Restricted my own privilges, thus cant access all my files on iBook!!!

If anyone can help me with this i would be eternally greatful! I havent been able to use my iBook for nearly 3 months now, and i miss having it as its got all my - well 'stuff' on it.
At Christmas time i installed my iPod onto my computer, i already had itunes, and already had had a mini iPod before so knew how to use it all. I added on alot of different music and the computer kept saying i had to erase some stuff as i was running out of space. so i went throughout the computer deleting things (i thought) i didnt need at all, including over half of my music collection. But the iBook just kept saying that i had no space no matter what i deleted. Then a few days later. when i logged on and connected my iPod all the music in my iTunes disappeared. I searched everywhere for it, within the computer memory i mean, and couldnt find anything.
After a few days looking at it and trying to figure out what i had done, also whilst reading my 'understanding mac' book i came across a section which said file/getinfo. Then i went into the section which said 'ownership and permissions' decided to set that just to myself. In the owner box, was my name and access was set to 'read and write'. Then i clicked the lock to the right hand side to set these changes. I thought (at the time) that maybe this would give me access to whereever my tunes were hiding.
When in actually fact what i ended up doing was restricting access of myself even though i am the registered owner and main permission holder. So when i signed in the next time all of my settings had gone back to factory settings. all as it was when i first purchased it. I could when looking through 'disk utility' see my old documents and files, itunes and pics etc. But everytime i tried to do anything, mt iBook keeps saying 'you do not permission to view these files' etc.
If anyone can help, i would be so grateful. iBooker in need!

One method is to enable root. There are a couple of great postings over at macosxhints.com on how to accomplish this. If you search for root enable on their site it will come up with the pages. You could then login as root and run repair permissions - this might not fix what you changed, but at least now you are king of the computer and can change whatever permissions you need to with the chown command.
With root you can see and change any and all files on the system. One reason to be careful what you do as root. You can really get in a pickle with the wrong command or flag, but in a case such as this it can really come in handy.

All apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that bought them. To stop your id from popping up, you need to delete the apps on his phone, and then repurchase them under his account.

Cant access all filters in PSE 10

Why is it that if I open an image in PSE 10 from lightroom3 I cant access all the tools in the Filter drop down? But if I open an image directly from PSE 10 - I can?

Most likely from lightroom the image is 16 bits/channel as mentioned by 99jon.
In photoshop elements certain functions such as some of filters will not work on 16 bits/channel documents.
Besides setting the preferences in lightroom to use 8 bits/channel images for opening in pse 10, once the image is open
in pse 10 you can go to Image>Mode and click where it says 8 bits/channel to convert the 16 bits/channel image
to 8 bits/channel. Then a lot more functions such as filters should work on your image.

Cant access other users files

When i log in i cant access other users files. a red symbol is on all of the files. if i could get some help it would be great.

Of course you can't: The file permissions and ownership are set correctly.
Before somebody tells you how, one question: Why look at other people's files?
I'm uncomfortable telling somebody how to invade another person's privacy without hearing/having good reason to do so.
(They can put files they want to share in the Shared folder.)

Can't access 'All My Files' in Finder

I'm not able to access 'All My Files' in Finder. The below screenshot error appears when selecting Go > All My Files.
On closer inspection, it appears the entire folder is empty, yet I can manually access files through Spotlight.
Any suggestions on what my cause this issue would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like the "All My Files" Search Folder is damaged or missing.
Try going to Finder Preferences, Sidebar, and uncheck, then recheck All My Files.
Not sure that is going to work, but it would be the simplest solution.

