Restore mac tiger to previous day to find all folders in document file

I emptied trash and forced trash to empty and deleted itunes and then noticed when I went to finder and document was gone with all my folders in it, taxes ect. Have tried to connect to server through SMB and could not came up error code 36 could not be read or written. PLEASE HELP thank you in advance

An error -36 is an input/output error, meaning it can't read from the disc.
Now an error 36 has to do with having Windows installed on your Mac according to this forum:
http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-29543.html
Note other things in that forum may constitute speculation which would not be permitted on Apple Discussions, but that particular thread appears to have technical solutions for an error 36, as opposed to an error -36.
Other stores may be able to provide support. Where are you located?

    alrite. I have made my mistake. I should not jail break my iphone. So if I purchase my apps again from itunes is that mean mean my data will be back?
    I hope you guys can giv me some support here since I am Apple genuine buyer. I could be wrong last time and now I turn over a new leaf and learn a lesson.
    Please noted that I can always create new account to ask for the same questions without mention about "jailbreak" if I want to but obviously I won't do that. Please provide me your support! Thank you!

  • How to Find all folders on hard drive by size

    I'm trying to clean up my internal hard drive (232gb). I've been opening up misc folders and getting size info. Still missing about 60 Gig. I seem to remember, back in the day, there was a way to get a list of all folders on a drive listed in order of file size. Is this a possibility?
    Also speaking of back in the day, why don't I need to optimize my Hard Drive and is fixing permissions the same thing.
    Sorry for the two topics
    Thanks

    I recommend [WhatSize|http://www.whatsizemac.com/index.php] ($12.99 US) for the following features:
    It's the only one I know of with an option to show everything at once; the others only show things the logged-on user is permitted to see (click the +As User+ padlock icon in the toolbar).
    You can use any of 4 different display formats (3 text and a pie chart).
    There's a "Find Duplicates" feature.
    It has very good and complete Help.
    Also speaking of back in the day, why don't I need to optimize my Hard Drive
    See: [About disk optimization with Mac OS X|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1375].
    and is fixing permissions the same thing.
    No. See: [About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452].

  • How to find all bookmarked PDF documents in Preview in Mavericks?

    Hi there,
      the problem is that before upgrading to Mavericks I could view all my bookmarked PDF documents just via menu bar in Preview, but now in Mavericks I have no idea how to manage this bookmarked documents - I can see bookmarks only after opening these PDF files which have been bookmarked. Just imagine that you have thousands of documents of which only a couple have been bookmarked for later reading - as I can see the only way to find these documents in Maverick is to open documents one by one and see whether they have bookmarks or not... Is there any way to bypass this painful procedure?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Alex

    I tried this and it works as you describe, but not all Hypercard documents appear to have the same content type, as described by Terminal.
    The first Hypercard stack I tried came up with the content type:
    dyn.ah62d4rv4ge8xe6u
    The search only found the one result with this type (the same stack).
    Then I tried using the Hypercard "Home" stack (a pretty central stack to Hypercard's functioning), and it had a content type:
    dyn.ah62d4rv4gk8zgzcbmq
    (note the type is longer with a different ending; only the first 14 characters are identical to the first stack).
    This search found 317 items, which is likely most of my Hypercard documents, so this is some progress.
    Unfortunately I know that since the first stack I tried had a different content type, there may be other Hypercard stacks on my hard drive with yet a different content type, not caught by these searches.
    I then tried a wildcard, thinking that if only the first 14 characters of the content type are identical, I focus my search on those characters only, using asterisk as a wildcard at the end. So I searched for:
    dyn.ah62d4rv4g*
    The result was 526 hits, including many documents that are not Hypercard. So this doesn't help.
    It appears that the content type is not exactly specific to a the File Type or Creator Code, so while I can find many of a particular document, this method cannot find all of one type of document.
    I tried searching using raw query by the Terminal-reported File Type Code (kMDItemFSTypeCode= "STAK"), but this revealed no items.
    Perhaps I should suggest this to Apple as a bug fix for Leopard, to restore the ability to search by Type Code or Creator Code as a choice in the OS Find service? I know these codes are no longer relied on as much as they used to be, since now the OS uses extension as much as anything else, but there is lots of older software that still run in Leopard that use Type and Creator codes. And Apple still recommends registering the creator code of any new software.
    Thank you!

  • How to find all doc and docx files ?

