Running with iPhone 4

Hi, I love that Nike has the iPhone app that tracks your distance. But I'm constantly worried that I'm going to lose my iPhone out of my pocket. And I'm afraid that it is going to get wet. What have others done to take advantage of the iPhone functionality while running but protecting your iPhone? I used to have an old iPod and didn't mind just carrying it in my hand while jogging but because this is my phone I'm afraid that I'm going to drop it and will lose my phone. If I put in my pocket (as I'm doing now) I'm afraid that it will fly out of my pocket while jogging (or getting over obstacles, steps not boulders lol). I am looking at getting shorts where the pockets zip up or get the arm band for it. But too I'm concerned about moisture. One thing I'm thinking of doing is putting my iPhone in a sandwich bag to protect from moisture and then the arm band.
But mostly I'm looking for ideas others are doing when jogging with their iPhone.
Worst case, the iPhone falls out of my pocket while running. Falls into a puddle and the screen breaks.

My suggestions:

If you're looking for something cheaper, this one works fine with the iPhone 4:

  • Running with iphone and it randomly switches songs

When running, the ipod on my iphone makes a weird chimes and changes songs. It is not the same amount of time with each time it switches. Very random.
Any ideas on how to fix it?
I don't even know for sure if it is the 3.0 Not sure how to tell. I have had it for over a year though.

This is the 'shake to shuffle' feature introduced in the 3.0 software update - it's designed to let you shake your phone to shuffle songs.
Use Settings -> iPod -> Shake To Shuffle to turn it off.

  • Which is the best earphones for running with iphone?

i love the neckband design but haven't found any that work with the iphone that don't need an adapter...usually mini plugs that are straight work but not in all cases so does anyone know of a neckband set that has a straight mini plug? i dont want to mess with an adapter btw....i also do like the earphones with the over the ear clips, but the Nike vapors i have keep breaking...
btw they don't have to have a mic in the headset since i discovered that the mic on the iphone is very sensitive and most folks could hear me just fine with straight earphones for sound and the iphone mic for speaking into (even at a short distance!)

I think these will fit your needs and are perfect for your situation. They work just like the stock headphones but sound better and will not get in the way of your running if they fall out of your ears.

    Good Luck
PS...they fit in the iPhone without and adapter!!!

  • Running with iPhone

I am an endurance runner and have been trying to use the iPod function in the new iPhone on my long runs. For most of the run, it does fine...but as I get later into the run, the player stops playing. If I click the button on the headset it will start again, but stops over and over. Very frustrating on a long run. Could it be that sweat is somehow affecting it? Anyone else having this problem?

I have an iPod Nano but love using my iPhone better despite its greater size and weight. I like the effortless scrolling, the larger screen, the handiness of having a cell available just in case.
I got a Griffin Elan holster at the AT&T store and it holds my iPhone securely when placed facing outward, a little less snugly with the screen facing inward for protection. In either case, I wrap a fat rubberband around it lengthwise if I will be mountain biking just to be sure. I clip it to a Sony Walkman armband...works great!

  • How to get a N network running with iphones in the house??

    Hi there
    I have 3 x Airport express (N) stations, 1 x single port ethernet adsl2 modem.
    My problem is this,
I want to create a 5ghz N based 300mbps network for our 2 macbooks in the house. We also have 2 iphones in the house. When I create the 5ghz band, the iphones can't see the network. I am only using 2 of the stations, using the "extend my network wirelessly" mode. I have a spare airport that I can add to the mix if a solution can be sort.
At present, one airport plugs into the modem via ethernet, and wirelessly talks to the other in a couple of rooms away.
As I don't have the "dual band" version of the express station, is there anyway to maybe use the "3rd un-used" airport express to communicate with the others, but using a 2.4ghz signal so that the iphones can maybe jump onto that one?

macboi_NZ, Welcome to the discussion area!
You will either need to operate in the 2.4 GHz band OR get an inexpensive wired router to connect to the modem. Then connect 2 of the AirPort Express (AX) to Ethernet LAN ports on the router. Use one of the AXs to create a 2.4 GHz network and the other to create a 5 GHz network. Configure both the AXs to act as bridges (NOT sharing a single IP address).

  • Running with Iphone and Runkeeper

I'm using my iphone to run, using runkeeper app, but recently, my phone stopped behaving properly.  After some miles it jumps from a song to another (not shake to shuffle) and the Voice Control pops up. I tried to stop the music and/or to turn off the phone and it didn't work, I had to stop running and try again a few times to make it stop and turn it off.

There have been reports that some combination of sweat an the mic cause Voice Control to be activated and then doing odd things. I've never had a problem but I've heard of it. Some people have solved it by using headphones without a mic. I suppose BT stereo headsets might work but I've yet to find a pair that I find comfortable.

My iPhone is running with ios 4.2.1 & current version of ios is 6.0.1 in this case how can i update my iPhone to ios 4.3.5? itune will show only latest version of ios.

If you have iPhone 3G, the latest and greatest is IOS 4.2.1.
If you have iPhone 3GS or later, you can only update to IOS 6.0.1.
For iPhone 5 and iPad mini, you can update to IOS 6.0.2.

    To expand on Niels post...
First you need to check that your current Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...

If it does... then you need to Purchase and Install the Snow Leopard Disc,

I bought an iPhone 6 yesterday. I also bought a stereo dock that works with iPhone 5/5s. And a cord to connect iPhone 6 to USB port on my car stereo. No sound comes out of the stereo dock or car stereo. In Best Buy today, Sales Associate tried his iPhone 5 running iOS 8 on a stereo dock. It worked, but my iPhone 6 didn't. When will Apple fix this problem? Or is Apple pushing everyone to Bluetooth?

The iPod feature that plays through USB in my car does not work with my iPhone 6 either.  I called AppleCare and they said that the car audio system will need a firmware update.  Don't know if Apple is just passing the buck, but that is what I was told.  Thank you for posting.  I know now that I am not the only one.  Thanks also for posting about the iPhone 5 running iOS 8.  I gave away my iPhone 5 to a friend so I wasn't sure whether this is an iOS 8 issue or an iPhone 6 issue and your experience seems to confirm that it is a problem with iPhone 6.  I guess I will just be using Bluetooth in my car, at least for now.

  • Running with the iPhone

I have a 60 GB Photo iPod, and bought an armband to run with the iPod. After year or so, I started to have some problems with the iPod, including the wheel and the iPod freezing. I found out that because my iPod does not have "flash" memory, it is not good to have the iPod bouncing up and down (i.e. running)
Has anyone used an armband with the iPhone? Any problems with the phone/armband? Does the armband keep moisture out?
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi i received the nano 7th gen for Christmas and I only seem to get 5 hours of battery life. I use the Bluetooth and Nike app so I expect more drain on the battery.  But I got more time out of running with my iPhone. Does this sound normal? I thought I should get close to 30 hrs of just play time alone.
ALso, my wife got me the Belkin armband to run with the nano but I sweat through the band resulting in the back of the iPod to get wet. Surely this is not good. Anyone have a recommendation for an armband that keeps moisture away from the pod?

iPod Nano are small and they don't use Wi-Fi access so you get less power time on a Nano. As for iPhone, since you got apps, Wi-Fi + 3G access, and everything else, they give you more time so you can keep using. Nanos are ment to listen to music, listen to radio, view your photos, watch videos (without Wi-Fi) and since you got BlueTooth on the nano, it counts as wireless access so it drains your battery faster.
