Restricted mode in rac

Hi, in our RAC environment, we are enabling egach instance in RESTRICT mode to block incoming connections. But we need specific users to login with restricted session privilege. This is okay with single instance, but with RAC, all users cannot connect. What should be the problem? Thanks

It works just fine with me in 11.2.0.4. My instances are in restricted mode and yet I can connect locally.
SQL> select instance_number,logins

So it works in 11.2.0.4 just fine. I'll ask one more time.... "please post the exact steps taken and the exact error messages." Otherwise I can't be of much help.
Cheers,

  • How to put RAC database in restricted mode?is it with srvctl?

I know for standalone database its
SQL> startup restrict --if its down
SQL> alter system enable restricted session; --if its up
Any idea for RAC ? any option with srvctl ? what are the steps .....
    Thanks in advance for help
    Gagan

    Hi
There is no option like that. It's as same as keeping normal database in restricted mode.
    alter database enable restricted session;
    and end with
    alter database disable restricted session.

  • Database Started In Restricted Mode...

    Dear Exports,
We are using Oracle 10gR2 on Windows server 2008. My database size is approximately 2tb. Now we are going to setup Dataguard for our primary. We started the database with the changer parameters for dataguard and create spfile from pfile. And started the database with Spfile. But after some time i noticed that the database started automatically in Restricted mode. As in our database Previously dataguard was configured, due to the some problem that setup is not working and the logs are not applied in Standby server. I thought may be for this reason database going to restricted mode automatically so i set the log_archive_dest_state_2='DEFFER' and Now I scanned the whore alert.log file and found the same situation of restricted is happening from Jan 2010. Please Suggest some solution how i can over come the problem.
The alertlog when i started the database recently...

You have following choices to free up space from flash recovery area:
    1. Consider changing RMAN RETENTION POLICY. If you are using Data Guard,
then consider changing RMAN ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY.
    2. Back up files to tertiary device such as tape using RMAN
    BACKUP RECOVERY AREA command.
    3. Add disk space and increase db_recovery_file_dest_size parameter to
    reflect the new space.
    4. Delete unnecessary files using RMAN DELETE command. If an operating
system command was used to delete files, then use RMAN CROSSCHECK and
    DELETE EXPIRED commands.

    1. Consider changing RMAN RETENTION POLICY. If you are using Data Guard,

  • How to put database in RESTRICTED mode ?

    Hi,

    Many thanks before.

SQL>As you can see from V$INSTANCE, when you are running in restricted mode LOGINS will have a value of 'RESTRICTED'
However - I still think that if you are dealing with users logging in to your (RESTRICTED) database via the listener then the easiest option is to stop the listener whilst the database is down and restart it once your alter database command has completed.
PS : No any other user is connected. No, they wouldn't be this time because you had quiesced the database... but you still need to get the database into restricted mode for this alter database command.

  • Monitor database in restrict mode

    hello everybody,
is there a way to see session activity information in Top Activity window when database is in restricted mode? Monitored database, OMS and agent are all 10.2.0.3.
So far I have tried to grant restricted session to dbsnmp but it didn't help.
    thx for any suggestion

    hi Alan,
I have tried to connect as sysdba to database but it shows no data. I also reconfigured the database target properties to be monitored through sys (as sysdba) but didn't work either.

  • AWR Snapshots Required When Database is in Restricted Mode

We are planning to run some processes, but want the database to be in restricted mode to keep "normal" users out.
But we also need to monitor performance on the system during that. Normally however, scheduled jobs such as this don't run in restricted mode.
Does anyone know of any way of still (preferably automatically) running the AWR snapshots when the database (Version 10.1.0.5) is in restrict mode.
I know this may be a little off-topic for this forum, but it was the nearest I could find.
    Any information gratefully received.

    Hi,
Unfortunately this is not possible in version 10.1 .
In 10.2.0.4 (when it is released) and 11g it is possible to allow this using the ALLOW_RUNS_IN_RESTRICTED_MODE boolean job attribute.
In prior releases no jobs will run when the database is in restricted mode.
    Thanks,
    Ravi.

