Rotated thumbnails don't stay rotated in full size

I recently upgraded to iphoto '11 and have been trying to go through photos and organize. If I look at thumbnails for an event, I can rotate the ones that need it using cmd+r and they appear as I wish, but if I view them full size or in a slideshow they are not rotated and are even distorted, as if resized. I rebuilt the library, thinking it was some corruption issue, but that didn't solve the problem. Any ideas?

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Rotate Buttons Don't Stay after closing adobe reader

I have several users on Terminal Servers 2008 using adobe reader 9.4. They need to rotate the images in reader, but when they add the rotate buttons to the tool bar, after they close reader and open a new document the buttons no longer  stay this feature worked in the adobe 8 versions.

No, my complaint is that the rotate buttons on the toolbar do not stay, I understand that the rotated image is just a view and would need acrobat to make a change like that.  I am just talking about the buttons in the toolbar.  In the previous versions of adobe reader if you customized the toolbar and added the rotate buttons, then closed and reopened reader the buttons would still be there, now you have to add the buttons manually each time you open adobe.  I have my users using the shortcut keys as a workaround for now, but it would be nice to have the buttons stay permanently.

  • Rotated pages won't stay rotated!

I received a 5 page .pdf file.  When scanned, pages 1, 3, & 5 were scanned in "upside down" while pages 2 & 4 are fine.  Inside the 5-page document, there appears to be no way to rotate only the offending pages.  So, I extracted them to separate files and rotated them to be correct. (I deleted the extracted pages in the original document.)  I even saved the extracted pages as separate documents AND saved each new document after rotating the pages.  However, when I try to put the document back together, the offending pages are STILL UPSIDE DOWN!
I have tried to click and drag the pages back into the original document and I have tried to create an entirely new document from the multiple files to no avail.  Surely there has to be a way to do this!

Rotate from Tools > Pages or the pages palette, this changes the file.
Don't use the View menu or icons, these just change the current view.

  • Book thumbnails show full size missing

Trying to help rebuild some books created in iphoto 6. The originals are backed up but she has over 20,000 all with just numbers. The book page thumbnails show the photos but the full size pages show only a gray box. How do I find out what the original photo number is so I can find the full size picture. When I click on the page full view of the book the photos that show give me the info on the photo but the gray boxes give the generic info of the book. If I could get the photo number from the thumbnail it could save me hours.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
By “original photo number” do you mean the file name assigned by the camera - something like IMG_1234.jpg?
Click on the 'i' box lower left and this will open the Info pane which will tell you the filename of the pictures.
However, how did the book lose these pictures? If this is because of database corruption you won't be able to rebuild the book in the same library.

  • How do I fix rotate issue with thumbnail and full size?

When I look at photos in the thumbnail view the rotation is wrong. When I click and view the photo in full screen mode, the picture auto rotates. This is frustrating and I can't figure out how to fix the problem. I've taken a Youtube screen video to showcase the problem. Any suggestions appreciated!

    Using iphoto 11 9.2.1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails.
    If that doesn't help:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Upon opening a thumbnail to view full size image, it often spontaneously zooms to only display bottom left quarter of image.

When double-clicking on the thumbnail image of an iPhoto album, the full size image will often spontaneously zoom to only display the bottom left quarter of the entire photo when it displays in full size. I can easily work around this by clicking on the right arrow to go to the next full size image (which will display properly) and then click on the left arrow to go back to the initial affected image (which will also then display properly). It does not do this when full-sizing all images from their thumbnails - probably less than 10% of the time; but still often enough to be a pian. I cannot find anything in the preferences which would appear to cause or correct it.
It is a recent problem. I have been using iPhoto extensively for many years without any problems. I cannot recall for sure, but it may have started after my update to version 9.4.2.
Using an iMac with plenty of RAM, latest version of iPhoto 11 and Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.

What is the format of the PS photos and are there any alpha channels in them? You might try to re-edit them with PS, making some insignificant change and then saving.  See if the new edit will display properly.  Are you saving as jpgs with the Baseline format?
I may be preaching to the choir here but this may be of interest:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Some "events" on "all events" stay black. Photos in them can not be opened in full size, why?

Some of my "events" on "all events" stay black. When i'am with the cursor over these "events" the pictures in it are shown. Why do these events stay black and why can't i open the pictures in it in full size? When i zoom them up they become a black triangle and the diashow shows only these black triangles.
Has anyone an idea how I can make those events and the photos in it to be seen and open in full sizes?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • Missing full size photos - thumbnails only

iPhoto '11. I notice I am missing the full size images of photos - I can not open them to edit. However, the thumbnails do appear below. This is not the case with all albums, just some. What's up with this?

