Running Office for Mac while in Windows through Boot Camp

Hi,
I have a macbook but am trying to run a windows program for school that also requires the use of excel. I have office for mac installed but when I go to the windows os to get the program to work my excel isn't there so it will not work. Do I need to buy VMware fusion or is there another way to solve this problem?
Thanks so much

Try using VirtualBox.

I'm trying to install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. Halfway through the installation, the MacBook Air tells me that I must close Safari for the installation to continue. As far as I can tell, Safari IS closed. I can't discover any process that will close it any more than it is now. Installer won't let me shut down or re-start the computer because it (Installer) is still running.
    What am I missing?

The MS installer seems to think Safari is active so try the following...
Right-click on the Safari icon in the Dock and if applicable, select Quit.
    or
Try Utilities > Activity Monitor and look for Safari in the Process Name column.  If present, highlight Safari and then click the Quit Process icon.

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

  • Office for Mac? or Windows?

My question is this...if I use Office for Mac and save the document on my MAC OS, am I able to retrieve that word document through Windows? Or, will I just have to buy Office for Windows? I am using online courses and some schools do not support the MAC OS, so I will have to use Windows, but I don't have Office for Windows. Just wondering...Thanks!

    Yes.

  • How do you use a dmg file image to download windows through boot camp?

after reaching my limits in finding the answer to this problem/question i have, i finally decided to post it for everyone to feel my pain
so i dont know if i would be spanked or something but i downloaded a windows xp sp3 from the internet through torrent
it was originally an iso file so i changed it to a dmg by using disk utility
    now heres the problem:
after that, i opened the dmg file image and mounted the virtual drive
then when i started up the boot camp installation and clicked the "Start Installation" after about fifteen seconds it said that it couldn't find any disk installers!
    AARRGG
it would be awesome if someone could help me
and this other question that i did not mention above is:
when you run windows xp on Parallels, is it slower than when you use windows on a PC or through boot camp?
thanks and hope you have a nice day

I don't spank you for that but I also don't comment on it as maybe this post will be deleted soon !

The BootCamp Assistant requires Windows to be on a bootable CD/DVD and will not work with any kind of images, iso or dmg.
when you run windows xp on Parallels, is it slower than when you use windows on a PC or through boot camp?
Yes, since it is not running 'natively' , using the real hardware, but it is running on a virtualized environment.
How much slower really depends on the kind of programs you use in Windows, with typical Business/Office programs you might not even notice any slower performance, but with programs that depend on having access to the 'real' hardware, you will notice the slowness often right down to be un-useable.
thanks and hope you have a nice day

  • How should i allocate the right RAM and disk space to windows through boot camp or parallels ?

i am trying to understand how you need to set things up when trying to run windows from a mac ( using bootcamp / parallels ). i want to understand the implications around RAM.
i have a mac with 1terra SSD and 16 GB of RAM, and if i want to install windows i need to partition and allocate memory and disk space for windows.
now i would be running on windows :
    cad 2015
    revit / rhino
photoshop and some other graphic softwares
    so my questions are:
how do i decide how much space should be allocated to windows and once i decide that, can i change it later ?
how do i decide what RAM should be allocated to windows. and can i also change that in the future ?
now lets say i allocated 8 GB of RAM for winddows using bootcamp, does that mean that every time i log into my mac through OS, it will only be using 8GB of the total RAM ?
here's my last question : i have my parallels software yet to be installed, just as the windows 8 software. now should i use bootcamp to install windows ? could i install windows using parallels ? if yes which is better to use ?

    1. Windows needs 60GB for good performance, add the needs of the apps you intend to use and I would say no less than 100GB. (it can be changed later but it is not an easy task unless you pay for Camp Tune)
    2. You do not allocate Ram to Windows in Boot Camp. Windows will use all of it (64bit Windows) or 4GB (32bit Windows)
    3. See 2
    4. Use Boot Camp, Parallels will not allow Windows to run at full speed.
    General Notes:
    1. Make a complete backup of your Mac before you start! (do not skip this)
    2. Read the Boot Camp directions, then read them again.

