Resolution Issues

There seems to be a problem with the display resolution with a G4 running OS 10.3.9. Everything appears to big on m screen, but there's only one resolution available in the Display area of system preferences. Is there anything I can do to change this?
Thanks,
J

Typically LCD screens work best in their native resolution. I have the same issue, but then my eyes aren't what they use to be. About the only thing I can suggest is increasing the font size in applications that will do that. I still prefer this screen over any other laptop I've seen, even though the print can be on the small side.

My new company installed Adobe Creative Cloud (There was some annoying Proxy issues at first, because of the seriously tight I.T policies) but we are having some serious resolution issues with After Effects CC 2014 (also have this resolution problem with Adobe Premiere, Media Encoder, Muse) on Windows 8.1 Pro on a Dell Precision M3800 laptop with icons and interface looking too small and hard to see, is there a fix, an update or a work around, can anyone help?
    Any help will be appreciated!

Hi Todd is there a time-frame for this fix, there is a lot of pressure on me, because I convinced my company to get the Creative Cloud and quite a lot of the CC software is not compatible with the latest Windows 8.1 OS.
Is there at least a work around, until this big fix comes along?

  • OS X 10.8.3 Display Resolution Issue

Ever since updating to 10.8.3, there has been a sporatic resolution issue when waking my MBP. My mid 2009 13" MBP operates in closed lid mode while connected to a 21.5" monitor. My machine frequently wakes to a completely incorrect resolution that is many times the size of my display. It fixes to the correct resolution if I simply sleep and wake again, or correct it via System Preferences, but having to do this several times becomes quite annoying. Anyone else experiencing this bug and/or have any ideas on its resolution?

  • Macbook Pro 15" Retina Windows 7 HDMI Resolution issue

    Hello,
I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15" with Retina display running bootcamp with Windows 7.
I have connected the Macbook to an external HP w2448hc display using HDMI interface.
When booting to OS X 10.9.4, the resolution of the external display is set to 1920x1200 and it looks fine. See picture below:
However, when booting to Windows 7 the resolution on the external display looks lower (although shows up as 1920x1200):
I have another PC which I have connected to the same display with HDMI and the resolution also shows up as 1920x1200. However, in this case the resolution indeed looks as the correct one:
Although not seen very well from the screen shots, both the PC and the Macbook Pro (with Windows 7) show the same resolution in the settings, but the desktop and icons under Macbook Pro (bootcamp) look bigger and with smaller resolution.
Does anyone know how to solve this?

    Hi,
I managed to fix this resolution issue by lowering the color depth to 16bit for the external display. Not exactly sure why was this necessary, maybe for some reason Windows cannot allocate enough video memory for both displays?

I am concerned as all work is sent to clients via a PDF for approval etc. and that they might feel that my artwork is of inferior quality due to the way PDFs now seem to display under Acrobat 9.2
Thanks in advance for any comments or help.
Go to Preference and to Page Display:
Check the part about the resolution and see if it matches the resolution of your display.
The the resolution of which you view a PDF on screen doesn't necessarily have to do with how it looks when printed. I just updated 9.2 and open a PDF and I didn't see any problems on my machine.

  • Menu Resolution Issues

I've been working on this DVD Menu forever for our first feature film, DVD's have to go into produciton today so Ive been working on getting the master DVD out to our duplicator. Can someone help me with my menu resolution issues I am having?
I've sent my menu from photoshop with interactive buttons, both the buttons and the text look great on my preview file, but after burning to dvd the menu looks low res and muddy. is there something I'm doing wrong?

is there something I'm doing wrong?
It would help if we knew the various settings. What are the project default transcode settings? That is what is used for menus. Motion menus? What is the pixel size and par of the menus.
Button highlights by the DVD spec only allow 2 bit indexed color. Adding effects does not work.
You might post a screenshot from photoshop with the layers twirled open.

