Robohelp 9 Freezing

I've updated to version 9.0.2, and today when I use the "File->open" function the program freezes. I have to use task manager to kill RH9.
I can open a project by double clicking the XPJ file, but while in the project the file open command freezes the program.
This is a huge issue, and I'm having trouble working around this as I need to create a merged project which requires being able to link to files.
Help!!!
Thank you,
Jerry

Possibly the dialog box has fallen into the gap between monitors.
Try this:
1. Select File > Open. Don't click anywhere after this.
2. Press Alt+Spacebar+M, then any arrow key.
3. Waggle the mouse until the dialog box attaches to your cursor, then click to drop it where you want it.
There's a more complicated method if that doesn't work (some dialog boxes don't open the context menu immediately for some reason):
1. Select File > Open. Don't click anywhere after this.
2. Press Alt+ Spacebar.
3. Press Left Arrow to move the cursor through the menu bar, back to the file menu, then press it once more. You should have a popup context menu display.
4.  Press M, then any arrow key.
5. Waggle the mouse as above.

  • RoboHelp freezes when I start my project

    Hi,
I'm testing RH7 to determine if I'll upgrade. Although I
could open my project initially, RoboHelp frequently froze, but now
it won't even open my project. When I try, RoboHelp hesitates for
some minutes, then reports that "RoboHelp Explorer is unable to
start Microsoft Word." This happens even if Word is already
running. I am able to open RH's sample project, and when I do, I
notice a RoboHelp menu item appears in Word that does not appear
when RoboHelp opens Word to open my project. I'm stuck. I tried the
installation repair process in the uninstall dialog box, but that
made no difference. Can anyone advise?

    Hi Peter,
Thank you for your help. Changing the security setting didn't
change the behavior, but I think I've resolved the problem with an
answer by Brian on this forum that sent me looking in the right
direction when he gave me a clue about a VB type mismatch error I
was also getting. I found the solution in Word's startup folder
where either deleting some apparently corrupted templates or
deleting the normal.dot template (or both) seemed to have solved
the problems, at least temporarily. I'm no longer seeing RH freeze
or the template detach or macro errors or VB errors.

  • Robohelp freezes when inserting large Captivate Demo

When I try to insert a demo from My Captivate Projects, it
suddenly freezes. It has happened several times. Any ideas on what
I am doing wrong. Thank you!

    Hi there
You may experiencing what I frequently used to. Do you also
have Captivate open on your PC? Here's the deal. I use both
RoboHelp and Captivate and also frequently combine the two. So
perhaps I just created a Captivate piece and want to use it in
RoboHelp. I flip between the two and attempt to insert the
Captivate. Then a hang. What gives?
Well, odd as it may seem, until you actually close the
Captivate project in Captivate, it sort of has "hooks" into it. By
closing the project in Captivate, I'm able to seamlessly insert it
    into RoboHelp.
Hopefully this helps you out... Rick

  • RoboHelp freezing when importing large word docs

What are your experiences with RoboHelp for HTML Help when
    importing large Word docs?
Mine seems to stop responding and has to be restarted. Also,
creating PDFs for large docs seems to be a problem.
While I am here, could someone please answer these questions:
    1. Does RoboHelp support conditional inclusion/exclusion and
replacement of text? Where you can use a condition to display one
    text OR another.
    2. Does Robo support Modular Help?
    3. What about automating output generation using batch files?
    Is this possible?
    4. Can PDF outputs be customized using templates?
it looks like Robo offers partial solutions to each of the
above questions but I will like to hear your experiences, as I am
on evaluation the tool with limited time.
    TIA.

