Restore of souce system - What does it do?

Dear all,
I'm looking for some documentation about what happens if I use "Source System - Restore" in RSA1.
Any idea?
Best regards from Burghausen (Bavaria),

what does restor back up mean?/what does it do

it stores all the data on your device in another place so that you can restore from it if a problem happens (say your device crashes or gets erased). then all your data is restored to your iPhone/iPod/iPad/Mac.

  • Restoring an iPod Mini-What does this do?

I've posted a few questions due to the fact that my Mini no longer updates when I plug it into my Mac. It charges but the icon doesn't appear on the desktop and iTunes does recognize my iPod. (Though I've been putting that off awaiting a miracle.)
Anyway nothing seems working and the only thing I haven't tried is "Restore". I know this is basically a reset on the iPod; that it returns to the state it was in when it left the factory. Least that's the idea.
My question is how is restoring done? If my computer isn't recognizing my iPod, will I be able to restore it? From the little bit of research I've done, it looks like you go through the computer's utilities. If this is so, am I boned anyway?
    Yours in Frustration,
    Brian

    Have you seen this?
iPod does not appear in iPod Updater or iTunes in Mac OS X.

  • What does the restore settings do?, what does the restore settings do?

hello , one of my friends updated my iPod to the new iOS 7. It wasnt such a good idea. But im now restoring it. And im worried when i restore it something mite happen to my iPod touch 5th Gen. would the apple company be able to fix it if i take it in?

You might not be able to restore the iPod and you may have to get your friend to get iOS 6.1.3 back on the iPod
Apple will not hlep since y have a bootleg copy of iOS 7 on your iPod.

  • Disk Utility: What does "scan image for restore" do?

Before restoring a disk image, I know that I need to use Disk Utility's "Scan Image for Restore…" feature.
Exactly what does this feature do?

    I asked because I didn't know.
I was helping someone upgrade his PowerMac G5 from the original 80GB hard drive to a 1TB drive.
Since the G5 can accommodate two internal drives, I could have simply added the new drive and used Disk Utility's "restore" feature to migrate his data directly from the old drive to the new drive.
But it was more convenient for me to work at home so I removed the old drive, and brought it home along with the new drive.
I couldn't connect both drives to my MacBook Pro, since I only have one SATA drive dock. So I did it like this:
    1. Connected the old drive to my SATA dock.
    2. Create a disk image from his old drive, saving it to an external USB drive.
    3. Disconnected the old drive from the SATA dock and connected the new one.
    4. Restore the disk image to the new drive
Of course, when I tried step 4, I got an error message about needing to do a scan first. That's what led me to this question.
I have a follow-up question: When I created the image, I didn't bother changing the default image format, which is "compressed." If I had given the matter a little thought, I could have created a read-only image, since I would never need to change the image.
If I had used read-only, would Disk Utility have created the checksums on-the-fly when it created the disk image?

  • What does Apple mean by "For best battery performance, leave your device connected to a power source until the restore is complete."

I just recently returned an IPad air and exchanged it for another. I first set up this new one as a new IPad but then deleted all content and settings right away (since I wasn't getting the progress I had made in apps and games) in order to restore it from my previous IPad Air. I then checked after on how to backup via icloud and saw this line under the subtitle of how to restore from a backup, "For best battery performance, leave your device connected to a power source until the restore is complete." What does Apple mean by "for best battery performance"? Im just a bit worried of issues.
p.s. And yes I did have it connected to the power. And the ios is the default ios for new IPad Airs.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It only means you should restore whilst it is connected to a power supply, so that your battery doesn't go flat during the process.

    Xaq,
Here is the comment that was passed about the error source: Comm Analyzer - CP Analog - Adjust Input Level.vi:CP RX Audio Muting.vi
The application has been working fine for about 12 years, it continues to serve its purpose and the RF test equipment rack components are now obsoleted by newer models but it's still in weekly use and is kept calibrated annually but on occasion it unexpectedly throws an error like this while I'm using the test rack during a wireless RF parametrics test and it leaves me wondering if the root cause is the device under test or the test rack.  That's why I was hoping to find a detailed description about the error code.

  • What does this message mean? "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"

What does this message mean? "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"  I get this when I try to repair permissions in disk utility.

It's an innocuous error you can ignore. It was introduced with previous updates for ARD and/or Java before Lion. These are messages, not errors. They will cause no harm, and they will be repeated each time you repair permissions.

  • I am a forensic examiner with an iPod 5G in Recovery Mode. As a 'non Apple' person, what does 'restore' imply with reference to the 5G? Does it affect any data on teh iPod, like pics, and videos?

As stated in the title, I am a forensic examiner, although most of my work is on Windows devices. My problem is an iPod 5G with Touch Wheel that I received to exam, and I have not been able to get anything from conventional methods. But not really understanding enough about the Apple architecture and iPods, when I plug it into a computer, it appears to be in Recovery Mode, and calls for a Restore. The questions I have are:
    1) How does the iPod get into Recovery mode
    2) How to get it out of Recovery mode
    3) But more importantly, what does Restore do to the device? If there happen to be items of interest (pics, videos, etc), does the restore affect them?

    - You can place the iPod in recovery mode by:
    Recovery mode
or by using this program (there are others too)
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - Many internal errors in the iPod resul in the iPod going automaticlly (default) into recovery mode.
    - Usual method is to restore the iPod via iTunes to get the iPod our of recovery mode.
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
Sometime RecBoot will do it if the iPod was intentionally placed in recovery mode
    - Unless RecBoot or similar will get the iPod put of recovery mode the iPod will be erased. Restoring the iPod erases the iPod.
    - For more inbfo on recovery mode see:

I would like to know which app/software in MAC gives us the same feature that is provided by System Restore in Windows, and how does that work.

Time Machine is one such program, although it is a recursive backup program which offers limited archive capability, based on the capacity of the backup destination, and it requires you set it up before you start editing your files.   Some programs are also Versions aware, which offers a kind of restore capability by file.  Again needs to be setup before you start editing.
    Just a for-your-info:
Mac is not an acronym, it is a nickname for Macintosh.

  • My itunes store is saying that it could not contact the server, it says i need to restore my ipod but when i go to restore it, it says the server could not be contacted or something. what does this mean?

okay so last night i went to charge my ipod in the computer and it started working then i took it out of the computer and put it on a wall charger and it had a spasm attack and shut itself down, after that it said i had to connect it to itunes so when i did it kept telling me that i need to restore my ipod, but when i press restore the itunes said "the contact server is not avalible" or something similar to that, what does that actually mean and is there anyway i can fix my ipod. i have dropped my ipod a few times, on tiles, wood, in a gutter of water when it fell out my pocket but im also wondering is it something to do with my ipod or is it itunes?

    Try:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
The abuse may prevent a restore or prevent proper operation of the iPod if you can restore the iPod.