  • OS X Mavericks: display randomly turning white/brown/grey [no resolution issues]

    Hey folks,
I discovered a very strange problem the last few days while using the internal and an external VGA Monitor on my Macbook Pro (mid 2010, 8GB).
I'm running on OS X Mavericks with the latest updates and the system runs pretty smooth.
What I discovered is as follows:
Using any VGA monitor that I own, sometimes both (internal and external) display turn white (or grey or brown, just displaying a solid colored screen). This occurs with literally every display I used externally and doesn't occur while just using the Macbook Pro without an external display. This didn't happen before on Mountain Lion, neither did it happen the first weeks on Mavericks (I've been using it since it's released). After this happening, I have to do a forced reboot. This issue does occur randomly within the daily usage.
Furthermore, I don't have any resolution issues as many user claimed about this already while running OS X Mavericks.
From looking at the system I can tell that the RAM is not damaged (also because this doesn't happen while using the MB without external display). I also tried other RAM, issue remains reproducible.
I haven't found any solution on the internet, so I decided to post my problem here.
Hope there is anybody out there who might be able to help me out.
    Yours sincerely

  • Apple tv3 resolution issues

I've been having resolution issues with my apple tv3. I recently updated the software and now the quality is nowhere near what is was last week. Originally I thought it was just Netflix but after trying the other channels like Skynews and PBS I've dicovered that it's the AppleTv. I reset the resolution to 1080p under
settings. I'm finding that I when I start a video I get the hd for the first few seconds then the quality goes to crap.I checked my internet speed and clocked it at
    25 mbps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not ATV, the network connection.  Bandwidth download tests are not useful for this since it only tests for a brief time span, does not test the path from your ATV to the content provider.  It is also possible that your ISP is throttling streaming video or content from specific services.  I am guessing you are using WiFi?  I would try using a wired connection for a while as a test to see if that resolves it.  Streaming video rarely works well or reliably over WiFi.

  • Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711

I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.
    TIA.

  • Mac mini and Sony tv resolution issue

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a Mac mini for the purposes of hooking it up to my 51" Sony Wega HDTV. I took the mini out and connected the DVI adaptor that came in box and then hooked the mini to the tv via HDMI cable thinking this was the best possible connection for my mini. I have an issue where the screen is over flowing off the TV screen. I looked in system preference and have very limited resolution options but 1080i was selected and also over scan was checked. If I deselect overscan I get borders which I don't want. My tv doesn't have many options so how can I calibrate these two to work togethor?

I just discovered this is not a TV issue at all...
Uh, yes it is. Overscan is a condition unique to TVs. Computer monitors don't do it (overscan) hence there is normally no need for the kind of graphics card driver you are talking about, e.g. one that has precise control of video borders.
Many TVs on the market today have a method for defeating overscan, tucked away somewhere in their menu system, in order to allow the TV to be used just like a computer monitor. That is always the preferred solution when it is available because it will make the best possible image on the TV.
Your TV is a rear projection TV. Such TVs are not well suited for use as computer monitors because overscan is naturally baked into the optics architecture, meaning the manufacturer deliberately sets the mirror and lens system in such a way as to cause the native resolution (1280 x 720 in the case of your TV) to extend beyond the edges of the projection screen. Therefore it is impossible to get the native resolution of the projector's engine to display fully and perfectly on the screen. Only scaled or bordered version of it can ever be displayed. It's all fixed at the factory and there's no getting around the fact.
For the original G4 Mac mini that had ATI Graphics, there was a driver like the one you found for your father's Windows computer that allowed video borders to be set independent of resolution. But apart from that early effort on the part of ATI, I have not seen anything like that since for minis that have graphics based on Intel or nVidia hardware. I think you are going to be stuck with the dark video borders as a necessary limitation of the TV you own in the absence of any driver to counteract that limitation.
I believe the media center front end app called Plex has a facility for setting video borders, but I've never used it personally since I am able to turn overscan off on my TV. So I can't vouch for how well it works. And in any case, since it is bound to the app, it will only be active when Plex is running and not when, say for example, the Finder is in use, which is when you most need it.

  • Portrait display resolution issue since upgrading to Mountain Lion

Hello. I'm running a Mac Mini 2011 with the 2.5 GHz i5 and Radeon HD 6630m graphics. I run two monitors, one via HDMI and via the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor. The HDMI connection runs landscape, the VGA portrait. Since updating from Lion to Mountain Lion, the resolution options in portrait disappear. I'm forced to use 800x1200, which stretches and distorts horribly, as opposed to the correct 1366x768 available to me in landscape.
Prior to updating from Lion to Mountain lion I didn't have any issues, so it's pretty clear this is Mountain Lion related. I'm hoping someone can help me resolve this issue.

Try holding the option key when you click on the scalled button and see if the resolution you need is listed.