  • RoboHelp freeze at Project Opening

    Dear RoboHelp user community,
I recently moved from RoboHelp7 to RoboHelp8.0.2 and I am facing very slow performances at Project Opening (more than an hour)
The Project is quite big, and may have been corrupted. I was wondering if there is an utility, or operations to perform that would allow me to fix the project and be able to work again!
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Valerian

    Hi there
Where exactly is the project stored? Many folks have reported dreadfully slow performance when the project is stored on a network drive and you try to open and edit from there.
If that's the case for you, you should seriously consider moving the project to your local C drive in order to work on it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • RoboHelp/RoboPDF freezes when trying to generate PDF printed documentation

    Hi,
I am using RoboHelp HTML X5.0.2 build 801 with Win2k and Word
2000. Whenever I try to generate printed documentation in PDF
format RoboHelp freezes and doesn't respond until I kill the
program. I also tried first generating the printed documentation in
MS Word .doc format and then tried to generate the PDF from within
Word. RoboPDF kicks in this time and freezes along with MS Word.
Any ideas why this is happening?

It works on anything we throw at it. You could try the
    supplied sample projects.
Have you tried creating a document directly in Word and
    creating a PDF from that?
Where is you normal template stored? Locally?
Take a look at Snippet 33 on my site. You should be getting
an error message if that is the problem but it might be worth
    checking the path anyway.
    Click
    here.
If that does not fix it, email me offline.

  • Robohelp 7 freezes when trying to insert an image

Not sure how this happened, but now I can't insert images
into my RoboHelp 7 project. Now when I attempt to go to Insert >
Image and then click the folder to browse for an image to insert,
Robohelp freezes until I hit the escape button. This is surely a
    bug. I'm on Windows XP.
As a workaround, I have to drag the images into the project
folder manually and then select them from the list or type their
    names in the field.

It sounds like the Insert Image dialog box has somehow fallen off the edge of your screen (Esc is closing the dialog box, returning focus to the main RoboHelp window). Try this:
    1. Press Alt, Spacebar, M
    2. Press any arrow key.
    3. Waggle the mouse madly until the dialog box appears on your screen.
    4. Click to drop the screen where you want it.

  • RoboHelp 8 Freezes When Trying to Use Any Open Dialog

The title pretty well says it all. RoboHelp freezes when I try to use Open... from the Starter screen or File>Open or any other control that accesses the open dialog (i.e., the open/explore button on the Content Settings tab in the FrameMaker Document Settings dialog). I have to end the process in the Task Manager and restart RoboHelp. (Fortunately, the Recent Projects links work – except for Open..., of course.)
I discovered this when I had to restore links to moved FrameMaker documents. My installation is TCS2 running on Windows 7 32-bit; all updates to all TCS2 components and Windows 7 have been installed.
I tried an in-place reinstall of RoboHelp, but that didn't make any difference.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    John

Hi John and welcome to the RH community.
I'd check that you have both of the 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 updates installed. Also ensure your RH source files are not located on a network drive. Bare in mind that whilst some users manage to run RH under Windows 7, others have reported problems. You should also note that Windows 7 is not an officially supported platform for RH usage.

  • RoboHelp 8 freezes when compiling WebHelp

I'm working with a project in RoboHelp 8. The project was created in RH5, but has been updated and run successfully on RH8. The project is about 35 MB.
I am able to open the project and edit topics. But when I try to compile the help RoboHelp freezes, and I have to use Windows Task Manager to close RoboHelp.
I have tried to rename the CPD and use the existing XPJ to open the project, but that didn't work. I also tried to use the HHP file to open it, but I keep getting a message that the CPD is corrupt and that the project can't be opened.

Are you absolutely sure you imported source files into the project rather than output files? The clue will be a red square near the beginning of the topics.
I don't think memory is the issue. I have one machine with a similar spec and that is running Windows 7 and RoboHelp quite happily. More likely is those topics.
First though, I don't think we have tried opening the supplied sample projects. Try that and make some edits. I want to prove the problem is this project. If they work OK, then it does point to the project.
No matter what you do it seems when you open a project, you can edit quite happily until you try compiling. Are you saving as you go? If you edit, save and close, then reopen, is everything OK until you then try to compile.
How big is this project? My inclination if it is not too big would be to create a new project and import a batch of files at a time, edit and compile. When it falls over, you know where the rogue file(s) are. If it is large, make a copy and trash half the topics. If it then works, you picked the wrong half, so make another copy and trash the other half, then split that. Keep doing that until you have the problem files in a small project. Or maybe you already know what the problem files are.
I would put the content of those into a text editor, then paste that into a new topic, reformat as required. That way you don't import the problem content.

