RoboHelp is unable to start RoboHelp Explorer

I recently installed RoboHelp 9 on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit computer. I worked in it for a day, editing a previously existing robohelp file that was created in version 6. Yesterday when I tried to open RoboHelp, it wouldn't open. The RoboHelp splash page quickly flashes on and off but does not open. I went to the .doc file for the project and tried to open that, but Word gives me an error that "RoboHelp is unable to start RoboHelp Explorer". It does open the word doc, but no RoboHelp Explorer. I've rebooted my machine, no luck.
Any ideas? I had this same issue with Adobe Captivate when I tried to load an old version on this machine... the answer seemed to be that it wasn't compatible with 64-bit... I installed the trial version of Captivate and have been running that for two weeks with no issues so far. But my understanding was that RoboHelp 9 was fine with 64-bit...
Thanks!

Hello again
You should probably consider filing a bug report. That way it will be on Adobe's radar. And you never know, sometimes the development team shoots back a message advising what to do or asking for further information. Doesn't happen always, but once in a while it does.
Cheers... Rick

  • Robohelp is unable to start Microsoft Word - one more time

    Hello,
I read the previous post on this error and though the message is the same, I do not think the circumstances are.
I am using xp prof, office 2010 (recently installed), and after that I recently d/l Robohelp 9 from the website.
I am having many problems involving this message, but I set out today to get the simplest problem i could.
So, i opened RH 9 from the start menu/all programs. I selected 'new project' and filled in the title and file name (project2_title, project2_file)
The RH explorer opens.  Word 2010 opens.  The RH explorer still has an hourglass.  After 1-2 minutes, the hourglass is gone and the error message 'Robohelp is unable to start Microsoft Word' appears.
    I click 'ok'
Hourglass, blanked out RH explorer which eventually does return.
I click ctrl_t for a new topic, get the dialog, accept the defaults,  and eventually the hour glass goes away and I have the same error message.
I click ok and i do not have the new topic when i expand the topic list.
When i first started this, i was able to add a topic, but no longer. (last week was when i started).
I have also tried to open the existing topic that was created using rh7 and having opened it, tried generating primary layout.  I got an error file with an error for almost every topic. (But this can be the next problem).
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Miriam

    Hello Miriam Schneidmill,
    You can try this workaround.
First of all close Robohelp Word
    Go to    C:\Users\Username\AppData\Microsoft\Templates
and look for RoboHELP.dot and just rename that file extension to old, ggod or anything you wish, say Robohelp.bad.
    Then close this.
Now try to open Robohelp Word and see are you facing the same issue or not?
    Hope it helps!!!
    Thank you

  • Robohelp explorer is unable to start microsoft word

    Hello,
Sorry for this issue, but I have it till today, and I've found no way to correct this.
    What has been done:
Initially, I've installed RoboHelp on an office 2003. As it was quite buggy, I've installed office 2010 and robohelp was stronger.
Today, I had a strange message telling me about security stuff on Microsoft office, when I've tried to open my project.
Till then, when I open a project, Word 2010 is launched with correct contents but Robohelp tells me it is not possible to start microsoft word.
When I open a new project, the new project is generated correctly in Word, but, Robohelp still telling me that word can not be launched.
    What I use:
    - RoboHelp for Word 9.0 updated in 9.0.2
    What I've tried:
    - Uninstall many times to uninstall/reinstall Robohelp -> NOK
    - Check in regedit if the RoboHelp paths are correct -> corrected and still NOK
    - Uninstall Office 2010, uninstall Robohelp, install office 2010, install Robohelp, applied the last patches -> NOK
    - Checked if robohelp.dot was in my project directory -> not existed and NOK
    - Copied robohelp.dot from installation to the template directory -> NOK
So, no solutions worked and I don't know what I can do further.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
      Philippe.

I'm not a RoboHelp for Word user so I'm not sure I can help. Do you have the correct version of Word specified in Tools > Options. Beyond that I think you might have to contact Adobe.