    Hi all,
I am trying to connect to Oracle10.2.0.2 in solaris9 as
    conn sys/password@dbname as sysdba
but after this attempt it showing
ORA-12526: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are in restricted mode

    conn sys/password as sysdba
    it works.
Can some one give me the solution for the same?
    Thanks
    Vipin

    Hi,
When you want to connect to database there are majorly two kinds of protocols are involve
    1. TCP and
    2. IPC
when you are talking about <username>/<password>@<servername > then though you are on same server you are refering to TCP protocol and when you are talking about <username>/<password> then you are refering to IPC protocol
now here when you are going to connect to your database through
    conn sys/password as sysdba
its working fine because you are using IPC and if you connect through
    conn sys/password@dbname as sysdba
it will show you error because you are using Listener TCP.
So i think that you need to check your listener status and database status both and give the output.
    Thanks

    Hi Srini,
Thanks for your reply. I have referred this document before scheduling the downtime. I haven't enabled the maintenance mode yet as i just wanted to see if the downtime page comes up before enabling the maintenance mode and subsequent patch application.
I have followed step 6 as mentioned in the document, except that i have skipped the point 3(Enable Maintenance mode).
Strangely this is working on one instance and does not work on the other, instance1 and instance2 are perfectly same. we have a 2 tier architecture. Are both instances on the same patchset level?
What if you don't skip enabling maintenance mode, does this make a difference?
Please also make sure you review (Managing Downtime in Restricted Mode from OAM [ID 364236.1]).

What kind of bizarre misfeature is that? I have a 50D, and I don't believe it has any such mode. Have you tried taking out the battery and reverting the camera to its factory settings? What does the manual say on the subject? If the camera didn't come with one, you should be able to find it on the Canon Web site.
I think it's some kind of display model mode, and specific to certain models like the 40D and 1d3.  I don't know much about it, but looked around because I was curious...  don't waste your time taking out the battery or formatting your drives.   Send it back if the seller didn't explicitly state it was in restricted mode.  Even if he did, but wasn't completely upfront about it's condition I think you have grounds to return it.  Otherwise, it has to go in to Canon, and that's going to cost more than it's worth.
    Matthew,
I don't disagree at all with Skirball's advice. If you can get your money back, you can rid yourself of a headache and start fresh. There must be lots of inexpensive 40Ds and 50Ds around. But if you need or want to give it one more shot, ...
The obvious way to impose a restrictive mode on a digital camera is to monkey with the firmware. If they did it by physically re-writing the image in the camera's memory, then you'll have to find a way to restore it to a factory version. This could be pretty hard, and it would almost certainly involve at least a direct USB connection to a computer. I don't see how you could make it re-write the firmware from a card if you couldn't first get by the password.
But another way that firmware mods are sometimes done is to write them on the CF card and fool the camera into looking there first. (A few years ago there was a very popular firmware mod, with versions for a variety of cameras, that worked that way.) But that kind of mod works only if the card is in the camera. So if your camera came with a CF card, and you've tried it only with that card installed, try putting in a freshly formatted card from another camera. Maybe you'll get lucky.
If all else fails, call Canon before you pitch the camera. (I've found their shop in Jamesburg, New Jersey to be very customer friendly.) If they happen to have a quick backdoor method of re-writing the firmware, maybe the repair wouldn't be all that expensive.

  • OWB in restricted mode issues.. anyone running successfully?

We are attempting to run OWB while our database is in restricted mode to allow us to do our updates while restricting other activity but we are running into what seems to be connection issues with the design and control centers. We have added (UR=A) to the tnsnames file and can connect from sqlplus as our design center owner, but I am wondering if some similiar modification is needed within an owb configuration as I know a lot of owb connections are set up using host:port:service and am not sure if somehow that needs a change as well to allow the connection or if that will pick up the change in the tnsnames as well. Anyone have any experience or success with running owb in restricted mode.
