Rollover effect

Hi everyone, I wanted to create a menu that has a rollover effect to a different image as in  http://www.eastsidecranehire.com.au/index.html
on the right hand side in our fleet, there are some red menu links that when you scroll over them, the image above changes. I think this is using flash?
I know I cant use the swap image behaviour in dreamweaver cs4 as the 2 images have to be the same size.
Hopefully it is using some sort of java script. Thanks!

This was done in Flash probably for the effect that you see in the image that changes (a white silhouette slides in behind the crane picture). If you can live without that you can accomplish the same thing with a jQuery slider. Check this one out, it's pretty easy to modify if you've worked with CSS and JavaScript before:

  • Rollover effects on links not displaying correctly

    Hi there,
    I have added rollover effects to links on a website I am working on.  However, some of them do not display properly when uploaded.  Here is a link to the website:
    http://www.southernprairierailway.com/
    You will notice on the home page in the "News" column there is a "CLICK HERE to view our blog" link, but it is displaying in blue making it very hard to read. I have a class assigned to it so that it is the same color as the rest of the text in the column, but when you mouse over it changes to bold and underlined (which it does).
    Also, on the history page, there is a link to the photo gallery and again, it is not displaying properly.
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    Links have five states: link, visited, hover, active, focus.
    You need to define CSS rules for all of them.
    In the absence of a:visited, you're seeing an unstyled, browser default a:visited link.
    Try
    #clickhere a:link, #clickhere a:visited {
    font-family: Helvetica, Verdana, Arial;
    font-size: 14px;
    color: #E7E0D3;
    #clickhere a:hover, #clickhere a:active, #clickhere a:focus {
    font-family: Helvetica, Verdana, Arial;
    font-size: 14px;
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #E7E0D3;
    text-decoration: underline;

  • Trying to make Tile Transition Effect a rollover effect

    Hello all-
    I'm a newbie to AS3 and I'm hoping someone can help me. I am trying to make the Tile Transition Effect, from flash-filter.net, into a rollover effect. I originally began working off of the 3D Cube Rollover Transition script and I was able to get the rollover part to work but as soon as the first transition is done I get this error message:
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at net.flashfilter.as3.effects.tileflip::TileFlip3D/processFrame()
    at net.flashfilter.as3::PaperBase/onRenderFrame()
    I realize that the error itself means that I am trying to call something that is not instantiated yet, but I am unsure where my code is wrong, and I am also unclear on what the 2nd and 3rd lines mean. Here is the code:
    btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, _onOver);
    btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, _onOut);
    var running = false;
    var goIn = false;
    var goOut = false;
    function _onOver(e:MouseEvent){
    if(!running){
    _createAnimation("in");
    running = true;
    }else{
    goIn = false;
    goOut = true;
    function _onOut(e:MouseEvent){
    if(!running){
    _createAnimation("out");
    running = true;
    }else{
    goIn = true;
    goOut = false;
    function _inAnimationDone(e:Event){
    e.target.removeFilter();
    img1.visible = false;
    if(goIn){
    _createAnimation("out");
    }else{
    running = false;
    goOut = false;
    function _outAnimationDone(e:Event){
    e.target.removeFilter();
    img2.visible = false;
    if(goOut){
    _createAnimation("in");
    }else{
    running = false;
    goIn = false;
    function _createAnimation(dir:String){
    var myFilter:TileTransitionEffectAS3 = new TileTransitionEffectAS3();
    myFilter.mouseEnabled = false;
    myFilter.mouseChildren = false;
    addChild(myFilter);
    if(dir == "in"){
    myFilter.init(img1, img2, 10, 20, 40, 40, "Mode7", "l->r");
    myFilter.addEventListener(TileTransitionEffectAS3.ANIMATION_DONE, _inAnimationDone);
    }else if(dir == "out"){
    myFilter.init(img2, img1, 10, 20, 40, 40, "Mode7", "r->l");
    myFilter.addEventListener(TileTransitionEffectAS3.ANIMATION_DONE, _outAnimationDone);
    Thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to shed some light on the situation!

    I'm assuming that you want to do something like the push into all of the stills. There's no real trick, there is just a bunch of work. You have to distribute your layers in 3D space and animate the camera. I'd suggest you start with simple moves with just 3 or 4 layers. Get that right, then start adding layers until you've achieved the complexity you desire.
    If I had the artwork and were to try and match the camera move that happens around 7 seconds I'd budget about a half hour. The move from 15 seconds to about 18 seconds is mostly a single setup repeated 3 times. Something that complex would take me about an hour and a half but it could easily take all day, depending on the images needed and whether or not I had to do a bunch of resizing to complete the project.
    The other option would be to use the Card Dance plug-in. Card Dance is a complex plug-in that requires some training to use. To learn more type card dance into the search field in AE and look at the training materials. The move on the red layer with all the squares at about 1:47 could be created quite quickly with Card Dance.

  • Rollover effects

    what i want to achieve is a rollover effect, when i rollover my home button i would like a line with the button (PHOTOGRAPHY) to transition fade in and appear next to it. Example is provided.

    wow yes! That is exactly what i was looking for! How did you achieve this?
    I don't know how to place something inside the target container. In your video how did you place the blue bar within the target container?