  • RoboHelp unable to start word

Using RoboHelp 7 & Word 2003 (service packs installed) on
    XP.
I try to open an old project RoboHelp 6.
    Word Starts.
However after a long period of time I get a dialog box
saying: 'RoboHelp Explorer is unable to start Microsoft Word'.
Bit of a show stopper... What can I do to get past this
    hurdle?
    Thanks
    Damian

Does not appear to be this issue.
I believe that the installation is not valid. I originally
installed without word being present (nothing in the quick start
    about order of installation!).
I have subsequently uninstalled robohelp and reinstalled
however the Tool Locations says that robohelp was not installed for
    this version of Word...
I am working through technote rb_3023.

  • RoboHelp Error Message - Unable to start Word

I just recently updated to the full version of 6.0 (I was
previously using X5 and had the 6.0 Upgrade). When I open the
RoboHelp Explorer and try to load any of my projects, the correct
Word document opens at the start, but then the Explorer hangs. If I
click anywhere, I get the error message, "RoboHelp Explorer was
    unable to start Word."
Another person has been able to open the same project from
their machine. I've tried copying the templates from the other user
(Local Disk > Documents and Settings (user) > Application
Data > Microsoft > Templates) as well as the Adobe templates
    (Program Files > Adobe > RoboHelp 6.0 > RoboHELP >
Template > Custom > Custom 1 and Custom 2). I have also tried
deleting the .RTF files from the project so that they'd have to
    re-generate.
The other user is still on X5 with the 6.0 Upgrade. Is the
problem specific to that? Has anyone else seen this error message
    before?

    Hi Kaherns,
I've experienced the same problem, solved it as described
below. Not the must beautiful solution, but better than
reinstalling RH each and every day.
In my case, the "unable to start Word" problem was related to
a .dot file mess up created by RH in
    Local Disk>Documents and Settings (user)>Application
    Data>Microsoft>Templates.
    1. Reinstall RH.
    2. In Windows Explorer, open the
    Local Disk>Documents and Settings (user)>Application
    Data>Microsoft>Templates folder.
    3. Make a backup of the fresh, non-corrupted RoboHELP.dot by
copying (not moving) it to any place on your computer or network.
    4. When RH shows "Unable to start Word", close the project
    and RH.
    5. In Windows Explorer, open the
    Local Disk>Documents and Settings (user)>Application
    Data>Microsoft>Templates folder.
    6. Make sure that hidden files are shown (
    Tools>Folder options>View...).
    7. Delete
    RoboHELP.dot,
    ~$boHELP.dot, and
    ~$Normal.dot.
    8. Copy the backup RoboHELP.dot created in step 3 to the
    Local Disk>Documents and Settings (user)>Application
    Data>Microsoft>Templates folder.
    9. Restart Word. If prompted to start Word in safe mode,
    select
    No.
Now, my RH does this a couple of times per day so I use a
batch file, instead of copying files manually:
    1. Create a copy of the
    Local Disk>Documents and Settings (user)>Application
Data>Microsoft>Templates folder (on the desktop, for
    example).
    2. Make sure that the folder contains a non-corrupted
    RoboHELP.dot file and that
    ~$boHELP.dot, and
~$Normal.dot are not in the folder.
    3. Insert the below code in a text file and save it as a .bat
on an easy-to-access place (the desktop, for example).
    @echo off
    rmdir /s /q "C:\Documents and
    Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates"
    xcopy /s /i "<path to copied Templates folder>"
    "C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application
    Data\Microsoft\Templates"
    4. As RH goes bananas, close RH and then double click the
.bat file. The corrupted files are now replaced.
    5. Open RH.
Of course, I take no resonsibility for any problems you might
    run into trying the above.

