Hello, I have a very expensive windows program that I really need to use. They don't make it for macs. What is the cheapest way I can run a windows program on my mac?

Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.

Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.

You have several options.
1, Use a Virtual Machine like Vmware, Parallels etc... to Create a Virtual Windows Installation and Run your program in there. A Virtual MAchine will runn in a Window on your Desktop and share your Mac's resources RAM HD space processor. Your MAc desktop will still be available while you run Windows install.

2. Install Windows on a partition using Bootcamp. It will run a full installation of Windows you can boot into, and run your programs. The Mac desktop will not available until your reboot the computer and start in OSx instead of Windows.

ACL Errors, Can't Running Any Windows Program (such : CMD, Notepad, TaskMgr, etc)

Hello guys, Please help me.
Today I got weird Problem, My Windows 7 Ultimate eventually can't execute any Windows Programs, such : Msiexec, Cmd, Notepad, Taskmgr, Msconfig, Regedit, etc.
When I tried to run any Windows Programs, the Message Box Appeared with this message : Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
Then I checked my System32 Directory, I was shocked because All of Windows Defaults Programs appeared with Locked Icon.
Then I checked 1 by 1 Windows Program, for an Example : dcdiag.exe. I checked the Security Tab and I got this notifications : No Permissions have been assigned for this object.
Warning : This a potential security risk because anyone who can access this object can take ownership on it. The object's owner should assign permissions as soon as possibe.
Other Informations :
1. My Windows account Privilege is Administrator.
2. I've Actived Anti-Virus and Always Updated.
3. In Safe Mode Everything Was Fine, I Can run Notepad, Task Manager, Command Prompt, etc (except : Msiexec / .msi Installer).
4. I tried System Restore in Safe Mode, but I don't have any Restore Points. In Normal Mode, I can't execute System Restore.
So, How can I solve this Problem?

According to your description, it seems like a program which start with Windows blocked the access of these app.
To open Msconfig, you can boot into Safe Mode firstly, then open Msconfig and following clean boot process to execute the operation.

you can use the "host" command or, more windows spcific "dde.app-beginn" from the built in package.

I have a Macbook Air. I host a bowling tournament every year but the software I use doens't have a MAC version. I'm told I can download some software that lets me use a Windows program on my Mac.

Thanks for all your help and all that stuff. What I've been trying to do is run a couple .exe files that are (obviously) designed to work on windows. I have tried wine and playonmac with no success- do you guys have any free ideas? Also, winebottler does not support running a single exe file. Plz help me out here, because i really could use this for work purposes! Also, here are my computer specs: Mac air 13in 128gb hdd 8gb ram i7 proccessor.

What software are you trying to run? That's the key question. "Free" Windows emulators like WINE and all the programs built on top of them (including proprietary ones like Crossover) usually provide an emulated WinXP environment as the most up to date environment they support. And usually Windows95 as the oldest one they support, if I remember correctly. Anything outside of those limits, or requiring specialty drivers not available in the OS installation, often cannot be made to work (or at least made to work properly).
Therefore, if the program you want to run requires an environment any newer than WinXP, you are going to be SOL for a free solution. You can still get a free virtual machine program (a la VirtualBox) but you will need to pay for a Windows license.

How can I get LabVIEW 7.1 to spawn/run another windows program that normally runs standalone?

I have numerous sensor devices, pressure, temperature, particle size, mass air flow, etc all contained in a process used for testing various filters in a lab environment. Most of the hardware came with drivers and programs where the user can run the stand-alone program and communicate, serially, with the devices, set parameters, receive data and graph same. However, my customer wishes to have LabVIEW control all of the programs. Is there a way to have LabVIEW spawn another executable?

What is the most reliable way to run one Windows accounting program in Osx 10.5.8?

I have a simple Windows application where I basically do my accounts. I do not want to tie up my Imacs resources with running a full Windows Os "emulation" like Paralells or VMware Fusion just to run a simple accounting program.
I have heard about apps that can run one windows application at the time through a kind of Osx Application which emulates windows some how. Is is true that this is a better way of running my accounting program? Is it reliable? What I do is to punch in invoices and print out reports basically. How much resources does this "consume" to run it in "one simple application mode" in comparison with for example Paralells?
And what is the term for running windows in "one simple application mode"?

I guess you could try the free trial of CrossOver. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/ You did not say what app you want to run so it is difficult for us to recommend crossover as being able to run the app.
But your question is that you are looking for the "most reliable" way to run a Windows program. In my opinion you need Parallels or Fusion. These run the real Windows OS so my thinking is it is the "most reliable" method of running a Windows app on an Apple computer, other than Boot Camp.
But you said you don't want Parallels. This is probably why you have not received any responses. You eliminated the most reliable and easiest method, in my opinion, when you initially posted. Parallels does not consume any resources until you start it up to use your app. You can close it after you are done with your app. Of course hard drive space is required for storing the OS, your app, and data. But you still need to store your app and data regardless of method you choose.
One more thing, Parallels and Fusion create a virtual machine for running Windows.
So my recommendation, use Parallels or Fusion.

