RoboHelp 9 and IE10
I created an HTMLHelp project using RoboHelp 9 that is housed on a server here at the office. Users use a link to access the server and the help file. I am finding that the online help works fine on IE8, IE9 and Firefox...but does not work with IE10 (links within the help...whether on the TOC, Index or Search just take the user to a blank page).
It does work with IE10 when in compatibility mode...but unfortunately our software does not work properly when IE10 is in compatibility mode.
Does anyone know of a way to make online help projects created with RoboHelp 9 work with IE10...or do I need to upgrade to a newer version of RoboHelp?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the reply, Jeff.
Apologies...should have mentioned this was WebHelp. I did try to add the OLH's server to the list of trusted sites...but it didn't seem to make a difference.
It is really strange...the OLH initially displays without a problem and the welcome page displays just fine. I can see the TOC, the Index...I can do searches. However, once I click on another topic in the TOC or click on an index entry or click a search result, the area that shows the topic just goes blank. There is no error. It just doesn't display the topic.
The only workaround I see is to display the blank page and then right-click and select Encoding and then either Western European or UniCode UTF-8 and the topic displays. However, if I click the TOC for that very same topic that is now displaying, it goes blank until I select the Encoding option again. Very weird.

RH11 404 - Page Not Found when linking to PDF file from search results using IE9 and IE10
I'm using RH11 (11.0.3.268) and I've included a number of PDF files as baggage files. The hyperlinks on the pages work fine and display the PDF files in a separate window, as expected. However, when searching for these same PDF files using the Search tab, I'm getting a 404 error with the filename. The description on the error shows the filename and says the "the requested resource is not available." This is occurring using IE9 and IE10. And, it only happens within the application, which packages the WebHelp with a war file.
I searched the forum and found where someone was having the same problem on Firefox, but was fine on IE. But, as mentioned, I'm finding it on IE.
Thoughts on how to fix this error? Is the WAR file extracted at the point when the search is done? If not, I would expect it to fail.

