Running OneDrive for business as a windows service

Hello,
I have a requirement where we have some files (backup files with some app data) that should be synced from a Windows Server 2012 VM  to a shared folder on OneDrive for business and then the reversed on some other Windows Server 2012 VMs that use the
files for testing.
How can I run the OneDrive for business sync agent as a windows service? i.e. I can't have someone logged in to make the sync work.
Thanks,
Matt

This tutorial shows how to
run OneDrive for Business as a Windows Service. OneDrive will start when the PC boots and remain running in the background, even if no one logs on.

Can anyone refer any link or resource location to automate OneDrive for Business with SharePoint Online. I need to fetch the libraries already added to "OneDrive for Business", also allow from a custom screen to add new library or delete an existing

Would appreciate any hint how I can create a desktop application for Windows 7 which will provide all functionality for OneDrive and add more (which is not in OneDrive tool - eg, check in menu, checkout menu, version menu etc.

  • Help! Windows Explorer crashes regularly when using "SharePoint" directory synced with OneDrive for Business

We are using SharePoint 2013 and I want to sync document libraries with
OneDrive for Business with my PC running Windows 7.
In general, it works, but my Windows Explorer crashes very often (after a few minutes) when I navigate in the synced directories and open files there (or copy files into them in Windows Explorer).
How can I find out what happens and how to avoid it?
    remark:
We are still using Office 2007, so I installed only OneDrive for Business from the Office 2013 DVD and
deactivated all other components like Office 2013 by hand:
(so for example, the shared office feature or MS Info Path etc. were not installed)
Is there a crash log, where I can find more information about the crash?
Does OneDrive maybe need other components to be installed and can I install them without damaging my existing Office 2007 setup?

Did  you check your Event Viewer for any errors during the time when Windows Explorer crashed?
    Thanks for this hint!
The Log file says the following, so it seems to be WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software\btncopy.dll
to be responsible for the crashing Windows Explorer

  • Does on-premises OneDrive for Business ***REQUIRE*** an Organization ID for synchronization to local systems?

We have an on-premises SharePoint 2013 SP1 deployment in our lab.  We access the server through three methods: direct LAN access inside the firewall, over the Internet via Forefront TMG, and over the Internet via DirectAccess.  In all three access
cases, almost everything functions exactly as expected.
One exception is OneDrive for Business (the on-premises version).  After creating my MySite, I can browse my OneDrive for Business, upload/download files, preview documents, share with other SharePoint users, etc.  That stuff works properly.
But if I click the Sync link to establish a synchronization connection between my OneDrive for Business and my desktop system, the "We're getting things ready to sync..." dialog gets overridden by a OneDrive for Business error box - "We can't
connect to the specified SharePoint site...".
We see this behavior whether inside or outside the firewall.  I am logged into Windows, Office 2013 applications, and SharePoint using the same credentials: my Windows domain account.
Running Wireshark and Fiddler on my workstation, I see conversations being sent to live.microsoft.com when I click on the Sync link.  This leads me to believe that *ALL* such sync connections are established by looking up the user's account in the Microsoft
cloud (even if the credentials are for an on-premises domain) and, further, that because of this, businesses must create an official in-cloud Organization ID for their domain even if they are not actually using Office365 services (e.g. even if they are only
using on-premises SharePoint) if they want to sync with on-premises OneDrive for Business.
I have seen almost zero documentation about this, and certainly nothing that states that you MUST register for an Organization ID even if you are only using on-premises SharePoint and on-premises OneDrive for Business, yet this seems to be the behavior I
see and that theory seems to be supported by my network traces.
    So...
    1) Can anyone confirm or deny this theory, or at least give a lot more detail about how SharePoint attempts to "find" the service when you click on the Sync link?
    2) If you HAVE successfully set up on-premises OneDrive for Business and have NOT had to register an Organization ID, can you please share the details of how you configured things?
Many thanks for any help or pointers...

    I Just checked pre-requisites for Onedrive on-prem:
To support OneDrive for Business document libraries in SharePoint Server 2013, you must have:
A SharePoint Server 2013 My Site Host.
Configured the User Profile Service application.
The user must have an existing My Site with the personal site collection created.
To support synchronizing document libraries to a user's client workstation with the OneDrive for Business Windows Sync client, you must have:
    Either
Office 2013 Standard or Office 2013 Professional Plus, or the stand-alone OneDrive for Business Windows Sync client.
An Office 365 subscription that includes the Office 2013 applications.
Client workstations running Windows 7 or Windows 8.
If you have to purchase Office 365 then you will need Organization ID which will be required for Document SYNC, or yous should have Office 2013 installed on system.

