Resizing images in pixels instead of inches?

How do I set the software of Elements 10 to resize images in pixels instead of inches?

By going to Preferences.  This is done by doing:
Edit >> Preferences
And look for something like this:
As you can see from the picture, it is under Units and Rulers.  Perhaps you can tell us what exactly are you trying to do?  For print, inches and cms are very common, For screen and web pixels is very useful.  For documents, points is useful;  but this is just a "rule of thumb" and people use it interchangeably these days because they have got used to different unit types.

  • How do I resize an image by pixels instead of by inches?

    Hi all!
I just bought Elements 10 for Mac.  I want to resize images to a certain number of pixels wide/high but I don't see how to do that.  The Resize option is showing the image sizes in inches.  There is not a pixel option in the drop down list.
    Thanks in advance!

When you go to Image>Resize>Image Size, you will need to turn on Resample Image to make the pixels area in the window active so that you can change it.

  • Cropping/resizing image by pixel dimensions

I am trying to crop or resize an image that is originally 2,122 x 1,415 px | 7.1 x 4.7 in | 300 dpi. I am to crop/resize image to fit 756 x 275 px. However, I don't want to lose the whole image. I would like to use the whole image just adjust it to the dimensions.
How can I accomplish this without creating any distortion or by removing elements by cropping the image?

    Hello Slange,
may I propose a solution based on a more mathematical derivation, where I assume the height of 275 px is decisive. The way is the same, if the 765 px width is important.
The reduced copy of 2122 x 1415 provides 412 x 275. To the wished 756 you need: 756 - 412 = 344. Splitting it into two parts I'll get 344 : 2 = 172. These I mount now (The black borders are only for better overview.) to an image with the wished measures 756 x 275:
The white area you can fill it with any suitable color.

  • Weird symbol in file name and images by pixel instead of size?

i my filenames i sometimes see a weird box with what looks like a script "x". is this some kind of default symbol that indicates i am using a non standard symbol in this file name? it sometimes happens after i drag and drop something say from my desktop to my laptop.
also, is there any chance of being able to see pixel size of images in a Finder window in addition to or instead of File size?
    Thanks.

    Some things about this.
    1. Ignore the back slash in front of the space.  That's the terminal shell convention for escaping (making significant) special characters that follow the back slash (in this case a space).
    2. A pathname like ~/foo/bar is another shell convention where the tilde is a shorthand for your home directory.
    3. I am not convinced that the weird stuff is not there in the Finder display.  I think it just doesn't show in the Finder's desktop font.
    4. I am going to use your example for the following discussion.  Extrapolate where needed.
The terminal shows a pathname like /Users/homename/Desktop/_evolute\ tutes, i.e. with some kind of garbage character(s) after tutes.
In terminal type cp followed by a space and drag that tutes file into the terminal window.  I think it will look something like this (don't hit return yet).
    cp /Users/homename/Desktop/_evolute\ tutes
Now type a space and add ~/Desktop/foobar on to the end of the line.  It should now look like the following:
    cp /Users/homename/Desktop/_evolute\ tutes  ~/Desktop/foobar
Hit return.  You should see a file called foobar on your desktop (unless you get an error because the shell didn't like those special characters at the end of the pathname, in which case we have to quote it, but ignore that for now and we can address that in a followup post).  All this did was copy your file to the desktop with a different name, foobar in this case.
Now I propose that the file foobar is named just that.  If you throw that in the trash, do a get info on it, or drag it back into the terminal window, it should still be just the name foobar.  Nothing else at the end of it.
If all this goes as I described, then the moral of all this is that however that original problematic file (or files) was created somehow something added those non-printable characters to the end of the name.  In some fonts it shows as best the font being used can show it.  In others they remain invisible because there is no representation in that particular font.
...on the other hand, I could just be wrong about all of this!

  • I am working with images around 4,000 x 4,000 pixels. Upon resizing, images get pixelated. HELP!

What does "pixelated" mean? sorry, this is far too vague. Any resizing operation causes resampling no matter whether it's up or down, but specific procedures affect it more than others. Conversely even "scaling" your image in the comp preview to display it smaller in your comp at 50% or whatever res you use will introduce further artifacts, not to speak stuff to do with pixel aspect ratio conversions, hardware accelerated display and what have you... You need to provide a lot more info and screenshots. We don't even know what version of AE you are using on what system. As a start, set your comp res and zoom to 100% when you do your scaling and judge quality this way. Everything else would be pointless. If you still see issues, clarify and provide the necessary details.

