbo.debugoutput=console
Then, rerun. The run command should include
-Djbo.debugoutput=console as in
"D:\JDev9i\jdk\bin\javaw.exe" -Djbo.debugoutput=console -classpath ...
You should now see a lot more output on the IDE's message window. Here you should see the exception stack trace.
If you invoking your app directly from command prompt, just add "-Djbo.debugoutput=console" after your "java.exe".

Pasting multiple objects into frame

Greetings everyone
I was wondering if someone could shed some light on how to best paste multiple objects into a single frame.
Mainly, I'm trying to nest objects that form a part of a newspaper article header; since it's a design element that keeps repeating with each single article I don't want to spend time with manually positioning the elements each time--it's time consuming and prone to sloppiness.
Unfortunately, the base frame will have about three objects that need to be nested within it. Once I paste one object into a frame, the next time I do `Paste into`--the content (previously pasted object in this case) just gets overridden.
I've read that, to paste multiple objects into a single frame, one should group the objects first. Now this works pretty well for getting them into the frame, but leaves me with no options to position them relative to the frame. I can't move or position an object individually and I have no option to ungroup them once they've been pasted.
Here's a small mock-up to depict my peculiar predicament:
Ideally, I'm aiming to have the main header frame to fit the content of the nested objects and for it to be flexible enough that I can quickly span it across multiple columns as per article requirements.

I'm not a working designer or production worker, so anything new takes me longer than I think it should, because I don't have a rich reservoir of quick methods at my fingertips.
Your description above interested me, because I've been wrestling with the annoying limitations of manipulating and adding compound objects in anchored frames. For many situations, it's probably simplest to assemble each iteration of a compound object, that introduces a new element, outside the anchored frame, then group the elements and paste the grouped object into the anchored frame.
However, the arrangement of elements in your example made me think that a table might be a workable solution. The answer I arrived at is "Yes, it's a solution, but it takes a while to set up." If it's reusable easily, then it might be worthwhile investing in a few experiments.
I've attached a zipped idml interchange version of the file, and also a PDF.
Here are some notes:
* I created a table with three rows and three columns, no header or footer rows. Three columns because I thought I'd paste a vertical line into an inline anchored frame in the center cell of the top row, for the separator line. Later, I realized that defining the vertical cell rule as paper color would suffice, so I merged the two right cells on the top row to create a two-column row, with text in each cell and the vertical separator between them.
* I merged all three cells on the second row into a single cell.
* I merged the two right cells on the bottom row, but later, when I moved the cell rule to position the triangular graphic in the inline anchored frame in the right cell, it moved the vertical cell rule in the first row. So, I had to unmerge (or split) the cells, and cut/paste the triangular graphic's anchored frame into the rightmost cell. To position the anchored frame, I moved the vertical cell rule with Shift+Drag, to keep the table width unchanged.
* I sampled the purple color with the eyedropper tool while cells were selected and the swatch panel was set to fill the selected object.
* I didn't spend much time matching the type, as you can see. To position the text, I adjusted the cell margins in some cases, and left/right indention in some cases; I'm not sure which is more efficient in situations where there will be different amounts of text to fit. I didn't create cell styles or paragraph styles (BAH! Bad, bad, bad process) because I won't be repeating this stuff, but you probably will benefit greatly from defining styles for your repeating needs.
* The triangular cut into the bottom row made it easy to manage creating and positioning the graphic. A non-geometrical object might be trickier. The triangle is a text frame, set to negative space above, so it overlaps the cell above it, enough to avoid a black gap.
* Except for the vertical paper-colored divider line, all the cells have zero-width strokes.
* I created the table in a text frame, that I fitted down to the size of the table, but I can't remember if I selected, copied, and pasted the text frame into the text flow to anchor it, or if I selected the table in the text frame, copied and pasted it into the flow. Not sure if it makes a difference in work efficiency.
If I understand your general needs, this should work well for changing text and adjusting the column widths.

How do you resize multiple artboards in Illustrator at the same time?

Hi,
This is a question that has been bugging me for a while. I'm currently on CS6 but I'm looking for a solution that can also work on CS5 for a co-worker.
Having multiple artboards has been established since CS4 and I have yet to see an official way of resizing multiple artboards, if anything there should at least be a plug-in.
As great of a feature it is, it seems a little short sited. If one has multiple artboards one should be able to manage multiple artboards, right?
I totally love having multiple artboards but I should be able to resize and manage multiple artboards as well.
This is great for building icon sets but how can I resize the set all at once?
I was considering trying to do an action but odds are I still would have to select an artboard one by one to do which doesn't save much time if you have like 30 artboards to apply this to.
I don't even see a batch render for artboards and Photoshop has that for its files.

Unfotunately when I looked into that does not seem to be the case. However I can resize when I "Save for Web" but that appears to only work for one artboard at a time. I can Save As or Export multipe artboards but not adjust the size. Believe me I would be happy if I could resize multiple artboards upon export but apparently that is not an option.

How do I import multiple playlists at once?

I know this issue has been discused before, but without a solution tailored to what i require, so I will reistate the problem from my point of view:
Background: Had a Windows I-Tunes library, supremely organized. The mother of an Electric surge broke through my anti-surge defenses and fried the motherboard, the hard disk, the Power supply, or so the CompUSA techs tell me. A total loss. My wife has a Mac, I wanted to move my music and playlists to an I-Tunes account stationed on her mac, and reorganize the library just as it was before synching my I-pod and keep walking my life.
Process:
With some third party programs I managed to transfer my music into ITunes and now I have it back. But now I want to recover the playlists that I had organized into folders and have my music organized as before. Some might say I-tunes is already organized, there no need for so many playlists...but to find My Chemical Romance under the Holiday music genre isn't where I though I would find it or where I want it. And there are thousands labeled in "genres" that I have never heard about...just because the CD had scripted the music on it was of that genre.I Use playlists to organize the music I use frequently, be it from a single group (best of) or a multi-group compilation, hear it the way I want it and have reasonable quick access to it. I don't like looking around for a song as I do other tasks.The I-Pod control wheel is not my hamster wheel.
In any case, I need to import the playlists en masse. There are many of them. I already have the playlist text files pre-separated, so I can import them in groups and place them in the folders they belong to. No overwhelming the system. I-Tunes is a heavy program in itself and any stated "slowing up" is imperceptible to I-Tunes regular speed. The benefits of my structure are primarily enjoyed in the I-POD. I hardly hear music directly from I-Tunes, it puts too much of a burden in a system I use for other heavies like photoshop etc.
I tried to do this with the automator...but it can import anything but playlists. I lacks a step to know what to do with the playlists once it has acquired them...don't know why it has the step to get them but no apparent action for what to do with them. This is what the workflow looked like. I thought it would work:
The problem was the last step: I was designed to import ONLY MUSIC. And there is no step that applies for the previous get playlists one that I see. Is there a custom workflow or suggestions on how to make this happen? this would both help me learn more about the tools available AND save me weeks of item by item Importing.

but that doesn't work.And, by the way, Drop does not exist as an option in that context menu, at least in the versions I checked: 3.0, 3.1.

Mentioned in one of the posts above is bug 5855085, actually an enhancement request, whose scheduled release keeps slipping.
If you highlight multiple objects (I tested with all objects of the same type) in 3.1, then select Edit -> Delete from the menu toolbar, a confirmation dialog titled "Erase from Disk" pops up, but an affirmative confirmation does nothing. In 3.0, the Edit -> Delete choice is not even enabled.