  • 0xc000007  The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Get this when run RoboHelp 10

I get a RoboHTML.exe - Application Error when I try to start RoboHelp 10 HTML.  It says:
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).  Click OK to close the application.
I have uninstalled and re-installed RoboHelp 10 several times but it made no difference.
    What can I do?
    Thanks,
    Diane Heald
    [Email removed]

Yes it did work fine.  The problem was that I could not view the Single Source JavaHelp output on my PC after I generated it. I know you have to download Java JDK, etc. and I've done that many times over the years and each time it was a huge hassle, but finally got it to work.
But RoboHelp worked fine and the output worked fine in my customer's Java program.  Since I could not view the output, a programmer at my client's site looked up the error message online and gave me some links to look at.  I did what one of those links said by downloading something.  I don't remember what at this point.  It was then that I would get the message anytime I tried to run RoboHelp.  So I cannot run RoboHelp now.
If I can just get rid of this error message and be able to run RoboHelp, I am OK with not even being able to run the JavaHelp viewer.  I've dealt with that many times over the years on various computers and it is always a huge hassle.  I'll just look at it after my customer loads it into their application.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide!
    Diane

  • RoboHelp unable to start Microsoft Word

    Running Win 2K SP4, Robo X5.0.1, Word 2003.
Opening existing project (new to me) puts Word in wrong size
window (overlaps editor) and I can't get back to RoboHelp editor
window (busy/hourglass) unless I close the Word window first.
Closing the Word window gets a message that RoboHelp editor is
unable to start Microsoft Word, even though Word was running.
However, after closing Word, I could get back to RoboHelp editor
    window.
I can start a new project and import the .doc files. That
works okay as far as the above problem is concerned, but tends to
make a mess and needs lots of recovery work for things like browse
    sequences.

    Hi Rick,
You're absolutely right about Blue Sky. In the beginning,
RoboHelp was not the best product, but it had better marketing on
the enterprize level so I wound up having to use it.
    Hi Peter,
(By the way, this is a stand-alone machine on a home network
and I am the only user for this particular machine. I run from a
    renamed admin account.)
The Help menu indicates that there are no available updates.
I have checked everything on your site that seemed to have ANY
relevance at all. (Thanks for a great site.) I didn't find anything
under either print or install that helped, but I may not have
thought how you might index this problem. I have also checked all
the topics in this forum without finding anything on this
    particular problem.
In the mean time, the overlap seems to be gone (i.e., the
window position is now as it should be), but I'm still locked out
of the RoboHelp pane whenever Word is open (by RH) and I still get
the "unable to start Microsoft Word" error message after I close
Word. RH doesn't seem to be getting the message that Word has
    opened the requested file.
Thanks for the effort you are putting in on this.

  • RoboHelp freezes when I start my project

    Hi,
I'm testing RH7 to determine if I'll upgrade. Although I
could open my project initially, RoboHelp frequently froze, but now
it won't even open my project. When I try, RoboHelp hesitates for
some minutes, then reports that "RoboHelp Explorer is unable to
start Microsoft Word." This happens even if Word is already
running. I am able to open RH's sample project, and when I do, I
notice a RoboHelp menu item appears in Word that does not appear
when RoboHelp opens Word to open my project. I'm stuck. I tried the
installation repair process in the uninstall dialog box, but that
made no difference. Can anyone advise?

    Hi Peter,
Thank you for your help. Changing the security setting didn't
change the behavior, but I think I've resolved the problem with an
answer by Brian on this forum that sent me looking in the right
direction when he gave me a clue about a VB type mismatch error I
was also getting. I found the solution in Word's startup folder
where either deleting some apparently corrupted templates or
deleting the normal.dot template (or both) seemed to have solved
the problems, at least temporarily. I'm no longer seeing RH freeze
or the template detach or macro errors or VB errors.

  • Open project was canceled or RoboHelp was unable to load database

I have Robohelp 2002r2 and am creating Robohelp HTML help.
The project was ok yesterday but today when I try to open it I get
the error message "Open project was canceled or RoboHelp was unable
to load database". I tried the solutions in the knowledgebase
(rb_3245) but still no luck. I can't even create a new project
either or I get the same message. Anybody know what to
    do????

    Welcome to the forum.
The message is usually easily dealt with. I haven't checked
the article as you didn't include a link but I'm guessing it
involved deleting a couple of files and then using the HHP file to
    open the project.
What is more worrying is that you cannot create a new
    project.
Have you tried opening one of the supplied sample files?
Are your projects stored locally and not on a network?
Have IT given you a new profile to log on with?
Has anything else changed in your environment?

