Round Corners on object in Live Paint Group

Hello,
When I apply the Round Corners effect onto any one object in a Live Paint Group, it is applied onto the Group itself, thereby onto all objects in it instead of just the one I selected. Is there a way to apply the effect just onto the one object?
Thanks in advance!

That allows me to apply Round Corners to the object I want, but I lose the advantages of the Live Paint Group (most importantly being able to move my original shapes around and have the resulting paintable areas update to my changes).
Another option I see is to apply Round Corners to the object and expand it before adding it to the Live Paint Group, but of course then I lose the ability to edit the effect.
I guess I'll have to go with one of those.

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
This sound like a firewall issue. I would start by disabling the firewall and seeing if you can connect. If this works then you know where the problem is,

  • Illustrator crashes when moving objects in live paint group

    A little help here...
Illustrator CC keeps crashing whenever I try to move a path or an object in a live paint group. I've tried it on other computers, but they seem to work fine. It seemed to only affect my laptop, so I'm not sure what happened. Restarting and updating it doesn't seem to solve the problem.
Here are the technical specifications for my Macbook Pro:
    Mid-2009 Macbook Pro 15"
2.8 GHz model w/ SD card slot
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    Has Mavericks
    4 GB of RAM
Please help!!! My project is due the next week!
    Thanks,
    Michelle

I think I know the solution to the problem (for me anyway)!
I have been plagued by this CC problem for months with Illustrator, In Design and Photoshop. I even bought a new machine because of the stress it caused me, and not to mention the lost work hours!!!! But since buying the new machine and having it happen again, and again and again, I have ruled out all font, software, plugin conflicts - because there is nothing on my machine that was on the old one. All of my old files are on an external hard drive and I have had Illustrator CC crash several times with the hard drive ejected.  This is what leads me to think (in my case at least) that the machine/files/plugins are not the problem. Here's what has worked for me, and where I think my problem stems from:
CC membership allows you to run the Adobe applications on 2 machines, in most people's cases that's home and office. I have two machines; one for work with one set of preferences that my CC account was made with, and another machine at home that is shared and has an entirely different set of preferences.
When an Illustrator file is left open on my work machine (the machine that the CC account was created on) with a long period of inactivity (e.g. over a weekend) Illustrator CC on my home machine crashes constantly (as soon as I try to move an object it crashes). As soon as Illustrator CC is closed down on my work machine, Illustrator CC on my home machine is then fine! And then both machines will the run Illustrator CC again simultaneously until the work machine is left for another long period of inactivity (a couple of days). Then, when it is, my home machine crashes again.
I also noticed that each time Illustrator CC asked me to send a crash report from my home machine to Adobe it would pull the email from the preferences on my home machine, not the email that the CC account was made with (which is the email on my work machine). It could be that leaving Illustrator CC/any of the CC apps open and inactive for a couple of days causes some kind of 'time out' period on the account.
This could explain why Illustrator CC would work again on my home machine (briefly) when trashing the account preferences.
So to re-cap I have solved my seemingly inexplicable problem by making sure that Illustrator CC is not left open for long periods of inactivity (2 days seems to be the threshold) on one machine, if the account is being shared across two machines.
Please let me know if this A. makes sense and B. helps anyone.

  • How to feather lines of live paint group to achieve custom shadows?

    Hi all,
So I'm pretty sure you can't actually feather lines in a live paint group, but I don't know how else to do this. I have a picture all colored in with live paint group and stuff, and I want to add shadows to certain shops, much like the apple has shadows on it in this tutorial from adobe (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/illustrator/cs/using/WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d0100196cbc5f-61d8a .html). I tried making a live paint group on a new layer and then feathering it, but that feathers everything, I only want one edge feathered.
Sorry if I'm not being super clear, it's a lot like the black shadowing on that apple.
    Thanks

Yopu would have to expand the relevant parts so you get separate objects for further treatment....

  • How do I convert coloring book page to live paint group?

Have coloring book and clip art image. How do I color them?