  • Synchronization issues on OneDrive for Business

    Hi,
Our OneDrive for Business experience is very confusing here. We are in the middle of a few synchronization problems that our users don't understand.
Could not insert my screenshots, so please pardon me if the description is not clear. Full topic with screenshots can be found here: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/172/p/273549/836906.aspx
    Description of the problem
We have a lot of users using OneDrive for Business to synchronize three shared libraries stored on a on-premise installation of SharePoint 2013. The first setup has run (almost) smoothly, and all my users had a synchronized version of the files on the server
(around 2GB of data). We are in the beginning of our deployment, so the users have not used it very intensively yet, and probably this is why problems start appearing.
On computer 1, a file/folder reorganization has been realized within one folder (folder "TRAININGS") of one the libraries: creating new folders, moving files from one folder to another, renaming other folders and deleting old folders. Changes have
been processed, and Computer 1 is now in sync with server: they now share the same file/folder organization under the "TRAININGS" folder. Also, on Computer 1, all folders and files show the "green tick" on their icon, showing that sync
    is completed.
On computer 1, the OneDrive icon in the Windows task bar shows the synchronization is complete and does not show any sync issues.
On computer 2, the folder "TRAINING" is a mess. The folder "TRAINING"'s icon has been the "blue arrows" for a while. Inside, I have a mix of "green tick", "blue arrows" and no icon status.
Every now and then, the folder CATEGORIES turns to "green tick", then goes back to "blue arrows".
If we drill down inside the sub-folders, I have the same bahaviour, some folders have "green tick", some other "blue arrows" and some other no icon status. I do not understand the logic.
On Computer 2, no files or folders inside "TRAININGS" folder have never been opened by user "Fra".
However, on SharePoint, I see that some files in the tree of the "TRAININGS" folder that have "last modified by" with name of the user in Computer 2, even though this user "Fra" never modified that precise file. Only user "Cla"
did some modifications on the files and folders.
For example, we are missing folder "TRAININGS\CATEGORIES\CATALOG STRUCTURE" on Computer 2.
I do not understand what is going wrong there...
    Questions already answered:
    To save time for diagnosis:
    1. Does the issue only happen on the Computer 2? Please choose a PC and login with a problematic which have different issue to see what will happen.
No, it happens also on a different PC, but with different status for each file.
    2. Have the files they upload met the restrictions of syncing SharePoint libraries?
    No they have not:
No special character in File Name
524 files and 257 folders in the library
Max length of full folder and file name is 157 characters.
    No invalid file types
I have no idea if any file is open on any computer, and have no way of knowing it, with users all over the world.
    3. Have you tried to repair OneDrive for Business via right-clicking the OneDrive for Business icon then clicking repair? If not, please give it a shot and provide us with the result.
Repair has been tested and does not help.
    4. Could you please clean the cache of OneDrive for Business to see if the issue persists?
I have already tried deleting the Office Offline Cache on a similar problem one week ago. It is a pain in the neck since I have to do it on all my users who have problem (starts to be a lot), it involves re-downloading the whole contents of the libraries
(2GB) and it does NOT solve the problem since it reappears one week later on a different set of files.
Full delete of Office Offline Files temporarily solves the incident until the problem occurs again later. So doesn't help either.
Please keep in mind I have over 30 other computers that have these libraries synced in 4 different countries, and I do not know whether they are properly synced or not. Repairing or resetting on the client computers is not an option if I am not sure I have
completely solved the problem and I know for sure it will not happen again.
    5. How many files in these shared libraries? Generally, when suing OneDrive for Business, we don't recommend uploading/syncing a lot of files at a time.
The folder "TRAININGS" where all changes have been made contains only 64 files and 42 folders.
The library which contains the "TRAININGS" folder contains 524 files and 257 folders. But these files and folders have not been touched, except for the "TRAININGS" folder.
I believe I am way under the 100 files that have moved at the same time.
    6. How long has the problem been waiting for? Have you tried letting it solve by itself?.
Today, after 12 hours, Computer 2, 3 and 4 are still in the same state, synchronization is stuck.
Can you please help me diagnose the issue and make sure it does not happen again?
    Thanks a lot.