  • RoboHelp for Word cannot open Word with Word 2007

Thanks for your leignancy, I'm having trouble even starting
to work with RoboHelp. I think I need detailed explanations. I did
spend hours sifting through Robohelp's Help and this Forum, I'm
    stuck.
    I am trying to use
RoboHelp for Word 7.0 , build 001, with Word 2007 on Vista.
I need to work on help projects created with a previous
    version of RoboHelp.
For some reason, when I open RoboHelp, the .doc file opens in
Word next to it, but then RoboHelp freezes for several minutes,
then I get a dialog box that says
"RoboHelp" could not open Word .
Then anytime I try to modify a topic in my help file, I get
the same stall and error message, and my Word document stays stuck
at the beginning on my first topic.
    Also, in Word,
all Robohelp options don't work. I can't search for a topic
for instance to locate it and modify it. When I click on search for
a topic from the menu on top, nothing happens at all. If I click on
search a topic from the right-click menu, then I get a message that
because of security or confidentiality settings, the
    Macros don't work.
I tried re-activating all Macros in Word 2007 Options, I
closed everything, even re-booted the computer, but to no avail.
Also, I tried saving my .doc into a .docx (Word 2007 format)
to see if the Macros would be compatible then, but I got the exact
    same results.
Right now, RoboHelp and Word don't seem to be "talking" to
each other right, and the Macros don't work.
Plus: I tried to test a modification I made in the .doc file
by generating the WebHelp, but that didn't work either, I got an
error message saying that the file couldn't be opened, but the path
to the file was all wrong, with folder names I don't even have on
    my computer.
If someone could figure this one out for me, I'd be very
thankful, I'm the kind of person who likes something to work in a
simple, linear way, 1-2-3... This is totally confusing for me right
    now.

Ok, isn't that what I did when I re-activated the Macros in
    Word 2007?
Word Options / security - confidentiality center / Parameters
Activate all Macros (the lowest one on the list)
Did that already. Also, I made backups of my projects, and
tried with a new "brew" just in case I had messed it up along the
    way somewhere.
First thing I did when I opened it again was change the
output to WebHelp instead of WinHelp 4, since I can't open that in
    Vista anymore.
I can generate the help in that format, but either way I try
to make any modification it's not taken into account when I
    generate it.
    Example:
In the french help project which I'm working on, I had a
    tittle that was miss-spelled.
I tried modifying in in the Word .doc document, then generate
the help, but the title was still wrong.
So I tried changing in directly in Robohelp with the topic's
    properties.
When I clicked OK, it stalled forever again, and then it said
it couldn't take the modifications into account.
And any text I cut and paste or changed in the .doc on Word
    remains unchanged in the WebHelp....
Right now, the more I try, the more I'm stuck and the more
questions I get. I'm seriously thinking I'd need some live
coaching, on a chat or something, to get me started on the right
track. Is there anyone who can do that? I'm so awfully stuck right
now. And I feel like I'd unfurl a tsunami of ridiculous questions
if I posted them all on the Forum now...
    *EXTRA*
I did all the updates (7.0.3) and right now I'm re-installing
    everything.
    Arghhh.
I missed one of the last days of ski this season, spent my
    whole week-end with this.
I'm trying to sound rational and calm, but I'm actually so
tired and exasperated, I'd have jumped through the window already
if we weren't on the first floor... Still stuck at Step 1...
    What am I missing??

  • RoboHelp 10 .apj file error issues & crashing on save and generate

    Hello All!
I am working with a large FM book (100+ FM files) that we have linked to a RoboHelp 10 project.
Everytime I update my RH project I am getting this error:
I have tried copying the folder, deleting the .apj file, and reopening. RHopens just fine.
The other major issue I am having is when I save and generate the project RoboHelp freezes up and won't save & generate the layout.
I have all of the FM files open and updated. Everything that can be updated in RH before save and genereate is updated. Any ideas??
    Thanks!!

