Restoring an ipod touch backup to a different ipod touch - Is it possible ? How, please !

We have 2 ipod touches. My sons glass broke, I backed it up to my laptop this morning. I want to restore his backup to his little sisters ipod touch while his is fixed. Is this possible ?  I backed up both of them this morning to the laptop figuring that while his was being fixed, he could use hers as his till his gets back. She is 4 and will survive a week without her ipod. He is 10 and will not survive a week without his. I have already mailed his off to the repair center, so now I would ideally restore the backup of his ipod to hers after possibly formatting hers if need be. He has no music, but about 600 game apps with game data. Hopefully the backup saves app data as well, guess I should ask that as well.  As you can tell, I am new to the ipod thing, but Daddy always get called on to make things work, so hopefully someone can give me some good news.
THANKS !!!

I stand by my position.  You'd be teaching him that, when bad things happen, someone else will take the fall.
How is your daughter going to feel about this?  Will she tell you or will she keep it inside?  Will she quietly wonder why you give priority to her brother?
My children are my legacy to this world...

...And so on and so on and so on.

  • HT201250 How do I restore from Timeline external backup to a different drive?

Good day!  Here's my current architecture
    1 MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.2
1 Lacie Rugged External Drive (1T)
    1 G Drive 2T RAID
    1 MyPassport External Drive (2T)
I have been backing up weekly both the MacBook Pro AND the Lacie to the RAID Device.
Lacie Rugged: My Lacie has my iTunes.  Recently there have been issues with communicating with the Lacie.  Genius bar says there is an issue with the drive itself.  I purchased a new Firewire to troubleshoot.  Still shows that the drive accidentally disconnects (e.g. not available) after about a couple of minutes.
So I bought a new drive.
Restore: When I plug in my new MyPassport and access my Timeline backups, I cannot see the Lacie backups to restore.  It seems that Timeline requires the original drive (Lacie) to be plugged in (which is the one I am having issues with).
Question: How do I restore from a backup(Lacie) to my new external drive(MyPassport)?

I imagine you mean Time Machine, not TimeLine. If you do mean Timeline, I have no idea what that is.

  • HT1212 My ipod is disabled and i did everything this has told me to do , i restored my ipod & its still disabled ! How do i fix it ?

My ipod has been disabled for about 3-4 months now , and i decided i was gonna fix today , so i did as it tells you to "Connect to ITunes" so i did and it tells me it cant connect to itunes because it is blocked with a password and it says to unlock it to connect , so i clicked "More information" and it says to connect my ipod to computer and restore , well i connected it to the computer , waited 20 minutes and restored it & it is still disabled !

    Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPod
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPod
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPod
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPod. Data will be lost if you do not have backup.

How do u restore an iPod touch 5.
I have been trying to restore my ipod and i cant tell how. It has been disabled for a week and i really want to restore it sooner rather then later.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • Restoring from RMAN tablespace backup ; Few questions

    11.2.0.3/RHEL 5.8
We have a RAC DB which is used by more than 20 applications. One schema for each application and one tablespace for each schema.
We have a schema with 130gb in size. All Objects in this schema use a single tablespace MCS_DATA.
This weekend we are applying some changes involving DDL, Code and Data .Usually we take an expdp backup of the schema before the activity starts and later if something goes wrong with script deployment we'll revert to old state by dropping the schema and doing an impdp from the expdp backup.
    Question1.
Can we do an RMAN tablespace only backup and if something goes wrong with script deployment can we drop the schema and the tablespace and then create an empty schema and then restore from the tablespace backup ?
    Question2.
If the above is possible , can you explain how it is going to work out because we are essentially plugging (restore, recover) in a tablespace to the database. Any potential problems ?
Question3. If the above (Question1) is possible, will restore/recover of this tablespace require a downtime for the entire DB ?

    Tom;
If you are talking about RMAN TSPITR then yes you can. See - Purpose of RMAN TSPTIR in Backup and Recovery User's Guide E10642-03.
The problem with TSPTIR is bulk. You need a lot of disk space to create a copy and then data pump the information out and back in. I just tested this on 11.2.0.3 and its slow. RMAN created a script which produced an AUX instance and did the data pump, but I had clean up afterwards. If it errors out you can have an AUX instance hanging out in the background.
For TSPTIR you will need an area on the disk to server as an auxiliary destination large enough to hold what you are recovering plus the SYSTEM, UNDO and TEMP tablespaces.
I would probably look at Transportable tablespaces as a possible option too.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25054_01/backup.1111/e10642/rcmttbsb.htm
E10642-03 has a section for recovering a tablespace in chapter 2. The Tablespace must be offline, but the database can be up.
This uses "restore tablespace" and "recover tablespace" commands. You would perform this type of recovery when you are say missing a datafile. You can recover any tablespace except SYSTEM and UNDO with this.
Data Pump might be an option too, but given your tablespace size I would have worries about recovery time. Oracle lets you set compression
and a limit to each file produced.
    expdp TABLESPACES=YOUR_DATA dumpfile=DATA_PUMP_DIR:ts_dumps_%U.dmp LOGFILE=DATA_PUMP_DIR:ts_dumps_log.log parallel=2 filesize=10G compression=ALL
Given the size of your database a better option might be something like Data Guard as your recovery time would be brutal.