  • Leopard with windows through boot camp

I downloaded windows xp through boot camp today. The installation instructions say I also need to download leopard to the windows side. Do I really need to install mac ox s leopard to the windows side of my mac? And what does leopard do? Will I bee fine without downloading it?

    Need clarification.
BootCamp makes a partition on the hard drive which can then accomodate a Windows installation. You have to have a genuine retail XP installation disk in order to install after using BootCamp to make the partition. The Leopard disk has the Apple drivers necessary for Windows to function on Apple hardware properly and is installed when booted from Windows.

  • Word for Mac and Boot Camp, can I run Word for Mac while running Windows?

    Hi There :
I just installed windows xp on my mac book pro. I have Word for Mac already installed. Is there any way by which I can use this Word software while I am running Windows.
    Thanks a lot

You'd need to install a virtualization product, such as VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop for Mac. This way, you'd be running Windows alongside Mac OS X. I use VMware Fusion and recommend it. For resource-intensive applications, I boot natively into Windows, but I generally use the virtual machine for convenience sake.

  • Why can't I start Mac after installing Windows using boot camp???

I'm new to Mac.... Have installed Windows 7 through Bootcamp... Well, I tried to at least!!  I can now only get into Windows every time I start the mac up.... What have I done wrong - and how do I fix it!?!

Thanks Vinmar.... I can't see anything down on the bottom fit of my screen, apart from the time, date, connectivity, speaker volume etc. am I looking in the wrong place??
The restart in Mac OS X icon (a grey diamond) will only appear after you've installed the Boot Camp drivers. If you installed the drivers, try clicking on the sideways triangle to show any hidden system tray icons.  You can also use the boot camp control panel to restart in Mac OS X.
For how many partitions you have, you should be able to see those in the Disk Utility application in Mac OS X or the Disk Management app in Windows.  Be careful not to delete any of them.  If you want to remove a partition, I'd use the Boot Camp Utility to do that.  Nore as well that OS X 10.7 and above add a hidden recovery partition to your drive that you won't see in Disk Utility but will see in the Windows app.
    Hope this helps.

  • Not seeing an external HD in windows through boot camp ...

Last week I ran boot camp with a (200GB) external hard drive and was able to see the hard drive in both windows and mac. This week I had the HD enclosure fail, put the HD in a new case, reformatted it as Mac OS X (Journaled) and was back in business ... on the Mac side.
Windows no longer sees the external as part of 'My Computer' - even though it shows in the device manager and says it is 'working properly'. Not remembering how I formatted the first time around when everything was working together, should it be viewable as a Mac Journaled drive? Does everything have to be FAT ... drive and windows?
Just looking for some confirmation on whether to reinstall boot camp, or transfer the drive contents and reformat that ... either one is going to take a long time ... and perhaps I just need to do both.
I know the boot camp information stated Mac would not be able to read or write to the windows side as NTFS ... and I'm ok with that - I just want the hard drive to work with both sides.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
Windows can not see or use harddisk or partitions on harddisks that use the Mac OSX Extended (journaled) file system.
It's a limitation of Windows and has nothing to do with BootCamp.
Windows can see/use its own file system (FAT32 and NTFS).
Mac OSX can read/write from/to FAT32 partitions, but can only read from NTFS partitions.
So FAT32 would be your first choice for file system to access the external HD from both OSX and Windows.
    However FAT32 has a built-in single-file size limitation of 4GB.
Depending on your useage of the external HD there are several solutions:
    1. leave it as Mac OSX Extended and get MacDrive for read/write access from Windows.
    2. use FAT32 (called MS-DOS in OSX Disk Utility) as file system, if you can live with the file-size limitation
    3. use NTFS as file system and get Paragons NTFS for OSX for read and write access from OSX
    4. partition the external HD with two partitions, one for OSX and one for Windows

I am using the full size wired keyboard with my iMac. While I am in WIndows XP Pro on Boot Camp, I can not use the number keys on the right side. Is there any way I can make these work? It might be picky, but is sure annoying the crap out of me. Any thoughts?