Here are the steps you can use.
Step 1: Create a new Illustrator document and insert the scan / photo of the image.
    File > New
File > Place, navigate to the image, select it, click Place
Click and drag on the page to insert the image.
Step 2: Turn the pixel based image into Illustrator vector art
With the Selection tool, click on the Image to the select it.
Display the Image Trace panel (Window > Image Trace).
From the Preset menu choose an option that closest resembles your image trace requirement, and select Preview and click Trace.
Check the results, and make adjustments to the settings as required.
Once you're happy with the result, in the Control panel, click Expand. Note that once you expand the Image Trace you will no longer be able to adjust the trace settings, and you've created Illustrator vector art.
Step 3: Change the artwork to a Live Paint group and start colouring.
Select the vector art, and choose Object > Live Paint > Make.
You can now use the Live Paint Bucket and Live Paint Selection Tool to colour your artwork.

  • Why won't AI let me drag the selection icon into a Live Paint group?

I routinely add paths to existing Live Paint Groups, by dragging a path that is outside the group, into the LP group. But AI won't let me drag the "selection icon" from a nested layer, into an existing LP Group. Why?
It seems I'm requesting the same action, but AI won't allow the icon to be dragged into the group. I have to either open the layer and drag the objects directly, or drag the objects into the main layer, then into the Live Paint Group. I think this is an interface flaw. Does anyone follow me and have an observation?
FYI… I realize I could jump into the Live Paint Group using Isolation mode, but that takes extra steps and makes the template less useful.

Live Paint groups can't contain sublayers. When attempting to drag a layer/sub-layer into a Live Paint group you are attempting to add a sub-layer, which Live Paint does not support.
You can drag individual objects into the Live Paint group because they are objects, not layers.
The "Layers" panel is somewhat of a misnomer, it's actually a "Layers and Objects" panel and each will have it's own restrictions.

  • CS3 Can't select or fill area in live paint group

Hi, I have Illustrator CS3 on Windows Vista Home Premium. I made a live paint group and colored in the various areas. I was doing more work and noticed that some areas lost their color. I can't select them now as a live group to color.
The outlines can be selected, but not the fills. Also there are a few places where the fill spills out to adjacent area. The gap detection doesn't seem to do anything. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I also just downloaded the newest driver for my wacom intuos 2 and it is doing some odd things. Could that have anything to do with it?
    Thanks for the help. :)

I'm away from my Photoshop system right now, so I'm sorry for any inaccuracy, but if you select the eye dropper tool in the Tools panel, then look near the top of the Photoshop main window in the options area, do you see a "Sample" selector?  Alternate settings of this selector will probably get you the behavior you want.

  • Illustrator CS6 - Live Paint Groups

How do I fill a face in a Live Paint Group with a pattern on a colored background?

I've already tried that and I can't make it work.  I can drag the swatch onto the artboard and apply a gray fill, no problem.  But when I drag or Alt-drag it back into the swatches panel the gray background is not preserved in the new or replacement swatch.
Double-clicking the pattern swatch and trying to edit it that way by adding a second fill via the appearance window doesn't work either.
Question: why, when I drag a pattern swatch onto the artboard, does the fill and stroke in the tools panel show no fill and a question mark respectively; whereas double-clicking the swatch shows the pattern as the fill and the stroke color as black?

THAT did it!! expanding is the trick. thanks i gotta expand everything to get it right ..:)

  • Width Tool in Live Paint Group

This has been mentioned before, but I'd like to stress it again: Please integrate variable stroke widths in Live Paint groups. No other missing feature would help me more for working on comics. I was very much hoping this would be added in CS6. CS6.5, maybe?
    Thank you.

posted 2 years ago and here I am. I found this post looking for the same thing. I can't understand why this are the parameters for using the live paint. It's silly, honestly.

  • Live Paint Group Help!

It would be referred to as a pluginItem.

  • Extrude, live paint group and transparency

    Hi,
I have a problem for which I have two solutions but I need a combination of them. I want a transparent polygon with a tube inside. I tired it with extruding both shapes, then I have control over transparency but stacking of the polygon and tube fails.
If I create a live paint group of them, then stacking is ok upon extruding but live paint is limited by setting transparency selectively.
I was not able to find a solution and would appreciate any kind of help.
    Thank you

It makes life easier if you have more complex figures, I simplified my problem with the above images. But I can live without live paint group.

