Review Photos action

Hello -
I'm not entirely sure if this is the best place to post this question, but it seems like a good place to start. I've been playing around with the Review Photos action in Automator and would love to be able to somehow use it with the Apple remote so I could do some quick and dirty photo sorting Front Row style. I guess what I'd like is to be able to assign Apple remote keys (or even keyboard keys) to the options in the action so I can browse through recent photos and decide which ones to keep, but do it from the couch instead of the desk.
Anyone have any ideas on this?
Thanks,
John

This sounds very similar to my problem with Automator 2.02/OS 10.5.4. I created a "cull photos" workflow a while ago which I thought was working - I select a folder, review the images in the folder, and label/rename the rejected photos (and, yes, it would be more than nice if I could deal with each of the three categories rather than only one!).
I opened the workflow tonight and it hung on the "Review Photos" - timed out. I deleted the Action and inserted another, presumably identical action, and it worked. Or so I thought. I managed to correctly rename and label several rejects among 20 photos before I quit the action.
Changing the action slightly to accept multiple files (I had ~700 to process and it was extremely slow) and pre-labeling the selected input files, I ran the workflow again. This time the review photos action on 20 photos quit after the first was accepted. I ran it again and it managed to continue after a reject, but passed nothing to the next action (reporting an error in the log - the action "...Next after Review Photos" was not supplied with the required data).
After several attempts to run it, the action started "spinning" every time and failed to complete. Ever.
Replacing it with a "new" "Review Photos" seemed to work, processing 5 selected photos, but again failing by not providing the next action with the appropriate file names.
None of the images are corrupt, I have selected small numbers of images to avoid overloads, I have saved the workflow, and I have closed and re-opened Automator. I find only this discussion topic which appears similar. What might be happening?
Are there alternatives to "Review Photos", which is a pretty poor applet anyway?

  • "Review Photos" Action not working

I have a workflow set up to get the selected folder (full of photos), get all items in that folder and any subfolders, and let me review them, then import the selected photos into iPhoto. However, when it gets to the "Review Photos" action it basically stops, not showing me the window, and just gives the spinning gear. When I checked to see if the results given to it by the previous action were photos, they were. When I tried this with only a few photos, it took it a (long) while and then it finally told me that it the action "Review Photos" encountered an error. The only thing I did that I can think of that would make this happen is that I did go into the contents of the action in Finder, although I did not mess around with it at all. If anyone knows where I could re-download this action if that was the problem, I would greatly appreciate it. If this is a known issue, does anybody know a fix? Thanks.

  • Can't see "albums" when reviewing photos stored on external drive

Goal: I'd like to be able to rapidly hook up my external hard-drive, find 6 photos previously sorted into an album (as when they were originally sorted by me in my computer's iPhoto) and copy those back onto my computer for my use.
Problem: When I go to review my backed up iPhoto library on the external hard-drive the photos are only organized in folders by year or by roll name. I can't seem to see the previous very extensive album list in which I'd originally sorted my photos. To look them up by date again would be very time consuming especially considering I've already taken time to created hundreds of albums and manually alpha sorted these albums!
My photo collection is too extensive to import the entire library back onto my computers hard-drive.
A professional Mac troubleshooter had shown me once how to do this but I've forgotten. It was something like putting my computer's current iPhoto library in the trash, and then open iPhoto. When iPhoto asked "what library to use" click on the one on the external drive. This revealed the previous album list in the Source column of the iPhoto window.
However I'm a little afraid to try this, as then I'm only one click away from trashing current photos that I may not have backed up?
    Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. It looks like your other post was deleted. That often happens with duplicate posts, but they usually try to remove the one that was not answered.
To switch libraries, Quit iPhoto. Hold down the Option key as you launch iPhoto. At the dialog, select "Choose Library" then navigate to the iPhoto Library folder that you wish to open. You can do this to open the library on your external hard drive, select the albums you want, and Export those photos to your Desktop. Then Quit iPhoto, Option-Launch again, open your regular library, import the photos from your Desktop, then delete the Desktop copies.
If that sounds inconvenient, you can use iPhoto Library Manager to transfer the albums from one library to the other.
    Regards.

  • Restoring Old Photos - Actions

I have Photoshop's CS5 on a Mac.  Colin Smith has a very nice video on restoring old photos with Channels and then using Content Aware Fill with the Spot Healing Brush.
I have about 140 scanned old photos which I want to improve before putting them in a PhotoBook.  Can anyone give me the step by step Actions, with stops
and starts, so I can automate the process of cropping, improving color tone and Spot Healing these photos one after another and speed up the process?
I'd appreciate any help, suggestions, ideas.
    MJG

restoring old photos isnt as hard as it seems you will be using mostly the image>adjustment comands when i usually edit i start off with adjusting the levels then i move on to the curves which adjusts your image so different sections are light and others are dark the next think i would do is move on to the hue and saturation this often seems overextreme as you dont what to turn a normal looking photo purple but adding a very slight change can often make a big difference. as an extra affect the photo filter can sometimes add alot to the photo. i often add a slight sepia tinge to my photos which makes them look very cool and vintagy.
the final think i would do is use the healing brush and fix blemishes and if this proves to be annoying as it sometimes can be as it makes certain sections look blurry the clone stamp tool is really cool! all you do is pick a section you want to clone over the top of a blemish then you click alt whilst clicking the area and you then position your mouse over the blemish and it will take whatever area you originally clicked on and place it ontop of the blemish (:
mainly i would sugest using the image>adjustment commands as they are really simple but really go a long way in cleaning up old photos
    hope this helped!

  • Quiz Results Page - Review Button Action

    Greetings All,
Does anybody know if there is a way to access the variables/actions that are associated with the retake/review buttons on the quiz review page?
For example, I would love to be able to do something like this: assign cpCmndReviewQuiz 1. That would lock-in the last answers selected on the quiz and navigate back to the first quiz question.  This is the same behavior as the quiz review button on the Captivate-generated review page.
Alternatively, I would like to know if there is a way to lock the quiz so the last set of responses are frozen.
Oh, BTW - captivate 6.. Thanks

    Hi Lilybiri,
I would like to develop a 'custom' quiz review screen.  Unfortunately, there are very limited options as to what you can add to the 'stock' review page. For example, you can neither add a button, nor change the behavior of the buttons that are generated with that page. It would be nice if I could add a 'print certificate' button when the learner passes the exam.
When developing my own 'custom' review page, I ran into some interesting behavior.
I setup a quiz and allowed the learner 3 attempts to pass the quiz:
Using the 'stock' review page: If the learner passes the quiz in under 3 attempts, then clicks the review button, the learner is returned to the first quiz question, and they can review their responses to each quiz question.  Their responses are locked, and cannot be changed.
Using my 'custom' review page: I placed 'review' button on the final slide of the course. The button simply shows the navigation bar, unlocks TOC, then returns the learner to the first quiz question.  If the learner passes the quiz in under 3 attempts, then clicks this 'custom' review button, they are taken back to the first quiz question.  The only problem is that the learner's responses aren't indicated, like when you press the 'stock' review button.  The quiz and all of the responses are reset.
Anyway, it would be nice to know if there is a way to mimic the behavior of the 'stock' review button, but it doesn't sound like it's possible.
Thanks - hope my post makes some sense...

  • How do I review photo in app after I take it

i just took a photo and I don't see how to immediately review it within the camera app.  All my phones did this so there must be a way.

Take the photo.  Then swipe with your finger from right to left and you can review the photo(s) you've taken.  Swiping left to right will take you back to the camera.

  • HT5182 when atttempting to review photos in Iphoto iget a dark screen with a exclamtion point? Help

Uisng I photo, the cicon pictures were fine, but when attempting to view full screen, seveal of the photos
were replaced with dark scren and larger !.  Picures were shot in JPEG and RAW
    Help..

That ! appears when iPhoto has broken the link/file path to the orignal photo.  Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with
Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • When reviewing photos in Bridge by pressing the spacebar how do I get higher resolution photos

In Bridge when I enlarge a photo by pressing the spacebar I have got to go to 100% to get a sharper picture, is there anything I can do to get a better resolution photo without having to go to 100%

You might try setting monitor size previews (Edit > Preferences > Advanced, and you'll need to purge cache for the folders where you want to to try monitor size previews).  But this still produces soft previews for some users.  See the thread in this forum "Why do my images look soft in Bridge?"  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1056763 -- particularly  the last 10 or so posts in that thread.

  • How to Copy Items w/ Spotlight Comments?

    Hi all,
I built my first Automator workflow, but having a slight problem. I'm using the "Ask for Finder Items" action which allows me to browse my image collection. I then use "Review Photos" action to review the photos and I have "Approved images" checked, then finally "Copy Finder Items" action to copy those approved images to a specified folder.
Here's the problem: I have spotlight comments in the original files that aren't being copied with the file to the specified folder. Can anyone write me a workflow that will properly copy files with the comments?
    Thanks, Bill

    Niel:
OK, I setup the AppleScript action, but now I'm getting an Error dialog that says "Can't set folder "Users:myusername:Desktop:SelectedImages" to {alias "myharddrive:StockPhotos:iStockphoto:iStock_000000446037Medium.jpg"} plus any other images I selected w/ error (-10006)
I thought the problem might have been the spaces in folder names, so I took all spaces out, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Bill

  • Applications list, no iPhoto

When I first received Tiger I deleted iPhoto thinking I would never use it. But I decided to reinstall it, but it’s not showing up in the Automator’s list of applications. Is there a way I can add it in there? Thanks in advance.
    Jtsastre

If you haven't already, make sure to run  Menu > Software Update, log out and back in, and see if the actions show up in Automator. It wouldn't hurt to fix permissions with Disk Utility.app while you're at it. Then in Finder select Go > Go To Folder (shift-command-G) and paste in
/System/Library/Automator/The first iPhoto action you would find in this folder is "Ask for Photos.action."
If the actions aren't there, you can find them on your Tiger installation DVD. In my first comment I had suggested you re-install Automator from the DVD, but this isn't a good idea because you'll end up being stuck with Automator 1.0. Subsequent releases of Automator were bundled with OS updates and are not available as standalone installers. These updates contained major bug fixes, so you'll want to keep your current version (1.0.3)
To extract just the iPhoto actions from your Tiger DVD, do the following:
    1. Make a new folder on your hard drive or desktop called "Automator Resources" or similar.
    2. Insert the Tiger installation DVD
    3. hit shift-command-G
    4. paste in the following path:
    /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/Automator.pkg/Contents
    5. in the resulting folder, locate "Archive.pax.gz" and drag it to the folder you made on the hard drive.
    6. open your folder and double click the copy of Archive.pax.gz
    7. once it's uncompressed, navigate to
    Archive > System > Library > Automator
    8. In another window, open the /System/Library/Automator/ folder as before.
    9. Compare the two folders and add in any actions that you think are missing from your machine. Here are some logical suggestions:
    Ask for Photos.action
    Review Photos.action
Convert iPhoto object to Album object.caction
    iPhoto.definition
    Get Specified iPhoto Items.action
    New iPhoto Album.action
    Play iPhoto Slideshow.action
    Import Photos into iPhoto.action
Convert iPhoto object to Photo object.caction
If you've previously used the iPhoto '06 installer on the iLife '06 DVD, pay special attention to the modified / created dates of these files, as they appear to have updated since the Tiger release omm:
Convert iPhoto Album to Alias object.caction
Convert Alias object to iPhoto photo object.caction
Convert iPhoto Item Object to Alias Object.caction

  • Weirdness when reviewing DVD photos in iPhoto

I have a 20" iMac purchased earlier this year. I have more than one library in iPhoto, and I back up each library to a DVD using the Share/Burn command.
When I insert a burned DVD into the iMac it shows up in the Source Pane of iPhoto. When I click on it the pictures show up. So far, so good, but then weirdness begins when I double click on one of the pictures to view it full screen. A small version of the desired picture appears on the monitor screen with the message "Loading photo.." below it. This is accompanied by a churning sound within the monitor which continues for about 40 seconds before the picture finally appears full screen. The churning sound then continues for about another 40 seconds before it finally quits. This process seems very strange to me. Why does it take so long for the full screen picture to appear, and what is the churning sound all about? Is this normal? I don't experience any of this weirdness when I normally review photos in my iPhoto libraries.
    Bob

    Bob:
Yes, that's about normal. The DVD read speed is not that fast, particularly when compared to viewing on our speedy internal HDs. A good alternative, budget providing, is an external FW HD. Great for daily incremental backups and for running other libraries from. Very cost effective insurance against loss of irreplaceable photos and other documents.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • FAQ: Can I edit my photos in revel from the browser or android interface?

Q: Can I edit my photos in revel from the browser or android interface?
A: At this point (Feb 2013) you can not edit the photos in Revel unless you are using the Mac, iPhone, or iPad app version of Revel. We are continuing to add new features and intend to add new platforms and file types in the future.
If you have the app loaded on an iPad, iTouch, or Mac, see this  link to learn how to edit:
FAQ: How do I edit photos in Revel?

There isn't an Aperture or iPhoto app for the iPad (it comes with a basic Photos apps which is effectively just a viewer), and the photo editing apps that do exist are fairly basic : cropping, brightness, rotation, straightening etc e.g. the free Photoshop Express app from Adobe (which also has an in-app purchase option). You can use the iPad for reviewing photos but if you tend to do extensive editing then it's probably not suitable.

  • Deleting Photos and Calalog entries

I generally take and upload many pictures and ultimately want to delete most of them. I am annoyed by the prompt asking me if I want to delete the photo and the catalog entry as if I would want leave an orphaned photo on my hard disk. Is there a way to automatically deletes the photo when I delete the catalog entry and eliminate the extra prompt? This becomes very annoying over time. I checked the preferences and couldn't find obvious settings to address this issue.

Yup, that's exactly what I do (the answer to the OP's question is no,
you can't avoid the prompt, and yes there are occasions when I want to
remove a file from the catalogue but not the hard drive.)
I use the 'hidden' tag. Which is very quickly applied when reviewing

  • Trouble loading actions

When I loaded some photo actions into my new PSE11 it show only a generic icon in the effects palette, not the icon from the maker so it takes extra time to search for the action I need.  How can I get the icon from the maker to show as the icon in the palette?

I've only been able to use png files for the effects thumbnail.
When i try to use a jpeg it causes pse 11 to crash.
In otherwords i can put the action and a thumbnail inage saved in the png format in the same folder and then load the action from the preset manager
and the correct thumbnail and action (effect) show up under My Effects and it works correctly.
On the other hand if i put a thumbnail saved as a jpeg file in a folder with an action and try to load the action and jpeg thumbnail using the preset
    manager, photoshop elements 11 crashes.
This is on windows 8 x64.

  • Dynamic actions and PA-PD integration a problem

Are you aware of an update problem with MSS and PA-PD integration?  This information was made available in a presentation to us last year.  Was this issue resolved in mySAP ERP 2004?
Dynamic actions and PA-PD integration a problem
Dynamic actions and PA-PD integration are not
processed on updates made from the web (but in the
background through a batch or call transaction session)
That’s why most standard PCRs require HR to process
the transaction using the SAP GUI in the foreground
This normally affects changes to infotypes 0000 &
    0001
    Then the next slide states:
    Workaround for dynamic actions
Review dynamic actions in table T588Z (use SE16 to
display) and document the infotypes and values that
    trigger dynamic actions
Incorporate those infotypes into your background
processing and web forms (if necessary)
    Workaround for PA-PD integration
Include the integration steps for these infotypes in your
background processing (just as in conversions)

    Hi John,
Not sure if it is fixed.. or can be fixed.. we are still in 47  & Use custom code to account for Dynamic Actions.. the PCR processes use the function module HR_MAINTAIN_MASTERDATA to update the infotypes. This function mimics a BDC & hence cannot handle Dynamic Actions... Basically, the issue is not with MSS but it is the way Dynamic Actions work.. to quote SAP  "Dynamic actions are not correctly processed in batch input sessions since in batch input the sequence of the screens needs to be predefined correctly. To be able to process dynamic actions in batch input, the checks of the dynamic actions need to be programmed when creating the batch input session. To avoid errors when programming and running the session, the static actions  only are processed in batch input. Calls of infotypes that are triggered by dynamic actions should be realized by separate Transaction calls.
Please take a look at OSS Note #386027 for additional info about Dynamic Actions.
