RV215W - Problem setting up site-to-site VPN
Hello,
I've taken a plane to newbie-land and need help in setting up a site-to-site VPN. I know this is very basic stuff so I apologize for asking something that's been answered a million times before. I just can't find an answer I can translate directly to my situation.
I have two RV215W routers, and although I've found a considerable amount of information on setting up the VPN on this model, I can't find anything on setting up two of them to create a functional VPN. I think I'm probably making an error in my IP addressing.
It appears that somehow I'm creating an endless loop on at least one end. I can't ping specific devices on the other network, and when I type the LAN IP address of the remote router into a browser it actually goes to the local router's setup page. After running awhile the network gets so bogged down with its own traffic (I'm assuming) that it grinds nearly to a halt. I can see in the IPSec connection status that both sides are connected, but I'm not sure exactly what they think they are connected to. Tons of VPN traffic on both ends, though.
I have been using the Basic VPN Setup page following instructions in the RV215W Administration guide's "Configuring Basic Site-to-site IPsec VPN Settings", page 104. Basically, I'm configuring the routers as mirror images with regard to local and remote LAN and WAN settings, although I have to admit I don't know if that's how you're supposed to configure them to work together.

When I look at the advanced settings I don't see any items that need to be changed, at least according to what I've gathered in my searches for information on my problem. The IKE and VPN policy tables are enabled, and for kicks I've toggled NAT traversal and NETBIOS different ways.

We are a relatively small not-for-profit so I've never had to do much in the way of anything beyond setting up stand-alone networks and no-brainer stuff like port-forwards, troubleshooting devices that don't like this or that feature in a router, etc. We are growing quickly though.
The reason I need to do this one on-site is because there are several devices I can't reach remotely. They have specific IP addresses and you can only configure them from the front panel. Nearly everything else would work perfectly, but those devices would not be happy. :-) I'll be able to remote from there though to a computer at this location.

Internet connexion problem for remote site in Site to site VPN asa 5505
Hi all
I'm configuring a site to site Ipsec VPN in 2 sites using ASA 5505 V 8.2, The VPN is working fine i can ping machine in the 2 sides but the problem is the remote site dont' have internet.
The architecture is, we 2 site Site1 is the main site and Site2 is secondary site there will be Site3, ...
The internet connection is based in Site1 and site2 and site 3 will have internet connection through Site1. Site1, Site2 and Site 3 is interconnected by Ipsec VPN.

Need help determining why my nothing is showing up after setting up site to site vpn
Ok, so I'm am trying to figure out why I can't get nothing to show up when I do sh crypto isakmp sa or sh crypto ipsec sa. I did the basic setup for a site to site vpn and I can ping across both networks just fine no problem. So when I ping from a pc in the 172.16.0.0 network to 192.168.0.0 network there is no problem at all because the pings are recieved just fine. But when I go to sh crypto isakmp sa, there is just nothing there and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I looked at my sh run for both routers and everything looks fine, but I guess I may be overlooking something. If someone could help me diagnose this problem I would truely appreciate. I have attached my packet tracer file and both routers are using the password binary. I put the password on there for the sake of it and to have a more real feel.

SA520: problem when trying to access HTTPS over custom port in a site-to-site vpn
We've set up a site-to-site VPN between our SA520 and our SmoothWall running at our data center. The tunnel is always connected, so that part runs fine
What works fine:
- Client 192.168.11.1 is able to start an RDP session (on it's default port 3389) to server 192.168.3.5
- Client 192.168.11.1 can open a webpage which is hosted on server 192.168.3.5 (hosted on the default HTTP port 80)
What doesn't work:
- Client cannot open web page which is hosted on server 192.168.3.1 at the following url: https://192.168.3.1:441
- or, for that matter, any https service in the 192.168.3.x LAN which runs on a different port
To summarize:
from the 192.168.11.x subnet, accessing services running on default ports (i.e. 80, 3389, 21) in the 192.168.3.x subnet works fine. doing the same for services running on custom ports (i.e. https over port 441) the connection to the webserver times out.

