Restoring from iPhone 5 to iPhone 6 Plus issue

Yesterday, I received my iPhone 6 Plus in the mail via AT&T.  Before I started with the new phone, I checked my current phone, iPhone 5, and it showed a iCloud backup from earlier that day.
I chose to use iTunes to backup my iPhone 5 and selected the 'Use Encrypted Backup' option because I wanted it to remember passwords and other things that an iCloud backup would not to make the transition easier.
After I started the backup, it took about 5 minutes to complete and then about 2 or so hours to copy all of the apps off my iPhone to my computer via USB cable.  I hadn't used iTunes to backup my iphone since my iPhone 3G with older iOS many years ago. Once the iCloud backup option was there, I used that.
So, once it copied all my apps and I was satisfied that the backup was complete, I turned on the iPhone 6 Plus.  Once it got to the spot where it asks if I want to set it up as a new phone or restore from an existing phone, I chose that and told it to restore from an iTunes backup. It prompted me to connect the cable and away it went. It did say that there was an update to 8.0.2, but I chose not to update at the time figuring it may cause issues, so I simply skipped that step planning on updating the iOS after I had my phone restored and ready to go.   It started the restore and the phone restarted twice and then came up to the "Welcome" screen to set it up. iTunes said it was going through a sync, which I expected, to copy over all my photos, ringtones, and apps that were backed up. However, the process seemed to stall on Step 6 of 6 "Waiting for changes to be applied."   I let it sit about 2.5 hours or so and there was no change in the message nor any indication that it was doing anything.  In the iPhone details in iTunes, I could see that it had all my screens set correctly and showed all the apps, but they were grayed out like they weren't there. Indeed, when looking at the phone, it had only the stock apps showing.
I figured something happened with the restore, so I wiped the phone and started over.  This time, I let it update to iOS 8.0.2 since my previous iPhone 5 backup was from iOS 8.0.2.  Though the same thing happened again where it stalled at Step 6 of 6 "Waiting for changes to be applied."  I again let it sit about 1.5 hours with no change at all.
So, for a third time, I wiped the phone and started over. I let it update to 8.0.2 and it did its thing with syncing.. It again seemed to stall at step 6 of 6 "Waiting for changes to be applied."  After 30 minutes with no indication of it doing anything, I clicked on the stop sync option. I saw all my phone screens with my app layout correct in iTunes. So, I hit the Sync button. this time, after getting to Step 6 of 6, it showed it was copying over photos from my computer, my ringtones, and then each app to my phone.  When the sync was completed, I disconnected the phone and everything looked right. I could connect to my iCloud account.. All my email accounts were set up and I didn't have to enter the password. My iMessages were there.  Everything looked good.
The only concern I have is that I never actually got a "Restore Complete" message.  I'm guessing its because I technically stopped the initial sync after the restore.   Or does it not show that and the restore was actually completed when it rebooted my phone twice and brought up the "Welcome" screen where you set a few of the options like wi-fi, location services, etc.   When I go into my iCloud settings in to the backups, there is no message there saying that a restore is in progress.  It did show that before when I looked when the previous attempts stalled at Step 6 of 6.
Is this something I should be concerned about or since everything looks to be working properly its good to go?

I am having the same issue!  I received my new iPhone 6 plus from atnt yesterday at 10am ... activated it and asked phone to restore from my sprint iPhone5s backup at 10:30 am.  It is now 2:17pm the next day and most of the apps that are incomplete are still incomplete right now.  What can I do to fix this or do I have to just wait?

  • Need Urgent help please? I need to restore from a previous iphone backup.

Oops, I admit it - I messed up but need help please?? I received a replacement iphone today. My broken iphone OS and my itunes had the latest software updates and I did a full backup before going to the store to get the rerplacement. However, when I got home with the replacement iphone and plugged it in, it asked if I wanted to update the OS on it. I made the mistake of saying yes. It then made a backup of the empty factory settings from the new replacement and restored from that rahter than the backup I made before going to the store. Yes I know I should have said no and just did the restore which would have resotred my previous backup that I made before going to the store. Then after everything would be allright I could have told it to update the OS.
You can slap my in the face or I will do it myslef for making such a stupid mistake. All ready did the "I should have had a V" thing to my forehead.
After seeing the restore was fromthe factory settings rather than my earlier good backup, I went into my documents and drilled down to the mobile sync backup and saw that one of the three folders (with giberish as a title) has a lot of information with the date and time I did the backup before going to the store.
Could I possibly delete the later (factory setting backup) folder and then do a restore to get my good backup onto the iphone? I didn't do that yet in fear that it might mess something else up on the iphone and I wanted to check with you experts here first for guidance and assistance, PLEASE?
I'll be anxiously awaiting any help you can give!
    Thank you!!

It took me a long time to get back to the dissucison group because I tried both of your suggestions which therfore had to do about 4 restores. They take quite a while (about 50 minutes each actually). Your help got me half way there and is very apprecaited! I did manage (with your excellent help) to get most of my backup put onto the replaced iphone. the photos, music, and videos didn't get put over. I think I can move those back over by making sure they are selected in the seperate tabbed screens for the iphone. However, I can't get to those screens because every time I connect the iphone now, it brings up the "set up your phone screen". The one with the "an iphone has been previously synced with this compter" setup as new phone or restore from ....
Well I did the resotre from 3 times and that page still comes up when I plug in the iphone. Yes, I did close itunes, reboot the PC, and powered off the iphone and then brouhgt it back up before connecting (all several times), but itunes still takes me to the same "setup iphone screen".
Can you help me to get it to the standard iphone screen and there I will make sure the selected items are checked and do a sync.
Please know I do appreicate your kind assistance so far and hope someone can get me the rest of the way!
The "Backup" do not store your Applications, Music, Video's. It saves your settings, your application preferences, etc.

