Ever since Lion, Safari opens up with your last-visited website. Personally I think this is really annoying, and what is even mor annoying is that everytime I want to open Safari, I would have to hold down the shift key to bypass this. In addition, they also have the option in general prefs to chose how you want to open your new windows; this compeletly undermines the whole thing becuase no matter what option you chose, it still comes up with your last-visited website. The whole thing is really stupid and annoying.

I use 10.3.9 and I have no idea why yahoo mail stopped working today. I have firefox installed on my machine. BTW - firefox is able to serf the web without issues on all of my sites. I often wonder why apple wanted to build a browser, why not just use firefox and contribute to it's development for the mac environment?

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues.

Safari on my iPad will not open, it will come up but will not let me type or display other than blank page.

Also close all apps in the multi-task window
1.Double-click the Home button.
2. Swipe the app's preview up to close it.

Safari Update 7.1 will not open

My wife is running Mavericks OS 10.9.5 on an older iMac. She was using Safari 7.0.6 and all was working fine. When she updated to 7.1 today the application will not open at all. We zapped her PRAM with no luck. "Getting Info" on the Safari App shows that the version is still listed at 7.0.6. The OS is up to date and the App store says there are no other updates available. Tried putting Safari in the trash to see if I could reinstall it, but was not allowed to modify the system. How do you get a working version installed. Thanks

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you tried to install an update to Safri but now it will not launch. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

Safari 6.0.4 will not open

I have safari 6.0.4 installed on my imac running 10.7.5.
but for some reason it will not open and keeps sending me a page to send back to Apple.
All very well but no Safari.

Imac G5 OS 10.4.11 Itunes not connect, Safari fine, new downloads will not open, new install of 10.4.11.4

Imac G5 OS 10.4.11 Itunes will not connect to radio or store. Errors out check internet connection. Safari connects fine.
New downloads will not open i.e. ms office critical update, nor Filemaker re-validate registration, also new intaller of itunes 9.2.1 etc.
After clean install of 10.4 and all updates same problem.
Other 10.4.11 systems I have work fine on ibook etc.
Can I move the system app that opens .dmg files from OK system to imac? Would that even solve the problem?

Safari 4.1.1 Will Not Open a Browser Window

When I open Safari it loads but no window appears. I've done all the things that this forum has told me to do including clearing the cache, resetting safari, and deleting the Webpageicons.db file. Still it will not open a window. If I try to open a bookmark it crashes.

Did you ever install a customized toolbar? Like a Facebook one? Or for watching sports?

Safari 3.1.1 will not open on OS X 10.3.9

I downloaded the new version, and it will not open at all. Do I have to throw it away and root around for an old version on the 'net?
This is only happening on the Mac Mini; the laptops are fine (but then they are newer).

I'm not sure if your problem is solved yet. We had the same trouble - after spending hours trying to find some fix, I stumbled upon the following website: http://michelf.com/projects/multi-safari
Type all of that info into your browser. Scroll down until you get to 'safari for panther'. I downloaded all of the versions, in order, because I was not sure if each one needed the previous version, in order to work. I then just dragged the oldest version onto the hard drive, so they wouldn't clutter my desktop & put the newest one in the dock.
Maybe not the best way to solve the problem - I don't know, but now my daughter has safari again.

Safari 4.0.3 will not open Wells Fargo Secure Site.

Safari 4.0.3 will open the main Wells Fargo Bank website just fine, but if I try to log in to get to the secure page with my account information, Safari gives me a "cannot find" error message. I telephoned Wells Fargo Online, and they said that sometimes Apple introduces a new OS or Safari which is incompatible with them. They suggested downloading FireFox, which I did, and it worked perfectly. So until Apple and/or Wells Fargo fixes this bug, Wells Fargo clients do have this FireFox workaround available.

At one particular web site ( a log on site for a library) Safari 4.0.3 the browser downloads the web page to download folder as "webquery-38.dll.html" When I click on it it either opens at another page of the library or as a text file. I have tried all the things mentioned with cache, resetting safari, and the security. This s the only site it comes from and the administrators of the site say it works with their Safari. They suggest using another browser. Any suggestions as it must be something with my computer/safari

Safari 4 and even Safari 3.2.1 will not open at all

Before updating, I had been using Safari 3.1.2.
I updated my safari through the software update and after restarting
like I was told to do to complete the update,
my Safari would not open. I could click it, the icon would do the bouncing thing like once and then just close.
The window doesn't even open.
I backtracked to Safari 3.2.1, but that didn't work either.
Please help me. I'm using FireFox at the moment, and
I'm just more comfortable with Safari.

It's possible you have a 3rd party add-on that's not compatible with either Safari 3.2.1 or Safari 4.0.
Go to the Finder. Let me know if anything is installed in these folders:
HD>Library>InputManagers
HD>Library>Applications Support>SIMBL>Plug-ins (note, if you do not see a SIMBL folder, do not be alarmed. You would need a certain plug-in for it to exist).
Same folders as above, except HD>Users>Your User Account>Library....

HT201210 safari and mail apps will not open

Hello, after I updated to 6.1.3 on my iphone 4 everything worked fine, till I rebooted my phone, now all of a sudden my safari and mail apps do not work. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Everytime I try and restore my iphone i get: The phone "Justin's Phone" could not be restored. This device isnt eligilbe for the requested build. I even reverted to my last saved back up (this back up was on June 13) and a back up from december 2012 and the safari and mail app still do not work. Anyone have any suggestions?

After installing Safari andAdobe fireworks CS4 will not open

I recently purchased the new Mac OS X Snow Leopard and I cant get my Adobe Fireworks CS4 and Safari browser to open. I downloaded safari 5 today thinking that might help my browser but nothing. When I click the Safari icon, it shows it is running and then there but no actually page pulls up. Any ideas what is going on?

I have been working on this since I posted. The error messaged popped up several times during automatic updates the past couple of days. When I first had the opportunity to update, I selected both iTunes and Quicktime. I received a message iTunes was updated, but there was an error updating Quicktime. I cannot remember the exact message, but it basically said to install the update manually from within Quicktime. I did not do that until I figured out what was going on with iTunes. Anyway, I finally updated Quicktime manually, and after rebooting, I was able to open both Quicktime and iTunes. When I finish working tonight, I will reboot and hopefully, be able to open both again. As of now, iTunes is working. Thanks.

Safari 4.0.3 Will not open a window...

I just upgraded to 4.0.3 and when I open Safari the software is open but no window appears. I click on file-new window and no window appears. I then file-Quit Safari and it says there is a window open but it isn't. I then click to close the app and it says it quit unexpectly. Anyone else have this problem and get it resolved?

First, try restarting your Mac. If that doesn't help...
Go to: /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag this file to the Desktop.
com.apple.safari.plist
Launch Safari. If you can launch Safari successfully, drag that .plist file to the Trash and empty the Trash.
If you still can't launch Safari, go to ~Library/Input Managers and ~Library/Internet Plugins. If there are any files in the Input Managers folder or the Internet Plugins folder, drag them to the Trash and try to launch Safari.
Next, check and make sure you have sufficient disk space.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times. Insufficient disk space can keep applications from functioning as they should.