Windows 8 and IE10 not accepting Proxy Settings via Group Policy
We have recently introduced a couple of Windows 8 computers in our network, and we are having issues applying the Internet Explorer Proxy Server settings.
We use a Microsoft TMG 2010 server as our proxy server for accessing the internet.
We have been using a GPO with the following settings to automatically configure our Windows 7 computers running IE9 with the appropriate Proxy settings:
User Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Internet Explorer Maintenance\Connection/Proxy Settings
“Enable Proxy Settings” : Checked
“Address of proxy” : server.domain.local
“Port” : 8080
“Use the same proxy server for all addresses” : Checked
“Exceptions” : Here we have a list of several internal or partner sites that should not be proxied.
This GPO has worked beautifully for our Windows XP and Windows 7 users with IE 7, 8 and 9.
Now with Windows 8 and IE10, this no longer works.
I’ve therefore added a Windows Server 2012 Domain Controller to the network, and using GPMC on that new DC, I created a new GPO with the following settings:
User Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Internet Settings\Internet Explorer 10
Now, seeing as these are preferences, it’s a little different. But, I’ve “checked off” the option “Use a proxy server for your LAN” as well as “Bypass proxy server for local addresses”.
Then I click on “Advanced” and setup all my proxy settings the way I would like them, including the proxy server name, port and exceptions list.
When this new group policy gets applied to my Windows 8 PC, the only setting that gets applied is the “Use a proxy server for your LAN”.
It does not configure the name or port of the proxy server nor does it configure the exceptions list.
If I go back to the GPMC, and edit the new GPO, the settings are all there.
However, if I just view the settings from the main GPMC screen (without opening the GPO itself),
I don’t see all of those settings (again, only the one “Use a proxy server…”)
What am I missing???Hi All, - (Revised Answer by myself)<o:p></o:p>
I banged my head against the keyboard on this one for some time trying to get this group policy to apply. I
did every thing that was suggested, learning about the F6 and F7 keys to Green underline and Red underline the options required and not required. I even gave in and used the registry settings and it still did not work. It turned out that I had
2 issues. The first one is obvious and the second not so obvious, this is how it is setup:
I have a 2012 R2 Standard DC with Windows 8.1 clients/workstations and IE 11. As you are aware you must make
sure that the following are underlined in green:
Automatically detect settings - (but not ticked)<o:p></o:p>
Use proxy server for your LAN<o:p></o:p>
Bypass Proxy for local address<o:p></o:p>
Next I made sure that the following had red dotted lines:
Address<o:p></o:p>
This still didn't work, so I went through my 'Do Not use proxy servers for addresses beginning with' removed all
of these and then re-added one by one until the problem materialized. The first issue was when using wildcards I had added an entry with the following:
http://domain.subdomain.com/*
Then caused my proxy fields not to be applied, I re-added this just with:<o:p></o:p>
http://domain.subdomain.com/
<o:p>This next one is IMPORTANT.</o:p>
I had these entries in a Word document of which I had copied and pasted from the entry box for 'Do
Not use proxy servers for addresses beginning with'. As shown in the screen shot above provided by SVEN_BURGER I had very similar entries:
http://domain.subdomain.com/;10.*.*.*;172.27.*.*;http://172.27.*.*
Each time I copied and pasted the line (+ more) above the proxy field on the Windows 8.1 client
be blank after using 'gpupdate /force' I then noticed that in my Word document the whole string was being seen as 1 URL due to the http part at the beginning, so I changed my entry to look like this:
10.*.*.*;172.27.*.*;http://172.27.*.*;http://domain.subdomain.com/
I again noticed that this section:
http://172.27.*.*;http://domain.subdomain.com/
Was being seen as one URL in my Word document. To resolve this I had to add the URL's individually and
apply and OK these before going back in and making the next entry. So I ended up adding them all individually after separating the
URL's in my Word document.
I hope this helps. -
Looking for documentation regarding RoboHelp and VSS (SourceSafe)
We are considering using VSS (SourceSafe) as our source control for RoboHelp - has anyone had any success with
RoboHelp and this tool? The config.xml has a schema - see the config.xml for the location. There is not much documentation in it since it is generated.
Each of the elements is also accessible via a JMX MBean - there is a reference manual that describes the MBean values,
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/wlsmbeanref/core/index.html
You can use that to understand the config.xml elements - you will have to map from MBean name to element name - i.e. DomainMBean to domain (in config.xml) -
Media Wep Part Issue on IE9 and IE10
Hello All,
I am playing a video file using media webpart on sp2013. File is working perfectly on IE 11 but same is not working with IE9 and IE10.
do i need to install silver-light client at client machine. or something else i need to check ???
Thanks in ADV!!Hi Dan,
Yes, as Media Web Part is a Silverlight control, you need to install Silverlight at client machine.
For more information, you can have a look at the thread:

Our company uses RoboHelp with the
Across
Language Server for our help file localization. We have some
very large help projects (largest is approx 2800 topics) and are
experiencing a lot of overhead with the files in the Across system.
We generate the help file as a .CHM help file and then decompile it
and send the decompiled .htm files for translation and then
recompile them when we get them back.
Originally when we submitted our ~2800 .htm files for
localization, Across would crash while trying to import our files.
So the Across people built a custom merge tool to combine several
hundreds of topics together into a single file to get around this
problem. So now, translators work on translating 20 or so merged
files. These are then split into their respective .htm topics and
then sent back to me for recompilation as the target language help
file.
Now we're running into overhead problems where there's an
update to our help project. Rather than just sending them the .htm
topic. We have to find what merged file contains the topic and
merge those files together and then resubmit it. It's turning out
to be a lot of work.
I'm wondering if anyone else uses Across with RoboHelp and if
you have any best practices for improvements? Or if there's a
better authoring tool for localization in Across?Hi James. You are right to be weary. I don't know this site but I'd be very surprised if you end up getting RHS9 for the advetised price. I know that Adobe do offer academic licences at reduced cost but not that reduced. Sorry I can't be more help.

