Restore contact on iPhone?

Hi Supporter,
How can I restore contact on iphone?
Camaritas

hmm, ok. then  guess I'm missing why iCloud is called a backup system. It's basically a synching mechanism in case you need to look something up when you don't have your phone with you.
I just mentioned kids, but it's easy enough for anyone to delete something by mistake. and if that get synched right away to icloud with no version control, what's the use for it besides what I mentioned above unless you just loose your phone. But even then if someone finds it and deletes your contacts that will get synched to iCloud and gets deleted from there as well.
SugarSync works in a similar way (instantaneous synching), but it keeps deleted copies so you can always get it back. I understand that it might take some extra space, so may be it should be limited by number versions kept or days or people would have to pay extra because otherwise it's confusing as it;s really not a Backup system at all...

  • Please help with restoring contacts on Iphone 4S

Still haven't gotten an answer to my question yet. I want to perform a complete restore on my 4S before upgrading to IOS 6. The only data I want transfered over are my contacts. Can I do this without restoring from a backup via Itunes on my PC? Someone told me awhile ago that the only way to get contacts back on your iphone is by restoring from a backup. Please help. Thanks

if you're in the UK try a company called fixmyiphone. I had the same issue - Apple told me it was not repairable. I tried the 'hairdryer trick' (look it up on youtube) but it did not work and finally I found this company - fixed it on the spot for £40. Highly recommend. While editing a contact on my iPhone, every contact disappeared except for my personal contact information.  What happened and how do I restore?  My contacts on iCloud mirror my iPhone - only my personal infomation is showing.
    Help!

Calling Apple support is not going to get them back, unless you have a backup of the phone that you can restore to, then you can restore to that. They would tell you the same thing. They don't have any way to restore your contacts. Were you backing the contacts up elsewhere? What made you believe they would have been in iCloud? Is iCloud how you backup your phone? Do you sync the phone to the computer via iTunes? If so, do you sync your contacts to a supported application on the computer? Are the contacts you see in iCloud any of the ones that you had on your phone, or are they just the ones on your husband's phone?

You can restore the contacts by restoring from the latest backup you made, but all other settings and data will be set back to that point in time as well.

You have to follow the process outlined here to recover contacts from an iCloud backup: Recovering deleted iCloud contacts from an iCloud backup..  Otherwise, as you have noticed, the recovered contacts are overwritten when your device reconnects to iCloud.

Inactive memory is your file system cache.
The cache is trying to save you from expensive disk I/O (where expensive means in time and battery life).  Running that disk a lot drains your battery faster, and it is orders of magnitude slower than data already in RAM.  Unused RAM is a waste of money.
Is your system running slow?  If so, then start looking at all those 3rd party additions you have loaded.
Do you really need "2" virtual machines?  VirtualBox and Parallels?
As mentioned above, get rid of the anti-virus software.  It is just eating system resources.
Do you need MacFUSE.  It has been responsible for performance issues for some users (all of which may depend on what kind of file system format you are trying access).
Do you need to run your own Samba server?
You have OpenVPN and TunnelBrick.  Are they both needed?

  • Trying to restore my iphone 5 throught iTunes and it says contacting the iphone software update on my mac book for the past 4 hours

I went to update to the new ios and my phone immediately went into recovery mode. I called apple and they said I had to restore my iphone 5. I did what they told me to do through iTunes on my macbook and now the box that says Contacting the IPhone software update server has been there for 4 hours with no progress.

It can not do that all by itself.
When you plugged it in, iTunes said 'Oh goody! You got a new phone! Would you like to make it just like your old phone?'...
    You explicitly said 'Yes'.
    You can't undo that.
No backup of the current state of the new phone was made. It was wiped and the last backup of your old phone was restored to it.
Anything you had on the new phone is gone.

  • How to restore contact to my iphone

how to restore contact to my iphone

    How were they lost?
Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer and/or there are a number of free email accounts that support syncing contacts and other data over the air - with an Apple iCloud account depending on the iOS version your iPhone is running, Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail email accounts.
Contacts are also included with the iPhone's backup which requires restoring the iPhone from the backup if the backup has not been overwritten since the contacts were lost on the iPhone.

  • Will I lose current info i.e. contacts on iPhone if I restore to a previous date

Will I lose current info i.e new contacts on iPhone if I restore to a previous date?

    Yes, you will.
Restoring is an "all or nothing" proposition.  When you restore, everything will appear as it did back then.

  • HT4859 can i restore contacts without restoring iphone settings

I  think I'm having problems with phone setting when i restore my iphone 4   ios5.1 so i'll like to know if I can restore my contacts without getting the old backup settings back on the phone?