  • Restoring iCloud's iPhone Backup to an iPod Touch

    Hi there.
My last birthday wasn't precisely the best, as I got my iPhone 4 stolen.
Had to deal with an Android device which isn't nearly as good as what I was used to have, so I decided to buy this fancy iPod Touch 4G 64 gb until the new iPhone arrives and see how it fares. My idea is to leave the Android phone only to make/answer calls and tether internet to the iTouch.
Problem is, I was thinking about restoring the stolen iPhone's iCloud backup to the iPod Touch so I didn't have to fiddle around with settings and stuff (and to not loose all my Chrono Trigger's advance ), but can't seem to be able to do that. I'm aware that those two are different devices and some things wouldn't work (like whatsapp without a proper mobile number), but it seems like a nonsense to me if you can't transfer the backup between two devices that are more or less the same.
I hope someone knows if there's a way to restore my iPhone's backup to the iTouch.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I finally managed to do that, weird thing is I had to wipe and restore the iPod Touch's and sync it with iCloud at the very beggining of the setup, obviously whatsapp doesn't work with the iTouch so it got automatically deleted, but for everything is Ok, I find the iTouch to be a tad slower than the iPhone though and miss the flash, but that's how it goes by now.

  • I did a backup on my iPod touch and it said it worked...but now it won't let me access anything and says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this IPod before it can be used."  I will lose all my videos and pics if I do that

I did a backup on my iPod touch last night and it said it worked...I wanted to make sure my 1100 pictures and videos, mostly of my son, were safe since we rarely use the iPod touch anymore since we bought an iPad...I can't find them or I have no idea how to access them...I do not have a MAC...I have an HP computer with windows...
Now when I try to use my iTunes a message comes up that says my iPod is on recovery mode and has to do a restore to use my iTunes again...so when u click on that it states that pushing that button will restore my iPod touch to its factory settings...which means I will lose all my data...which I CANNOT do bc the videos of my son are some of his first words, first giggles, etc.
Now my iPod is stuck on a screen with a picture of a USB cord and an iTunes icon... and holding the power and push buttons down at the same time does nothing except bring up the apple icon for a moment and then it goes right back to the USB and iTunes icon
When I called Apple they said in order to talk to tech support I had to pay a fee of 19 dollars...which I think is kind of crap...I paid over 300 dollars for this and all I want is somebody to help me access my pics...I have done nothing wrong...this iPod was never dropped and never broke...I did the backup like I was supposed to and now I have an IPod touch that does nothing, and if my library of pics and videos are on my computer, I have no clue where or how to view them or back them up onto DVD....
I'm very upset and frustrated...please help!!!

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • HT1414 If I Restore my iPod Touch, will I be able to restore to a backup afterwards (in the process of updating to iOS 5 in the event of error code -43)

I have just got ready to sync to a new computer (my old one got restored and all backups were lost ) and update to iOS 5.
I finally manage to recreate my old iTunes library on my new computer and transfer my purchases, sync my iPod an dback it up.
With all that done, I go on to update to iOS 5... But low and behold I get error code -43 "An error occurred while backing up this iPod-43 Would you like to continue to updte this iPod? Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod"
I have seen this solution to the problem on another section of the forum:
    ---dex12
This solved my questionRe: iOS Update error  -43
I restored my phone to original setting. (backed up before I did this)
It then installed iOS 5 automatically, and then I got the option to set up as a new phone or use last back up...so didn't lose anything.----
I have backed up my iPod touch, and am ready to restore, but amm worried that if I do restore, I won't be able to restore back to my backup afterwards, this will mean losing some data. I just need confirmation that I will be able to get "the option to set up as a new phone or use last back up," as i really don't want to restore and find myself with an empty iPod.
If it possible to do this, please coudl someone post a step-by-step guide on how to update using the afformentioned method, just to give me (and many others) peace of mind.

When you restore an iOS device the IOS version that will be on the iPod after the restore is the latest available for that model device. For the 4G iPod that would be 6.1.6

  • I had to restore my ipod touch 4g last night, and now my music interace is different. Can I change it back?

I had to restore my ipod touch 4g last night. After I got it restored, I noticed two things: I now have an app called "passport" and my music interface looks different. It's not drastically different, but I'm not happy with how it looks at all. Is there a way to change it back?

Your device was updated to iOS6. You will notice many changes. If you like, you can restore it back to iOS 5.1.1.

  • Restore new Ipod Touch from iPhone 4 backup...

I bought my son an iPod touch as he is constantly asking to play games on my iPhone 4. I want to transfer the games from my iPhone 4 to his iPod, including the save data. Is it possible for me to simply restore his new iPod from my latest iPhone backup? I can then delete any apps he would not be using, etc.

    yes.
in fact, when you connect the Touch to iTunes for the 1st time, you should be asked if you want the back up of your iPhone to be restored to the Touch.

  • How can I restore my iPod touch data to a new hard drive when the old one crashed

My computer crashed and I want to put the contents of my iPod Touch back on the new hard drive. How do I do this without accidentally Syncing and copying over my data? The vast majorioty of the music on my iPod is my own from DCs I own.

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.
