Safari 7.0.6 Won't Load on Mavericks 10.9.4

I just updated to Mavericks 10.9.4 which leads me to believe this is an issue with the newest version. Some websites won't load, some won't properly load, and some load just fine. The crazy thing is that the ones that do and don't load switch. For example Hulu wasn't loading, then just partially (words and boxes show up but not the picture links to the videos) and Target will only load the home page. And, the pages that are loading seem to be taking forever to load anyway. I reinstalled Java after the update and enabled it. I checked for FlashPlayer updates, I'm up to date, I deleted the cache, I exited out of Safari (and Chrome as well, I'm having this same problem with it), and I've turned my computer off. I have no idea what's going on and I need to get this fixed.

Hi ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

• Safari pages won't load since Mavericks upgrade

Installed Mavericks a few days ago on my iMac and some really annoying bugs have been introduced to Mail (7.3) and Safari (7.0.6). I can't automatically add multiple addresses to emails anymore using the space bar; I have to manually type out certain addresses, add commas, etc. Certain webpages, including youtube and google, won't load on Safari. Chat support had me repair permissions with disk utility, clear cookies and reset safari, but none worked. It was also suggested that I do an SMC reset, a PRAM reset, and a safe reboot. I haven't done any of these, basically because I'm nervous about introducing any more wonkiness that I can't undo. I've been reading about similar problems with Mavericks for months now (I only upgraded because I needed it for Final Cut) , but I never see any solutions. Can anyone help me??? Thanks.

Go step by step and test.
1. Power cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
It will take a while.

To further explain:
I didn't need to locate any invisible files in my case. I discovered that I had 4 versions of the System Preferences application on my computer. (The System Preference applicatioin is what loads the preference pains when you seledt System Preferences.) I merely searched for "System Preferences" in spotlight. Spotlight located 4 different versions of the System Preferences application. Some of those versions apparently tied to preference panes that used the old 32 bit encoding from the non Intel processor days. When I clicked on the System Preferences under the Apple menue it was apparently pulling up an old version of the System Preferences applicatioin instead of the correct one in the main Applications folder. I also noted that if I clicked on System Preferernces in the dock or directly in the the Applications folder, I would not have the problem of some of the preference panes not able to be viewed because of the " "it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac" message. So I surmised that the correct System Preferences application was in the Applications Folder on the top level of the drive directory like it was supposed to be but that when I clicked on System Preferences from the Apple menue it was loading one of the 3 old System Preferences applications that were buried elsewhere on my hard drive. If you find you have more than one System Preferences application on your hard drive you need to trash the other System Preferences Applications. Before trashing the duplicates, you should test the one in the main Applications folder by directly double clicking it and make sure all the preference panes in it work properly then trash the duplicate System Preferences applications you found in spotlight.
You may also find like I did, that you not only have duplicates of the System Preferences on your hard drive but also several old duplicates of the entire Applications folder buried on your hard drive. if that is the case you should compare each folder and make sure there is nothing in the old duplicate Applications folders you still need. You will probably find that all of the latest versions of your applications are in the main Applications folder where they should be. If so then trash all the old duplicate Applications folders as well. Keep only the main Applications folder on the top level of the hard drive.
Trashing all these extra old Applications folders that held old duplicates of all my applications in them on my hard drive solved a bunch of other problems I was having with some of the applications as well.
For the technically minded: Why does this happen with Mavericks and not with Mountain Lion? I suspect that the old Applications folders and old duplicate System Sreferences applications didn't matter to Mountain Lion because it searched for the System Preference application under the Apple menu differently than Mavericks does. I believe Mountain Lion seached all the top levels of the Application folder before drilling down into any subfolders to find the System Preferences application. Mavericks apparently does it the opposite way. It searches the first subfolder in you Applications folder and drills all the way down in that subfolder first before going to the next subfolder and drilling down in that subfolder all the way to the bottom. So it searches all the subfolders before searching the main level of the Applications folder for System Preferences. Since my old duplicate System Preferences applications where in subfolders with titles that were earlier in the alphabet than the main System Preferences application it searched those subfolders first, found the old System Preferences application in the those earlier folders and loaded the old System Preferences first in the subfolders instead of the correct one further on in the main Applications folder. If any one else has a better idea let me know.