  • Intermittent screen resolution issues on Macbook Pro

My screen can be clear and then reduced resolution or reduced color palatte.  So I know the screen has full resolution capabilty, it just changes without notice for no reason.

I've just purchased an Envy Rcline 23-k300br and eversince I turned it on for the first time, I 've noticed an issue with the screen: the resolution of the screen is VERY BAD as I can see something like "strips" pof pixels, which makes it difficutl to read things on it (if looks as if there was a plastic film covering it, but there isn't). The pixels seem not to have a continuity, making the image (especilly in written text) very ugly and irregular. I have also noticed that when I press the back of the screen (for example to move the computer's position), the front screen shows a blurred yellowish spot (whcih changes the correct color of whatever is being shown on the screen at the moment), which disappears as soon as I stop pressing it (notice that even the slightest presure will cause the spot to appear).I have a Touchsmart 640 (windows 7) and the screen has an awesome resolution and it's perfect! I cannot understand why this happens on Envy Recline, since it's supposed to be a more modern (and improved) computer.

  • Resolution issues (oh, and xvidtune does not work)

I'm using my 32" Samsung TV as my PC monitor.
according to the specs in the manual, the max resolution it supports is 1360x768 @ 60Hz
also, according to the manual, the horizontal frequency is 30-60 and vertical is 60-75
I use the GeForce 7950 GX2 video card, and am using the latest nvidia drivers.
    here is the issue:
X starts up. it even uses 1360x768 as it should. however, the display is not aligned with the monitor/TV - there is roughly a 150 pixel "gap" on the left side of the monitor.
I tried a lot of things to eliminate it:
    1. adjust the picture on the screen using the monitor itself, obviously (it doesn't go past this point. can't move it more to the left.. I don't know why the limit this, but they do)
    2. xvidtune worked on numerous occasions for me in the past, but it fails horribly this time. whatever I do (even if I don't change anything) it tells me that the mode line I am requesting is either impossible or unsupported by my hardware config
    3. looked for a way to adjust the screen position using the nvidia tools, but I cannot find a way to do so.
Currently, to be able to use the TV/monitor at all, I'm using the 1024x768 resolution in 4:3 picture mode. But this just won't cut it, I want to use the 1360x768 resolution in 16:9 picture mode (widescreen) as I _should_ be able to.
how should I take care of this?

  • Macbook Pro VGA adapter resolution issue

I have an Optoma projector that has been connected to my Lenovo laptop for the last 2 years. I have just decided to set my mac up to it, and had a mini display port to VGA adapter. The native resolution of my projector is 1280x800, yet when I plug in the mac, I can only get 800x600. If I change it to optimize for the built-in display, I get a scaled image of 1280x800 on what is really 800x600. This has been extremely frustrating and my searches on the web have proven unsuccessful. I have tried the PRAM/NVRAM restart where you hold Option, Command, P + R, and it has not resolved the issue. How can I display the correct resolution, which is exactly the same as the Macbook itself??

Upon more research, I have learned that holding down the "option" key while clicking Scaled in the Display Properties will allow you more resolutions to choose from. I now have the option of 1280x720, 1280x768 or 1280x960, but still not the true resolution which is 1280x800!! How ridiculous! Why can't the MacBook determine the resolution of the projector and use it to its maximum potential the way Windows did?

  • Lenovo X201 external monitor resolution issue

    Hi,
I'm having issues connecting my Lenovo X201 through the docking station -> display port -> Dell 3011.  The native resolution for the monitor is 2560x1600.  However, I currently can only set the resolution to 1920x1080 (ugly!) as any high resolution results in the monitor entering power save mode.
I'm using xrandr to set the video mode in my .xinitrc (running dwm).  This creates a good Xinerama config for dwm.
    I'm currently using the line
    xrandr --output DP1 --mode 1920x1080 --above LVDS1
to set my resolution.  When I change to --auto or --mode 2560x1600, or 1920x1200 etc I get the blank screen on the external monitor.  I'm using the xf86-video-intel-sna driver package (I tried the -uxa as well to no avail).
    Any hints?

I was able to get it by having arandr help generate the config, here's the solution that worked for me:
xrandr --output HDMI1 --off --output LVDS1 --auto --right-of DP1 --output DP1 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --auto --output VGA1 --off