  • Resizing images without pixelation

    Hi everyone
This is a topic that everyone seems to be wondering about but
nobody has the answer. If you look at a site like
www.manipulator.com , the screen can be resized and the images will
increase along with it (until a certain point of course) but at no
point do the images pixelate? Where as my images do not matter how
good the quality or picture format.
If anybody has any ideas how this is done I would be
    greatful!
    Thanks
    SG

First question - why do you need the JPEGs? If it's to upload them to a site via FTP there are export plug-ins to do this directly from within Aperture.
Using the media browser isn't going to help you at all because that will be accessing Previews in Adobe98 profile - not something you should be putting up on a website.
I also came across this problem when I wanted to convert a large number of raw files to jpegs and keep the new jpegs in my library. At the time I was running low on disk space and didn't need the raws anymore, but had to go through the process of exporting and re-importing for a bunch of projects.
Sorry, but that's a bit too alien an idea for me - I never threw away negatives back when I was using film, why would you throw away RAW files now?
Another pet peeve I have is that there is no status indicator when exporting (2 minutes left, 25% done, etc....anything besides a beachball), so I don't know how long the export will take, and on my 2006 macbook it sometimes takes a while.
At the bottom of the Browser pane on the left you will see a progress 'swirl' when exporting, importing or generating Previews. Click on it to bring up the activity window with progress bars for all current actions. You can also access it through Window>Show Activity.

  • Change 'pop up' measurement to pixels instead of inches? CS6

when I'm using the rectangle tool or the marquee selection I get this awesome little 'context' box that shows how big the object I'm drawing is.. but it's on inches. How do I change this to pixels?

    Thanks R_Kelly this works perfectly!
One note: the menu is Photoshop > Preferences > Units & Rulers (not edit).

I would like to be able to size images by kilobytes instead of pixels--is this possible?  I use I-Contact which requires a maximum of 70kb per image.  For best quality I want to make the images as close to 70 as possible.  Currently I choose a size of 300 pixels on the shortest side but sometimes this gives me an image of slightly greater than 70kb and sometimes the image is just 30-40kb.  Is there a way to be more precise in reaching but not exceeding 70 kb?

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
You can opnly resize using the available options and file size is not one of them

  • Resizing an Image using pixels

Hi I used to use Photoshop CS4 on another computer. I resize a lot of my images to 1024 pixel width. Howver in Photoshop Elements 7 (which I have just bought) and I can't find out how to resize the image using pixels as the units. I am doing 'Image Resize' It has a lot of units to choose from e.g. inches/picas/points. But no pixels. Please help! Thank you very much.

The top section is pixels. Turn on Resample Image and you can make changes there.

  • How To Display Image Dimension in Pixels Rather Than Inches

I am using Photoshop CS3, which I'm still learning to use.  I want to see an open image's dimension (W X H) in pixels in the image's window/workspace.
Right now, when I open a file it displays the file's Document Sizes in the lower part of the workspace (sorry, don't know the proper terminology).  Selecting the arrow next to this currently displayed information, I can then select Show>Document Dimensions.  However, it always gives the image's width and height dimensions in inches.  But, I want is to see these dimensions in pixels.
How do I get the document's dimensions to be displayed in pixels rather than inches?  Thanks in advance.

Oops!  Sorry about putting this in the wrong forum.  I'm using PS to edit images that I'm using within DW.  Hence, my (temporary) confusion.
Anyway, yes, that solved my problem.  I appreciate the quick response.  Thanks!

  • If I try and follow a link from another website to open another I get awclick.php (GIF Image 1x1) pixels in a new tab instead of the web page I want.

I was trying to open a website as a link from another website and I get a new tab that says
    awclick.php(GIF Image 1x1 pixels)
I can open the website without clicking on a link to it by just typing in the address but as this is a cash back site I am linking from it doesn't help!

