Running PowerShell Script to automate the installation of IIS feature - Add-WindowsFeature error, help please

I'm just learning PS scripting and Chef Programming, so I'm sure I'm missing something simple. I'm trying to run a recipe that is using PS as the interpreter. I've ensured I'm running PS in 64 bit with admin privileges, and have Imported the ServerManager
module. I even added a line to my script to have it run that first, but am still receiving an error in my script. I'm running this on a VM of Server 2008R2
Script:
powershell_script 'Install IIS' do
  code "Import-Module ServerManager -passthru"
  code "Add-WindowsFeature Web-Server"
  guard_interpreter :powershell_script
  not_if "(Get-WindowsFeature -Name Web-Server).Installed"
end

Hi There,
We have a application named Microsoft SCOM. That as well requires ISS to be installed. I tried this long back and it worked in powershell. Below is the powershell script i used to install IIS and some specific features from it. Hope it helps in altering
it and making one of your own script.
1.  Launch the PowerShell command
prompt
 Run this command
Import-Module ServerManager
3. Press Enter
4. Run this
command
Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework-Core,Web-Metabase,Web-WMI,Web-Static-Content,Web-Default-Doc,Web-Dir-Browsing,Web-Http-Errors,Web-Asp-Net,Web-Net-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Filter,Web-Filtering,Web-Windows-Auth,

  • Automaticly run Program\Script After and MSI Installation

    Hi All,
Today I started looking into the use of Application Model in SCCM 2012.
It was easy to create an application by using the import MSI function, which automatically created the application, deployment type and detection rule. But I'm struggling with how to run a script afterwards, when the MSI installation was successful.
I've looked into creating 2nd deployment type making the first deployment type as it's dependency, but it's mandatory that I also need to make an detection rule. And this is where I'm stuck ass the detection rule I want to have the same as
for the first deployment type which will make it impossible to run because the condition will be evaluated ass already installed.
Is there a way to avoid the detection rule? If not is if possible trigger something after the first deployment type based on the errorlevel after the MSI installation.
My goal is to write a regkey  somewhere in HKLM\Software\<company name> after an successful installation of an application. This location we've included in our hardware inventory for reporting purposes.
Any suggestions to achieve this goal are welcome .
    Regards,
    Daniel

I've resolved it with using the AddDploymentTypebyMISInstallerAuto function from the Add-CMDeployment command and provided an InstallationProgram parameter to override the default InstallationProgram.
    The comman-line looks like
    Add-CMDeploymentType
    -ApplicationName <Name>
    -AutoIdentifyFromInstallationFile
    -ForceForUnknownPublisher $True `
    -InstallationFileLocation
    <MSI
    File> -MsiInstaller
    -DeploymentTypeName
    Test1 –InstallationBehaviorType InstallForSystem
    -InstallationProgram
    < Custom
    Script>
In this way I have the detection based on the MSI GUID and the ability to use a wrapper script.

  • Powershell script to get the low disk space on the servers...

    Hi,
We have many SQL & Sharepoint servers running on windows server. I need some Powershell script to get the low disk space on those servers and it should send an mail alert saying "Disc d:\ have less than threshold 15% free space".
    Awaiting for response.
    Thanks

you should be able to use this powershell script which you can run as a scheduled task.
just change the details at the start of the script to point the script to the right location to create log files. you will need to have a plain text file containing a list of server names or ip addresses that you want to check drive space on.
    # Change the following variables based on your environment
#specify the path to the file you want to generate containing drive space information
    $html_file_dir = "\\server\share\DriveSpace"

  • Powershell script to change the a column value of all documents in a site.

    Hi,
I need a powershell script to change the value of a column (a site column which has been added to all document libraries) in all documents in a site,
    For example:
-column 1 is a site column added to all libraries
the value of column 1 of all documents under this site: http://intranet.doman/ex1 should be equal to V1
the value of column 1 of all documents under this site: http://intranet.doman/ex2 should be equal to V2
So, if I can write a powershell script to change the value of all documents in a site, I can modify it for different site that I have and run it for each of them individually,

  • I would like to automate the installation of FireFox to an alternate directory.

I am trying to automate the installation of FireFox to my servers drive "F:" but I have not found a way to script this option. Typical Windows installations would use the INSTALLDIR= option, but this does not work. I have seen several different spins on setting options (like the home page) but none of these scripts seem to address my issue.