A general answer is to backup your iphoto library, depress and hold the option and command keys, launchi iPhoto and rebuild yoru database
What do you see when you try to edit? Have you used a cleanup program to clean up your Mac (HINT - don't - they are net needed and often cause problems)? Have you deleted any photos any other way like from the all images list?

  • Generating full-size image from thumbnail using BLOB DB images

    Hi all,
Assuming that all necessary steps were taken in other posts and tutorials to display images on a web page from BLOB objects stored in an Oracle 10g DB, how is it possible to set the size of the created images (from the servlet that creates the image file from BLOB) so that it is smaller than the actual image in the DB. the user would then have to click the image to open the full image.
would this be done by possibly creating 2 servlets, one that displays a smaller version, and one that displays the actual image?
i don't see how this can be done since the url property of each image is bound to the url of the servlet. If the thumbnail has a url pointing to image produced by thumbnail servlet, would i assign an action handler for clicking the image that redirects to a url given by the full size image servlet? or should i use an image hyperlink instead?
    any help is always appreciated!

Suggest you take this one step at a time.
    1. Create a database and store your images in it. (Or write the upload mechanism if you need it).
    2. Display your full size images.
    3. Display your full size images as thumbnail size. (Performance will not be good but you'll have results.) Creator allows you to set image size independantly of the size of the underlying image.
    4. Modify the servlet you wrote in step three to optionally reduce the resolution (or quality) based on an input parameter.

  • Lost some Thumbnails and some Full Size

I've noticed after installing V6 that some of my thumbnails are missing. Worst yet that a lot of the full size pitures are not showing in the edit screen. They are however showing as thumbnails.
I've also noticed that the folder names used for storing have been are using a new naming function. In my Originals folder I have a mix of folder by what I'm assuming are dates and the others by rolls.
It never created a folder for 2006. Yet I can view 2006 pictures.
    What a mess!

    muchannoyed:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
I don't remember if I quit out or forced iphoto shut (which I sometimes do when I want to close apps fast).
If you forced quit while iPhoto was writing data to the database files then that's why you're library is corrupted. Probably one of the worse things you could have done.
However, you files should be still on the HD. The iPhoto database is damaged and can't find the files. Look in your iPhoto Library/Originals folder for the folder representing the roll with the missing photo's. See if they are in there (they should be).
I suggest you do the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
iPLM does not change or modify the existing library but copies the files and data it needs from the old library. I think it's you're best chance of recovering your library and keep the keywords, albums, etc. intact.
You can always move the Originals folder to the desktop, delete the iPhoto Library folder, create a new library and import the Originals folder and it's contents. You'll have your rolls back (although the dates will be different this time) but that's all. If your really need to recover your keywords then check out Tutorial #1 before starting the new library method.
And in the future, don't optionally force quit out of iPhoto.
    Do you Twango?

  • Thumbnails Don't show up

Ok folks, this has absolutley stumped me. I have 2 sites where I need  them to share the same images and thumbnails. I set up on the server  (linux/apache) all the pemissions and I'm actually aliasing all the directories.  The thumbnails however refuse to appear on one of the site. All other images appear just fine.
Example: everything is ok on this site:
    http://www.annapolismoves.com/featured.php
However, Thumbnail don't appear on this site:
    http://www.dayweitzman.com/featured.php
All the thumnail are of course dynamic with ADDT so are the full size images that are not a problem under either domain, example:
    http://www.annapolismoves.com/listing.php?propertyid=129
    http://www.dayweitzman.com/listing.php?propertyid=129
If you can she any light on this. I'd really appreciate it

You’re database is damaged (by a crash, perhaps?) and the damage is such that it cannot be recovered with Library Manager.
Your only option now is to create and populate a new Library:
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How to get rid of thumbnails who've lost their full size photos?

How do I get rid of thumbnails who've lost their full size photos?? ... ie when I spacebar on them I get the exclamation mark ;-(
I've tried rebuilding the library with all options checked; with all except the last 2; and just the first 2 on thumbnails; and the 2nd only. All to no avail!
I expect iPhoto Library Manager would do the trick but don't want to redo my faces stuff which I believe it can't cope with yet ;-()
Long story how I got here but I've re-added recovered full size files that iPhoto '08 "lost" and now in '09 I want to get rid of the thumbnails that point to the missing files.
I now have 2 thumbnails of most pictures - one that works to the full size and the other that gets an exclamation mark! ... I want to get rid of the latter.
I can obviously just press delete on the thumbnail but I need to do it ~ 20,000 times ;-()
A thought ...can I use search somehow to only return the duds?? ... then delete all.
    TIA
    Barry

You may have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
This will get rid of all the orphan thumbnails and give you a clean library. Before doing that you could follow the first 8 steps of Old Toad's Tutorial #1 which will write the keywords, titles and comments to the original files so they will be there in the new library.