  • Project Error: Open project was canceled or RoboHelp was unable to load database

    Hi,
I checked an HTMLHelp project out of SourceOff Site (SOS),
then attempted to open it locally with RoboHelp 5 when I got the
error message: "Open project was cancelled or RoboHelp was unable
    to load database."
I found the TechNote for this error message (rb_3245) which
said to delete the .xpj and .cpd files, then right-click the HHP
file and click Edit to open the project. This worked fine for
opening the project, however the Primary Layout Source defaulted to
WebHelp. I reset the Primary Layout Source to HTMLHelp which caused
all of the graphics in the project to not display. I fixed this
issue, compiled the Help, and all appeared to be fixed. I checked
the project back into SOS to back it up. This morning, I checked it
out of SOS and tried to open the project locally again, only to get
the same error. I closed the project, undid the check-out, and
asked another writer to check-out the project then open it locally
to see if he got the same error. He did not get the error.
I am not sure what could be wrong on my computer that is
causing this error. I had no problems opening and using this
project until yesterday and I made no file name or path changes to
the project. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

  • RoboHelp 7 - unable to Compile

RoboHelp 7 - Microsoft HTML Help - the Compile hangs up when it reaches "Updating topics" stage & only way to exit is to Crtl-Alt-Delete - the
"Task Manager" lists two instances of "RoboHelp not responding" .  When 1 is highlighted and End Task is selected, both are removed.
Then we opened RobHelp project, closed project and closed RobHelp and then started RoboHelp and tried to 'compile' again, same thing happens ?
After 2nd time we 'shut down' computer , then restarted but that didn't help.  Is there some way to correct this?

  • Unable to install robohelp plugin for framemaker

    Hi,
I have FM8 and RoboHelp HTML 9. When I open a new project and try to import a FrameMaker document or book I get the "unable to install robohelp plugin for framemaker" error.
I tried with FrmaMaker open and closed - same thing.
With RH7 it used to work.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Rakefet

Unsure about the plugin message, but you can import FM into RH9. The problem may be that you have a current RH9, but not a current FM10. Try downloading a trial of FM10, create a v10 copy of your book, and see if that imports.
Mark's comment applies to linking, but not to importing.

I am unable to start Firefox. Getting message that it's already running. Can't find my profile using "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles|". Rebooting my computer didn't help. Since I experienced that problem I also noticed that all my bookmarks which I had copied into the Windows Internet Explorer have also disappeared. I am using Firefox as my primary search engine and usually don't use Internet Explorer. I am running Windows 7 on my machine.

    Hi Tim,
    Uninstalling
KB3045999 works as a workaround like Wastashi said. We too have this problem.
@Karen Hu: Startup repair didn't find anything here and this is probably because the system boots properly but only after a user logs in the "Error: userinit.exe - Application Error : The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000018)"
appears. Safe mode works however and after I disabled all the startup items and rebooted I could successfully logon once, but this could be coincidence because sometimes after a reboot you can login as pointed out by Tim NL. However a few seconds
after I successfully logged in and saw the desktop, the pc rebooted spontaneously. Any idea what this could be causing? Virus scanner maybe?

RoboHelp 7 for Word versus RoboHelp 7 HTML
Can someone explain very simply when and why you use one but
not the other? I'm a little confused. We have RoboHelp 7 Server
installed and I think using RoboHelp 7 is the way to go, and I know
the server does allow to track usage, frequently viewed, etc. I
guess I just don't understand the purpose of RoboHelp 7 for Word -
what it is used for and it's capabilities when compared to HTML.
I have tons of pages of process documentation created from
Word. I need to make these available online thru RoboHelp, so am
just looking at different ways to distribute and explore all my
options. We're currently experiencing difficulties in publishing
RoboHelp HTML projects to the server.
    Thanks!

    Hi hughbetcha
If your output is going to be HTML based (and if you have
RoboHelp Server, it will be) then I would recommend RoboHelp HTML
    hands down.