When you download the installer, you can specify the install location. Once installed, any updates should also install in that location.

  • Passing parameters with spaces to SCCM Run PowerShell Script task

I am working on an OS deployment task sequence in SCCM 2012 R2 with several Run PowerShell Script tasks.  Most of them run fine, but I am having trouble with the one I need to pass parameters to.
The parameters I need to pass are:
    -ComputerOU "ou=All Workstations,dc=contoso,dc=com" -GroupDN "cn=Group1,ou=All Groups,dc=contoso,dc=com"
I have that line (with actual DNs) entered in Parameters of the task.
But when the script runs on the target machine, the values of the parameters in the script are truncated at the spaces.  $ComputerOU is set to "ou=All" and $GroupDN is set to "cn=Group1,ou=all"
What syntax should I be using the Parameters field of the Task in order to properly pass PowerShell parameter string values that include spaces?
    Tim Curwick
    MadWithPowerShell.com

Thank you, TC, but I am not calling the parameters from within PowerShell.
The parameters are in the settings of a task sequence task to be used by the task to launch a script.  The syntax I am using would be correct for use within PowerShell or from a command line or batch script, but SCCM appears to be doing some parsing
before or while it is passing them to the script, possibly dropping the quotes which causes mishandling of the spaces in the string values.
Historically, it is always challenging to give one application parameters to pass to another application, and the required syntax can get quite tricky when the two application handle quotes or spaces differently, or when the parent application wants to parse
something intended to be passed on as is to the child application.
I'm sure someone has already figured out what the syntax needs to be for doing this with an SCCM 'Run PowerShell Script" task, it's just one of those issues that is hard to Google effectively.
    Any other ideas?

  • Run Powershell Script task sequence

    Hi,
Anyone have good documentation on how to use the Run PowerShell Script task sequence ?
    Thanks

If you are just interested in running a powershell command without creating a package, you can do this with the the Command line step by using this format in the command line:
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy bypass -Command "& {your powershell commands}"
Here is an example of a multiline command to increase the agents cache size. Notice the ";"'s which are used to delineate a new line.
    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy bypass -Command "& {$UIResourceM gr = New-Object -ComObject UIResource.UIResourceMgr;$Cache = $UIResourceMgr.GetC acheInfo();$Cache.TotalSize = "20480"}"

  • OSD - Task Sequence to run powershell script

    Hello,
I'm building up an image with OSD and will be layering some components to meet our needs with some powershell scripts. At the moment we will not have this device add itself to the domain so it'll be in a workgroup. The scripts are on a share that everyone has
read access to. Should I add a task sequence that will map a drive letter with domain credentials and have the task sequence call the script from that drive letter?

That is possible to do, but why would you not create a package/application with the script and let it download and run locally?

  • Issue with running powershell script in pssessions

    Hi Everyone,
I am trying to run powershell script from remote machine using below commands
    C:\Users\user>"C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe"
    -command "$s= New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri

    and Below is the failback.ps1.

    ForEach($mbx in $mbxs)
    $MBdb=$mbx.Name $ServerHosting=$mbx.Server.Name
    if($mbx.activationPreference.value -eq 1)
    If ($ServerHosting -ne $ActivationPreference.Key.Name)
    Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase $MBdb -ActivateOnServer $ActivationPreference.Key.Name -confirm:$False
Below is what i am getting.

What is your question?  Are you pointing out the yellow text?  This is normal, and appears every time EMS is opened.
I should also point out that Microsoft provides a script to re-balance databases, if that's what you're trying to accomplish:
You can use the RedistributeActiveDatabases.ps1 script to balance the active mailbox databases copies across a DAG. This script moves databases between their copies in an attempt to have an equal number of mounted databases on each server in DAG. If required,
the script also attempts to balance active databases across sites.

I've had iTunes on my PC forever. Because recent updates have aborted with the message:"The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory... Log on as administrator," I am now attempting to download a fresh copy from the Apple website. Same message! I am logged on as administrator. I can download, then attempt to run by right-clicking on the installer and selecting, "Run as administrator" but that gets me only to the same point (and message) as attempting to install directly from the internet. I've never seen this message with any other download. What gives?

What's the precise name of the directory being mentioned? (Give the full file path, please.)

    That's perfect, thanks.
    error writing to file: C:\Program
    files\ i tunes\ i tunes.Resources\ja.lproj\AppleTVStream
itxib. Verify that you have access to that directory
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