  • How do i apply one gradient across multiple live paint objects??

I need to apply a single gradient acros a number of live paint objects but am finding it annoyingly hard to find a way.  I know that normally, to apply a gradient across multiple objects, you would need to make them all into one compound path but does this apply to live paint groups in any way??  Can what i need to achieve actually be done??
    Thanks for any help given

    1. With the Live Paint selection tool, shift-select those shapes you want to unify with a gradient.
    2. Fill this (multi-shape) selection with your gradient. Now each shape is filled separately.
    3. With the gradient tool, drag across all of the selected shapes.
"Annoyingly hard." Is that different than "hard"?

  • Reclaiming a stroke after making it part of a live paint object

The "s" in the screenshot below was a path filled with black.  I had the lineart done by and artist and then I go in and fill the color, so I'm 99.9% this description is correct.  I filled it using livepaint.  It's now a livepaint object...  I need to go in and correct my blacks (to rich black, this is a CMYK doc -- I have another thread about that, LOL).  Now, when I select the path that contains the black, if I try to change it's fill to the proper black, it fills the entire object with that color.  I just need to change the area within the yellow path you see below and NOT the light blue area...  It seems that once it converted to livepaint, I lost the ability to change the fill within the yellow path (which is just the outline of a stroke of black, for lack of a better description.  It looks like a stroke, but it's a fill or WAS a fill before it became a livepaint object.  Anyone know how I can change just the black part?  Thanks.

Fill it with the live paint bucket selecting the rich black swatch first.
If it is pat of a live paint group that is what the paint bucket is for otherwise with the selection tool, the black arrow double click on it to enter isolation mode and now fill it or select as you have and from the layers panel drop down select isolation mode and now fill it.
Or select it and only it and go to Edit>Edit Colors>Recolor Art and select the new color area and add a new color and select the rich black swatch.

  • Live Paint doesn't work on Complicated Objects?

I have never really figured out how to properly build an illustrator file in a way that it will fill properly so my only other option (that I know of) is to use Live Paint.  Unfortinately Live paint also wrecks all my line weights.  It also makes the object noneditable later down the road.  I found this out the hard way for a logo project at college and spent over 30 hours on it just trying to fiddle with the illustrator program, looking up tutorials that never seemed to work for me and nonstop frustration.
This time Live paint doesn't work at all. (I'm trying to paint in a more complicated object than a simple logo).  First off my object has gaps in it, and even when I click "Gap options" it doesn't appear to do anything and there are still gaps.  So I try to fill them in myself but this wrecks my line weights.  And finally Live paint appears to work but only on certain objects such as the eyes, the nose, annd the ears, yet it refuses to fill in the entire body of the animal I'm trying to colour in.  I drew this animal in illustrator with the pen tool and applied line weights with the line weight tool.  Yes there are numerous gaps in the image.
I have another project due really soon on a more complicated illustrator file and I can't even figure out how to colour it in properly!  Please help!  This is what it looks like as of now:
    http://aprilsilverwolf.deviantart.com/art/Dhole-Lineart-414792208
Only imagine it not in a pdf but an illustrator file because yes I have the original and yes it's vector.
Also I use Adobe illustrator CS6

I looked at your drawing and have a few suggestions:
As you have no doubt learned, Live Paint strokes cannot contain stroke profiles or other effects at the individual stroke level. There are 2 solutions:
    1. Set the stroke on the Live Paint object to a very small width, then add a stroke attribute to the LP object using the Appearance Panel. There, you can assign a global stroke that will effect any paths on the LP object that have any stroke applied.
    2. Assign no strokes to the LP Object. Instead, duplicate the LP object, release Live Paint and assign stroke attributes to the duplicated lines. I have found this provides better control of stroke attributes, making them independent of the Live Paint Object.
I agree, the "Gap Options" feature does not always work well. That's another reason I prefer to handle the lines and fills separately, so I can manually fill any gaps by extending the lines using the pencil or pen tool.