  • Rollover effects are lost when exported as Fireworks HTML

    I created a simple graphic in Fireworks, which has a rollover
    effect. The finished symbol was assigned a LINK, ALT and TARGET in
    Fireworks, and exported as an .htm file. Every slice was selected
    and saved in the IMAGES folder.
    After I placed the htm file in Dreamweaver, I previewed it in
    Safari and FireFox. It worked perfectly. After I uploaded it to the
    Web Host, however, all effects were lost.
    Here is the link:
    http://www.jlwa.net
    The effects are limited to the word "enter."
    If anyone sees what I'm doing wrong, please let me know.
    THANKS!

    though, my experience has not been good doing the build in
    Dreamweaver. Perhaps it is because I'm on a Mac...I don't
    know...everytime I try that the finish result pulls apart at the
    seams when viewed on a PC.
    On this page, for example:
    http://www.jlwa.net/projects.html,
    the Accordion (when viewed on a PC) has horizontal gaps between
    each of the Accordion's tabs, and all of the text, despite being
    set at "left" justification, appears as if I centered it. I'm still
    wrestling with this page to get it right.
    Thanks again - Paul
    Hmm. It looks okay in Chrome, but I see it pulls apart in IE
    7. That is probably due to inconsistencies in CSS rendering between
    the different browsers. Using Fireworks won't help you with that.
    You're going to have to modify the CSS to account for browser
    differences if you want it to address those little spaces. The CSS
    for the Spry accordion element is very simple and I don't see any
    hacks to get around the box model differences that I know people
    use. You might ask on the Dreamweaver forum, but it certainly isn't
    anything that Fireworks is going to fix for you.
    Also, there are some other maintenance issues I see in your
    page. Your navigation images are directly using the Fireworks
    naming scheme, such as jlwa_main_r2_c2_f2.jpg. When you export your
    images from Fireworks, give them good, reasonable names so that you
    can maintain the code. You have a row of unnecessary spacer gifs in
    your header. You should pull your CSS out into a separate file,
    rather than having it embedded into each and every file. That way,
    you only need to edit it in one place to have it take effect
    everywhere. Give your styles meaningful names, too, descriptive of
    their purpose. You have style1, style4, style5. If you want to edit
    them, you don't even know what they are without digging into the
    HTML code.

  • Rollover Effects -- Just Limited to Text... Need Them for Other Objects!

    Help!
    I am a print graphic designer who doesn't want to take the time to learn Dreamweaver, etc. I simply want to get my work samples online. So I bought iWeb '08 and have been tinkering with it.
    My question about rollovers for link effects: the rollover capability works just fine if the link is just straight text. My problem is that I decided to drop some shapes behind the text links so they would look more like buttons.
    When I did this the rollover effects quit working! (Ironically, the effects work just fine when viewing the site in Internet Explorer but DON'T work when viewed with Safari or Firefox.)
    Am I doing something wrong? Is there away that I haven't found yet to make rollover effects for something other than text objects?
    For example, if there was a way to do it, I could easily make gifs of before-rollover/after-rollover versions of the buttons. In fact, I would prefer that way, if possible, so I could control the look of the buttons.
    Is this just wishful thinking, or is there some workaround?
    I appreciate anyone's suggestions.

    Hi there,
    It's not wishful thinking... It's real!
    As a graphic designer you might have experience with photoshop.
    If so you can easily create your own button images and then have a look at the following page:
    http://web.mac.com/catucker/InsideOutside/Rollover.html
    It does work and it's quite easy (just tested it myself a few minutes ago).

  • Rollover effects in custom JTableHeader

    My application requires JTable to have headers that span multiple columns. As this feature does not have native support in JTableHeader, the only way I am aware to achieve this functionality is to create a subclass of JTableHeader, and a subclass of BasicTableHeaderUI, with a custom paint method that invokes header's (or column's) TableCellRenderer in the required size and shape. There are examples for how this can be done in various places.
    When this technique is applied, and the customized JTableHeader is inserted into a JTable, the multi-column effect becomes functional, but the appearance of the headers is changed from the PLAF default to a plain replacement. This can be circumvented by pulling the cell renderer from the table's original header, and inserting it into the new header. At this point, the original PLAF appearance is preserved, but the rollover effects are absent.
    Can anyone suggest a modification that would restore the rollover effects, or more generally, a technique to make a JTableHeader span multiple columns while preserving all original elements of the PLAF?

    Lieve -
    Could you help me out?  I believe I'm trying to do something similar. I'm attemtping to create accordion navigation whereby:
    There are 5 bars running from top to bottom on the left side of the screen (numbered from 1-5).
    On the right side is the canvas.
    Pressing Bar #2 (a button) will cause the whole button (2) to slide to the extreme right and buttons 1,3,4, and 5 will be next to each other on the left.
    On the right side (the canvas) - will be content for page 2
    Pressing the #5 button will cause button 2 to move to the left with buttons 1,2, 3, and 4 - and #5 button will be on the extreme right. The canvas will show content for page 5.
    Hope this makes sense. Is this doable all within Cp 7?
    Many thanks!