thank you for your reply. we've checked the smoothwall configuration, but couldn't discover anything which could cause this problem. we even tried replacing the sa520 with a draytek vigor router to set up an lan-to-lan vpn with the smoothwall. with the draytek in place we have no problems accessing the aforementioned servers, so it seems the issue is with the SA520.
what exactly do you mean by creating an ACL from the remote WAN to our LAN? i assumed you meant creating a firewall rule, allowing traffic from the remote device's public ip to our LAN. however, in that case i need to enter an ip address of a device in our LAN, or else i cannot save this rule. as a test i entered the ip address of my machine as the destination address, but am still unable to access the aforementioned servers.
here's how i set up the rule:

How to configure routing on site to site VPN(RV215W)

I have set up a VPN between a RV215W and SRP521 (site to site)
The VPN is up and connection is established on both side.
However I cannot connect from one network to another (No ping, no connection)
When I checked teh configuration, I noticed that route table on RV215W does not show any ipsec interface nor the route to the remote network
Any hint how to configure this route over the VPN? Should I do it manually or is it a paramater to be made automaticaly?

You are correct - Cisco's IS-IS has no internal support for optional metrics. The only metric value that is going to be used in best path selection is the default metric. Regarding considerations about metrics in IS-IS, the only consideration I find important is that all new IS-IS deployments should use wide metrics. These can be activated using the metric-style wide in the router isis configuration. Wide metrics allow you to use a significantly wider metric range than the original IS-IS standard: 24 bits for interface metric, and 32 bits for total path metric. It is important to say that all L1 routers within an area, or all L2 routers in the domain must use the same metric type, either the classic (also called narrow) or the new wide metrics.
Apart from that, there are no special considerations I am aware of. The choice of metric values for a particular interface is completely up to you. Of course you might want to configure lower metrics for faster interfaces (and vice versa), but what values you choose is up to you.

Site to site vpn between RV215W and ASA5510
Hello,
We're trying to establish a site to site vpn between a RV215W (firmware version 1.0.0.16) and an ASA5510 (ASA 8.2(3)). The ASA currently has 5 other IPSec VPN tunnels running. It sure does look like I've dotted all my "i's" and crossed all my "t's" with respect to both sides of the tunnel. What I'm seeing from the 5510 is that there is some sort of communication between the two devices but there is no IPSec tunnel established and no traffic is getting beyond either device. It shows the RV215W connected but 0 bytes Tx and 0 bytes Rx.
From the RV215W side of things it shows an IPSec SA not established. The protocol is IKE and the encryption used is 3des. Both sides have the same preshare key and are using the same settings. From each device I can ping the public IP address of the other, but I get no further. I believe I have ACL's set up to allow traffic from both internal networks. (although I may not - I'm hardly a Cisco guru, just fumbling my way through this...)
Any guidance/direction would be greatly appreciated.

I have a cisco asa 5505 that needs to be set up for site to site vpn to a cisco asa 5500. The 5505 is the remote office and the 5500 is the main office.

ah-sha-hmac or ah-md5-hmac

Site to Site VPN Problems With 2801 Router and ASA 5505
Hello,
I am having some issue setting up a site to site ipsec VPN between a Cisco 2801 router and a Cisco ASA 5505. I was told there was a vpn previously setup with an old hosting provider, but those connections have been servered. Right now I am trying to get the sites to talk to the 2801. Cisco ASA 5505 Site to Site VPN Problem
Hi All,
We have a site to site VPN with a cisco asa 5505 on one end and a Checkpoint firewall on the other end.
We can establish the vpn tunnel and all users in the remote office are working great. However at a random point during the day or it may even be after 2 weeks of working, the tunnel between the sites automatically fails.
When I dial into the modem which is connected to the firewall I see the following messages in the logs:

There is nothing in the Checkpoint logs. To solve the issue I have to reload the firewall.
I have checked both firewalls for any mis-matched parameters and do not see any.
Any help is very much appreciated as it is very frustrating for myself and the users in the remote office.