Log and Transfer Window unable to access all the files that were stored a P2 card

I have a 64gb P2 card that was filled to capacity (63.09gb) on a recent shoot with a Panasonic HPX170 camcorder. An addlitional 16gb card was in the second slot.
I transferred the files from the 64gb P2 card to my iMac as usual, and did not see any files to transfer on the second card. When accessing those files in FCP 6.0 I only see part of the files with the last one listed as "incomplete". Four files that I see in the P2 card transfer folder do not show up in the Log and Transfer. The LASTTEXT Clip file was transferred with a 3:07pm time, the inaccessible files end with a 3:06pm time.
I have the original 64gb P2 card in tact so I re-transferred all contents to my computer and into a new folder. When I opened a new project to see if I could access all the files, only the files I previously was able to access came up.
Have I created a FCP Log and Transfer and just need to reset something in FCP? Is there a way to recover the data/restore a path to the data via FCP so I can access all the files or is that a Panasonic issue?

Oy, If it's the second or first half of a spanned clip that's missing, FCP will not import, and the camera cannot repair. There is nothing to repair, according to the camera. Files are just missing.
There are third party MXF software options that allow FCP to import the P2 files natively, without converting to QT. I wonder if they will see the MXF files, or if they too need the complete file to do so. I think most have demos.

hi.. can i know why i cant open ALL the pdf files on internet?? i can view pdf file in internet explorer, but not in mozilla.. my default internet browser is mozilla.. is there any things wrong with my adobe reader? when i try to open a pdf file, the browser go to a blank page with a 'done' at the bottom...

button.
The path is absolute.
The address that IE shows is a MSN search for the PDF file
name - eg the file name is Students with learning difficulties.pdf
it goes to a MSN search and looks for Students with learning
difficulties.pdf web pages.
I test this in preview and does the above mentioned.
Do I need to save the PDF in a different location so
captivate can access it?

HT2470 I cannot access "all my files"

When I try and access the option "all my files" from the go menu it says error cannot be found.
From the finder icon if I click all my files, it flashes once, but then goes nowhere.
Any ideas on how to fix?

in finder when u click all my files the icon is faded for once ,,,right,,,the only thing is need to go system preferences,,cilck user groups ,,,add as a new user mean new administrator ,,,use test for convenience for use name , password and hint ,,,u can do this by clicking + sign on the bottom left hand side by unlocking the lock icon ,, then try to open finder and then click all my files,,,,if the problem persists again ,,,,that means u need reinstall osx by restarting ,[hold the command and R key at same time ],,,u can do this while checking the test user cant resolve the problem ,,try back up ur files using time machine,,,

When we bought our iMac all programmes and shortcuts were loaded onto my wife's desktop. how can I access all my files and our shared photos etc. on my own desktop

When we bought our iMac, all the programme shortcuts and my files ended up migrated from our old PC to my wife's desktop. How can I get these onto my desktop which is virtually blank. I cannot even access our photos from my desktop.

Unless I have misunderstood you, your requirement is to use your desktop (presumably a Windows PC) to access files on your wife's desktop (presumably the iMac). If so, can't you allow "sharing" of the files on the iMac by going into System Preferences > Sharing" and then setting up a network connection on the PC to access these files? Alternatively, write the files on the iMac to a flash drive or CD/DVD (if your iMac has an optical drive) and then copy these to the PC.

How do I access all the files I backed up?

I have tried a zillion things and spent an hour on the phone last night and I can't figure out how to do it. Our hard drive crashed and we got a new one installed but we can't get our files back that we backed up.
There is a drop down box that asks for username and password, it just gives me an error. I tried everything I found online and that the phone support told me to do, reset the password, etc. Still, nothing.
What am I paying all this money for? I paid to have the stuff backed up but now we can't get to it.

Cant get all my files from external hard drive onto my MBP

I have a seagate external hard drive with music on it. When I drag files to my MBP, it does not copy all of them. I've tried everything, but some files just won't copy to my MBP. Any ideas how to resolve this?

I recently upgraded my old powerbook to an iMac. I've dumped the files of my backup drive into the new iMac. Is there a way to have access to all the files (new and old computers) when logged on as the same user vs. logging in and out to access each?

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac. You should be able to set a password for it. Save it. Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer, I suppose, back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity. As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,

don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine and go for it. You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups of your stuff.