  • CSS rollover effects

    Hello,
    So I've been playing with muse since the beginning basically. A feature that would be greatly appreciated by me and probably the whole community would be CSS rollover effects. I know that there's states and all that, but I feel like that just uhhh kind of dull in a way. They work but there's only so much you can do. I know you can kind of make something in edge animate but that can get complicated for those who are not familiar and frankly uncomfortably with code (like myself). So I'm wondering in the next update if the Muse team can Add some sort of preset of CSS rollover effects to Muse.
    For example you would be able to make a menu or a gallery, Then you could click the thing you wanted to add the effect to, then could select what style of effect you wanted. If that makes sense..I'm not the greatest at explaing things via type.
    http://thecodeplayer.com/walkthrough/simple-hover-effects-with-css3-filters  <----- That is just an example of photo/gallerly effects that would be sweet if Muse could implimnet. As of now i cant find a good site for text rollover effects.
    Cheers

  • Cool rollover effect

    I'm trying to achieve the same navigation rollover effect
    that is seen here:
    http://www.savageconstruction.com/
    I have gotten this far:

    that?

    If you want it like the site you refer to, you can't keep it
    within button itself
    because button resets as soon as you move your pointer off
    the Hot Spot (hit area)
    of the button.
    That's the nature of the button, beyond our control.
    You need to place the animation in movie clip and simply play
    it on roll over.
    You could place button inside of that movie clip to trigger
    it or you could use button
    handler directly on the movie clip so it will work as MC but
    behave like button.
    You could as well use some loop to assure smooth return of
    tween as soon as user moves
    off the button/movie clip.
    Let me explain on simple example.
    Make a movie clip and inside of that clip:
    frame 1 stop(); action to prevent it from running
    frame 2, animation of the text going up and the line growing.
    frame (example) 30 end of the animation
    NOTE ! this is only ONE way animation. No tweening it back to
    normal onrollout.
    Will explain in a moment why.
    Now, get out of the movie clip timeline, select the movie
    clip and hit CTRL F3 to open
    the properties panel. Give it instance name "button1".
    We will use button handler to control the clip and a enter
    frame loop to make the tween
    to run on roll over and reverse on roll out. Using that
    method instead of making animation
    in and out allow us to keep smooth tween in case if the user
    move off the button quickly
    before the animation completed. It will make it play reverse
    from the exact frame the user
    left it off.
    So, after you gave it instance name, on main timeline place
    the following action:
    button1.onEnterFrame = function() {
    (fade) ? button1.nextFrame() : button1.prevFrame();
    button1.onRollOver=function(){_root.fade = true;}
    button1.onRollOut=function(){_root.fade = false;}
    I do understand that it might sound easier to me knowing in
    my head how exactly I would
    go about it and not as easy to materialize, so I made up a
    simple example for you to
    check:

  • Image change on rollover effect

    How is this effect achieved with database driven data:
    1. Roll over any image for a larger view.
    2. Click to select photos
    can be viewed on this webpage:
    https://www.schooloutfitters.com/catalog/product_info/pfam_id/PFAM2691/products_id/PRO8702

    This should be doable using straight java script. The question I have is why not just create one html portlet that contains both images? The only issue with two is that if one isn't there then the JS on the other will complain. If you want an example of how we generate javascript to handle rollovers, create a navbar that has rollover images and then view the source on the resulting content area.

  • Image Gallery Rollover effect

    First Issue: I've dynamically created the image gallery, on
    rollover or mouseover i'm using the zoom in effect, on rollout i'm
    using the zoom out effect (that will return to the original size).
    onrollover
    zm = new Zoom(timg);
    zm.zoomHeightFrom = 1.2;
    zm.zoomWidthFrom = 1.2;
    zm.zoomHeightTo = 1;
    zm.zoomWidthTo = 1;
    zm.end();
    zm.play();
    It is working fine when the mouse is moved slowly (after
    playing the full zoom), if i move rapidly (if i rollout before the
    play effect finishes), the image's position will be changed. Please
    give me a solution for this.
    Second issue: I'm also trying to mask the image. all the
    thumbnails will be inside a canvas. How to mask the image with the
    sprite and use the zoom effect.
    Thanks in advance.

    use google to search for "flash tsunami tutorial".  specify your actionscript version if needed.

  • Rollover effects when creating interactive pdfs in CS4

    How does one create a color change, or highlight effect for a rollover for lines of type, when creating an interactive pdf in Indesign, CS4?
    I've tried EVERY which way, and it seems there is no way to change the color, or appearance of the color of lines of text…
    Any ideas?

    Stix is correct. Here's a more detailed description of what to do:
    Select your type frame. Open the Buttons panel (Window > Interactive > Buttons). Click the Normal appearance. That will create a button from your text frame.
    To add the rollover appearance, click on Rollover. Add whatever effect you'd like (drop shadow, bevel, or whatever). When you export from InDesign, be sure to check the options for Hyperlinks and Interactive Elements on the General panel of the Export PDF dialog.