IE9 and IE10 cannot download/open any files
We are seeing this issue pretty consistently across the board with IE9 and IE10, and everything we have researched has not worked. We notice that if we are logged in as administrator on a computer (both PC's running Windows 7 and zero-client
terminals), we do not experience the issue. When we log back in as the user, we cannot open, save, or save as any downloads.
We have deleted all appropriate registry entries, removed and reinstalled IE9 and IE10 on different computers, removed any group policy that may apply to our internet settings for testing, and removed our av program for testing only.
Across the net we see multiple questions on this issue, but no clear-cut answer. Has anyone come up with a standard answer for this? Very frustrating...we didn't experience this on the same systems, same operating system, when we were on
IE8.Microsoft and their experts have done a terrible job assisting valued users with resolving this debilitating issue. Their support is atrocious!
After battling this issue for many days and really frustrating myself and my client, I stumbled across the answer. Create a new user account. Yes, that is it. A new (administrative) user account works perfectly. Once you create the new
user, copy the Desktop, pictures, videos and music files... I wouldn't try an easy transfer or anything like that due to the likelihood of copying the error with it.

Flash has stopped working. Updated and enabled to no avail. Am using Windows 7 64-bit and IE10.
Pat Willener wrote:
What exactly means "stopped working"?
It had been working on my computer through the different versions of IE for years. I then noticed a few days ago that numerous reliable sites told me to install Flash. I confirmed that it was installed and enabled but all attempts to reinstall resulted in the same condition; Installed under "Programs" ans enabled under "Manage Add-ons". However I still couldn't get it running and Adobe's "Check Now" site showed it NOT installed or enabled. The only thing I can think of that might have had an effect was that I returned to IE10 recently after having some problems with IE11. -
Differences between Robohelp and Robohelp Server
I am in the process of evaluatinf Robohelp. I have found out
there are 2 versions: Robohelp and Rohohelp Server. can someone

Thanks in Advance
Rodman VeneyHi, Rodman
You may find this article in the Adobe Developer Center
helpful as well. It refers to RoboHelp Server 6, but virtually all
information remains relevant for v7. As Rick says, "Pro" is simply
the same as WebHelp or FlashHelp, but the content is published to
the RoboHelp Server so that you can get the benefit of user
feedback reports and the other features described here:

Robohelp 11 output not compatible with IE11 and IE10
I am new to RoboHelp 11 and we've a release looming over us. The web help output files are not loading on other computers but are working fine at my end or my colleague's system (we both have RoboHelp installed in our systems) We used Robohelp 8 for the previous release and upgraded to the latest version particularly for this release. After integrating web files into the application, the developers found that the files are not compatible. Now we've too short a time to downgrade to Robohelp 8 Can anyone give us a suggestion on why output files are working on certain systems but not on others. Is it because I have the source files on my machines and others don't?
Hi there
RoboHelp 11 output should be working for things. But here's what I'd check.
1. Ensure you have any and all updates applied to RoboHelp 11. If you find you need an update, you will need to apply it, then generate the output again to ensure that the output is set up properly.
2. It's possible that you need to simply delete all the output files from the server where you copied it. Then copy the totally new set of output files from your machine to the server.
Cheers... Rick -

Hi
We are still running Windows Server 2003 with a Win7 and Win8 desktop environment. I can control Win7 IE9 settings,

Is there any way to force the proxy settings to the Win8/IE10 or 11 systems .
i have tried with The IE 10 .adm template and applied gpo,but does not have any proxy settings for ie10 and no changes were applies
please can anyone help me regarding this
i want to apply GPO from windows server 2003 to windows 8 ie10/11
Thanks
KNCHi,
I agree with Zanderol24, we can install RSAT on a windows8 client, and then we can use Group Policy Management to manage group policy from the client.
For more information about RSAT, we can refer to the following link:
Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) for Windows Client and Windows Server (dsforum2wiki)
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2202.remote-server-administration-tools-rsat-for-windows-client-and-windows-server-dsforum2wiki.aspx
For more detailed information about how to use GPP to configure the proxy setting for ie10 and ie11, we can refer to the following link:
How to configure Group Policy Preference settings for Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2898604
When we use GPPs you need to be aware of the F5-F8 keys:
Red / Green: GP Preferences doesn’t work even though the policy applied and after gpupdate \force
http://blogs.technet.com/b/grouppolicy/archive/2008/10/13/red-green-gp-preferences-doesn-t-work-even-though-the-policy-applied-and-after-gpupdate-force.aspx
Besides, aside from using group policy to manage IE, IEAK can also be used to do this.
For IEAK, the following article can be referred to for more information.