    New update that might help.
I have noticed on Computer 2 an anormal growth of the "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OfficeFileCache" folder.
The total synced libraries (both  with Office365 and with on-premise SharePoint) have a size of 5.5 GB.
The OfficeFileCache folder has a size of 21.6GB and is growing by the minute.
If I pause the sync, the folder stops growing. If I resume the sync, the folder grows.
    The changes are the following:
File CentralTable21873.accdb has different date modified, but size remains the same.
Files FSD-{id}.FSD (131,072 bytes) and  FSF-{id}.FSF  (114 bytes) are created. These files are created by pair, almost every second.
Please find below extract of the contents of the OfficeFileCache on Computer 2. I stopped the sync at 12:07.

  • Office OneNote 2013 working with OneDrive for Business

M$ is going to be the death of me.
So here's what I have Windows 8.1 Pro with Office 2013 Pro with OneDrive for Business with our own SharePoint 2013 environment running on a tablet.
I open this lovely OneNote Product and all it asks me is to sign into my M$ Account, I don't want to use my M$ account I want it to just open and allow me to create a new notebook...  It just asks me to sign into my M$ account.  I don't want to
    do that.
So I got into my SharePoint document library, click New document, create onenote document, open it and OneNote prompts me to log into my M$ account....
I don't want to use my M$ account, I want to use my OneDrive For Business and the SharePoint 2013 environment we've paid thousands of dollars for...
Another funny thing I found is, OneNote 2013 for Mac, works with OneDrive for Business?!?!  On Windows?  NOPE!
    Am I missing something simple?

  • Problems with Excel and Word 2013 saving to OneDrive for Business

I've had OneDrive for Business running for about a month without any problems. On Thursday I noticed I wasn't able to save an Excel 2013 spreadsheet to my OneDrive account. When I try to save it a box comes up that it's communicating with OneDrive then I
get an error that the file wasn't able to upload due to permissions. I've tried to resync and repair OneDrive, but that didn't help. I also repaired Office 2013.
If I create a txt file in Notepad I can save immediately to the same folder on OneDrive. If I create a new spreadsheet and hit the browse button to save it takes forever for OneDrive to access the folder then I get an upload error saying it cannot save and
    to make a copy.
    Should I re-install Office 2013?

    Hi,
Are you able to new a Word/Excel file directly in that OneDrive folder?
Please first try to remove and re-add the OneDrive service in Office and then verify result.
You might also want to install any available updates, make sure your system/Office is up to date and then try again.

  • Onedrive For business client problems

    Hello,
We run a Sharepoint 2013 on a windows server 2008 r2 and would like to start using OneDrive. Now all i can find on installing the Onedrive for business client on our client computers is just, select Onedrive menu and click the "Sync" button on
the top right corner. When i do that it starts installing Sharepoint WorkSpace on my computer and that's basically how far i've come.
Is it something that needs to be setup or what do i haft to do?

  • Onedrive for business this library is not supported because it requires checkout

So installed a fresh install of Office 2013 from click to run on O365 this morning. Windows 7 Machine.
Tried to sync a library from SharePoint online using Onedrive for Business and got this error.
"this library is not supported because it requires checkout"
A number of users are already syncing this library with Office 2013 Onedrive for Business with out issue.
    Any ideas anybody?

    Having the exact same issue.
All of my clients are using OneDrive for business (desktop App on Windows 8.1) to sync site document stores. This has been working fine for a month (new system) without issue, until...
Thanks to some licencing fun, I've ended up uninstalling a few of my clients Office products, and re-installing them with a different Office 2013 package. As part of this process I had to use the following guide to install OneDrive manually, as the
Office Pro 2013 installer included the older SkyDrive.
     https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2903984?wa=wsignin1.0
All of the users I have had to perform this "downgrade" on can no longer sync a document store with a check out requirement set. As soon as I disable the requirement on the site's document store, the user can sync the document store without
issue. I can straight away re-enable the check out requirement, and the user will continue to receive changes, and sync changes they make (going through the Office check out/check in process)
All of the users still on the original office package installation have no problems if the requirement is set or not.
I have noticed a versioning difference between the two installations...
One of my original installations with OneDrive working 100%, sits at version "17.0.4023.1211"
The new installations using the guide above, install OneDrive straight to version "17.3.1171.0714"
Is this a Microsoft "Feature upgrade" to wave off some sync issues (I never had any)???