    In order to find all my DOC or DOCX documents I tried with Fider - ALL FILES but see no such options  to narrow down this search to only DOC or DOCX
    I tried with .doc and .docx but with bad results
    Once I have the list with my Word documents, I want to search for the word Music inside the files.
    Anyone has a suggestion?
    Also tried with Spotlight, no good either.
    I use Mac OS Lion

    In the Finder, choose Find (Command-F). In the search criteria, choose Kind - is - Other. In the Other text box type "Microsoft Word".
    If you search by extension, such as Name - Ends with - "docx", you will miss files with extension hidden.

  • Is there a way to have Finder list folders and documents in alphabetical order?

    Finder keeps changing the order of folders and documents.  Is there a way to have everythning remain in alphabetical order?  The way it works now makes it difficult to find a specific folder or doc from a long list.

    In the Finder click the list icon and then sort by name. Is this what you mean?

  • Restoring Mac HD to previous date without losing user data

    I installed about 3 applications in the past 2 weeks and have noticed my computer is definitely slower than it was... rendering web pages and simple things just aren't as snappy anymore.
    On the Support site there lots of articles explaining how to completely restore my system disk and other tell me how to retrieve an old version of files/folders... but how do I restore my system disk with out losing my mail, ical, addres book, itunes lib, skype data, stickies and all other data I have changed and want to keep since the install?
    Please help. If restoring the entire HD and then restoring individual files/folders I want back from todays date in Time Machine then so be it.
    If there is an easier way then please let me know.
    Thanks

    you can do it but it has to be done in two steps. first, make a TM backup. to speed things up just choose 'backup now" from the TM menu. next, do a full system restore by booting from the leopard install dvd. once the system is restored log out of your current account and log into another admin account. create one using system preferences->accounts. then go to the folder /users at the top level of the drive and restore the home directory of your main user from the most recent TM backup available. then log into your main account and all your recent data will be there.

  • Boot Camp 3.0 recognises Mac HFS drives but does not list all folders

    Hi
    I have just done a clean install of Boot Camp/Windows XP using the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers that come with Snow Leopard, and was pleased to find native support for Mac Drives (HFSJ). Whilst all of the Mac drives in my Mac Pro are recognised and can be opened and explored in Windows explorer, a number of folders in one of the drives didn't show up. I could access them by typing the exact path in windows explorer, but when using the mouse to open the drive a number of folders could not be found. Furthermore, windows applications, such as media libraries, would not pick up any files in the folders that couldn't be seen in explorer.
    I went back to OSX to check that all of the folders were indeed present and they were. So in the end I reverted to using my Macdrive software again and all of the folders showed up again and worked as expected. So, it may be that the new bootcamp drivers are not all they are cracked up to be.
    Anyone else experienced similar issues, or got any clues as to what I might need to get this working right?
    Thanks
    Nick

    I am having that issue, but haven't worried about it since I've only booted to windows 2 times since the upgrade. Both times I've experienced a much more aggravating problem. Both times in order to reboot to OSX I have to use the install disc to repair the OSX drive because something renames it to "disk1s2" plus some counts are invalid. I use Macdrive, but since SL the mac volumes appear just as any other drive icon. Using Parallels or Fusion works as it always has, automatically shutting of Macdrive which leads me to think that Macdrive may be the culprit. Gonna try disabling it completely while running virtual and see if that makes it work. If not it'll just be another aspect of my Mac that Apple updates have made useless.

  • How to find all audio and photo files?

    My system stats say I have 400 megs of photos and 1.95 GB of audio.  I have not put anything on this computer yet.  It's brand new.  I want to erase all the crap I don't need so I have maximum space for shooting photos and videos.  I can't find what this audio and photo crap is from.  I have searched in finder for any format I can think of and I just can't find them.  How can I track down this stuff?
    Also does anybody know roughly how much space is typically used on a brand new Mackbook Pro 15" out of the box with all the OS stuff?
    Thanks.

    There is a program call Grand Perspective that will scan your drive and show where everything is located. You can create filters for the things to scan for and list. It presents a graphical presentation based on file size and location on the drive. Hovering over an item will show the name, size, and where on the hard drive it is located.
    Filtering for Images and Audio, I had 1.95 GB in the Library folder. Most was in the Application Support folder.

  • How to find all images in AI file.