Corrupted Frame files not importing correctly to RoboHelp and can't save MIF as FM
Hi,
I have Adobe Technical Communication Suite 3.0, which has FrameMaker 10.0.2.249 in it.
I created a user guide in FrameMaker, some of the chapters for which I imported from Word, and little bits of text here and there of which I copied and pasted from Word.
a) When I created a RoboHelp project and imported the Frame files, a little bit of content disappeared. A sentence here, a bulleted item there, not all the content I copied and pasted.
b) I thought I would save the Frame files as .MIF and then reopen them in Frame to get rid of any corruption. They saved as .MIF just fine and they open again with Frame just fine. However, when I try to Save As .FM, I get the message that .MIF cannot be saved as .FM.
I checked the extension in the Save As box and it has no mention of .MIF.
What to do? Any suggestions either for a) or b)?This is a bug in the Save As dialog. If the filename is yourfile.FM, you
can choose MIF as the filetype in the Save as Type box, FrameMaker
changes the filename to yourfile.mif and saves as mif.
But, for some reason, if you have a filename of yourfile.MIF and choose
FM in the Save as Type dialog box, you get that error message and the
save doesn't happen. The workaround is to delete the MIF extension in
the filename. Then the save works fine and the file is renamed with an
FM extension.
In other words, saving FM to MIF works as expected. FrameMaker renames
the file extension and saves in the new format. But, in a MIF to FM
save, FrameMaker refused to rename the MIF extension. (Maybe there is a
reason for this?) You have to delete the extension or the save won't happen.
I'm going to report this as a bug.

Downloaded Firefox since several websites we use are not yet fully compatible with IE10. Since downloading IE10 will register a problem as soon as opened, shut down, then reopen to same page. Also have adds embedded in websites like Facebook that were not there previously, as well as popups from Firefox (Deal Caddy???) that I can't figure out how to disable. Also noticed that the two-finger scrolling in Windows 8 (when using IE10) no longer works correctly. These issues only exist for one of two users on this computer. The user that did not install Firefox does not have the above issues.
In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:
#From the Firefox window click the Firefox button at the top left and select ''Add-ons'', or, if the Firefox button is not shown, click the ''Tools'' menu and click ''Add-ons''.
#Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the ''Extensions'' button on the left side of the window.
#You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
#To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the ''Remove'' button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
#Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the ''Restart now'' link in the message.
You can find further information about uninstalling extensions in the following articles:

Hi,
We have been generating XML Help and then with a script changing tag names so that we can incorporate the Help into Eclipse.
However, in RoboHelp 9, RoboHelp adds BOM characters to the html files and Eclipse doesn't seem to handle these characters correctly (even though they are legal).
Is there a way to prevent RH from adding these characters?
I also saw that RH9 supports Eclipse Help - it has the same BOM characters so we couldn't really try it out. Is there any details somewhere on how to integrate the Eclipse Help that RH generates with Eclipse? Wehn we just add the files it doesn't seem to work. Are there instructions anywhere?
Thanks,

How to uninstall/deactivate Robohelp and Robodemo
I'm planning to get rid of some old computers and my
understanding is that I somehow need to deactivate my software to
free the license so that I can reactivate on new computers.
On one computer I have Robohelp X4.1 and Robodemo 2
On another computer I have Robohelp X5 and the
Roboscreencapture utility.
I wrote to customer support, but they haven't replied. I had
hoped there might be a menu item to 'transfer license' or
'deactivate', but I can find nothing on menus. Any advice will be
appreciated. thank you,
davidI think what you are referring to is something that for
RoboHelp was only introduced properly with RH6. With that you can
activate on two PCs but any futher attempts will be rejected until
you deactivate (not uninstall) one of the existing installations.
X5 required activation but it didn't check the number of
activations so you should also be OK on X4, or at least that is my
experience.
I can't speak for RoboDemo. My guess would be that if it
isn't on the help menu, then you will be OK. Can you not try
installing a copy on another PC to see if it whinges?
Recently I spoke at the activation people about another
application with proper activation (as in RH6) and found they were
very helpful. I think the link you would require is
http://www.adobe.com/activation.