While updating to 2.02 last night, I got the message the the update and firmware install could not be completed and it bricked my phone. After attaching the iphone to my pc several times it said to do a restore. The restore took about 45 min. After the restore it brought back to "Set up Iphone" page with the only options of 1) New Iphone or 2) Restore Name's Iphone and continue. If you hit continue it just does the restore process all over again. I was not able to sync my phone at this point. I finally called support and after an hour online they were about ready to give up. So they finally as a last resort said select "New Iphone" the next page was just a screen as where files will go. But hitting continue brought me to the sync screen and now all is good. Seems like a poor choice on the restore settings page and why didn't Apple tech know this simple fix??

    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • Address Book/Contacts/Google/iPhone Sync = Tons of Duplicates?

Hi, folks - I'm syncing my contacts with Google, using the following:
    1. iPhone: Google Sync for Calendars & Contacts using Microsoft Exchange
    2. Macbook: Address Book also syncing to Google under Preferences.
This setup is creating tons of duplicate contacts each day. It's usually the same handful of contacts that get duplicated dozens and dozens of times throughout the day, bloating my few hundred contacts into thousands of entries.
I'm guessing that the set-up below is creating some kind of infinite loop for certain items, and doubles them every time it tries to sync. But I can't find any common characteristics for the items that keep duplicating.
I'm sure the easiest fix would be to turn off option 2, and stop trying to keep my Macbook's local contact list in sync. But that's my way of "backing up" incase my Google account ever gets hosed for any reason.
    Does anybody know:
    1. How I can fix my set-up above to stop the dupe-loop, OR
    2. How to troubleshoot each contact that's duping, fix fields/data etc OR
    3. A better way to auto-backup Google so I don't have to use Option 2 at all?
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Have the same problem.
Today, as usual did a sync and was very pleased to find that almost all my contacts on IPhone were duplicated. Weird, not all of them.
The problem is that I have to double check every contact, because the duplication was a bit...weird also. Not all duplicates are the same. One might contain all info about a contact and another one might have only one phone number.
So, this is a BIG problem.
I tried deleting all contacts from my Outlook database and sync.
Oh, the joy of having all your IPhone contacts DELETED without even a warning.
Restored a backup and got all my Contacts back, duplicated of course.
Believe me, I am DEAD AFRAID of using ITunes again. Maybe for the ones that did the programing of it might have some logic, but for me, as well as for many Apple customers with the same problem (and more) I think NOT.
This piece of software must have been written on some crazy after party weekend, because I cannot understand how such a big name like Apple can release such a badly written application.
Do we have an alternative to ITunes?
I am using it for backing up my contacts, because I tend to loose my phone all the time
I would use it for purchasing some interesting software from the store, but, most of the software I like...are not in my country's store :)) (Google Earth, The Discovery software, etc). Way to go!
I do remember Nokia and their little application. So easy to do anything. Apple, weak up!!!

  • ITunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet...???

    Ok I’m completely lost here....
I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600), I updated iTunes to 11.0.2.25 and some other updates for windows last night on my laptop. I try connecting to download the iOS 6.1.2 update for my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 via iTunes. I am getting this message for both "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Everything was fine with connecting prior to running these updates because I downloaded the 6.1 update with no problems when it came out.
What I have done so far with which has made no difference:
    Checked my internet connection
    Changed my internet connection
Signed out of iTunes and then signed back in
Ran diagnostics via iTunes, comes back with: Network interfaces verified- Internet connection failed- Secure link to iTunes store verified
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-20 20:40:48.
Disabled firewall, spy sweeper, virus scanner
    start>run>cmd> typed "netsh winsock reset"
    Rebooted
Checked the parental controls in iTunes
    Start>control panel>internet options>connections tab> lan settings> selected the "automatically detect settings"
    Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes
When I would "ping gs.apple.com" it would come back with "request timed out" no matter what internet connection I was on, so I went into the hosts file  start>my computer>(C:)>WINDOWS>system32>drivers>ect>HOSTS and added  "#     127.0.0.1     gs.apple.com". Now it will ping gs.apple.com just fine but still comes up with the "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet" message in iTunes when i try to download the update.
If anyone can come up with any ideas that I haven’t tried, please let me know. This is keeping me back from updating both of my phones along with if anything should ever happen to them; restores as well.

im computer is connected i can go to the apple store through itunes but when i plug my phone in i keep getting that alert... i plugged my phone in to update it after the apple loaded the itunes icon and a usb showed up.