    You're welcome

  • "process mutiple files" freezes computer when resizing images.PSE3

This function has always worked perfectly for me for years. It started about 2 weeks ago and I have no clue why it is doing this.
Whenever I try to resize a folder containing mutiple or even single images, it freezes the program and computer until I restart everything.
    More specifics;
files are being downsized not upsized.
the original image loads into the program, then as it is being resized, it freezes up at the same point each time. This is when the "progress bar" (not sure of exact name) at the bottom of the page shows about 25% progress.
I have cleaned up the hard drive and done a file reorganization.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program.
I can resize images directly through the image/resize function one at a time. The problem is that I frequently have to resize large batches of images.
    Thanks for any help.
    Dave

This has caught other people. Check you Resize Image box to see if some strange value has been entered. One user had accidentally entered 4 pixels instead of 4 inches so all his pictures came out really small. I wonder if you have the opposite problem and are resaving to some extremely large size that Elements does not like.
    If not post back.
Additional question-are you having problems with the same set of pictures? If so, could you run a test on a second set of pictures. Perhaps there is something strange in the source files.

  • Photopshop CS5 resizing images

Hi, I recently moved over from CS2 on windows to CS5 on Mac.  I am a photographer and design my own wedding albums.  My current issue is, that when I move images from one to another to create a montage, the images do not stay at their current size but instead automatically enlarged so that they fill the new canvas size (in fact they become greater than the canvas size).  This means I have to re-size every picture back into its oirginal size within the canvas to create the montage (the monatge being - an album page with multiple wedding pictures of various sizes designed on it).  I have tried changing numerous "property settings" within Photoshop, and particularly the "resize image during place" option, but not have been successful.  This never happened in CS2 so am not sure if its a bug in CS5?  Can anyone help as I have ran out of ideas how to solve this.  Many thanks

The resolution of the images is important since an image dragged from one image into the montage image will take on the resolution of the image its dropped into (the montage image).
For example, if your image is 300 ppi and you drag it into your montage image that is set at only 100 ppi the image will be a lot larger than you expected.
Also the pixel dimensions can be important regardless of the resolution. Something 2000x2000 pixels dragged into an image that is only 1500x1500 pixels will be larger than the canvas size even if the resolution is the same.

  • Photos all resized to 320x240 pixels despite selecting "large"

I have an issue with Apple Mail where all photos attached to an email (either by clicking "email" in iPhoto, or dragging the photo onto a new email message window) automatically resize to 320x240 pixels.
Changing the "size" dropdown at the bottom of the compose window has no effect.
The photos are of a large resolution before being attached to an email. For some reason this has only just started happening and was not happening 12 hours ago. I have not installed any new software or updated any software during this time.
    Any suggestions most appreciated!

Hi Ernie - thanks for the reply.
The image on the desktop, once exported, is the correct size (when opened in preview, it retains the correct size - the resolution is greater than the screen resolution).
When this image is dropped into mail, it seems to automatically be resized to 320x240. Changing the "Image Size" dropdown has no affect on the image in the new message window or the resulting image when sent. The "Image Size" dropdown defaults to what was previously selected - I have tried leaving it on "Actual Size" but this does not make a difference.
The odd thing is that the resulting image when sent has a different physical size (ie, it went from 80KB to 120KB) if sent using "Large" instead of "Small" but the pixel resolution remains at 320x240, so it is doing something with the image.
I have tried multiple images and also confirmed that these images do not cause a similar issue on a different mac running a similar setup.
    Thanks!
    Tom

  • Need help on quality of resized image!!

I am required to resize images to max 1240pixel (longest dimension) as a submission of work, though when work is viewed it will be at 30"x40".  Can not figure out a way to do this where images don't become quite pixelated when viewed at larger size.   Appreciate any suggestions.

Is there some software to verify if my graphics card is shotty?
Techtool Pro has some testing, the AHT tests VRAM, but game benchmarks and stressing will tell you the most.
Is re-seating the graphics card or memory worth trying?
Absolutely. Just don't reinstall the graphics card until you clean it thoroughly.
Cleaning the dust out of my machine?
YES. A dust filled graphics card heatsink will cause the GPU to cook, and cause problems thet you describe.
If I need a new graphics card, what are my options? Do I have to purchase it via Apple store? I would like to stick with an Nvidia card so am I stuck buying the same card I currently have or can I upgrade?
You don't have to buy from Apple, but using with OS X limits your choices to Mac compatible or flashable PC versions.
There is an awful lot of user input into this topic here:
