RMI load Balancing -Any recommendations !

Hi all ,
Any Suggestions to manage and optimize RMI load balancing in a cluster environment ?

first thing to remember, an rmi "server" is simply the receiving end of an rmi call (the box which exported a remote object). in a complex distributed system, a box is often both an rmi "client" and an rmi "server". your basic design sounds good. you have one "master" box which is pulling data from the db and distributing the work to one or more "worker" boxes. at the very least, your worker boxes will probably be rmi servers. depending on how you handle job completion (pull vs. push) your master box may also be an rmi server (at the very least, it will be an rmi client).
in terms of overall design, depending on how you pull the data from the database, you could potentially move the database pull to the worker boxes (since pulling data from a db is often a bottleneck as well). if you can define the data to be processed for a single job as a simple query, then you could just send the query info to a worker box and it could pull the data directly from the db and then process it. this could be potentially be much more performant than having one box pull the data and distribute it (for a variety of reasons).

Assuming you're using iPhoto 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Rmi load balancer

    hey,
i've started writing a basic rmi dispatcher to distribute the work of a search engine and i was wondering what the best way to balance load among available machines on the network would be. does rmi have any built in methods to calculate the workload of a server?
    cheers

I know people don't bother to search the forum before posting a question, but this is too much. There is another load-balance thread just above yours. At least you could take the time to look in the current day's threads before posting a new question.

  • Load Balancing Error Message

We have two ASA 5550's, ver. 8.0.4. We just recently set them up for Load Balancing. Every time the user logins to Cisco VPN client (5.0.03.0560), we got two email notifications for the below message. We got the error messages every time every user logins to the Cisco VPN client
163>%ASA-3-713128: Connection attempt to VCPIP redirected to VCA peer 192.168.110.18 via load balancing
163>%ASA-3-713902: Group = office, IP = XX.XXX.XXX.XXX, Removing peer from peer table failed, no match!
The user was able to access the internal resources. The two ASA's have the exact configurations. Do you have any suggestions how to fix the problem?
    Thanks.
    Debra

Error Message - %PIX|ASA-3-713128: Connection attempt to VCPIP redirected to VCA peer IP_address via load balancing
Explanation - This message appears when a connection attempt has been made to the VCPIP and has been redirected to a less loaded peer using load balancing.
    Recommended Action - None required.
    Error Message - %PIX|ASA-3-713902 descriptive_event_string
Explanation - This system log message could have several possible text strings describing an error. This may be the result of a configuration error either on the headend or remote access client.
Recommended Action - It might be necessary to troubleshoot the configuration to determine the cause of the error. Check the ISAKMP and crypto map configuration on both peers.

  • What's the best way to load balance multiple protocols on one vserver?

    Hi,
We have a CSM blade on a 6513, in bridge mode. I'm just wondering what is the best way to serve HTTP and HTTPS (or any two or more ports) from the same group of servers. As I see it, we have two options:
    1. Don't set a port on the vserver, so it is load balancing "any" or "tcp". This is easy but I want to be sure there isn't a downside to this, other than the obvious security issue.
    2. Create multiple vservers and point them at the same serverfarm. I tried this and I got some odd results with the health checks.
    Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

you listed the only 2 options available.
The advantage of solution #2 is that you can apply specific config for each protocol ie: for HTTP you can turn 'persistent rebalance' if needed.
If you want to use specific probes [not icmp], it is also a good practice to create a different serverfarm for each protocol.
Like this, if the HTTP service goes down but not the server, you can still have other protocols loadbalanced.

    Gilles.

  • Load balancing on RMI Server Application

Hi there, I'd like to know more detail about load balancing on RMI server application, been digging the web for some time, but couldn't find much information, does anyone know any website or has the knowledge of load balancing on RMI to share? Sort like its design and implementation.
    Thanks,
    Jax

    I want performance and fault-tolerance,
In that case, is it necessary to have a main
rmi server to allow client to access and pick one of
the rmi servers for the client?Well, if you have one main RMI server, you have a single point of failure again.. Why can't your application know about all rmi servers, and randomly choose one? If it's down, pick a different one.. If your applicatoin is an applet, you'll have to sign it.. Do that and put it on 2 redundant web servers. You have performance by splitting the load and you have your fault tolerance by having x identical rmi servers.
If you're saying what I think, why would you have one main rmi server that picks a different rmi server? That's more work AND your redundancy goes byebye, ie if your main rmi server dies..

    Hi there!
I just downloaded and installed OS X Lion, and I'm loving it so far.
However, I've seen that Mountain Lion will have some new features when it comes to social apps (what I call the ones that combine twitter, facebook, rss readers and so on).
So, does anyone knows any cools apps for that? I'm currently using Socialite, that combines all those three, but it has a few issues I don't particularly like. Plus, I'm using Adium for a msn client. I'm also thinking about downloading that beta version of "Messages" that will be realeased on Mountain Lion.
So, what do you think? Give me your ideas
    Thanks a lot in advance!
As Mountain Lion has not been released to the public yet, then most of us have no idea which companies have updated the development of their Apps for  ML. It is in Development phase so any App you try is at your own risk.

  • Best Option (if any) for Load Balancing Distribution Point(s) on Same LAN

    Hey Guys -
I've got a simple question this time.  We use SCCM 2012 R2, manage ~800 systems at 3 locations, but perform most work at our main office where this scenario takes place.  Here, we have a single DP on-site which is a separate VM than our Primary
    which is also local.
Recently, our PC Lab tried running our OSD TS on 16 systems which were each started 1-2 minutes apart.  When run on a single  brand new PC connected via GB network, the OSD TS takes a couple of hours to complete so with 16 it really caused some
issues.  We had a couple of Programs/Packages/Applications which actually timed out due to the default 120 minute max run time.  We don't usually image 16 at a time, but often do 2-3 at once so are looking to find a solution to speed things up anyways.
    My Question
What is the best solution / method for implementing any type of load balancing on a single LAN?  I'm not asking for true load balancing, but simply any solution where multiple systems running a TS can pull from more than a single local source if possible.
We do not use multicasting and from what I've been told it will not be a possibility as it causes havoc on networks so it's out. I know that some clients can share content depending on deployment configuration, but don't know how / if this applies to OSD
    Task Sequences.
    Any suggestions or ideas?  Thanks!
    Ben K.

Agree, 16 machines is not a lot. I would normally go for about 2000 machines per DP depending on pkg/img size etc. Whats the size of that rebuild? Image + packages? Do you do a full DL before starting or is it started from WinPE?
Our BranchCache tools will of course help, regardless of how fast your gig link is since data will be pulled from more sources, but think your issue is more network related? If the images is 5 gig and you add another 5 gig of packges in the sequence a 1Gb/s
link should pull that 16 * 10GB=160GB in about half an hour. So think dont think you are having 1Gb/s from server to clients.

  • Any concern on persistent search through a load balancer?

We have access manager 7 installed which make use of persistent search. My understanding is that persistent search required to maintain a connection so that the server can refresh/update the client whenever entry in the result set changed. If we configure the system to connect to ldap through load balancer, will that cause any problem? What will happen if the load balancer refresh connection after a period of time? Or , if the original ldap server failed and the load balancer try load balance the client to another ldap server, will the persistent search still works?
Also, if the ldap server that the persistent search initially established connection with crashed, will the client get error message and in that case, is it the client's responsibility to re-run/retry the persistent search with other failover ldap server?
    Thanks,

Your best bet, even when using a hardware load balancer, is to front your DS instances with a pair of load-balanced Directory Proxy Servers. This way, you have physical redundancy at the load balancer level, and intelligent LDAP-aware load balancing at the proxy server level. DPS 6 is very nice in that you can split binds, searches, and updates amongst several backend DS instances, and the connection state is maintained by the proxy, not the DS instance (i.e. if an instance fails, you really shouldn't be forced to rebind, the proxy fails-over to another DS for searching).
We have our Directory Servers on a pair of Solaris 10 systems, each with a zone for a replicated Master DS, and another zone each for a DPS instance. The DPS instances are configured to round-robin binds/searches/updates/etc. among the DS master zones. This works out very well for us.

  • Load Balancing and Failover in RMI.

    Hi All,
I have just one RMI object doing mathematical
calculations.I want failover (and perhaps load
balancing also) for this rmi object.Few Application
    servers(like weblogic) provide a wrapper over sun's
rmi to produce replica aware rmi stubs but they force
to use vendor specific (like weblogic rmi-registry)
rmi-registry, which runs within the app server.
    My problem is :
I dont want to run the whole app server to just run
    one rmi object ?
Is there a way using which I can make replica aware
rmi stubs without using the app server ?
Thanks in advance for the help !!
    Regards
    Rais

your question is pretty vague. In case you are trying to do load balancing using load balancers then your application layer is actually supposed to be blind as far as the working of the networking layer is concerned (and thats where the load balancers exist). Then the question would also be do you want to achieve this to make the system highly available or make it more resilient and improvr performance. There would be different implementations for both of them. However if you are planning to introduce load balancing programmatically you need to start more than one rmi services.

  • Load balancing over rmi requests

On a cluster of ias10g (9041), Is it possible that all requests over RMI use a "virtual" hostname and port which directs them to a load balancing mechanism which then determines which of the operational OC4J instances should process this request?

Does anyone know anything on this question?

  • RMI Clustering/Load Balancing

I want to be able to access a stateless application deployed in an IAS 10g cluster, with a remote client using RMI and have the RMI requests load balanced and failed over between the cluster. The application doesn't use EJBs.
Can anybody tell me how the client RMI requests could be load balanced and failed over accross the cluster?

  • Recommended configuration for load balanced Portal with load balancer, multiple gateways and multiple servers.

Does anyone have a recommended network, hardware and software configuration guide for a Portal installation running with multiple gateways load balanced (ie one URL) that talk to multiple servers?

    David,
We've used Resonate (software) to load balance the gateways. It allows
you to group all the gateways under 1 virtual URL and load balance the
incoming connections over each gateway depending on the rules that you
define in Resonate. Look in the SUN portal whitepapers there is one that
    talks about it specifically.
As far as load balancing the calls to the portals, the gateways will
automatically load balance across all the portals that they know about
using a simple round-robin rotation. You may be able to use Resonate in
front of the portals but you may need to activate persistance within
Resonate to ensure that the user always ends up on the portal that he
established his initial connection on (if you want that), check with Sun
    on this one.