  • IPhone Refuses to restore from backup after iPhone OS 3.0 -Please Help!

I have a 3G iphone I backed it up on itunes and then installed OS 3.0. I tried to restore from the back up but it refused to giving me the error message 14. Additionally my phone is locked and I am unable to use it except to make emergency calls.

Try placing your iPhone into recovery mode. If successful, this will require restoring your iPhone with iTunes.

  • How come my new iPhone 5 won't restore from my old iPhone 5?

I went to the apple store yesterday because my old iPhone 5's battery was messed up. They had me restore it and start it as a new phone to make sure that it was the phone not the stuff on the phone. Today I went back in and showed them that it was the phone that was messed up not the stuff on the phone. They gave me a knew iPhone 5 and I came home to restore it from my old iPhone 5. My old iPhone 5's software is up to date and the software is not old. I plugged my new iPhone into my computer and it keeps popping up saying, "The backup “Kalea's iPhone” cannot be restored to this iPhone because the software on the iPhone is too old." Why isn't it working?

  • No Camera App after restore from backup on iphone 4

OK so I backedup my iphone 3g which was on 312 on itunes 9.2 before my iphone 4 arrived today. I restored from backup and all of my apps restored. I can't seem to find the camera app! It's driving me crazy that I am trying restore the iphone 4 as a new phone but downloading the iOS4 firmware for iphone 4 is taking more than 3 hours for some reason.
    Has anyone seen this?

Why not? If old data is recovered by restoring, then new data after last back up lose. If keep new data after last back up remain, lost old data can't be regained, even may be user's lack of knowledge, iPhone should not be for the people of one class...I am really sad for all who suffer the lost of their hearts (valuable data that can never be recalled) like me. How can I continue to use idevices?????

  • How do I restore from backup on iPhone 4S?

I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5 on Wednesday and last synced it with my Mac on Thursday night at 11:30pm before going to bed.  I bought the iPhone 4S on Friday morning and started it as a new iPhone.  I think that I did something wrong, because I never saw the option to "Restore From Backup" so that I could port over my last iPhone 4 with iOS 5 back up.  Can someone tell me if/how I can do this?  Maybe I need to restore my 4S and start over. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks Bryan.  Sorry to sound like such an idiot.  The first time I tried that, but backup options didn't auto populate.  I restored the 4S and followed your advice above.  Worked like a charm.

  • HT4623 I have a new handset as my previous one was damaged. With regards to backing everything which option do I choose when backing up, set up as a new iphone or, restore from this backup  iphone?

I have a new hanset as my previous one ws damaged and everything was lost.  When backing up which option should I use "set up as a new iphone or, restore from this , back up Jo's iphone"..
    Thanks.

You may do whatever you like.
If you want to set it up using the backup of your old iphone then choose that.
If you do not then choose as new.

  • How to restore from icloud to iphone

I back up to the iCloud daily from my iPhone 3GS. I need to get my Notes restored because I deleted one of my important notes by accident.  How is this done?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can restore from iTunes using the restore as new phone option or from the device from settings > general > reset > Erase All......
Once you have restored and enter the set up assistant take the restore from iCloud back up option.

  • Restore from Time Machine after FileValut issues

    Hi,
I foolishly converted my personal folder (including iTunes library) to Filevalut over the weekend. Due to the size it is causing issues and making my Mac incredibly slow and unusable... I should have moved the large files out of my personal folder first.
Yesterday I turned filevalut off, then more than 15 hours later it still said "preparing" - which I guess means it's crashed and is not unencrypting. It seems my best option now would be to restore from a pre-Filevalut backup.
Does anyone know if I now try to restore from a time machine backup taken BEFORE my original file valut encryption - will this work OK or will filevalut have deleted history in my Time machine?
    thanks
    Matthew

Hello, I personally don't use TM, but...
Have you looked through Pondini's extensive TM help site?

Can't imagine something not being covered there.

  • Can't restore from iCloud with iPhone (iOS 6.0.1) if backup was made using iOS 6.1

I lost my iPhone, got a new one then I was grateful a was using iCloud but...
iOS 6.0.1 won't allow me to restore my last backup because it was made using ios 6.1.
There is not way to select this backup. Luckily for me, there is still a old backup made using iOS 6.0.1.
So I reconfigured the iPhone as a new phone, updated the software to 6.1.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4036
Unfortunately, in order to restore a backup from the cloud, I had to reset the phone. So It went back to iOS 6.0.1
Is there a different way to retrieve a backup from iCloud?

If you plug it into a computer to install the update and then the backup, it should work. (At least, it did with my 4th Gen iTouch).

  • Lost photos during a restore from backup on iPhone 4

This evening I lost important photos taken this past weekend when I tried to restore text messages to my iPhone 4. I didn't sync my phone prior to performing the restore. My last back-up was on 6/12. I restored everything from 6/12 and before, but lost everything from 6/13 and on. Can my photos be located and restored to my phone?

  • How to restore from icloud to iphone 4

    Hi
I just noticed that some contacts are missing from my Iphone 4 and someone else's are on there!! I recently sold a phone so don't know if it's something to do with that so a bit worried.
My iphone was last backed up yesterday and I was wondering if I can get the lost contacts back through ICloud and not having to wait to plug it in to Itunes when I get home from work.
Thanks to anyone who can help

    Good Morning margiepoo,
I understand you recently sold your iPhone and on your existing iPhone 4 you are seeing data that isn't yours.  If you did not erase the iPhone before selling it, the resource below will provide some steps for erasing the content remotely and removing the device from your account.  I would also suggest changing your Apple ID password.

Margie, if you go to www.icloud.com, do you see all of your contacts there?  If not, you should be able to restore your phone from your most recent iCloud backup.