    I was given a complex children's logo (below) in AI format. When placing it in ID, I started getting resolution warnings. After some digging, it turns out that the person who created this used images instead of gradients for only some of the objects. I'm not sure why someone would do this instead of just creating the gradients in AI. However, I now need to find and replace all these images. Is there an easy way to locate the images?

    to expand on that theory. i just tested it and yes, it work. Select one, hold shift to select them all in the pallette.. then select "goto links".

  • How can I find all documents encrypted by a certain application?

    I don't think Spotlight can help with this, so I am trying to use the ordinary Command-F(ind).
    I know there's a parameter option "Created by [application]" but that doesn't work, even though the Info window shows the Kind as this application.
    The specifics:
    Under System 9, I encrypted a lot of files (personal correspondence, mainly) using Sentinel 2.2. In other words, I used Sentinel to require a password to open those files.
    Now I can't open them, because that program doesn't work with Sys X.
    I could open them in Sys 9 and then resave them without the encryption. But I need to find them all.
    (I want to handle them all now, rather than over the next few decades when one might pop up now and then. I won't have Sys 9 forever.)
    I can't find any perameter option to use (in Find) that will locate these files. I have a suspicion that maybe the reason searching on the creator application doesn't work is because Sentinel didn't technically create the documents, it only encrypted existing documents—although in the Info window, Sentinel is shown as the Kind. If it's any help, also shown in the Info window is the version: "Sentinel 2.2, © 1987-89 Supermac Technology."
    Sentinel put it's own icon on all the locked files.
    Seems like it should be easy to do a search to find all these files, but I can't figure out how.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Larry

    You should be able to do it, but first you'll need to get a unique piece of metadata for the files, and then you'll need to use the Raw Query format in the Find window. I have a handy little utility written by a cyber-friend I keep in the Dock for getting the metadata entries for a file, and I think there are other free ones on VersionTracker, but you can also use Terminal to get the relevant entries. Thus I have some old Excel files. To locate all of them, I would do this:
    1. Open Terminal (it is in your Utilities folder) and type
    mdls
    and a space. Then drag and drop one of your files into the Terminal window and hit the Return key. The result will look something like this:
    NoobiX:~ francine$ mdls /Volumes/Data/BackUp/8600drives/FastMac/Documents/Finances/Finances1995
    /Volumes/Data/BackUp/8600drives/FastMac/Documents/Finances/Finances1995

    kMDItemContentCreationDate = 1996-03-13 01:27:46 -0800
    kMDItemContentModificationDate = 1996-03-13 02:08:03 -0800
    kMDItemContentType = "com.microsoft.excel.xls"
    kMDItemContentTypeTree = ("com.microsoft.excel.xls", "public.data", "public.item")
    kMDItemDisplayName = "Finances1995"
    kMDItemFSContentChangeDate = 1996-03-13 02:08:03 -0800
    kMDItemFSCreationDate = 1996-03-13 01:27:46 -0800
    kMDItemFSCreatorCode = 1480803660
    kMDItemFSFinderFlags = 256
    kMDItemFSInvisible = 0
    kMDItemFSIsExtensionHidden = 0
    kMDItemFSLabel = 0
    kMDItemFSName = "Finances1995"
    kMDItemFSNodeCount = 0
    kMDItemFSOwnerGroupID = 501
    kMDItemFSOwnerUserID = 501
    kMDItemFSSize = 6954
    kMDItemFSTypeCode = 1481397044
    kMDItemID = 58528
    kMDItemKind = "Microsoft Excel 4.0 worksheet"
    kMDItemLastUsedDate = 2007-08-01 12:15:22 -0700
    kMDItemUsedDates = (1996-03-13 02:08:03 -0800, 2007-07-31 17:00:00 -0700)
    2. Since I want to find all the old Excel files, I chose the line
    kMDItemKind = "Microsoft Excel 4.0 worksheet"
    You can just drag to select that line with the Mouse, then select copy.
    3. In the Find window criterion drop down menu, select Other, then scroll down to Raw Query, select it, and then paste the kMDItemKind line you copied into the open field. That should do it.

  • How do I find the files in all folders named Camera 1?

    Is there a way to search and find all of the video files in a certaint folder name? For example: I have many folders in different directories labled as Camera 1. I would like to be able to search for the files in all folders named Camera 1, but exclude any similar file types that might exist in other folders such as Camera 2, Camera 3, etc... Is there any way to do this?

    You should be able to sort by file name, file size, or last modified date by clicking the column heading. If the column headings are gone or you do not have all those details, there might be a way to reset your FireFTP settings but I've never researched it.