Setting up site-to-site and remote vpn on isa570w
Hi folks...
I have 2 new isa570w's....
I'm setting up two offices with dedicated site-to-site VPN. Have that working great, but the office needs remote access as well to either of the offices. I have been unsuccessful so far in getting this to work. The remote access needs to include iPad access as well.
Any pointers would be most appreciated! Thanks!

Setting up site to site IPSec VPN with RV 120W
Hi All,
I am looking to set up a site to site VPN between a local and remote office, with a RV 120w as the gateway at either side. Aside from changing the remote site's IP and Subnet, what do I need to do to get this functional? to call myself a well tooled novice would be appropriate. Any help is appreciated.

Configuring Cisco ASA for site to site VPN ( Issue with setting up local network)
OK, so our primary firewall is a checkpoint gateway. Behind that we have a cisco ASA for vpn users. I have a project at the moment where we need to connect to another company using site to site VPN through the cisco ASA, as the checkpoint gateway is unable to establish a permanent tunnel with the other companies Cisco ASA.
What would be the best practise for setting up the local network on my side? Create the network on the ASA and then use a L2 vlan to connect to the Core switch?
Setup a L3 interface on the core switch and point it towards the checkpoint gateway which would then point to the ASA?
When you have to select your local network through the site to site wizard do you have to put the inside network address of the ASA?
Our network is setup like this: Access layer switch > Core 6500 Switch > Checkpoint-Firewall > Internet
The ASA is connected to a checkpoint sub interface
Any help would be beneficial as im new to cisco ASAs

If we understood more about your environment we might be able to give you better answers. My initial reaction was similar to the suggestion from Michael to use a L2 vlan. But as I think a bit more my attention is drawn to something that you mention in the original post. The ASA is there for VPN users. If the VPN users need to access your internal network then you probably already have something configured on the ASA that allows access to the internal network. Perhaps that same thing might provide access for your site to site VPN?

ASA 5520 v7.2 - VPN site to site problem and clear command

I am getting some problems with a Site to Site VPN from the last two weeks. In some occasions it stops to send traffic through the VPN without any apparent reason. I have other VPNs that continue working fine. While it is failing I have run the command "show crypto isakmp sa" and I have found that I have two entries for the peer that is failing:
9 IKE Peer: x.x.x.x
Type: L2L Role: responder
Rekey: no State: AM_REKEY_DONE_H2
10 IKE Peer: x.x.x.x
Type: L2L Role: initiator
Rekey: yes State: MM_ACTIVE_REKEY
Any idea about what is happening?
On the other hand at the moment the only way to solve this has been using the command "clear crypto isakmp sa" but the problem is that this command clear all the entries and I lose the connectivity in all the other tunnels until the are established again. Is there any way to clear only the tunnel that has problems?

Setting up Site-to-Site VPN and nat on IOS
I have a senario I am looking to setup. I have a Cisco 3825 router that handles roughly 50 site-to-site VPN's. I have a particular VPN where I would like to nat (actually overload) off an interface for a specific VPN site-to-site tunnel. I know when you are doing nat you of course have an inside and an outside interface which I do on the router but how would you overload (pat) on an interface for just a specific VPN tunnel? Say you wanted to overload your entire internal supernet to a single private (RFC 1918) interface addess? Typically the outside interface (nat outside) what you would overload off of has a public ip address, but in this case you want to use a private RFC 1918 address as the source of the overload interface?

did you think of using a normal statment and use a route map with that statment that only permit the VPN traffic to be natted using that statment and deny any other translation , and for the crypto access-list you should use the source as the pattted ip address and the destination as the the remote proxies .