Why ask here instead of the ones for Macbook series, or for Windows on Mac, aka Boot Camp.
VirtualBos is just the VM free for running Windows as guest OS under Mac OS, and then why exclude what or type program? Maybe game that needs to run natively, or that your notebook would have troubke with disk spa e, RAM, or your processor.
Windows runs hotter, too, so that is another concern.

I want to run several windows programs on my macbook. One is called Swordsearcher, a Bible program, and the second is Money Matters, a budgeting program. I've heard of x11 and x86, but I don't understand how they work. If I could run those Windows programs on the MacBook I would be PC-free! Yayy!

I use Parallels on my iMac for my PC based programs, or for my PC dominated computer science classes It works really well. You can set up shared folders between the Windows that you install and the Mac. Also, you're not limited to just Windows. You can set up multiple virtual machines with different OS's if you want. Linux, FreeBSD etc etc. I've never messed with those though, so I don't know how well that works.
One thing I noticed that I'm not exactly thrilled about is that if I have the CD/DVD-rom drive enabled on my XP virtual machine, and I slide in a disc, it will be recognized by XP only but will not mount/load on the Mac. So I've had to disable the CD-Rom on the XP virtual machine to get my Mac to recognize discs.
Aside from that, it's one of the best $80 I've ever spent.

So I am trying to network another computer, using the IP address so i can access it anywhere, I have already figured out how to do it on the same address though. When I try to do the ip address i get afp://, cifs://, ftp://, ftps://, http://, https://, nfs://, smb:// or vnc://. things, What do they all do? Also It is a windows network I am trying to connect to and also run a windows program on it but it wont work. I got the New system update on my computer if that makes a difference.

Running a virtual machine requires either Parallels or VM Ware Fusion. The advantage of virtual machines is can run OS X and Windows simultaneously, this is a huge time savings over Boot Camp. With Boot Camp you boot the computer to either MS Windows or OS X you can't operate them at the same time. The are some advantages to Boot Camp though, first is it's free, whereas Parallels and Fusion sell for about $79 but if you shop you can find them for less. Both do the same thing so which one you get doesn't really matter that much. Also if you run 3D graphics intensive applications such as CAD/CAM, 3D renderings, or you live your life to play 3D games on your computer then Boot Camp will have better performance. If you don't fall into the 3D camp then virtualizaion by far is the way to go. Personally when I first got my Mac 4 1/2 years ago I loaded Fusion and Win XP, I found the performance excellent. However as I've totally migrated to OS X I rarely use Windows but it still resides on my system.
Remember when you load Windows on your Mac (either virtualizaiton or Boot Camp) it is vulnerable to all the malware and instability any Windows box is so take proper precaution and use antivirus software for Windows and any other anti alarmed software you feel is needed. The good news is even if the Window side becomes totally diseased this in NO WAY affects OS X which is sound, stable and virus free.

Windows programs on a PowerPC Machine

Hello, everybody, I have an upgraded Power Mac G4 sawtooth which has seen it's years of use, and never gave up and never will. Although I have intel macs that can do this job, I was wondering if there was a was I can possibly run windows programs right on the desktop's screen seamlessly as if it was running natively. If I remember correctly, Microsoft Virtual PC 6 and 7 for Mac could do this, but it's ancientware, and I can't find anything for it. My G4 sawtooth is more than enough to handle emulation and virtualization, I have done it before using Q, but I, for some reason can't run the windows programs on the desktop as if it was seamlessly running with the system. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Can you use VMware Fusion to run a windows 7 VM on an external hard drive

I have the latest version of Mountain Lion running on a MacBook Air 11' with 4GB or Ram and an SSD of 128GB. I have purchased the latest version of VMWare's Fusion Product.
Since it takes up so much room to run on the SSD drive, I was wondering if it was possible to install a Windows 7 instance (I have the ultimate version with ISO already sitting on the Msc and External Drive) and access it from the Mac to run my windows programs.
So in short:
MacBook 11" Latest Version of Mountain Lion Latest version of Fusion
Want to run Windows 7 VM on an external hard drive rather than installing it on my internal drive.
Can this be done? If so, how?

My external drive is FAT 32 and my MacBook recognizes it, however Fusion does not. So if I buy a brand new external hard drive, format from scratch FAT 32, use Fusion to create that VM, I should be able to install Win 7 on the external drive and use it via Fusion?
Sorry if I am dense, just trying to make sure I understand. :-)

I was wondering how can i do windows programming in Java? things that are very specific to windows OS, like changing the desktop wallpaper, running different windows programs, shutting down windows and other stuff like that.
where do i start with this? where do i get that windows api?

This is a very dark and horrible road to travel down. You start having to learn about UnsatisfiedLinkError, all the vagaries of java.library.path, and the horrible nature of the windows API. ^_^
Do stuff like this through C++, that's what the Windows API expects. Java was designed to be platform-quasi-independent, so it provides little if any ability to interact with the underlying platform outside the very basic filesystem operations.
If you're dead set on this, read up on the Java Native Interface, and remember your try { } catch (unsigned int) { } blocks in your C++ code. Taking down your entire VM with an unhandled exception is one of C++'s nastier tricks. ~.^