I have moved this post to FrameMaker Integration as I think it will do better there.

  • Rh 10 can't produce printed documentation.

I have a small project of about 20 topics so far and tried to produce printed documentation as PDF and as Word, but neither would work. I kept getting an errow that said:
Waiting for Printed Documentation VBA Macros to be registered.
Failed to register Printed Documentation VBA Macros.
Then Robohelp freezes and I have to use the Task Manager to close it. After it closes I see this error message.
I looked at online help for Word,  about disabling macros which you can access in Word's Trust Center. But the Help advised against it, says it's dangerous to disable macros. I'm not sure how to fix this. Any ideas?
I have Windows 8, and am saving to a local drive.

I hope you mean "enabled" the macros.

  • RoboHELP HTML Freezes Different Ways

Using Windows XP and RoboHELP HTML 6.0:
If I start RoboHELP HTML from the START > Programs menu,
it freezes almost instantly and requires END TASK.
If I double-click a previously created .xpj file in Windows
Explorer view, then RH HTML starts up and I can work in the project
file... but if I try to IMPORT a file into the project file
list/topics, then the application freezes again. I'm only trying to
import an HTML file that was originally created with RoboHELP for
    another project.
    Why does RH freeze up??

Did this by chance happen to start after you had used a dual
monitor configuration? Folks around here are probably thinking I
believe that's the cause of every problem, but in some cases, we
have found that disappearing dialogs and "freezes" are actually
caused by going from dual monitors to one monitor, and dialogs are
appearing off-screen (which then makes RH look like it's inactive
    and not working).
One experiment you can try with either "freeze" that you've
listed is to hit the Esc key and see if RH livens up again. If
there is a dialog open, Esc closes it and returns you to RH.
    Just a thought,
    Ben

  • RoboHelp HTML freezes when importing topic

Ok, I have never had a problem with Robohelp before, so I am
a bit confused. I start a new project, and import my first word
doc. The word doc imports, but the application freezes up and the
only thing I can do is kill the application through task manager. I
re-open the project and it freezes again. What am I doing
    wrong?

Is the problem with the word document. Create a new project
and import a different word file. If that works you know the
problem is with your word doc. Then cut/paste half the content into
another Word document and import that. Continue until you have the
application freeze. This should allow you to home in on what is
    causing the problem.

  • RoboHelp HTML - Trying to open any browse or explorer window causes a freeze

    Hi,
I am using RoboHelp 9 HTML. Trying to open any Browsing window in the project, like the browse button in Insert Image or even a project, not through Recent, causes the application to freeze.
I tried uninstalling and re-installing with no luck.
    Please any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Or maybe the dialog boxes have somehow moved off the screen. Usually this happens when switching between single/multi monitors, e.g. when working on a laptop on the train vs tethered to a larger monitor at work/home. Even if you haven't worked with multiple monitors, it's possible something weird could have caused this to happen.
    Anyway, try the following:
    1. Open a problem window. Make sure you don't click anywhere after doing this.
    2. Press Alt Spacebar M.
    3. Press any arrow key.
    4. Waggle the mouse madly until the dialog box appears.
    5. Click to place it where you want.
Hopefully this is the problem and fixing one window should fix all of the "file open" type dialog boxes.

  • RoboHelp 8 freezes when I try to open my .xpj

I double-click my .xpj file and RH starts, sometimes it freezes with only the splash screen visible, sometimes it displays the pods but when I click on one RH freezes. I've tried deleting the .cpd and restarting, but get the same result. I am hosed at this point and desperate for help. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Glad you found the solution. You were able to amend your XPJ file which is better than deleting it. Sometimes just deleting it will fix things but that way you can lose other vital information. If ever you have to resort to that extreme, some fixes are on my site under Opening Projects.