• Safari and other browsers won't load?

Heads up: I'm not very computer savvy but, I have a 15" MacBook Pro. Late 2011/Early 2012 I think. Version 10.7.5.
So over the past few weeks ( through Google Chrome), videos online. They load fast, I can click play on a 40 minute video and I don't need to pause for buffereing and loading.
In the middle of one of the videos though, it stops loading and I thought it was just a blip in the internet connection. So I reloaded the page, this time it tages about twice as long to load the video and then stops again. Each time I re-loaded the page the amount that it would download became shorter until it wouldn't play anything at all. I tried in Safari as well, with no luck. I thought it might have been the website, but then I tried youtube, network websites, videos on tumblr, anything I could think of and nothing would load.
The internet connection is fine, because another MacBook pro can connect wirelessly without problems. I've just updated my software, cleared a lot of my memory space on the hardrive, updated flash-player and nothing seems to be working. I follwed a few other answered questions on here such as turning off IPv6 or something along those lines and turning off various things and reconfiguring. It was all confusing to me and they didn't work either...
Now it's gotten to the stage where Safari (as I uninstalled Gogle Chrome to reinstall it) will not let me load random pages, such as the download pages for Google Chrome and Firefox. 4/5 times images won't show on pages that do seem to be working.
When I'm tryign to load a page in Safari, the little blue bar travels across it ust fine and then all of a sudden disappears, but there is stil an x in the navigation bar (as if it's loading) rather then a refresh button.
I'm hoping someone out there could help! If you need any more info on my computer I will dish it up as long as you let me know where to find it.

What you're describing sounds like it could be one of a few things:
1) It's possible that the wireless card in your computer has something wrong with it.
2) You've may have some sort of obscure problem with your computer's firmware, and you should resinstall the operating system.
3) There actually is something wrong with your internet connection.
I know that the 3rd one sounds unlikely, given that your other computer works fine on your internet connection. However, for whatever reason, your internet modem could just be spitting out bandwidth in unequal quantities to each computer. This could also be caused by an inconsistency in your router's QoS settings.
Either way, I would advise that you make an appointment at the Apple store, or some reputable computer repair shop. I think that the most likely of these three problems would be that something is wrong with your wireless card.
I hope this helps!

• Safari hangs up and won't load

Hi,
I'm running 10.7.5 under Parallels (can't upgrade OS with this version of Parallels) and recently Safari stopped loading.
All I get is the spinning circle and have to force quit to get out.
Hoping someone here can help.
Here is a link to the error message
http://LilDonkeys.com/date.pdf
Thanks in advance.

No need to repair permissions, and they won't go away as they are not a problem that needs to be fixed.
Restart holding down the shift key. It will clear some caches, then check the disk as it boots. It will boot to the login screen, so make sure you know your password.
If it boots ok into safe mode, then you may have a third-party piece of software that is causing problems.

• When I first start my Safari and other browsers won't load

I recently upgraded to a MacBook Air from my 6 year old MacBook pro. I moved everything using a TimeMachine backup. I have been having a problem that when I start the day or return to the computer after having been off it a while, my airport will connect but my Safari will not go to the webpages, it just hangs. Sometimes this will last until all my mail downloads and then it will work, but this morning and a few other times I could not get Safari or Firefox to download from the web, even after my mail downloaded, until I restarted the computer, then it they worked fine. It is like something is hanging up my ability to get pages to download from the web when I first start trying to connect.
Thanks for any help with this,

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

• Safari (- or other browsers) won't load specific websites

Hello folks,
So here’s the deal: I can’t seem to load several specific websites. Some pages point-blank refuse to load, while others (like Facebook, Instagram, Google) work just fine or take a very long time to load (youtube vids buffer a lot). I’ve already tried several things, like flushing my DNS cache, adding google public DNS-servers (used: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), using different browsers (firefox nor safari works), making sure parental control is off and firewall is disabled, removing all my website data in Safari’s preferences, rebooting my router, resetting the wifi routers' time zone (someone else recommended this), restarting my wifi connection (which seems to have effect for like a second- though it’s loading very slowly- and then it goes back to refusing loading the page.) When using a proxy all pages load just fine.
I also did run a ping-test for one of them:
PING archiveofourown.org (208.85.241.152): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1

Entering 208.85.241.152 in my browser didn’t do the trick either..
Printscreen (just a blank page):
I’m really lost and hope someone might help me. Thank you in advance!