I removed SkyDrive for Business and installed OneDrive for Business on my laptop. After that, I had problems opening a Word and Excel document in a SharePoint site (SP2013). After installing Service Pack2 from Office2010, this problem is solved.
But I still have the same problem with InfoPath. Whenever I click an InfoPath form (I have InfoPath 2010 on my laptop),...
... I get the error "cannot display web page".
    When I change the URL
    ms-infopath:ofe|u|http://intranet.water-link.be/samenwerken/awwit/Autorisaties/Gebruikersbeheer/2015-02-25%20Aanvraag%20gebruikersbeheer%20voor%20Stephanie%20Geeraerts.xml

I can open the InfoPath form and read it.
Any ideas about how to fix this ? I already tried to restore the Office 2010 via Control Panel - Install Programs but without any success...

    Hi Gert,
As I understand, you can’t open InfoPath form in SharePoint 2013 unless you change the URL without “ms-infopath:ofe|u|”.
There are some reasons which maybe cause this issue, and you can try to do things below:
Access CA -> General Application Settings -> Configure InfoPath Form Service -> Check the two options in User Browser-enabled Form Templates.
Go into the registry by typing regedit from the Run line and rename the SharePoint.OpenDocuments.5 key (ex. SharePoint.OpenDocuments.5.old) under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
In library settings, click "relink documents to this library".

  • SharePoint with OneDrive for Business

Hi, I'm looking for some clarification on how OneDrive works with SharePoint. The person who set up SharePoint is no longer with the company and we do not have expertise on this subject.
We have three SharePoint 2013 servers - a database server, a web server, and a Web Apps server.
OneDrive for Business integration works fine. However, I am now trying to upload some 20+ GB at a time but keep getting the error "there is not enough space on SharePoint. You need an additional x GB to copy these files".
I've checked all the servers and I have sufficient free space on them - storage is presented to vSphere from the SAN.
My question is: how exactly does the data get to its final destination on the database server? Does it go through a C: drive on one of those servers and that's why I'm getting the error message? Is there a specific service I can check to see if it's running
to pinpoint the location of the OneDrive integration?
    Thanks in advance.

Did you check for quotas on the MySite Site Collection? By default, I believe it is 100MB. Also, no one file can be greater than 2GB. This is a SharePoint limit.

  • Office 2013 applications crash when opening/saving files in OneDrive for Business folder

    My setup:
    Windows 7 64-bit
    Office 2013 Professional
OneDrive for Business (connected to Office 365)
    Issue Description:
    Example 1:
    1.  I create a file in OneDrive for Business using the appropriate web app (Excel web app, for example).
    2.  I edit the file in the web app, I save the file in my OneDrive for Business
    3.  I sync OneDrive for Business with it's local folder
    4.  Now I open the folder in Windows Explorer and double-click the Excel file
    5.  Excel splash screen shows up for a bit, and then Excel crashes
    Example 2:
    1.  I open Word on my Windows 7 laptop
    2.  I start from a blank document and create some content in the document
    3.  I use the Save As option under the File menu to save the file to my local OneDrive for Business folder
    4.  As soon as I click the Save button on the dialog, Word crashes
The same happens with all the Office applications.
    Important Note:
If I run the above examples with Excel/Word in SAFE mode, there is absolutely no issue.
What have I done so far?
    1.  I have made sure that the DisplayLink driver is the latest version from the manufacturer
    2.  There is no bluetooth send-to add-in in any of the Office applications
    3.  No add-ins are enabled in any of the Office applications (not sure if there are "stealth" ones that are not visible in the Options/Add-Ins dialog?)
Any assistance with this would be much appreciated.
    JeHarry

    Hi JeHarry,
Because I didn't have Windows 7, I did a test with Windows 8.1 based on your description. However, in my testing, everything worked well.
Please repair your Office under Control Panel, compare the result.
This forum is for SharePoint On-premise, as your issue is about Office 365, I suggest you create a new thread on Office 365 forum, more experts will assist you with Office 365.

  • OneDrive for Business not syncing, stuck at "We're getting things ready to sync..."

I had a Sharepoint library synced to my desktop for months and two days ago my computer had to suddenly reboot. When my comp restarted I had over 1,000 sync errors on files in my OneDrive for Business folder so instead of going through each individual sync
error I stopped syncing the folder, removed it from my local library list, and tried to resync the same Sharepoint library.
Now when I try to resync it gets stuck at "We're getting things ready to sync..."
    Any suggestions?

    Hi  ,
According to your description, you had encountered a sign in issue for OneDrive.
You can clear OneDrive cache by following the steps :
    1. Open the Task Manager and end every Office process (MSOSYNC.EXE, GROOVE.EXE and MSOUC.EXE).
    2. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the following locations and delete everything (files & folders):
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\Spw
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OfficeFileCache
After you deleted everything,  you should be able to start OneDrive  again.
