Reverse Type on a Path

Often I accidently click on the edge of a text box with the type on a path tool. How can I reverse that and remove the position lines and stuff that show up?

with Your text box selected, go to Type > Type on a Path > Delete Type from Path

  • Reversed type looks "bold" on new iMac

I just bought a new iMac (specs below) and immediately noticed that reversed type (white type on dark background) in Safari and Firefox definitely looks "bold" for a lack of a better word. This is in comparison to the 3 CRT monitors around our home/office.
This is my first LCD so I can't compare it to another but I can't say that I've noticed this weirdness on any LCD I've ever seen including my wife's Powerbook.
It could be related to the way these browsers render reversed fonts because reversed fonts embeded in images (photoshop, jpgs, etc) look as you would expect. I suppose it could also be related to recent iMac graphic card issues?
Anyone else notice this bold reversed type effect on the new iMac? or any other LCD for that matter.
    Thanks.

I don't think it has anything to do with the LCD, but I've definitely seen similar weird effects that seem to be related to "font smoothing." Try fiddling with the settings at the bottom of System Preferences > Appearance. Also, the (freeware) TinkerTool.app from www.bresink.com provides a wider range of control on minimum smoothed font size. (IMO, all of Bresink's products are A++ quality software.)
Fonts drive me nuts, but I understand that Leopard may change things -- hopefully, for the better.

  • How to reverse type (white on black background) in Pages?

Does anyone know if it's possible to reverse type (white type over a black bar) in Pages, and how to do it? I've been trying for a while, but can't get it to work.

Cancel question; found it in "More Like This" to the right.

  • Warping skewed type on a path

    Hi,
As you'll see in the attached screenshot, I wanted to type along a path that mimmicks the marquee in the photo that is in the background. I was able to get it to do that pretty easily by just drawing the path, type on a path and then type on a path options/skew. The only slight thing is that the last couple of words start to curve back out when I want them stay against the marquee rail.
Is there a way to warp it in InDesign?
Or would it be easier to do this in another program?
    Thanks!

Well I would likely build this in AI or another application.
At both ends of the line, try curving them down slightly. The marquee itself shows a slight outward splay, and if you followed it too closely then that may be what is affecting the ends of the line.

  • Shape color - Type on a path

Is there a way to keep the color on a shape when you use Type on a Path without making a new fill in the Appearance panel?
    Thanks

    Awesome.
I suppose I could just duplicate the layer then, and type on that. Then group.
Ctrl C, Ctrl F, type, select both layers, then Ctrl G
    Good enough.
    Thanks !

Why won't Illustrator type on a path convert properly in CS5?

Path type on a circle is shifted and almost impossible to bring back to the

  • Stretching type on a path

I know you can only work with one path at a time, but is there anyway to create type on a path that stretches each letter as the word goes on? Basically, The bottom arc drops sharper than the top arc, but I would like to type to stretch proportionally to the top arc... does this make sense anyone?

If I wanted the type to follow the first brown scroll (so it would start in the green that fades to white) but I want the top to stretch to the upper brown images of people with their arms up...

  • Disabling "Type on a Path"

Is there a way to disable this function?
I regularly have to edit text within a grid of lines in illustrator. I can replace/edit text zoomed out, but when I try the cursor automatically changes to the type on a path tool. I then have to zoom in, edit text, zoom back out thousands of times a day. It would save me a bunch of time if I could set the type tool to ignore paths and only select text.
I could take the grid of lines on the files I'm working on and send them to back and lock them, but I am dealing with tens of thousands of files, and it's just not practical.
Anyone know of a way to get rid of type on a path, or at least prevent Illustrator from automatically switching to that tool when I hover the type tool over a path?

There is no good way to disable type on the path tool. There should be, it should be a separate subtool that never comes up automatically, or at least a setting to make it behave like that. Most instances of its usage are accidental.
Stopgap solutions involve locking or hiding objects, making sure your text objects are on top, and working more zoomed in than you want to.

  • InDesign Type on a Path tool not available in toolbar

My InDesign 6 does not have a Type on a Path tool. The type tool icon in the tool bar does not have a fly-out option where I should be able to find it. I'm pretty sure it was there at one time. Any suggestions on how to restore this?

Thanks for the help. Using the Cleaner Tool and then reinstalling worked.
I must say though. Although I wanted to just clean the Indesign app. I ended up having to clean the entire CS.
I tried using the Enterprise Clean Tool to just select Indesign, but had trouble following the directions on entering code into Terminal.
It would be more user friendly if when you open the Cleaner Tool app it would then ask you what App(s) you want to clean.

  • Trying to type on a path (CS5) and get small circle with plus sign???

I am trying for the first time to type on a path that I have made. I go to the type tool, type one letter which never appears...but the small circle with a plus sign inside it appears right at that spot on the path. Would love to know what is happening...and how I resolve it. Have googled and searched my books to no avail!

I had been doing what you suggested...but in going back this morning to try it again, I discovered that the box for centered text was selected from an earlier project...and obviously that doesn't work on a path!
    Thank you.

You need two paths.. one for the top text, and one for the bottom text. Adjusting the Type on a Path Options for the path witht he bottom text will allow you to move it to the outside and right reading.
    Not really!
1 Create your text on a path as you have already done
2 but type the word circle backward "elcriC"
3 select the backward type word circle with the text tool
    4. go to the character panel and type 180 in the character rotate input field and hit return
That should do it. That is what I did here and it is all on one path. You can also give it a baseline shift to get it to align better with the path itself.

  • Type on a path, object flipped?

I flipped an object horizontally. Now, I need to apply type on a path to the object, but when I do so the type also appears flipped, even though the type was applied AFTER I flipped the object. How can I get the type to read correctly?

    Good Lord!
    I didn't notice that!
What's even more frustrating is if you draw another object, group the two, choose clear transformations, the transformations are cleared, but the type is still backward.

  • Type on a path and pattern brush

    Hi,
As an exercise I'm recreating the logo for the Seattle Mariners. I've got it except for two things and would really appreciate help with:
1.) The type "Mariners" sloping downward in an arc. I was able to get the Seattle part using type on a path on a circle and typing on top. Question is, can I also type Mariners on the bottom of that path? I recall that not being the case. Am I supposed to draw another circle over the one that Seattle is typed on and then on that one type on the bottom? Regardless, please explain how to do it?
2.) For the stitching, am I supposed to create one stitch and then create a brush, draw a curve and then apply the brush to that curve? How do I space them out that way? If not, please explain.
    Thanks!

  • Type on a Path handle stuck

I created a line and used the Type on a Path tool to add text to the line. While I was adding the text I realized I needed the line to be longer. I pulled the handle to make the line longer, but it leaves the text path the shorter length. I grabbed the text path handle to make it the same length as the line, but it won't expand. I can make the path shorter, but not longer. It's acting as if it doesn't realize the line got longer and so it stops at the original line length's end point. Is there a setting that is causing this issue or just a bug? Usually when this happens I end up making a new path and pasting the text onto it because I can't figure out what's going on.
    Mac OSX 10.5.4
    InDesign CS3 5.0.4

I don't seem to be able to reproduce the problem. It's often easier, I find, to manipulat type on a path using the direct select tool.
You might want to try replacing your preferences.