• Safari 5.1.1 won't load a page

I have a website that works fine when using a PC, however, when i try to access the site on my Mac the pages only partially load. The page address shows up in the address bar but the page itself does not until the refresh button is pushed. The site was created using frontpage and worked fine until recently. I would appreciate any help I can get. I am not a technical person and could use a shove in the right direction.
The address of the site is www.blueshighway.ca.
Also, I tried installing Firefox on my mac and each time I try to access one of the web pages on the site, it crashes. Again, it works fine using Firefox on my PC.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
Boot in safe mode and log in as yourself. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, possibly including wireless networking. If possible, connect to the Internet using an Ethernet cable. If you can’t test in safe mode, then perform a safe login: log out of your account without rebooting, enter your credentials at the login screen, then hold down the shift key and click the “Log in” button. Keep holding the key until the menu bar appears.
Launch Safari and test again. Same problem now?
After testing, reboot or log out/log in as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

This is issue started yesterday after a reboot. For a couple of weeks I have tried to install the latest version of Safari without luck, as the installer crashes and "quits unexpectedly". I just ignored it, but now none of the above programs will launch. Then it is an issue!

Through Firefox (which works fine) i downloaded a fresh copy if the latest Combo update. Can't install that either, as it crashes, just as with Safari updates.

Sounds like the Hard Drive might be gong out.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

• Safari 6.0.1 won't load web pages randomly, and says website unavailable/no connection. But, all my other devices do have a great connection. Is there a fix for this problem?

I recently bought OS X mountain Lion, and safari 6.0.1 was running great for a short period of time when it stopped loading the web pages. It will randomly do this now and then. I try resetting safari to no avial, and when I do a system reset it provides a temporary fix. It's very annoying problem. I know it is not a connection problem because all my other devices get internet connection. Safari will say no connection/web site is unavailable. The OS I have is OS X ML 10.8.2. Any suggestions?

• Safari 3.1.2 won't load certain pages all the way with JavaScript enabled

I have trouble even loading pages on Apple's site when I have JavaScript enabled. Pages get partly or nearly loaded and then hang and eventually time out with "server stopped responding" issues. Turn it off then pages load fine, but of course I can't access any functions that require JavaScript such as the Discussions login link. Firefox works fine. Many other sites using JavaScript have similar problems. I've tried all the usual stuff like resetting Safari, trashing preferences, repairing disk permissions, etc. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.

I'm having the same problems as described above (Intel iMac 2.4 GHz, Safari 3.1.2).
I can see the pages linked above, but I'm having trouble seeing the following New Zealand quiz:
http://drakevanhellsing.angelfire.com/NewZealandtest.html
It's not the "noscript" tags that stop it. It's something in the following section of header code (stars are mine, replacing information you don't need to know for this):

I've tried executing Angelfire pages without this code, and they load up as you would expect them to in Safari, but without the Angelfire inserts (required to use their free service).
The testing I've done suggests that it is something to do with this particular line:

• Safari 5.1.10 won't load

I installed Safari 5.1.10 and cannot open any webpages, I tried to re-install v 5.1.9 but the download is no longer available. Any suggestions for fixing this issue?

Might be a proxy issue.
You do not need to load a webpage to do this.
With Safari open, press Command , (comma) to open the Preferrences window then select the Advanced tab.
Click Change Settings to the right of Proxies.
That will open System Preferences > Network > Proxies for you.
Deselect any selected boxes on the left then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, go to System Preferences > Sharing then select the Firewall tab.
Turn off the Firewall if it's turned on, then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
